The 2023 Lexus IS 500 F Sport Performance is one of the last examples of a V8 sports car you can get your hands on, let alone small sports sedans. Save the v8s
From the government?
@@ericohm9474 probably so
@@dcon8602 yeah and I’ve got a highway overpass in PA to sell you
V8’s are gone. Focus on the V6’s friends!
@@realtalk5931v6 better then v8 anyway
This car is gratuitous. That's the best word I can use to describe it. Nathan summed it up nicely in this video. It is a FUN car, not a serious, track-focused car. It's something you want to drive all the time because, not only is it fast and sounds great, it also is very pleasant and smooth. Long live the naturally-aspirated, V-8 powered, compact sport sedan.
Well said! Those are going to be highly collectible in the future! If I only had the money I’d snag one up and never let it go!
The engine is great, but the car itself is not competitive at all! These get smoked by 340i, Q50 RS, and G70 3.3. Sure, those are turbocharged sixes but still... Lexus could've done a lot more with it, at least with the tech and the packaging given the price point.
@@philhenderson3516 It absolutely is competitive. Here are some of the 0-60 and 1/4 times of it's competitors and the Lexus taken from zeroto60times:
Lexus IS 500, 0-60: 4.3s, 1/4 mile: 12.7s
G70 3.3, 0-60: 4.6s, 1/4 mile: 13.1s
Cadillac CT4-V: 0-60: 4.5s, 1/4 miles: 13.1s
Infiniti Q60 RS400: 0-60: 4.5s, 1/4 miles: 13.1s
MB C43 AMG: 0-60: 4.1s, 1/4 mile 12.6s
Audi S4: 0-60: 4.2s, 1/4 mile: 12.8s
BMW M340i: 0-60: 3.8s, 1/4 mile: 12.3s
Obviously, these can all vary depending on model year and conditions, and some of them are priced lowered than the Lexus, but it's very clearly a competitive car. It obviously loses points in driving dynamics, especially compared with the BMW, Genesis, and Cadillac, but it claws its way back in terms of comfort, reliability, and that NA V8.
The interior design is clearly very 2014 (cause it is), but it's just fine, not really offensive (unless you just want to be offended), good materials, and functional. Not the cars strongest selling point, but it's just fine.
I’m thinking about trading my 22 is350 AWD for the is500 u think it would be worth it?
@@rousseau327 It's not a bad car by any means but IT DOES NOT warrant the price tag. The competition excels in pretty much every category except in the powetrain department which is debatable, as it'll be based on preferences. I'd obviously take a V8 over a V6 turbo anyday but not in an antiquated package. Luxury shouldn't have to compromise, especially if they're charging a premium over the others, period.
Would I pony up the money? Hells-Yeah I did. Got it for 2022’s MSRP ($62K), phoned in my deposit, flew out to OKC the next day, and drove it back to the ATL. The IS 500 is not the best sports sedan, but it literally does everything WELL. Plus…I’d argue it’s the best looking sedan on the market today. Thanks for posting! ❤👍🏽💙🙏🏽
@@drew4768 Ultra-CONGRATS!! Buddy…the miles will tick up, just lean in and enjoy it. 😂 I knew mine would not be a garage queen, but I’ve racked up 15k miles in 15 months, and I work from home. I don’t know where all I’ve gone, but I’ve smiled the whole freaking time. 😍 I’m glad you’re loving the car, happy and safe motoring!
It’s such a great car. I’ve had a LOT of cars. But I literally look forward to going downstairs, hopping in my 2023 IS500 and driving anywhere…nothing like it. And I traded an LC500 for it…
Prefer the IS500 so much more. So much.
@@bigdlife86 Amen! Amen! I agree 100%.
How did you pay MSRP??
@@edxonandrade877 Literally the luck of the draw. I was in contact with 4 or 5 dealerships that only sold at MSRP. (You have to be very eagle eyed though, some will play fast and loose with the definition of ‘MSRP’.) And be willing to travel out of State, good luck!
I would take the emotion all day, every day of this V8 powered beauty over any soulless Tesla or other EV.
Looks like someone doesn’t have the need, the need for speed!
