The Rangler's crier was most likely a child, early in development which would warrant the child voice actor. However, most likely due to internal reasons (like morals) they changed the character into an adult. They may have also been trying to avoid censorship laws thar may be brought into question if the character was a child.
The virgin New Vegas: using children for the promotion of prostitution is unethical and immoral. The chad Van Buren: sure you can have sex with and impregnate that underage ghoul, why not.
One of the voice castors responded on Twitter to questions regarding the crier. He said that the casting choice was most likely a simple mistake caused by the rushed nature of New Vegas’ development. This is consistent with other errors, such as how many other characters randomly switch voice actors mid dialogue, or how there’s a Khan with a Kiwi accent
@@Lance-The-BoS-Lancer 1) they literally weren’t allowed anymore time due to having to release in the 2010 holiday season to maximize profits. And 2) the game only got one bad review regarding stability issues, bringing the score down to 84%. Any publisher with any decency would say “hey, it’s only 1%, you still get the bonus,” but we’re talking about Bethesda, the most petty company in the business. Bethesda was also uncooperative when it came to helping Obsidian with their broken ass engine, Obsidian had to hire modders to fix the game.

"The Streets of Laredo" as sung by Marty Robbins is on of my favorite songs ever. Although I knew about "Home On the Wastes", "The Streets of New Reno" is an amazing surprise.
The song that plays at the Abandoned Highwayman location is Gold Slouch, the theme for Redding in Fallout 2. Gold Slouch is also a nod to the popular theme song for Flagg from the miniseries The Stand.
I like how you have a 5% chance of collecting star caps when you drink regular bottles of sunset sasparilla. It's the only way I've ever collected 50 caps. Also related, whenever you craft a bottle of sunset sas from scratch, this same effect applies, thus there are potentially unlimited star caps in the game.
I feel like it would be a really cool bit of lore if they had made it that easy Pete was one of the original vault dwellers from vault 34 but didn’t go to Nellis with the boomers. It would be a cool add on to his explosives knowledge. It would also still leave room in the timeline for his working as a miner.
Something else I find really neat about the Lonesome Drifter’s New Reno song: it is actually a variant on the very old British folk song “The Unfortunate Rake” aka “The Unfortunate Lad.” The song dates back at least to the 19th century but could originate as far back as the mid-18th century or earlier. It is very fitting to use new lyrics on this tune as most people who sing it will change the lyrics to be about whatever subject is relevant to them, be it a soldier, sailor, farmer, or even a cowboy in the Lonesome Drifter’s case! Brendan Gleason also sings a really neat rendition of “The Unfortunate Rake” in the film The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. It’s so cool that a tune with such rich history made its way into New Vegas as a hidden gem! Really interesting to imagine this folk song surviving the apocalypse and still being passed down 400+ years after its creation. Great video as always; crazy how there is always more to uncover about this amazing game!
@@derekmensch3601 Doesn't make up for it. It's very personal to him, which is why he kept it instead of swapping out for a bolt action like the other snipers.
That Streets of New Reno track sounds like an adaptation of the Marty Robbins song Streets of Laredo. Its really cool they were giving Robbins some of the attention he deserves.

