kinggizzardandthelizardwizard...
Rumour has it they took a 5 minute break during this and wrote 4 albums.
Salad Days Chuckard Norizzard
Hahahahahah
They crap GOOD SHIT!
Lol
king gizzard is one of the only bands I have ever seen that can pump out albums as fast as they can, while arguably there isn't a single bad album they have ever put out. it all has a theme, some creative twist, and a minor narrative to connect the songs in the albums.
0:58 Ambrose performs his iconic pidgeon dance, cookie is unimpressed.
HAHAHAHAAHAHAH I found that dance a bit weird too 😂😂😂 omg
"Let's do a traditional sea shanty tune about a muddy river with wah-wah leads all over it and a high-octane guitar solo, and let's have it finish up the Crumbling Castle suite." - the best band in the world
i was born in the right generation
fk yeah
:D

Love this comment..
before King Gizzard I thought music is gettin worse and worse
Then i herad them and other flightless bands
And my eyes were open
I discovere bands from around the world that expand rock music to a new level
Or some that make their own retroperspectiv sound of the 50s to the 80s the greatest time for guitar based music🙌
ok
"Poly-wand-gana-land" -Cheryl Waters, 2018
Makes me cringe every time...
@@SHEPxPARD she's awesome though so we'll pass on that
Ambrose's voice on Muddy water sounds DELIGHTFUL!
"I PREFER THE CHERYL WATER"
"We had this idea to make a record with various different styles. Then we turned that into 4 distinct records based on each style. Then we had extra time left so we made a fifth record lol"
I really appreciate that you can hear the maracas.
yes man! your feelin it too!
The mix in these KEXP videos is always so clear and defined. The video resolution as well. Top channel.
Emil Weis you have Stu to thank for the Audio Mixing in these videos XD
Me too!

The Victor Maia p
I'm completely amazed by how good Ambrose's singing sound live
ThePepe5861 easily the best singer in the band. Stu brings the energy though.
They're all masterful musicians.
under-used !
His I prefer the muddy waters were top notch here
ThePepe5861 agreed!!
Well, his own band (The Murlocs) is also top quality music, and you get to enjoy his sweet voice in every song
THE DRUMMERS ARE SINCHRONIZED PERFECTLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Every now and then it bugs me that I don't know what parts they do differently, but then I notice them both nail a roll perfectly in sync and I stop caring.
Nevereven noticed there were two. Goes to show🤯
@@linusporter1091 if you or someone stumbling upon this wants an example: 21:30 in the wheel. They play the hi-hat together, but Cavs is playing ghost notes on the snare while Eric is playing cross sticks on the snare.
This band is mind-blowing. So great to see a band really take the brakes off and let their creativity run wild. Reminiscent of early Zappa & Mothers of Invention, King Crimson, Yes. But not derivative of those groups. King Gizzard is forging ahead with their own style and sound. It's fucking brilliant, and it's exactly what we need in this era of corporate dominion and artistic conformity.
Let your freak flags fly.
Brian Wright
I love how they’re completely independent and run their own label as to have complete creative control over their music.
You can bet some Hollywood suit type would love to sink their fangs into this band
Right the fuck on!
I’m glad that they don’t let constraints of the world and what music should sound like drowned out their awesomeness!
Lord Of Onions same here! I found this groovy group last week and have been in a trance ever since!
Brian Wright couldn’t agree more!!
Quality aren't they. Competent imaginative musicians. Remind me abit of Horselips and Gentle Giant
That transition between Crumbling Castle and Fourth Colour is so good.
And what about The Fourth Color to Deserted Dunes that's pretty sick too
Epic transition
I baptize thee in the name of the gizzard, the lizard, and the holy wizard, amen.
blessed be thy soul
😍😍😍😍
Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice
Christopher Laskoski yessssssssssssssssss!!!!
Blessed by The Lord of Lightning
Each song is like a gigantic math problem where each band member has their own area on the chalkboard to solve their part, and yet they all somehow arrive at the same solution at the same time
Matt Podjeski That's awesome, I love it..
WTF? dude
That comparison is quite accurate :D
this.
Poly-rhythm my friend
The drumming transition between songs at 15:40 was CRUCIAL

