A ceiling fan that looks a little like the propeller in a plane but with the light in middle round and kind of flat (like a pancake) so that it does not come down like the old fashioned ones. The control can be turned so that you can turn the light on or leave it off. These are very chic, clean and modern looking. Also put a clean round light in the middle of the kitchen with a few recessed lights in the kitchen too. Put the lovely hanging light that is in the kitchen in the dining room. That would look perfect there!

**CEILING FAN WITH A LIGHT** in the living room to circulate the airflow. I would have gotten a sofa with the extended part on the other side so you would not restrict flow to the rest of the house. Put the light you have hanging in the kitchen over the dining room table. Just my suggestions. But what matters most is what you guys like because it is your home. Love you guys! Great work!

I like the sofa with the extended part where it is, as it sort of defines the living room space. But that's just me. Love the recessed and also think a chandelier would be too much.

Rodrigo, you are becoming a great carpenter. Your home is coming along with Freddy's help for sure. Whitewash the boards, water down the white paint and you don't have to sand the paint off. Start with a little water at a time to get the look you guys want. Now touch up on the ends of some trim and caulk the seams, which would definitely be a Freddy job. Your house is becoming your home

Awesome couch. Be careful with the tiles before you complete the floor and grout. The corners of the tiles can break off in the meantime. Chandeliers are for kitchens and dining rooms. Either stick with recessed lighting and replace the regular switch with a dimmer switch to create mood lighting or install a fan in the middle of the ceiling which can distribute air when it's hot and heat when it's cold, especially if you get a little cozy fireplace.

You should think about using the exiting chandelier over the dinning room table and continue more recessed lights into the kitchen. Then use a lamp and/or a pendant light like you have in your bathroom for soft lighting in the living room.

I agree, too! The chandelier in the kitchen would be a real statement over the dining table, and the spotlights/recess lights in the kitchen, especially placed over the kitchen counters, would prevent shadows while you prepare your food. Then a beautiful straw/wicker style light shade with a warm light bulb on a dimmer switch, along with lamps will make an extremely cosy living room.
But whatever you choose to do I'm sure, like everything else you've done will look amazing ❤❤❤

I don’t care for the white trim around the black metal beams on wall. I really liked the way the black beams tied everything together and made the home have that industrial look to it. Now it looks kind of weird with the framing of wood sticking out. I prefer the black beams in view.

I wish you could turn the couch around so the lounge part was along the window. It would open up the space and allow you to see out and window and into the kitchen. The way it is now seems to close off the living room space and make it smaller...Just a thought...Good Job!!

    • @osagemtn
      @osagemtn 4 місяці тому +4

Yes consider turning it as suggested! Need a little more headroom above the couch if you do this? Then build one of those narrow behind-the-couch long tables and, you won't need a coffee table.

    • @lizzytish01

they also could have bought it with the lounge seating on the other side where the slope is, not cutting up the space directly by the doorway. It's such a tight spot. I would have put the dining table there and made the living room where they have the dining table now extending out into the other side of the A frame.

Having an open floor plan is great. It first of all makes the space look bigger. So when you want to make “zones” in the house, like dining, kitchen, living spaces, you do that by making each space unique. So you have the nice chandelier in the kitchen. And that light fixture says “this is the kitchen space” Now that you are defining your living room space, do something completely different. The recessed lights are great for overall lighting. And if I remember correctly, you wanted very white lights, then some warm lights. My suggestion would be, use table or floor lamps with warm bulbs for accents. And not worry about the chandelier. Then your living room will look cozy, and inviting.
Also, at fist I wasn’t sure about the white accent trim, because the black was really letting the wood walls pop. But as you put the white boards up, the room warmed up so nicely. The whole look will be such a nice touch!

*Please consider placing the WOOD BLOCK part of your kitchen chandelier DIRECTLY to the CEILING …for only the black fixtures/bulbs are hanging down. Damn that would look cleaner and amazing!* A floor lamp with a long arm for reading would be best in living room…or a black fan to rotate air and humidity IF you add another ceiling light to living room. It’s good to buy/add things slowly after you figure out your needs. Love the couch…the only thing missing is Roger on it! Instead of hanging another lamp in the L.R. why not just go for a table lamp or two to be your 'mood lighting.' The canned or recessed lights will be good for when you are cleaning and need more lighting. And that would make that room have a completely different 'feel' about it than the kitchen does. Are the canned lights dimmable? To be bright and then low? If you've already cut the hole and wired it in for the hanging light, then change your mind, you can always put in another canned light there, yes? As far as the couch goes, you could you turn it around so that the back of it faces the kitchen, for a change, later, yes? That way you can put the T.V. in the corner, and let the couch be the room divider. Plus, you get to look out the window, too! Just an idea!

Paint boards white and immediately wipe them, and you will get a very similar outcome. “White wash”. Some people only use the white resin at the bottom of the can and do not mix the cans. You can also use a slightly damp rag to wipe off and control the final amount. Stain also can be used.

Everything is looking so cute, but since you can change which side of the couch the chaise part is on, I really think it might be better on the other side, by the wall... the way it is set up right now, the chaise blocks the flow of traffic from your front door, and your kitchen, to the livingroom. Also, just for a future tip... if you want the "farmhouse finish" on your boards, there is an easier way, waiting less paint, and no sanding.... just take a small amount if paint, depending on how much you are going to paint, and thin it with water, or floetrol. Start with a small amount of water, and experient, until you get it the right thinness, and right amount of transparency... then just paint it on the boards... if it is too opaque, just take a wet/damp paper towel, and wipe some off. You will figure it out after a little experimenting, how to get the look you want...😊

I like the style of hanging light you have in the bathroom. The kitchen lights are SUPER cool for the kitchen, but for the living room something a little cozier seems right. You two reminiscing in the shed made me think you should do a recap of all that you've done over the years from the tree house and shower in the jungle to where you are now. It would show you how far you've come. I've also heard other channels say that those recap videos often bring in a lot of new viewers, which leads to lots of new subscribers. You can even highlight how much faster your progress is now that Freddie is on Lola's farm. You could do merch too! Just find a drop ship company create some designs.

