I once had a keyboard (not from a laptop, but anyhow), which I accidentally spilled with coke. Evidently, after a few days, it was all crunchy and not working just like the one on your video. Being just a kid back then, I decided a good wash would fix everything, so I took a bucket filled with soapy water and sunk the keyboard in there for a while, I rinsed it on the sink, then let it dry completely for a day or so. To my surprise (and pride), I plugged it back into the computer and it worked like a charm. Today I know I did it wrong, I should have taken it apart and at least save the board before doing anything, but, as a prove of concept, the idea of my 16-year-old-self still holds. You could fully remove the top cover and all components, clean it up fully and then wash it with soapy water, rinse it, then let it dry completely. The keyboard is already damaged, so, if it doesn't work, all you lost is a little time.
Love the long channel. I enjoy these repairs videos. Especially since I'm one who does the same kind of repairs as a side job. Seeing how you do certain things. Help give me ideas on how to improve my ways of doing repairs.
One of my past jobs, I used to refurb Macbook's including doing battery replacements. Don't be afraid to use a lot more IPA to breakdown the adhesive on the original battery (I used to pre-soak it) and using a larger plastic wedge is better to get leverage on it and will significantly reduce the dangerous possibility of piecing the battery with your removal tool! Having TechTools Pro installed on a bootable USB flash, NVMe Stick or USDB SSD/HDD (with compatible macOS version) saves alot of time when testing them ;-) With the Macbook Air that had corrosion, test the board out of the housing (nothing connected - inc. battery) to see if you get fan spin and also see what current draw you get with a USB power monitor.
Yeah Apple is the worst. I will give it to them, that they have created a lot of things that have revolutionized the industry, but I just can't stand their business practice or how little freedom they give you as a user. I feel like on Windows PCs it's super straight forward, but on Mac I have to jump through 50 hoops to get stuff working the way I want it to work
@@CecilTheDarkKnight234 Yea, had a Macbook from late 2008 and you could just pop the battery cover off and have immediate access to the battery and hard drive. Miss those days.

For the Locked mac... I mean it officially is bricked but is there not a way to like wipe it and install hackintosh or even windows or linux on it so it could still be used but just not as a "macbook" ?
The best technique I’ve found for removing MBP batteries is to use dental floss. It’s easy to wiggle in, and releases the glue very easily without using IPA, which will absolutely destroy the trackpad. I learned it from another UA-camr with a really small subscriber base.
Activation Lock can be removed with some meddling with the ROM chip on the board, for the T2 Macbooks its slightly harder but it is possible - the laptop isn't just parts!!!
Hi the one that’s ID Locked you can unsolder a resistor and will stop the ID lock iv seen it on a UA-cam video or maybe swap the chip that holds the info to the ID ?
regarding the sticky keyboard. Could you just remove the screen and logic board(s) so that only the keyboard and case were left, then slosh it around is some hot water for a few minutes to remove the sugar / syrup and then rinse it in 99% alcohol so it displaces residual water and evaporates and dries out quickly.
i had replaced my old iphone5 battery in 2013 i was told 'it may fall out if u dont use the same tape, but years later and the basic adhesive tape was still holding in the battery
30:37 Apple doesnt care about repair because they dont want people to be doing anything to their products unless it involves payng Apple more. Their anti consumering is built into very fabric of their ecosystem and business practices and it is absolutely disgusting things like EU having to force them to do things that would benefit the consumer are needed for any change to happen.
I think they glue down the battery as a way to 'add' flex-strength to the laptop - to give it that 'high quality feeling' - and so you have to trash it - instead of replace the battery.
I have this exact macbook pro which has 835 cycles and it's dying, but I'm just gonna sell it I think and get a new machine, battery on this thing is so difficult
Really is a bugger that apple's so anti repair, but ill give the same argument for the repairability as for IO (a particularly strong case for the macbook pro): most pro users don't care about it being razor thin, or light as a feather. That's the air's purpose. People buying the pro want it to be able to do everything they need, including plugging into external devices, and being able to be used until the thing's within an inch of its life.
I love these videos. But I have to say... all the time it took to "shortcut" is about the same time it would've taken to remove the mainboard. Don't know how much of that "effort" was cut out of the video, but probably best to avoid shortcuts
1st its true Apple does not want you trying to repair their hardware they rather prefer that you either go to their repair service or just buy a new one, not to mention their repair policy which makes most problems even the easy ones to fix "unfixable" and after you buy a new piece and leave the broken one with them they will fix and sell it again. 2nd it's possible to remove the AppleID I cant tell you how but a quick internet search will teach you how to do it
Apple ID? Is it perhaps like inserting a password in the BIOS _(I ask because I know just enough of Apple products to stay the hell away from them and little more)?_ If so, whoever bought that laptop first, before selling it to you, SHOULD have asked about it from the seller. Shoddy trafficking, theirs.
I think most most users buy Apple because of the software or the design. The laptops are not that bad. Just overpriced and difficult to fix. And of course the lack of usb ports is super annoying. The good thing about apple products is the high resell prices on ebay if want to get rid of your old laptop.
Taking out those batteries is actually a 10 minutes job. Take an old credit card. Insert it under the battery. Drip IPA on the card so it flows under the battery. The glue is now soft and you just cut it with the card. Placing the battery is much harder. I usually stick the new battery to my clothes to get the adhesive "dirty". Remember to fully charge the new battery *and then leave it under charge for two more hours*. Use the computer on battery power until is fully discharged, then connect the charger and do a full charge again.
if you get rid of an apple device or sell it or whatever REMOVE IT FROM YOUR ACCOUNT. most people i dont think they even know that a device is still attached to an account.
The fact that you cannot repair an Apple product and then start it up without the original users credentials is working exactly how they designed it. They want the user to have to BUY a new one rather than have it repaired. They know exactly what they are doing.