Cook: "You're goddamn right"
Sorry if I'm being uncultured and the answer to this should be obvious but where did that come from? ;-;
Chay Willingham, exactly, haha!
StrangelightSyd, Breaking Bad, bro... or sis.
Sucks to see Eric leave King Gizzard, at least he’s focusing solely on Flightless Records. Cheers to our favorite second drummer!!!
mans has chops for days playing all those 8th notes on one hand
What are you saying
@@pillcovlog2927 chops is a percussion term for playing notes. the better "chops" you have, the faster, louder, longer, and higher u can play. w eric hitting the hi hat that long that fast at that dynamic, he's got chops. if u wanna check out other players w really good chops, watch any dci drumline warmup.
Cav writes and records all the drum parts, so they just need to get another great live drummer to follow his lead. I will miss Eric though, he's a cool dude.
@@skystudios2474 doesn't look like they're gonna get another drummer! Cavs is great by himself but the two drummer thing is too cool imo
"Not going to put out 5 records, probably not going to say that again". Yet here we are again, crazy
The wheel is the most underrated song they do. Nobody ever talks about it.
such an insanely good message too
i prefer the Cheryl Waters
that would actually be a cool band name
I've seen this comment somewhere else before. Hmmm...! 🤔
Hilarious anyway, haha.
Cheryl is almost a band member. =)
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA you made my day, dude
Hahahha that got me badly
I love how Stu is always the audio mixer for all of these sessions
Windowpane Heil to the king!
FOR REAL? Fuck, the mixing is amazing, the guy is a genius
The man is a certified pro
He has got it locked down so perfectly so that the bass is never overpowered by the 3 guitars. Such a kickass sound.
He mixes all of their shows/albums
This version of muddy water... holy hell
Levi J. Miller right !! It’s beautiful in so many ways
It’s better than on the album my god
@@MetallicaFan5591 Joey's solo tho.

Going through the comments and not seeing any negativity or little fights. Sez a lot about the band and the kind of people they attract. Peace!
Idk man i love giz and i'm of a dick
@@AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH Lol I hear that
This has to rank among the hottest 25 minutes any band has put on tape. They are destroying the fabric of the universe with this incredible rock. King Gizz fucking rule.
I still can't get over how fresh that celtic vibe on Muddy Water sounds. Wish they'd release more songs like it. Call the album Microtonal Potato.
Yeah, it reminds me of pirates for some reason.
How weird, it gives to me a east european or even a middle eastern feeling... but then again, rhythms are older tan humanity, perhaps rhytmic patterns trascend humanity hahahaha
Yeah, I get that sense too, but something also gives me a celtic feel. I don't know what. Maybe you're right and they're more similar than we think. I'm no music historian, alls I know is I like it!
Pirate themed King Gizzard album? Sign me up!
My comment wasn't to say that they WEREN'T Celtic sounding. The pirate vibes are just what I got out of the song which is pretty similar to Celtic rhythms from what I can hear. Either way, good observation and long live the Gizz.
I'm so glad I got to hear KGatLW before going deaf from listening to KGatLW. Bless you, boys.
So glad they played Deserted Dunes here, that song really doesn't see the discussion it deserves.
One of my favorite songs on the whole album
^vfucking love that song and the little motif riff they play before returning to the main rhythm sounds like it could fit into the soundtrack for ARK Survival Evolved
yeah my favourite
Yeah that song is my second favorite on the album behind CC.
Cheryl Waters is DEFINITELY the eighth member of King Gizz
Weird way of spelling Jason Galea
ah mira
8th member Jason galea, 9th member Han tyumi, 10th member is cheryl waters
Don’t forgot Sam the sound guy
@@robyn051 AND Kevin Suggs.
Love Ambrose's shirt and how the cameras keep trying to avoid it in the shot!