@@JollyGiant19uick not fast. Get it right. Plus good luck charging that thing for 10 hours everyday to go “fast” a few times.
The Tesla is an iPad with wheels
You know, I'm willing to bet that the V8 engine will Outlast just about every other inline 3,4 or 6-cylinder out there simply because they were built strong to last long
and it will most certainly out last any performance EV out there today
It's a Toyota, it will go to 250,000 miles without an issue.
Any engine can be built to last long. Building an engine to last long while extracting its maximum potential is the tricky part. In general, the higher the cylinder count, the more reliable the power output. More cylinders reduce the load on any one point of the bottom end. Unfortunately, packaging a V8 is tricky, as it is a similar length to a 4 cylinder, but additional width (especially in the case of dual overhead cam V8s, such as the Toyota/Lexus 2UR-GSE) makes it very challenging to place in a modern engine bay while keeping everything accessible and easily serviced. Old cars had 3 wires, new ones have more than I care to count, and that ultimately puts pressure on packaging. My dream is to live in a world where VR8 engines are the gold standard. An extremely narrow banked 8 cylinder would have the external dimensions of a 4 cylinder, could use a single head for both very close together banks to save engineering time on the timing system and manufacturing costs on the other lump of metal. As an additional note, cylinder deactivation technology is far more viable in narrow angle engines, as 2 banks sharing 1 head allows the deactivated cylinders to keep warm to avoid developing carbon deposits, as is common in many cylinder deactivation systems found in V shaped engines.
bubbleman said it.
You have Mitsubishi's i4 and i6 that are still around today. I drove a Lancer with 998'900 km on it. And I know for a fact, it got over the million, as I was able to see this car with 000143 km on the odo. Also drove old fart Subaru Legacy's and Lexus LS400.
You can build everything to last. But there is a certain approach to that. An approach lots of makers don't want to go anymore. Lexus is still doing it, and it's why I respect them for that.
It will outlast 2 whole electric cars 😂😂😂
Just got mine yesterday, I love it when the engine start up already sold, went out test drive it not even 1 mile trun around and buy it, only spend hour and a half at the dealer. Can't stop smiling on my way home, my son sit next to me keep giving me the wired look😂😂😂
Thats beautiful lol
love my IS500, I can't stop driving it.
Had mine for a little over a month now. Worth every penny. I find myself taking the scenic route home from work everyday just to drive it a little longer 😅
My guy 😅
Adding miles to kill the resale.
Good job 👍

You should
Just got this last week. It’s a mind boggling car. Had to get a custom exhaust made to add more oomph - this will last 300,000 miles like a Land Cruiser .
It better last, it’s old as hell.
So good, and soooo great to drive!
It would make a great stable mate for my Land Cruiser!
@@scottsanders2641 Love mine next to my LX600. Biggie & smalls😂
how much did you paid Out the door for this car ? leaning towards getting one and wondering how much should I be paying
I own GS430 from yesteryear with 300,000 miles on it. I bought it new and still hanging on to it just because it's got V8 (and intake, exhaust, suspension and bucket seat 😂)
Don’t ever get rid of that car. So rare to come by
Best car I ever owned, wish I never traded her in
same lexus did something great with the gs
Agree with you Nathan, what a shame that this beauty with the phenomenal V8 disappears
Gr8 review!!! Terrific car for the money! A fire-breathing, sporty, luxurious TOYOTA! V8 Lexus cars will become highly collectable. While not the fastest spec in the world, they do trigger endorphins in an unexplainable way. Cars like the IS500 are an emotional purchase, but are actually a smart purchase because of the Toyota / Lexus reliability.
Exactly. It's not a cheap car to purchase, but in terms of running costs, you could do far worse!
@@ARentz07 And wayyy better all around than a 5.0 Mustang, for the same money. The IS500 is a keeper.
Seriously the only thing holding me back on buying this car is the money and the amount of time it takes for me to get that kind of money - I don't want to finance another car purchase so I'm saving everywhere I can specifically to get this car. I hope I can line it up in time before the cars go out of production, because this could conceivably be the last four door, practical daily car I would buy for love.
