yeah, that was the first thing i've noticed when i bumped at their music. i remember i thought "man, they must be insane!". and indeed, they never dissapointed me in this, or any other regard for that matter.
They are still being held against their will. Although Eric has been granted his Kick Drum privileges back for good behaviour, so its not all doom and gloom.
I agree... it's dense and not easy to digest (just as Tales of topographic oceans from Yes was like in 1973) PLUS it goes a hundred miles an hour, still it is congruent in it's whole "chaos-madness-bestiality-postdigital-horror" aesthetic, which renders this record a masterpiece indeed. In it's own frankenstein on cocaine way.
At first i thought it was brilliant, then I kind of stopped listening to it. It is one of my least favorite of the year (a funny sentence.). However, with time, I find it to be fucking solid. definitely above average dark rock.
Michael Hand yeah, for a while I only listened to the Balrog vs lord of lighting and I would take the record off. But as time has passed, I've given the other chapters a try and they're nothing short of genius. Such an amazing story and the dialogue between the man and the altered beast is amazing. The soliloquy by han-tyumi is amazing as well.

I love how the rhythm carries through the drums and bass and guitars simultaneously but independently at the same time, so that whenever the drummers need a break the rest of the band picks up and back and forth. Truly an Altered Beast

@@Heute_vor...Jahren I'd say either a 5/8 bar followed by a 6/8 bar, then repeated, or 11/8. Or could also be heard as three 3/8 bars and a 2/8 bar. For the drums I'm a bit lost, it sounds like 11/8 too, personally I hear "one two three four five sixone" where the "and" of the six is skipped, which is the feel of 11/8 for me. Anyone more knowledgeable than me feel free to drop a correction if wrong ! Edit : after playing along for a bit I think this is definitely 11/8 on both parts. The guitar bar starts with a feel of "3+3+3+2" and after a certain number of cycles the drums and bass come in playing the part with the shortened 6th time. If you listen closely, they start playing exactly after the guitars complete a cycle, so right after the short time (2 in my feel explanation). Lol this is unbearably badly written but sorry I have no clue how to explain it better
@@TheTourtopoulais I agree. In the beginning it sounds a bit weird, but when the part "I don't feel heinous..." comes I also hear the 11/8 time (one two three four five and)
@@Heute_vor...Jahren Ah this is interesting because for me, the "I don't feel heinous" part is a mystery, I can't count properly and fall on the downbeat, while the previous parts are very easy to my ear. Fascinating !
Adapted I know but I think that's why it was so great, it fits in better now with the whole 5 albums, this music is theatrically epic, also gives people a nice recording without the narration that people didn't like
An old good friend of mine, who's also a very good musician in his own right, listened to this show and said they were crap. I laughed and told him to pay closer attention. But he did admit Sketches is a great album.
Right?! I didn't care too much MOTU when it first came out, but now I can't stop listening to it and Sketches. Definitely my favorite King Gizzard albums at the moment.

I still think the Altered Beast suite is one of the best things they've ever made. It's so damn cool.
I strongly agree. Theres a simple yet somehow proggy feel to the songs that is tough to find with modern music.
There is 10 seconds in alter me III that is the best looped bass run I’ve ever listened to
One of my fav albums no doubt
two drummers that stay perfectly in sync through all those passages I've never seen anything like it

You should check King Crimson, they have 4 drummers and are founders of progressive rock.
The performance seems pretty flawless, so tight, I love tight rhythm sections
ZAPPA!
Check out Thee Oh Sees! Stu was inspired by that band and the front man John Dwyer. They also have two drummers of this caliber. It's kickass.
Third time on KEXP and Eric and Cav still look like they're being held against their will.
hahahaha I bet it's hard to focus on tight synch with those hundred miles per our rhythms shifts hahaha but yeah, they do seem to suffer.
They are still being held against their will. Although Eric has been granted his Kick Drum privileges back for good behaviour, so its not all doom and gloom.
They're rushing to get it over with xD
realistically, dude is right about the difficulty focusing, but im sure that this is beyond satisfying to pull off no matter the work it takes.

The riff on Altered Beast IV is absolutely insane
Bass line at altered beast IV and polyrhythm on drums is what I live for. The rhythm section rips.
@@isabellabienert3982 just sounds like regular 11 time to me, no polyrhythm but I might be wrong
Their rhythm section is the tightest of any band I’ve ever heard. The progressive nature of the track is what makes it so fucking awesome I’d say
I don't think there's a polyrhythm there
yeah and the beauty of it , is the fact you can shake your head as if it was 4/4 even if it's 13/11 or shit
The KEXP King Gizzard recordings NEED to be on vinyl! Best live performances I've ever seen.
