Hello friends! The electrical gremlins crept up on us while on the road in Naples, FL a month ago. Has this happened to you? The truck randomly seems to "turn off" yet you can still drive? No power to the instrument panel but the windows work?
This is an issue some have experienced and its related to problematic relays in the fuse box under the hood near the firewall. Nissan refers to that fusebox as the Intelligent Power Distribution Module or IPDM. There was a recall on this and they changed the entire fusebox board completely.
However, we stumbled upon a thread (link below) on this forum that explains which relays can be replaced to fix the problem for $24 (eBay link below) instead of forking over $350 for a new board. We show you where to find these relays and how easy it is to swap these out.

I am somewhat hesitant to insist this is an end all to the problem. I am convinced this will only help some people and not all. Our issue seems to have subsided but I do still have an irregular oil pressure reading. It's fine for 3 seconds after a cold start but then immediately raises by 25%. Unfortunately, this is just going to have to be a long drawn out conversation for some, myself included.
Despite all that I'm confided this Frontier community can help you one way or another so PLEASE COMMENT BELOW on your situation or experience with this issue.
THANK YOU ALL WHO HAVE SUPPORTED US!!! OUR CHANNEL HAS GROWN 10 FOLD THANKS TO YOU!! MUCH LOVE!! GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!

I had the same problem last night the cluster will shut off and throttle wont respond but cluster restarts again in 5-7 seconds and reads a high battery voltage on the cluster and slowly goes down again but after that the truck is fine again
I did pick up the pickup at auction but i had put 5,000 miles on it and it was just fine

I know this is an old thread. But similar situation is happening to my 06. Wondering if you figured out the issue??

Yea. The issue of it “dying” while still driving was fixed by the fuse(s). I think a bad alternator somehow started the problem because after fixing the issue in this video, the truck stopped charging about 5k miles later. After replacing the alternator I have had no further electrical problems.

This was temporarily fixed by replacing all 3 bad fuses. But I think it needs a new fuse board. It still does it but it’s very intermittent and only lasts for a min maybe. Unlike before it was for as long as 1 hr.

I have a 2005 Xterra and pretty much the same thing happened to me. When I started the Xterra, the oil pressure guage was giving false readings (getting stuck at no pressure, then at medium pressure). After about an hour of driving, the guage cluster shut off and the gas pedal wouldn't work. I went to turn the key to restart, but the starter grinded because the engine was still running. A few people seem to say their problem was oil leaking on the alternator. Others hint at the IPDM. So far, you're the only other person who also had a malfunctioning oil pressure guage/sensor. If you do plan to replace your IPDM, people on the Xterra forums swear that you can get the 284B6-ZE03B IPDM which is only $200.

@@overlander46 it makes sense to me that Nissan intentionally did that to prevent the liability of you driving around, not knowing how dang fast you’re going lol. I really wish I had of bought the board six months ago when it was only $80.

@@TheAdamConnersHey just to add an update to this, it looks like it was my alternator. About a week after I had this incident (the guages and throttle shutting off) I drove for about 20 min when then throttle shut off, but the guages still worked. I shut the car off and it wouldnt start back up. The battery died while driving so i had to have someone bring me a spare battery to drive it home. When I tested the battery voltage, it was 12v with the car off and 10v with the car on. So I replaced the alternator and oil pressure sensor and the Xterra has been driving fine for 3+ weeks. The connector to the alternator was cracked and basically only held together by the rubber O-ring. There was also some corrosion on the pins that I cleaned off. So im not sure if the alternator failed because oil was spilled on it by the previous owner or if the connector was corroding. Either way i haven't had any weird electrical issues since.

@@overlander46 wow man your situation is way more intense than mine. Glad you got it all resolved and back on the road. Thanks so much for the update that helps a lot!