Just finance it for 60 months then pay it off later when you have the cash ! You only live once !
Counterpoint: fender bender aside there's no way this vehicle doesn't outlast the finance terms and doesn't maintain its value long-term.
I appreciate the feedback and advice, but it's a personal principle of mine to not finance a car anymore.
Good luck! The car is worth every. single. penny.
@@Arkeo36 Good choice on prioritizing your personal finances. It's a great car, but not worth it if you can't comfortably afford it. It's much better to wait until you can, even if it means it's discontinued and you have to buy it used at a higher price.
Love mine…it’s just a special car. Period.
I ordered this dinosaur. This will hold its value vs EV’s as they can hardly give them away now.
I absolutely love my IS500. Its a choice I would gladly make again! 🎉💙❤
I'm torn between this and a M340i but in the long run the is500 will be the better option because of reliability and cost to own
That screen in place of the gauges cluster on the M340i is so awful looking. Its an eyesore especially the cheap plastic brackets they put to hold it in place. The IS500 is sweet inside out.
@@martins.5880have you ever sat in a 340? 😂😂. The IS interior 10 years old. The supra has the same engine in the 340 proven to be reliable
Save yourself the headaches w BMW buy this.
@@supremeetnel7707 I have. The M340i has old, boring, and boxy styling that came from the last century. Its interior makes it less of a car and more of an iPad on wheels. At least the Supra has decent styling.
Great car. And like most enthusiasts I hope someone else puts their money where my mouth is when it comes to keeping this V8 around.
this will be running fine in 100,000 miles with minimal maintenence, while you'll be on your second tesla
It’s stunning. Gorgeous. Any performance disadvantage (mighty minor if it even exists) is overtaken by its overwhelming reliability advantage over all of the competition as well as its beauty and its fun quotient. I’m sold.
Dying breed indeed. Just like two door AFFORDABLE cars, V6 engines, V8 engines in everyday cars, and the theft deterrent manual transmission. I grew up and lived in the hood. Beside my late grandfather and late uncle, I’m the only one in the family that can drive stick.😅
If I was going to spend $64k on a car, it would definitely be this. But I bought a Camry because realistically, I'm just going to work most of the time, and I'll be stuck in traffic.
When I really want to go nuts on the weekend, I have a 1200cc Ducati.
So much blathering about the price. It’s a Lexus, the price is the price, and @ around 67k for a legendary natural asp. V8 that will last forever that’s a deal. Limited production, high demand, magnificent engine, this is the Rolex of compact sports sedans. Only a few will be able to own one. If I didn’t already own a 2013 ISF I would order one today, though a good deal on a trade might change my mind! Keep your turbo Benzes and BMWs. Lol.
Save the v8s. Lexus should make more v8 like the is500.
Sad to see these cars go extinct. But a model 3 would probably take it out. However i would take this over the model 3 any day. Beautiful looks and sounds
What a beautiful car and colour.

Its a no brainer, the V8 please!
“I want a hybrid, I want electric”? Not me 😅
I'd be down for a hybrid V8. If the 918 and LaFerrari taught us anything, is it's possible to combine low-end and instant torque with NA engine goodness
def best in class!
Good as it gets right here!
if Lexus bring GS F back with Rear seat sun curtain, make it Hatch Back with New Technology Infotainment, it would be a HOT SALES. or simply make it Hybrid with V8 or make Exhaust sound like LFA or at least LC
A lot of so called "car guys and gals" will dismiss this thing as an outdated relic and pass on buying one even if they have the means right now. I predict in less than a decade they will regret that decision. This thing is being sold in much smaller numbers than other such naturally aspirated V8 swan songs such as the Dodge Charger, Mustang GT etc and will be quite sought after once all car makers have long since switched to making boring EV's. Yes electric fanboys...your AWD glorified golf cart can smoke the IS500 on a drag strip, but in a faaar less satisfying and interesting way. If you dont get it now, you never will.