Recessed lighting is also called canned lighting. I think all the living room should be recessed lighting with a dimmer switch and add either floor or table lamps as accent/artisic pieces or focal points. I think the highest ceiling in the house should have fans. If you have too many ceiling focal points, they compete with each other instead of being admired, that’s why it’s better to have speciality table or floor lamps as accents.

Living room: leave it just recessed (meaning built in or set into a surface) lighting in the living room and use floor or table lamps along with it. I do like the idea of a chandelier over your dining table and one over your steps. Too many will be visually unappealing and shrink the open feeling of your space. All my opinion for what it'sworth, of course! You do you! Looks great so far!

The kitchen needs lights for doing work. Your dining room needs the table lighted. The living room is most likely just for relaxing and TV viewing, perhaps reading books and magazines too. So lighting on a dimmer switch is a good idea. If you were to add a desk in the living room then you can have a desk lamp on it. If you need more light for reading at the couch you can add a tall lamp next to the couch for that. All of this means there is no not any need for a chandelier in the living room. That solves the issue for would it look good to have one because the answer is you do not need one.

You don’t need anymore ceiling lights and copying the exact same light as the kitchen would take away from the uniqueness of that light. Get mood lighting with a nice table lamp (as another person suggested). If you do put something there definitely install a fan. You can also install a dimmer to light panel so that you can dim the recessed lights to be different levels of intensity.

Black trim!!!! White ceilings for brightness. Just the way it looks now - black gives the grey and wood tones some pizazz!!!!

Love the white trim. Recessed light only in living room, with maybe a standing lamp by the couch. Everything looking beautiful! ❤

I love the recessed lights! However, they may be a bit bright while watching movies and relaxing on your new and beautiful couch. You might consider adding a dimmer switch to the recessed light switch so you can control the brightness of the lights as desired. Additionally, instead of adding a light fixture to the living room ceiling, you might consider placing a floor lamp behind the couch. I and if you decide to go with the floor lamp, look for one that allows you to select the brightness of the light. You can either purchase smart bulbs and control them with the Alexa (or similar) app or purchase a touch sensitive floor lamp. And finally, if you are really set on hanging a light fixture from the ceiling, suggest you hang it over the dining room table with smart bulbs or with a dimmer light switch so you can easily dim the lights for dinner or brighten the lights for game night with your friends. Mucho amor….

No chandelier in living room. Recessed lights are enough ceiling light. Get a floor lamp. Two chandeliers will look very busy

If you are unsure about a center light in the living room area, take the basket weave one from your bathroom and just tack it up so that you can stand back and look at the whole effect and see if you like different fixtures from a distance, before you start drilling holes! 😂

I would get a dimmer switch for the ceiling lights. If you do the chandelier do the same as the kitchen. Small space to much going on, keep it the same and it won't be overwhelming. Make sure you cover the sofa with a tarp when you do the dusty work!

We call it Distressed or antiqued when sanding wood for aged look. So much detail the recessed lights are tucked into surface. Also called puck lights. A chandelier could be big branch and or vines strung with twinkle lights.

Looks amazing, definitely no chandelier in living room. All recessed lighting is classier with a lamp in the corner, a stand up lamp and a coffee table. Also I’m hoping your dinning room is just temporary and you are going to finish it the same way as the living room, but here you do put a chandelier in the center. You guys are doing a great job and I look forward to your weekly videos

You could always put a matching chandelier in the dining area. It would make the 2 areas flow together.

Beautiful couch!! If it is made out of fabric, buy this spray called, “Scotch Guard”. It will put an invisible spray later if protection so you can easily wip up any dirt or spilled items like drinks or food.

Chandeliers are wonderful, UNTIL they have to be cleaned. We have found this to be true here in Mexico. Our friends with Old Colonial Homes with Original Chandeliers have a bunch of trouble keeping them free of insects and dust. Great job guys!!

What a great asset Freddie is to the farm & the building project with her special touches. The lighting you have is plenty, a chandelier would be too cluttered. Use another reset light for the center ceiling light or a shallow (upside down) bowl style light. A ceiling fan could work too but you may have a better position in the house for that. I'm a big fan of floor & table lamps. Also, up-light lamps create a lovely diffused soft light. A dimmer switch would be a great asset. Love the white accent look. You guys are doing so well. Get on with that floor though or you'll have problems matching the new with the older ones as they get damaged with the edges left unprotected the way they are. Watch out for Rodger pulling his claws on that beautiful couch! ...he will need some strong discipline when he starts that.

    Well done….
Just stay with the recessed lights, just put them on a dimmer switch so you can adjust the lighting to the mood at the time…..
Add a side lamp to create more atmosphere at night….
I would put a similar light fitting to the kitchen one over the dining table….

The country/cottage look is great. The mottled wood is called “shabby chic”. Google for more ideas. An inexpensive vintage table could be cut to size for a coffee table and painted, scuffed up and be very attractive. Drawers or shelves would be great for storage.

You don't have to use a specific stain to whitewash wood-you can simply dilute white paint with water. For a thicker whitewash-which is great for a farmhouse look- you'll mix 2 parts paint to 1 part water. a thinned-out whitewash for a subtle, elevated look. For this, you'll need 1 part paint to 1 part water. It would eliminate the sanding off of the white paint, then you could seal it afterwards.
