The Cold Steel Espada in the large size currently consists of two models, one being more affordable (the G10 version) and another one with a more polished aesthetic and boasting an S35VN blade steel. Which one is right for you? This video gets down in the nitty-gritties of the two.

I just ordered the large g-10. I think it will be the better option for practical use. I might pick up the xl s35vn to have as a show piece. Thanks for the great video!

Great knives, thanks for the helpful info. Cold Steel Espada in G10 seems like a solid option.

You have both. Disassemble, swap blades, and reassemble. I think that would make an awesome hybrid. Good video. Thanks. BTW, I own two XLs in G10, one stonewashed and the other black DLC coated. I also own the large in s35vn. I actually EDC my stonewashed XL because it carries so well, and I keep a Victorinox Pioneer in my other pocket for smaller tasks. Thanks again for comparing the two large espadas. Happiest Of Holidays!

The G10 aus10a steel stonewash is a fantastic Espada XL or L ,
I love mine and the S35VN versions luv them to but don't really care to carry them and have concerns of the aluminum getting scratched up but that probably going to change over the Holidays because I may want to show them off a bit. 📸🎯⚖️✨⚖️🎯📸

I have the large g10 Espada with cts-xhp. One of the best knives I've ever owned. The large model is the best in my opinion. I also have the medium in cts-xhp.
I prefer the g10 because I'm lefthanded. I also don't like the polished aluminum it just never looks clean.

I hear ya, polishing metal so much means it'll gleefully pick up all of your scratches and smudges, free of charge!

G10 is what the handle of the Espada is made from. The steel in the blade, is AUS10a. Which is a decent steel.

I wonder why I never hear about the dovetailed scales on the polished version? That is a structural improvement and a bit of class that most custom knives don't attempt, much less a production company! I guess that people are so used to NOT seeing this bit that when one arrives, it is invisible to most.
Also must comment that the perfect center of balance is exactly the forward finger choil.
One last note on steel quality; this knife is a weapon. The odds that you will ever need it in a self-defense situation is, for all intents and purposes, zero! Watch the movie(s) with the Espada xl, 'Savage Dog'. It is used twice against another person, to bloody effect! There was absolutely nothing cut, chopped, pierced... that would dull the blade in the least. None of us will ever be in that position to use the martial knife anyway, even if we love it and edc it! It never is removed from the pocket in public, period. (unless that zero percent thing happens)
And, as I would never dishonor the weapon by engaging/dulling it in mundane tasks. The batoning dramas are for entertainment only. No one actually ever 'needs' to depend on a pocketknife to baton! It's all fantasy!
Mine could have a brass blade, and the edge would probably last for decades of non-fantasy use! At least as long as my cts-xhp or S35VN!
Oh, I carry the G-10 version, mostly, considering collector values...
    Thanks for the video,
    Happy New Year
    Peace

    Hey Mannix,
Does the S35VN fill the hand significantly better? When I hold the G10 in a saber grip it feels like it’s going to slip out.

      @MannixKnives  Рік тому +1

Good question, actually the S35VN Espada's handle does in fact "feel" thicker to me as well, which might be due to the beveling on it (the G10 scales on it seem to jut out a bit). The pure G10 version overall is more squared off and slimmer, though it has better side-traction. I think it's just up to preference in terms of grip.

The Dutch bushcraft boys abused the hell out of the S35 7.5" version of this knife and could not break it. I would definitely take the S35 version over the G-10 AUS10. You get what you pay for !

I like my Espada with G10 .I have recon 1 in S35VN from my experiments I sharpen test knives and swords from my view point s35vn wont kick 10A ass I Do not like the look of stone wash it is a cheaper faster way to finish a blade ( tumbler) a lot depends on heat treat Cold Steel does a good job on both. but that is my experience .

AUS-10a (labeled on the blade) is not the same as a G-10 (VG-10). I think this is a typo as G-10 scales make sense.
The S35vn blade has G-10 scales (and aluminum bolsters) as well as the AUS-10a variant.
Anywho, to compare "S-35vn vs G-10" sounds incredibly ignorant.

That G10 looks a bit 'tackier' (camera??) than my old G10 in CTS XHP alloy, like quite a bit less attractive. I chose it over the S35 as it was waaay thinner and less obtrusive as an edc. Now I know i'll never be able to replace it with that AUS crap......ugh.

Ever since CS went from the CTS-XHP to the S35VN on their G10 knives, the texture on the scales has been dropped down a few levels of aggression/roughness. Basically they're a little softer now. I also miss the older textures.

    “Tactical” use?
If one needs to depend on a knife (any knife) for “tactical” applications things have gone horribly bad and the person involved has failed miserably on many levels.
Revolvers are for “tactical” use, not knives! Preferably revolvers whose caliber starts with the number 4.