@@fevreject6319 always thought the voice were too young. I thought it is actually ranged between 14 - 16 years old, the crier. Make sense in the world of New vegas, and if you revive cut content of freeside child exploitation become much more obvious (the kid who chase the rats, didnt do it just because he is hungry. Its actually forced by that low quality meat selling vendor, near freeside north gate / follower's fort). But i never thought the wrangler crier is voiced by an actual child, which, creep me out a bit.
My favorite thing about New Vegas was the time I told AlChestBreach to shoot the Boulder City memorial, and that he had never seen that little interaction before
Hey Mantis, I remember the stream where you talked about this stuff. The smiley face was something I actually did not know. But that is a very interesting little detail. I believe I was the one that told you about the voice actress being only 13 at the time (or maybe she was even 12 depending which day her birthday was and when the lines were recorded, because keep in mind this game had 18 months of development time so the recordings could have happened any time along that road of development). I brought up some little-known facts in the video I uploaded yesterday if you care to check it out. One new thing I even discovered myself during that playthrough is that you can kite the Bighorners into attacking the Vipers at Bonnie Springs, and that way even at level 1 you can clear that area out and get the loot with the Bighorners doing all the work for you. And of course the little known-fact that its possible to get there at level 1 in the first place, but I covered that a long time ago.
What still freaks me out to this day, I downloaded the soundtrack onto a cheap MP3 player a couple years ago while on a camping trip, I was walking down the street of Portland Maine, and I hear a street performer singing the exact same song I had listen to like 20 minutes before. The new Reno one.
If you crank up your movement speed enough you can run into areas where there are crucified NPCs and watch them jump onto the crosses. The crosses are more or less coded as chairs.
This is one of the few times that I both “put a like on a video of I didn’t know something” AND found out stuff I didn’t know. The smiley being the biggest one, I played NV exclusively for YEARS on the 360 and never noticed that detail..
Another fun fact about New Vegas is that the Legion hit squads & or Malcolm Holmes can span virtually anyway. I once fixed the Helios 1 Power Plant & when I turned around both approached me on 2 separate playthroughs lol. Also theres no source to confirm this but I think that chef Phillipe at the White Glove Society might be loosely based on Gordon Ramsay, regarding all his cursing & shouting. "The meat is still fucking raw, & now the entree walked out of the pantry" "Good job you plonker" lol
I was surprised to learn that there are companion dialogue lines where they comment on the final battle, because I only played the House Always Wins ending, but you can't bring a companion with you when you trigger the endgame quest for Mr House...
4:42 It's apparently a case of the wrong person getting the wrong script. There's around 68,000 lines in the game and apparently something similar happened with the character of General Oliver who was meant to be voiced by a celebrity but instead had their lines read by one of generic NPC actors. If I'm a little off or paraphrasing it wrong I heard this from a live stream of New Vegas by some of the original Ovsidian devs and in a post by one of the devs on the battle of Hoover Dam.
Little known fact about Mantis - mantis was born Gregory David TKsmantis in a small rural town in Pennsylvania to a nice loving mother and father. His father David was a computer programmer for the local church and his mother Patricia worked as a elementary school teacher. Mantis eventually grew fond of the fallout series but before this he was infatuated with the farm animals such as cows 🐮 all around him as this was rural PA. Mantis is loved by so many people so don’t ever think your not !
One little fact about the King (and his "bro" Pacer). Or more precisely his origin - Elvis Presley. Not long ago I've start reading his biography and was surprised to find that he had twin brother named Aaron. Sadly, he passed away shortly after the his birth. Who knows, what fate awaited the Presley brothers, if Aaron survived?
The crier one (if you look at it as an ingame thing) is great . It perfectly displays the depravity of humanity after the apocalypse and the degradation of morals in freeside.
Here’s a fun secret, go to the gun runners and have any gun that the vendor also has. We’ll use the “lever action shotgun” as an example. Equip the shotgun and shoot it until it’s down to about 10% condition. Now sell that gun to the vendor, then go into his inventory and buy back that same gun. You’ll notice that you have a mint condition version of the gun! It’s a great way method for buying anything you want and still getting back every cap, plus all of the vendors. Just make sure that once you are done, you actually buy back the low condition version, if you wish to do it in the future. Otherwise you’ll have to re-ruin the gun to do it properly. The lower the condition, the more caps you’ll make back every time you buy and sell the gun.
One of my favorite songs in New vegas is one that could have been on the list. "Begin Again" The song was created by Obsidian Entertainment sound designer Justin Bell (music and text setting), creative lead Chris Avellone (lyrics), audio producer Mikey Dowling (lyrics), and was sung by art intern Stephanie Dowling.