60k, not bad at all
Too small though
They are all marked up, and the one at my dealership is $88k
@@taipeikartmanThis car is pretty massive and heavy by sports* car standards. Unlike with SUVs fun cars don't add value with size. The payment is for the engine and driving dynamics

2024 will be the last MY for this magnificent car. Get it while you can lads. The one of a kind and last of the last greatest masterpieces of automobile engineering.
Would I pay $64k ($80 canadian) for it? Yes. Over any EV? Yes. Will I? Maybe. Have a Tundra with a V8 and a GR86 manual, so I’m good to avoid EVs until I die. But if I have the $$ lying around, I may add one to the garage before they vanish to foolish ideology.
This with a corsa exhaust would be perfection
I love Nathan and them but i think the IS 500 deserved a better send off review.
I’ll take this over electric any day of the week.
I waited a year and a few months I have the IS500 ultra white there is only 4 in the entire state of Hawaii where I live. I enjoy it very much the drive experience is definitely worth it.
i have ‘23 in ultra white for 7 months now. every drive is a joy!
Y’all are just so sure that EV will become the standard, it’s funny.
I'd buy that over an EV anyday
Ah yes the wonderful rocky mountain destination of Nebraska. Cue Lloyd Christmas
Would take a V8 over some smaller turbo engine in a heartbeat
Beautiful car, amazing price point, Toyota reliability, throaty v8, cool interior, what more would you want.
Man screw EVs!!! Gasoline forever🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Such a sick car. Bummer about the V8s.
This is way much better than any Electric is not about going fast is about having a connection with the car to get to know the soul car

Yeah but you will pay 200k on repair bills
@@bobdylan6773 Yes, because ALL AMG cars require 200k in repairs and ALL Lexus cars have never required a repair. Got it.
I got my IS 500 for MSRP and got a decent trade offer, too.
@@ARentz07 I'm in Miami :( He said a few month's wait and 10 to 15k over sticker. I wasn't that interested so I left it at that.
@@robbielex Next time, you can try phoning in other areas in the country, Miami is a hot spot, so even if the IS 500 isn't exactly a GT3 in terms of desirability, it'll still be hard to get.
Hell no V8 is all I want
Lexus has better resale value in the future. Besides that.... Which car will probably be in your garage 10 years from now? The IS 500 or the Tesla? Fruitful thought
4 door v8 the only other option is dodge with a 5.7 or 6.4 thatll run you the same or up to 25k more, where the build quality ,fit ,finish and options will be less, similar performance and more likely to be stollen, I would pay 59 to 64k for the is500 in a hart beat.
Nice car. I was considering this car but I went with the BMW X3M competition which is faster and only so the Inline 6. The Lexus V8 are nice. Love the paint too and I’m sure it will be very reliable. Because where I live, AWD is a must so I went with the bimmer.
Lol ok
I drive a 2017 GSF and you definitely have to get an aftermarket exhaust, stock is way to quiet!
Electric cars just won't stand the test of time. Petrol rare cars like this will last a life time!
V8's and ICE are not going away. This EV stuff will dampen down once more people get them and their current limitations become more widely known and we see "honest", not fanboy, reviews on them. I actually think that is starting to happen a bit even now.
I admit to being a Lexus fan boy. This is going to be my next car! Watching this video reminded me of the song red barchetta by Rush.
Purchased one 🎉 2023
Been trying to get a Premium in that crazy blue with black interior. Dealer can't find one.
I just wish the IS was a bigger car. It's way too tight inside.
Get a used GS-F
It’s a compact car dude
I got an old GS 400...i do auto body, and lady slid on ice...insurance totaled it out cause parts are spendy...i bought it back to flip it....6 years later its still here...
its a good car.
i really like that formula, and i like the reliability of the Lexus brand...but the styling has been crap the last 5 to 10 years. the grills, the proportions, the odd body lines...no Lexus looks good right now. not a one. And as neat as it would be to upgrade into a newer ride, i don't want an ugly car...
but as far as the screens go, small is fine. here is the deal, it doesn't take a big screen to tell you what music is playing or so you can see which way to turn. and you really can't do much more with them...if you could bring up a browser window or have apps on there to play candy crush or watch Friends on netflix while waiting for the wife to rummage through the sale bins then yea...bigger screens would be nice..but you can't do that, so what's the point?