EEEEEEEEEEEYYUUPP OOOKAY
heeeeyuuup
Ayy we got the same name and like the same band lol
Especially in the last three years, King Gizzard has established itself as the largest alternative rock band in creative activity on Planet Earth. No doubt about it.
Count me in! They did 4 gigs in Istanbul in 2018, what a year!
Too bad a lot of activity doesn't necessarily means making good music
Yes exactly. Cheers from India.
@@alfredox17 True, luckily King Gizzard was able to pull off making good music while being extremely prolific.
@@alfredox17 It does in this case. Can't think of a single bad album from these guys, but that's just me
Whenever I hear Muddy Water I picture the band as pirates hahahaha
Humberto Sandoval That’s how I feel when I listen to Perihelion now
I love these guys so much, Just discovering this in 2024.
Cheers.
Cook looks like he steals trucks for the band
Eric looks like a drug lord.

@@moka8267 I can't say I agree with you
Holy cow it king gizzard in the lizard wizard. once the train leaves the station you better hold on tight!
Jesse oh yeah!
someone should start a petition to make gizz the house band for KEXP lol. so happy to finally hear poly material mixed live
I can't get over how well mixed these sessions sound
Stu mixes them!
this version of the wheel is ridiculously good
Stus fuzzed guitar after amby's second verse 🥵
When Crumbling Castle was ending I though to myself "please transit to The Fourth Color" and they did it!!!!
Miguel Mondardo wait the fourth colour on here!!
Let me watch it all the way to the end
Miguel Mondardo omgggg they doo!!!! It’s beautiful 😍
best transition ever
@@lord_chardak the transition into muddy water was sexy as well
my gizzard senses were tingling. i am satisfied as always
when the drums start playing polyrhythms with each other in the middle of crumbling castle :)
don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened
8:49 gets me every time.
The intro to that song gets me hyped as fuck, especially when combined with the two songs before it! Polygondwanaland is really just a masterpiece of an album.
7:45 gets me
8:24 Gets me even more
This host looks like she gives absolutely amazing hugs
Yes, I'll have the all you can eat time signature buffet please.
Like watching Da Vinci paint
Damn you're old.
More like watching Jackson Pollock randomly drip gallons of paint on a giant canvas while surrounded by a circle of art snobs furiously masturbating and praising the genius of it all
😋
More like Psychedelic Fauvism
More like listening to some sublime music.
Joey needs to rip some more fat guitar solos like in muddy water
his solo on muddy water is incredible, some robby krieger vibes in it
I would love to know what’s going on in Cheryl’s head standing a few feet away from these geniuses while she hears these songs live for the first time? I’m watching for the hundredth time probably and I still get emotional. This is just the greatest music ever.
She's probably thinking "damn this is loud"
I haven't played in a band in a few years and watching this makes me want to play live music for the first time in forever. idk if I've ever seen a band that is so completely off the rails while being utterly tight

Carrot Gamang you are the coolest!
Thanks mannnn 🎃
all these castle references seems a bit, err, retro
IMO they have never sounded better than this Muddy Water performance. In the words of Cheryl: HOLY COW
This version of Deserted Dunes Welcome Weary Feet is so fucking magical to me. It's way more lively than on the album
Joey's part in castle in the air just fills my heart with jo(e)y
Joey is a weapon on that guitar. Love his unique licks.
ilsognoastratto yessss Joey is the man 😍😍😍
That's a pretty fucking good lick.... and sounds different in both the time signatures too!
I've heard this on repeat for 2 years straight and only now I noticed Eric counting the weird time signatures at 13:56!
It looks like he’s scolding the kit 😂
I love the short stuttery, regimental drum lead-in to ‘muddy water’, giving time for band members to swap guitars at 15:46
Ambrose's backing vocals in Muddy Water are so fucking amazing
Hopefully one day King Gizzard can secure the rights from these KEXP performances to come out with a KILLER live album
It’s like listening to galaxies fuck
Ayyyye Stu dropping the f bomb on the radio
faaaaaaaaaaack When was it?
Jacob Fogarty during the interview at the end
Creaturefiendyo Wow I didn't expect it but I also did at the same time.
It's KEXP no surprise there..
You can say anything you want on the radio where i live lol. And i remember some kids shows in my youth that had penis jokes
I've seen them play muddy water live, but this is still the best version I've heard.
It almost feels weird that they haven't released an album in 8 months
Dalton Lunn with what they've released over the past few years, I'd be fine if they took a few years off recording and blow us away when they come back.
Dalton Lunn Exactly. With any other band that would be totally normal, but not for King Gizz.
Dalton Lunn right! Hopefully they play new music at desert daze in Cali in October
Lexi None they said they’re going to take a year off of album releases
Trevor Arndt that’s a ok those guys deserve it!
I can wait a year to hear something new!
And here I was thinking we'd never have another legendary rock band
They had Pink Floyd we have King Gizz
A great rendition of Pollywollygonkadonkland by King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard!

