It is extremely difficult to bring an American car to Europe and sell it. There are differences in legal requirements on the car (lighting, for example) that need to be adjusted first, before it can be EU type approved. Working on your own car is allowed in the Netherlands. But, cars get more complicated because of efficiency and environmental standards every year. So, yeah.... However, in most municipalities you are not allowed to work on your car in public spaces. So you need to do it on your private land. Small repairs, well, I don't think anybody will bother about that. Do not underestimate what the guy said in the video. The housing situation is insanely bad. The market is insanely expensive, both for renting and for buying (buying appartments is quite common). This housing shortage is even worse than in most other western societies. The weather is not what the video said, we have generally no severe winters and pleasant summers. It is wet and windy on more days than you would like and we live at a northern latitude, so seasonal daylight conditions are quite extreme, not as bad as in Scandinavia, but almost. On the flip side, there is barely any unemployment, wages are okay, and for immigrants coming under the DAFT treaty there is (I think) a lower tax regime, if it still exists. Under the DAFT treaty, if you have a livable income and some saved money from you UA-cam channel, you could relocate to the Netherlands and obtain a residency permit (not a citizenship!) very easily. First time is one or two years, next time is five years. You are OK as long as you earn your own income. You could use that time to learn the language and learn for the "inburgeringsexamen" (citizenship exams) and become a citizen with all the rights involve on social security etc. You don't need to give up US citizenship. Generally the Netherlands demands that you give up your old nationality, but the US is exempt from that rule because it costs a lot of money to do that. Well, it still is a hell of a bureaucracy, but there are Americans who did it and made youtube videos about that process. It is a well defined process and the art of going through it is to have all the details right (like apostolising). Oh and the musquitoes, well, in some wet places they can be a nuisance, but it differs from place to place a lot. Generally not nearly as bad as the Scandinavian forests, haha.

European fuel has a higher octane number; so an imported car has to be adjusted to that.
We Dutchies don't ask for the manager; we are not Karens.
In the Netherlands the best time to buy your first home is 27 years before you are conceived.

bullshit you can make friends .... but you wont make friends when you do not interact.... and about bringing your car from the usa to here you have to pay import tax .... so not worth it as you would have to sell it for more then your actual purchase price you paid

    Interesting video.
Some things are correct and some are not.
I don't know if you heard it correctly. He said single people pay 36% tax rate AND a married couple with 2 kids pay a lower rate of 29% in the Netherlands. He said they do that as to help the parents have more money to use on the kids.
Why did you skip the red light part?
And you asked us to subscribe 3 times after you asked us at the beginning of the video...

You can do maintenance to your own car and modify it if you like but it has to be safe acording to the rules, and get trough axamination (apk) every one or two years depending on it's age.
If it does not pass, the car is not alowed on the road.

  • @Mx-Alba

With regards to importing cars... When you import a used car into the Netherlands, you must pay a hefty tax on it. You can be exempt from that tax if you're moving to the Netherlands and bringing along your own vehicle(s), but those vehicle(s) must have been in your possession for six months prior to moving to the Netherlands, and remain in your possession for another six months after the move. If you sell it before that time is up, you have to pay that import tax. (Source: I moved from France to the Netherlands in 2008 and brought my car along. Rules since then may have changed a bit - I mean, it's not like it's something you'd regularly look up...)

First of all, love your hair like this.
And some things are not foor the whole of the Netherlands. In the eastern part near the German border, rent and houseprisesare much lower. And you can also easily shop your groceries and gasoline in Germany, where it is cheaper.
And also, if you introduce yourself to your neighbors, you could find new friends as well. This by the way count in the whole of the Netherlands.
And in this video he was right about some things but a lot he missed the whole essents.
And also I think a lot of us Dutchies would consider you guys our friends if you came here.❤

    Questions you asked:
Mosquitos: nothing crazy, most of the water is moving water. The Neds are essentially a drained swamp though, so yeah possibly more than average.
Bike theft: obviously this is common, just make sure you lock it well.
Housing: most people seek to buy, rental places are usually unfurnished, most people live in row houses or semi-detached.
Cars: you can work on your vehicle if you own it, it has to pass a yearly test though so botch jobs will cause issues.
Beyond that video has two opinions that seem weird to me. Customer service in NL is not abnormally bad or slow and not learning Dutch is generally just not an issue, there are thousands of people getting by just fine with just English, but yeah you will miss out on large parts of the culture.

