As a Gen X-er, I really enjoy having my musical horizons broadened by your show. I recommended the Periphery video to my adult son after watching this episode, and discovered that he loves them and has seen them live! He was, however, rather shocked that I'd heard of them and he proceeded to tell his friends "You'll never believe what band my mom recommended to me.." Thanks to you I now have some serious metal cred amongst the twenty-somethings. Rock on!
One of these days, and no one will be entirely sure when, Justin is going to start playing that "rides again" theme tune but it won't stop after the first line. It'll continue into a second line, then a third, then there'll be a chorus and another verse, perhaps a musical interlude and it'll continue until he finishes singing the song. And it'll be the best thing we've ever heard.

Damn, Justin. Periphery is in my top 5 favorite bands of all time. You have a long, awesome journey ahead of you if you decide to dive into their past, and upcoming, records. Wish I could erase my memory and become a fan of them all over again. Icarus Lives! Was life changing for me when I first saw it.
This band has such a diverse range of songs. Many people will recommend some of the fan favourites, which is fine, but I'm gonna recommend you listen to Lune. It is completely different from this one and an amazing track. Also much love to the fans that were moshing like crazy during Blood Eagle, to then collective cry their eyes out and scream all the ooh's and the aah's along of Lune when they were played back to back as an encore when I saw them.
I've done vox courses with that singer and even tho their not my thing I do give it to him. He has lifetimes of experience and great advice that was genuinely applicable he did seem like a kool dude.. he genuinely cared if someone could benefit from his efforts.

Periphery have been Habitual Line Steppers for well over a decade now. One of my all time favorite bands. I think Justin would really enjoy P2. Also, as many have already stated, Reptile from their last album Hail Stan is an absolute masterpiece. If you've been sleeping on Periphery, wake up immediately.

I like that you read the comments before viewing, you get a good idea for what's ahead and good insight as to why the fans like the music. Whether people today like to admit it or not, Periphery has been a major component in the prog metal scene ever since they started.
Plz go back and spend time in Periphery IV. They have been great all along but really put it all together there. Deceptive time things within 4/4. Drummer Matt Halpern facilitates. You can't pull that shit off w/o a world class drummer. Spencer Sotelo melodic screamo higher than a lot of guys can sing at all, and breadth of style. Production is stellar. Guitar tones and riffs and solos fantastic. But the songwriting is deep. It's not just chops. Whole is more than the sum of the parts. I had IV on repeat for months and months. Just getting into V. My expectations are so high it will be awhile before I can hear it for what it is. This band is up there w anything in rock. Any genre. I'm old enough to have seen Cream in the 60s and Mahavishnu Inner Mounting Flame tour. These guys are the real deal...

When my now 30 year old son got me listening to what his friends called Screamo back around the time this band was formed, I remember listening to A Day To Remember, Bullet For Pretty Boy, and some others that put out music similar to this. Then, it just seemed to die out in a few short years. Now, it appears the Phoenix has risen from the ashes and so Periphery appears to be leading it back. Thanks for the video Justin! Without you calling attention to this music I would have missed out on it.
This genre has never been my thing but I’ve found people are doing so many interesting things with it. You never know what’s going to happen. And of course I love Justin’s reactions and comments. This show is my daily smile. Love ya Justin!

I've been told to listen to this band for a few years now and just never really gave them a chance until recently. Been watching interviews with Rick Beato and Misha Mansoor and just loving understanding how these guys play guitar. Gonna have to check out Animals As Leaders too Justin, Tosin Abasi is genuinely some sort of wizard of the Djent genre.
I think it's fun to watch your ass explore so many other bands and usually we are thinking the same thing even when you don't say it. But most of all I love that you always stay respectful and never bash anyone. Even when it's not your thing.
Yeah, Periphery is always a musical journey. In one song you can be bludgeoned half to death and two seconds later you are fighting back tears from some beautiful melody with the most creative harmonies. Anyway, you need to check out 12 Foot Ninja if you aren't familiar with them.

You should check out the band Wolves at the Gate. Their clean vocalist has an amazing, powerful voice, and their unclean vocalist is a BEAST. They're dynamic is really interesting. Try the song "Silent Anthem"
Dude, Justin, I am not a a musician, and a I know a lot of musicians have perfect pitch, but My God, you can dissect harmonic pitches and tunings. That's next level. I've dealt with multitone signals for test purposes and when there are multi tones, it's very hard for the, normal, brain to dissect the tonal components. Very impressive!
Saw them live with my bro at the Tabernacle in Atlanta with Dillinger Escape Plan years ago. They were fantastic live (so was DEP) We met the singer while he was working the merch. Great down to earth guy.
The harmonics in the beginning are played by fretting the first fret of the lowest string and then leaving the next string open, then using your pinky to hit harmonica on the fourth fret near the fret wire. They do a similar trick in their song “Blood Eagle”.
While you are correct, the harmonic they are playing is implying the chord that Justin played. They also use that exact chord in a later spin on that main riff
Justin! This band has been one of my favorite and mainstay bands for the last 10 plus years. You need to check out Racecar from their first album, Scarlett from their second. The event from Juggernaut Alpha, which they used the theme of in this song during the chorus... Man I could go on forever but you get the deal. This band basically has no bad song

The Dillinger Escape Plan has the best jazz breakdowns in hardcore. Absolute chaos then amazing jazz fills. Absolutely awesome.
And DEP weren't stuck in a grid either, which kept the Human element in their music also.

You should check out the band Wolves at the Gate. Their clean vocalist has an amazing, powerful voice, and their unclean vocalist is a BEAST. They're dynamic is really interesting. Try the song "Silent Anthem"
Drummer Matt Halpern is a friggin' BEAST, and was my entrée (🙄) into Periphery's music. Obviously, he's in good company! 🙏

Dude, Justin, I am not a a musician, and a I know a lot of musicians have perfect pitch, but My God, you can dissect harmonic pitches and tunings. That's next level. I've dealt with multitone signals for test purposes and when there are multi tones, it's very hard for the, normal, brain to dissect the tonal components. Very impressive!

The harmonics in the beginning are played by fretting the first fret of the lowest string and then leaving the next string open, then using your pinky to hit harmonica on the fourth fret near the fret wire. They do a similar trick in their song “Blood Eagle”.
While you are correct, the harmonic they are playing is implying the chord that Justin played. They also use that exact chord in a later spin on that main riff

Justin! This band has been one of my favorite and mainstay bands for the last 10 plus years. You need to check out Racecar from their first album, Scarlett from their second. The event from Juggernaut Alpha, which they used the theme of in this song during the chorus... Man I could go on forever but you get the deal. This band basically has no bad song