That version of The Wheel... holy hell it just blew my mind. So much better than the album version. These guys are so good when they slow things down a bit and give it a little gravitas.
So much for that whole "don't think I'll say that again" @ putting out 5 albums in one year lmao
Love this session, always come back to it. The mix for Deserted Dunes and Muddy Water sounds so so good, plus Cavs really nails it, the dude has forearms of steel.
Jake Currant the level of endurance and synchronization between Cavs and Eric is incredible

Independent of the music they play, you have to appreciate that this is the world's best name of a band.
Five years later and this is still blowing me away every time. Not enough hyperbole in the universe.
Best Version of Muddy water
Absolutely throttling and Ambrose’s vocals makes my hair stand up
even better than the album!! really like the roughness live version adds
Huge fan, in fact I saw them later this high in Seattle. I literally do not listen to their albums.
A couple music friends and I have this term we use, "sonic geometry". This band has it. All their layering and odd patterns in 3, 5, 7 etc. are as enjoyable to a passerby who has never heard the band, or a high level musician who knows all the tricks, at the exact same time. That is a real accomplishment.
Nick McGarvey I swear these guys in a few decades will be looked at as legendary. And their many styles will be very influential to future aspiring musicians
They are already a legendary band
0:00 the beginning
2:34 a little bit later in the video
32:09 basically a bit closer to the end
17:00 right at 17 minutes good job
37:03 the last second of the video
enjoy, you're welcome.
benjaminja77 you’re doing the lord’s work, son.
17 minutes good job😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 You made my day!
I appreciate this shit. Kudos
Life saver
Was looking for time stamps, thanks
Is ANYONE doing what KEXP is doing in Seattle? Crushing live music with so so so many good bands from literally EVERY genre and EVERY continent. The answers no. Nobody.
Oh umm...thanks for this live show. These guys were Pink Floyd experimental and yet still good. Didn’t want show to end. Bravo.
Imagine being the greatest band in the world.
I'm really into Cookie's new cult leader look.
Yeah he's finally found it.
Eddie Deyzel Eric kinda looks like a South American drug lord
@Joey Pruitt I was thinking the same thing! 😂
i was thinking he looked like a bond villain but cult leader fits perfectly too
1:01
Best band in the GIZZVERSE
transition into the fourth colour is ascended
Somehow the KEXP mix is always better than the actual album mix 😂
It's because they are a better live band imo. Also Stu does the live mix sooo...
@@DUFMAN123 also I think kexp simply has a better studio overall
Love Cheryl’s reaction to muddy water
Fuck i love this session
I know that feeling bro it's one of the best 15 mins of progressive psychedelic rock
Damnnnn this band is so tight. I love this.. it's like a cross of Rush, TheeOhSEEs, and Hawkwind.. feels like an endless groove.. love this band.
All of their KEXP performances are so good i can't even choose which one i like the most, amazing !
Lamia Oua I like their first one mostest
I love all of them but the river/mind fuzz one is a blast
1. The River/I'm In Your Mind
2. FMB
3. MotU
I'm still listening to this one so I don't know how I'll rank it.
Murder of the Universe is my personal favorite, this one was no slack though.
Cant deny the river / im in your mind. God that was sick. What got me into them.
This version of "Muddy Water" gets me every time. This set is so strong. So tight. I can't wait until things straighten up and I can go see them.
Wow, rush, camel, Zappa, sabbath had a child! Absolute........
The whole Polygonwanaland album is such an inspiring albums that it gave me ideas on what to paint
Watching any other band after this is like watching a child cook a 3-ingredient cake.
That's got to be right up near the top of KEXP live performances.
I met Stu in Philadelphia and he told me about how he mixes the KEXP and other radio shows. He takes ownership of his bands creation, and he does it himself. It's very cool. KEXP... you put on very good shows. Thank you!