Their are waiting list for rental or buying homes . Also to even be alowd on such a waiting list , you must fall under very strict approval rules and regulations . And when put on a waiting list the first time , it’s normal it will take 15 to 20 years before you have moved up on the list to the point rental or house sale organizations will contact you whit offers . There can be given priority to you , but your situation must be very dire before ever being considers a priority . And even then know there are a biljoen more priorities whit you on the priority list . Therefor it still is the same waiting list , same waiting times but under a different name to give you the illusion you have priority . And when buying , do know it’s normal to pay at least 3 times the price that has bin akst , as you are not the only or priority buyer . House sell/buy market is in fact an auction , not he/she who first comes is first served like a line in store for the checkout counter . You be battling other buyers who often have more money to offer , and easy overbid any by at least 5 times . Also landlords , rend organizations and sellers rather rent out or sell to Dutch people then foreigners . A few ecxeptionds but only when you have plenty of money to keep the Dutch happy on a monthly basses of mandatory payments , mandatory subscription payments ect.

You don’t pay tax from the first euro you earn, depending on how much you make, you can get a discount ( Goes automaticly via your employer), its called ‘ arbeidskorting/ heffingskorting’. And if your income is low, you can get subsidie for your health insurance and your rent (when in social housing).
Taken your car with you is only a good idea when its a expensive one. Paying a container for shipping (€1500 i gues) for a 3 or 5000€ car makes no sense.
Take in mind that everything with a electric wire on it will not work here, we have 230 volt, not 110… you don’t have to move that. Getting all the things you need for your house is not so expensive if you don’t have the need to have it all brand new, there are alternatives for that but that’s for later.

Mosquito's are not exessive, because there are a lot of fish that eat their larvae, but never leave stagnant water anywhere, for you will be eaten alive. Horsellies can be horrible in some places in summer. They can drive you mad.

  • @mavadelo
    @mavadelo 5 днів тому

In summer there can be some musquitos but this is not really a country whre they thrive. Yes it is wet, it is also relative cold. It really is only the height of summer they get somewhat annoying, all two days of it.
Yes most of us speak Englsih to a fair degree. But unlike some other countries, we do not make any efforts (aside from airports) to have multilingual signage. You can talk to the people but without knowledge of the language you will have a hard time navigating streets and official business.
Customer Service: That is a load of horse manure. I have never ever in my live waited "weeks" for a reply from any Dutch customer service. Customer Support tickets send to American companies however...... As for "25 people in line", that is also cow excrement, if it is busy you get a message that you better call another time if you don't like to waste that time. And "the manager"... you don't tget to speak to the manager just like that, we know how to deal with Karens overhere.
Housing: Housing shortages are worldwide and are artifically kept up in order to be able to ask higher prices and make sure "the right people live in the right neighborhoods" If there was "enough housing" (there actually is enough, just look around you how many homes and other buildings are mysteriously not rented or sold out) they couldn't ask 1200 for a two room appartment. Besides that, people moving to the Netherlands are stuck to the private sector wich is twice as much at least as the non private sector most Dutch can use. And yes... we buy our own stuff... why would I want to live in a house and sleep on a bed that is not my own and that I have to be careful with because IT IS NOT MINE.
Car: Good thing you actually don't need one here.
8:01 What the hay is he talking about, there is not a country on earth where the government has been as effective of getting people out of a car than the Netherlands. And I am sure Americans go to Mexico every day to buy a cheap car and sell it for profit in the USA right? Or are there maybe some rules in place that will make it not really worth the effort?
9:00 I am starting to get annoyed at this misinformation. It is not hard to make friends, But you have to put some effort in it, just as with any other type of relationship. no we do not "live by our agenda", Yes in most regions it is perfectly normal to hop unanounced by a friend, no we are not spending most of our time inside. "the Dutch are known for their warm and welcoming nature" That is in direct contradiction with everything he just said.
Weather: What is the weather in the Netherlands: Well today it is cloudy
What is the weather in America: Well... in the North there is a blizzard, in the middle there are hrricanes oh and in the South we have a heatwave.
Taxes: Those parents with their two children are not flatout "taxed 29%". there is loads of nuance to that. For example low incomes will get "kinderbijslag" (child support) from the government, ways to help pay rent, medical bills, school etc.
