Funny watching this in the future and hearing Cheryl say "you're so prolific - you release an average of 2 records per year." Meanwhile here in 2022 they put out 3 albums in October.
The last refrain of The River around 8:00 is just magic. These guys. Writing this comment in 2022 - they've got a new song out (which is good) and are on the cusp of releasing three albums next month (once a week starting October 7). They just don't stop.
Fucking love this set. Anyone who wants to whine about a lack of good music out today, look no further than KEXP. Some fucking amazing stuff goes through their doors.
I love whining about how bad music is nowadays. That doesnt mean that King Gizzard isnt fucking brilliant and maybe even some levels beyond fucking brilliant....
I came for the epic epic name, and the fact it is kexp, I was like surely this had to be great, but I never expected to found Matthew McConaughey with a 12 string guitar, a Scorpions fan John Meyer look-a-like in guitar, a grown up Mikey Blumberg with a Rickenbacker, Ben Affleck playing a bass labed like bass, two guys playing drums, Tiny Tim's grandson and an electrician(yes, taken from another comment) and a stoner guy shouting and playing an armonica and maracas. The perfect band. Australia had been producing so many good bands for quite some time, is like they are stucked in a 60's dimesion, is freaking weird down there. I love it.
I feel like I'm listening to fucking geniuses. Genuine masters and future legends. It's like someone blended Mozart, Jimi Hendrix, and a didgeridoo into a distorted electric guitar and plugged it into my soul.
Wow Love this! As a 55 year old, struggling to look for decent new music and lo and behold! Was turned on to this by someone I spoke to on line about Hawkwind. Good to see that artistic music still exists
+OneMinuteFixed it's crazy right? I was at a hipster kind of festival, and everybody was just jamming like crazy! Such a good feeling. When their gig was done, one of the drummers even threw me a water bottle. Awesome band.
well, one year late and i love every single thing they released, got to see them live in what turned out to be the best festival experience i ever had, and may also get to see them live again this year in primavera sound Porto. These guys are incredible
Wow, I remember that I listened to this when I was studying in Canada, which is 6 years ago! How times were different back then, me experimenting with weed and enjoying this so much. Now, later, I'm enjoying this sober and it still amazes me. The interplay between the guitars is so wonderful. I'm grateful for the times I spent in Canada, but so glad that I'm older now.
It's crazy this interview is only 7 months old and the record they're talking about bringing out has already been preceded by another. Productivity within these guys is !nsane...
The first time I listened to this, from the start up until the vocals kick in, I was really feeling it, and when the change and vocals kicked in I was like "Ah fuck they ruined it" and moved on, and that was my only experience of king gizzard for like a month, until I ended up back again for whatever reason. They went into the change and it was like I was hearing it all over again. Having listened hundreds of times since, I've come to feel that The River is one of the most well composed and groundbreaking songs of the 21st century.
How many wonderful artists have i discovered with a help of this station! Hope there's more to come. Great band, terrific performance. Thaks, thanks and thanks to KEXP.

Word of advice, if King Gizzard is in your town fucking do yourself a favor and go see them!! 10/10 also made it on the door list for the 2n nights show! Shows how cool these guys are!
i disagree. a healthy dose of self indulgence is what makes music interesting imo. and lets dispel with the myth that the guitarists aren't jerking themselves and each other off during this entire performance. nothing wrong with it :)
That 5/4 in The River is pure bliss… only true musicians know how to make it clean. You can easily lost the tempo if you lost the beats and the numbers.
Here in 2024 with sweet sentimental misty eyes. Look at these young men around the start of their career and especially at the start of their trajectory breaking into the USA scene. Now they're bringing 20k people to The Gorge, throwing festivals, melting faces, doing arena tours, performing with orchestras. So cool to see the gift in this video, the seed, which was nurtured and grown through so much hard work to sprout into a machine eating psychedelic monster of a band that creates a whole scene and subculture in its orbit. Hell yea.
Just heard King Gizzard for the first time yesterday, and immediately purchased tickets to see them perform May 9 at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Gonna be a good night.
Makes me recall the taste of ketamine which is what i was on when king gizzard clicked for me. I had heard them before as soley a metalhead discovering Rats Nest but when i started doing psychs and branched out into psych-rock i forgot about them. Until that fateful night...
Their songs are so long they need two drummers in case one passes out
Accurate as fuck haha
yeahh, probably 1 more song long haird drummer would
:D
Anyway, I am amazed how they play so perfectly in sync. Sometimes they both play the same thing you can't even hear there's two of them.
Amazing that they are so tight it only sounds like one!
you forget one thing fam, these kinda drummers never ever pass out
I only clicked on this because of the band's hilarious name & now I realise how fucking good of a choice that was
And so now you know how fucking cool they are :)
Welcome to the gizzard trip my friends

The River is just a freaking masterpiece!!
I give it a 5/4.
Matthew Hume Haha perfect!
i dont get it

Hahaha well played sir!
3 guitarists that ACTUALLY play together! wow! Love the Aussie bands!
it's like psychedelic allman bros. meet canned heat, tull, steely dan... so many great sounds and still a sound all their own... awesome.
AND 2 drummers that actually play together!
kelly gilford hell yeah they take so many styles but are still just soo original, it's a fantastic band
hey, could you name some good 90s NZ bands, thanks.
