My grandmother and Grandfather were from The Roe Valley and Donegal ( don’t recall where in Donegal my grandmother was from. I learned a lot of traditional Irish songs from her as a kid. She’s was an amazing historian, singer and story teller. A real Seanchaí she was. Her voice was sweet and bright, with that lovely Donegal accent. She passed away while I was deployed to Afghanistan. The last time she sang to me, she sang me Men of Erin and her rendition of the humours of whiskey. She would have loved all of your music! Between singing to my wife and I, she told us the story of how our O’Cathaín ancestors were famous warriors/soldiers. How we’re rumored to be descended from “Niall of the 9 hostages” the ancient high King of Ireland. (Which did turn out to be true as my father and myself were found to carry the genetic marker attributed to Niall.) She offered my wife some comforting words and then told my wife, “ it’ll do ya no good to worry and fret love. Sure it’s in his blood to go off to war and fight. His granda was the same. Make sure he knows how much you love him and He’ll come back to us.” She then told my wife and I that my grandfather and our Ancestors would watch over me. She had my wife and I hold hands and she tied them together with a green silk ribbon and said a prayer for us. Then she cut the ribbon in two and gave us each a half. It was to remind us of our bond and love and would always ensure we’d find our way back to each other. That was the last time I saw my grandmother. So whenever I hear the songs she sang, I always smile. Your voice and music is absolutely incredible and really hits home. So thank you Colm, keep kicking ass, writing music and covering some absolutely legendary tunes! Slaínte my friend!

Lyrics to 'Now Colly':
There he is, the wee buck, found a spot o’ good luck,

Like you’re holdin’ that chin up,
Seems like someone ought to take you down a peg
And who the hell j’a think y’are, y’little ginger numpty
Singing like a little gobshín online
Says ‘little bleedin’ whopper Johnny internet hard man’
Sending mean comments off his granny’s wifi
“Are ya livin’ your dream now, Colly?”
“Enjoy it now while you’re young there, lad”
Tell me, how’s the auld boy, did you make him proud, boy?
Little ceoltoir on his bike now, lad
Do ye’ still play guitar? Come on out and grab a jar, When’s the date you’re leaving now?
Hon’ before you’re off, one more night on the sauce
’til you’re slurring half the lyrics to Spancil Hill
I awoke in California, bleedin’ hangin’ off me t*ts
And me head is still in bits, 28 and still a little git
“Are ya livin’ your best life, Colly?”
“Enjoy it now while you’re young there, lad”
“Sure you’ll be flyin’ in no time, young man”
There y’are singer man, cocky little ginger man
Think you’re getting too big for your wee boots, man
Gimmick’s gonna wear off when they all see
All y’do is sing down low
Heard you’re moving to the valley, boy, y’wannabe Cali boy
Keep your wits about ye’ or you’ll find your own finale
Now you think you’ve gone and made something of yourself,
Well all that glitters isn’t gold
Well I couldn’t give a toss about some diamonds on your wrist
Or your wan with fake t*ts or any of this
I’d be happy out to settle down and have a hape’ o’ kids
And be an auld boy of me own
You’re bleedin’ livin’ your dream, now are ya?
You think you’re some bleedin’ big shot star, yeah?
Ya little weapons grade twat you are, ya!
