Nice to watch, im a German Industrial Mechanic working in Cold Rolling ,Cutting and Hardening Factory, i often work on the hydraulics and mechanics of the these things (in german called Haspel). These things can(with a big motor and gearbox) roll up several cm thick steel(or any other but not harder material) band to coils. Me and my collegs maintain, repair and make emprovements to old and newer machines, but we have only samll and big Maual lathes and mills, the most milles/turned parts are buyed, but if some replayment part is not there or we neet something new fast we build it in time curse the machines(steel processing) have to run. so sometimes i also have to use the mills or lathes, the biggest part that i machined was a 3000x250mm Zylidner Rod.

Thanks Chris. Impressive as always. And to think you don’t have an army of programmers “helping” you. All conversational. Keep them coming!

Very cool finish and details in such a massive part. Can only imagine what it looks like after being used and abused in it's environment...Thanks for sharing.

Just wondering Chris, in all of the shops you have worked in, do you have a favorite machine, or type of machine you enjoy running.
I ask because there was a machine I trained on that was low production, but straight forward to run and maintain. It was slow but also a joy to operate. I was wondering if others had a similar experience.

Depends who invented the machine. A perfectly designed machine is a joy to work on.

Thank you as always for taking us along! Those are some big pieces, but then if you're going to coil tens of tons of steel onto those rollers...

    9:14 - "spacer" - in English "a walk" - like here, "a walk in a cake" ;-)