Looked at one recently, the interior was disappointing. Definitely not worth the price + dealer markups. I’ll wait til interest rates drops and pick up a used one
If I had the money it'd be a no brainier. V8 all day. Miss my old sequoia

Great car with one of the worst transmissions in the market!!! For $65,000 why can’t they put a dual clutch transmission in it….

I wish they keep the 2024 a v8
All new engine of Toyota v6 turbo and v4 turbo they not gonna last long as older models
They should make a exhaust option from factory for tho so it sounds more like the lc500 and gsf
This is not new” the body is old, powertrain is old, engine is old, suspension is old the only Brand new is the price $70k😂😂😂

Get an electric vehicle if you wanna see it turn into a fireball or burn down your house.
I want one but I'd be broke as I earn median average 2023 income
They will be used cars, and all over Craigslist, relax.
Would I rather have a Tesla? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Not a chance. I'm a Musk fan, but his cars have the soul of a high performance hair dryer. Thankfully, I will have assumed room temperature before we are regulated into EVs. I currently drive a 2017 GS350 AWD and love it. My next car will likely be an IS 500 or if I can find one, an L-Certified GS F. Lexus makes performance oriented GTs that won't break. Yep... I'm a Lexus fanboy and old school, unapologetic carguy. Enjoyed your review!
For me, it's between this and a 4Runner.
Love this car!
Initially want a blue one but Got one in Molten Pearl very cool color ❤
I am forever a V6 and V8 classic and muscle car person. Don't care for i4, turbo, Hybrid, and EVs. Don't have $62K for a car either. My 2023 Camry XSE V6 fully load MSRP of $41,305 then adding all other taxes and fees was around $45K. Spent another $1.2K as I dumped/rid of the very dangerous OEM Bridgestone Turanza EL440s asap after driving off the dealer lot for the Michelin Pilot Sport 4s at a tire shop about 1/2 mile from the dealership. The best tires are made by Continental, Pirelli, and Michelin. If anyone cares, took the new Turanza EL440s with only 5 miles driven on them to have shredded because they are dangerous and Toyota really don't care about anyone's life knowing for the last few years they are bad tires. My wife is not car smart and got a 2022 Honda Civic Touring (4-banger) as put crappy OEM Goodyear Eagle Sport AS. Like I said, not a 4-cylinder putt-putt mobile/golf cart guy. I just don't understand automakers using crap tires on most of their vehicles.
EVs are dangerous because the large battery pack under your butt when in an accident smashing together crushing you or they will leak causing health issues or catch on fire. EVs are currently the worst automotive invention around.
I bought a 2023 infra red with white interior. Love it. It is sexy looking, the paint is breath taking in person, comfortable and the engine sound - my kids love it. It will be my Gran Torino for my kids. It’s perfect for me.
Lexus never had a problem making them. Infact I believe Lexus PREFERS to keep making them. However, the market dictates different.
Lol Nathan is the best 😂 cheers brother 👍
“Is this vehicle for you?” Yes please. My ct200 is great on gas, the GS F sport doesn’t have enough power but both are paid off. I need this 😂
wait for depreciation then buy the junker IS 500F, like 5-7 years from now
Man I really wanted one of these, well I still do. But to be honest the interior looks a bit cheap and the car care nut doesn’t like the transmission in it. It’s a beautiful car but I don’t think they’re quite worth their $66k price tag. I think my next Lexus might be the ES300h with the way gas prices are these days. But I will always be pulled to big V8’s.
So is the Japanese v8 as good as old school American v8s
I’d take that Lexus over any electric car 😎
They could of done better with the wheels
Omg I want this car so bad but I love my 2016 IS350 already and can't justify any more car payments
Almost pick that up but got 4Runner instead more practical..
4Runners are fantastic choice

I really really love what i see of this car.
I would not however trade my white 2016 atsv coupe (zzp exhaust..295r 18 pilot ss rear tires...Wow!)for it. You can now get a 16 to 19 with low miles for less than 40k as a shopping option..
