Glad to see you guys addressing this topic in some capacity. I have noticed, for example, that my original basic Cal Kestis figure has face shine but my Deluxe version has a perfectly matte finish. Why the difference between the two when, as far as I can tell, they sport identical head sculpts and paint apps? Seems to me that Hasbro just needs to exercise a bit more care in the quality control sphere of their manufacturing process. Also, do you happen to know if the degree of shine on a particular figure tends to be consistent for the entire manufacturing run of that figure, or can it vary widely from one example of the figure to another? In other words, might there be some General Lando Black Series figures out in circulation that do NOT exhibit the same degree of excessive shine that happened to be on your example of the figure?
Hey Daniel! Thanks for commenting and putting your thoughts out here. I would say that this shiny photo-real thing is actually kind of a new thing. I believe it started with the wave that Moff Gideon was in. Moff Gideon is actually one of the worst in terms of how much shine is on the face and I believe it was pretty universal across the board. The photo-real faces before the Moff wave like Hoth Leia, Bespin Han, Skiff Guard Lando, etc. definitely had some shine, but it was not as bad as some of the current ones. However, I don't remember Bo-Katan or Koska Reeves having that insane amount of shine. Thanks for watching! -Justin

Sick Spawn shelf my guy . My gf was asking why my backback was making a rattling sound yesterday. That's my can of matte sealer lol. That stuff is great. I use it after doing washes to protect the paint and to take shine away. Great video tip, super easy and worth it.

Something I've noticed is the shininess actually fades over time. Figures like Riva, Cassian Andor, and Saw Gerrera have all matted out since they've been on display.

Dude I'm late to this, but I just used this stuff on like half of my collection and WOW. There was some weirdness on some of the faces that I didn't even realize was being caused by the shine. I just figured the face print was blurred but NOPE. Night and day dude. 2022 Ahsoka came out INCREDIBLE. Absolutely incredible. Thanks man 👍🏼

I've done the same thing using Krylon 1311 flat clear sealant. And it is like $3-4 a can. Just in case anyone wanted an easier and cheaper solution. Be careful with this spray from Mr Hobby, it will destroy waterslide decals if you use it on a custom using any.

Great video and solution to the glossy problem. I went ahead and ordered a can of this stuff. Can you tell me if there’s any lingering residue after it dries? Is it sticky or tacky? Do you have to buff it out with a cloth? Does buffing it out cause the matte finish to wear off and the glossy shine to return? Sorry about the million questions….😵💫
Thanks Gumby! Okay so as far as I can tell, there is no residue left. It dries on and stays on. It does not feel tacky or sticky at all. I quickly tried to rub it off and it didn’t take it off. Hope this helps! -Nate