10:51 - Let's see... For me, I didn't know that there are little random events that can take place on the Strip. I was always so focused on going to specific locations that when I noticed something was different years later I was stunned. So far the only ones I know about are 1) The NCR Monorail Station where it's normally fairly featureless, but sometimes a pair of NCR soldiers will be bickering about having to deal with someone having plastered anti-NCR graffiti on the wall. Afterward, the graffiti will be covered with white paint. And the one that made me realize other things could happen 2) There's an event where three drunken female NCR soldiers have stripped down to their underwear dancing in the Ultra Lux fountain surrounded by Securitrons trying to get them to leave before an NCR MP arrives to take them away. (Not all the dialogue is in the vid) - ua-cam.com/video/zWQ8LVyr6aw/v-deo.html I also didn't know that it was possible to not have Dean Domino try to kill you in Dead Money until like a month ago, so I actually found out about and experienced the ending where you and Father Elija bomb New Vegas *WAY* before I ever saw the "good" ending, much less about Dean not killing you. (It's so stupid that it's tied to a speech check that screws you over if you *succeed* when it in no way indicates that you're overtly threatening him. Not to mention the fact that it's possible to talk down other characters like Christine and Dog/God even if you were a dick to them initially). Speaking of Dean and New Vegas, although the line "Just because I work in entertainment doesn't mean I'm a moron" is played regardless of the player's intelligence level, if you have a low intelligence character and pick the dumb dialogue the dumb line will have extra emphasis on the word "I'm." - ua-cam.com/video/8XllttBJi98/v-deo.html The voice actor for Dean Domino, Barry Dennen, passed and had previously voiced other video game characters such as Fatman in Metal Gear Solid 2, and various characters in Dragon Age: Origins, Darksiders II, Grim Fandango, and others. I had never seen this either, and only just found out about it when I tried to find footage of the strip encounters: ua-cam.com/video/R6FAAPTskGc/v-deo.html And like Paul of Mitten Squad, I didn't know that if you show up to one of the casinos without any weapons, you'll get a speech choice reflecting that when asked to disarm. Also, if you directly kill or lead the love interest of Jack from the Boomer's territory to her death, the character will immediately run to the workshop, be found on the bed and will refuse to speak with you. Presumably heartbroken and depressed by what transpired. Edit: Oh! Another thing that I found hilarious; I always found Honest Hearts to be the weakest DLC by far, especially when it comes to story, and there's an ending that encapsulated that notion perfectly for me: If I recall correctly, all you have to do is attack one of the members of the Dead Horses or Sorrows and you'll get the objective to find the map and leave. Normally, as a player, I would kill other people, but if you leave all the major NPCs (Waking Cloud, Daniel, The Burned Man, and Follows Chalk) alive, then the ending will only say that "your involvement tipped the fragile balance of power" talk about the Happy Trails Caravan, and then immediately end with absolutely no mention of any of the tribes or characters.
I saw another random event where an NCR soldier chases a Bramin down the strip (it's in the same section as the Graffiti and girls in the fountain, the Bramin appears by the gate leading to the Lucky 38 section and gets chased to the opposite gate) Also, it looks like Securitrons discover the Graffiti first and try to get rid of it by using their Gatling Lasers to try and blast it off. Presumably, when you leave and come back, that's when the NCR troopers arrive. But maybe it only triggers after a day or 3. I also didn't know that there was a hole in the desert outside Nipton where all the scorpions are that leads to a cave where you can find a Radscorpion Queen because there was never a map marker for the entrance.
Another random easter egg that nobody cares about: in the script that adds ammo to your inventory when you buy boxes of surplus ammo, the name of the variable for the ammo's presence is set to "killme"

I like how I watched a WIRED video on an FBI Agent breaking down the body language of gangsters and once they got to the inspiration to Benny (which I didn't know that at the time) I commented, "Looks like he's about to steal my platinum chip."
I started my day with your critique of what went down with Frontier. That was fascinating. Then this one popped up. Fascinating in a different way. Most of this I did not know, beyond knowing some of the actors. As far as House being misunderstood, as much as I love Rene Auberjonois, perhaps a mid-Atlantic accent would have made a better connection. Even Peters used it in his portrayal of Hughs in American Horror Story.

it's like black jack but with powers and highest point of cards is 26
Basicaly
You put 3 cards on table and than you are putting more cards on them
Once you put 2. card on it its important if the number of the card is higer or lower than previous
If lower than you can put only cards with lower number that previous on that pile of cards
And the same thing if the 2. Card have bigger value than 1. Cars, than you can use only cards with bigger number than the previous
Than its basicaly a special black jack
Ah, the feeling of remembering Fallout: New Vegas facts. Nostalgic. What a way to start off the year.
Thanks, Mantis.

She could just be a teen
One of the voice castors responded on Twitter to questions regarding the crier. He said that the casting choice was most likely a simple mistake caused by the rushed nature of New Vegas’ development. This is consistent with other errors, such as how many other characters randomly switch voice actors mid dialogue, or how there’s a Khan with a Kiwi accent
@@formerctgovernordannelmall1452 There was a Khan with a Kiwi accent? Which one?

1) they literally weren’t allowed anymore time due to having to release in the 2010 holiday season to maximize profits.
@@Lance-The-BoS-Lancer imagine being proud that people got laid off.

One of my favorites that I only learned about this year: Two Step Goodbye + Khan Trick = Explosive Dirt!
Or at least as many as there are empty bottles, as you don’t get them back
I feel like it would be a really cool bit of lore if they had made it that easy Pete was one of the original vault dwellers from vault 34 but didn’t go to Nellis with the boomers. It would be a cool add on to his explosives knowledge. It would also still leave room in the timeline for his working as a miner.

I like the fact of "The streets of New Reno" being a testament to how good Marty Robins music is.

Yeah exactly like I love fallout new Vegas with all my heart but them dudes knew what they where doing
when they had her voice act the crier
She was 13, yeah.
What still freaks me out to this day, I downloaded the soundtrack onto a cheap MP3 player a couple years ago while on a camping trip, I was walking down the street of Portland Maine, and I hear a street performer singing the exact same song I had listen to like 20 minutes before. The new Reno one.
Other people have mentioned it's a rewritten song from Marty Robbins called "Streets of Laredo" which was based on an even older song.

I never knew that the bright brotherhood would show up in the final battle.
They show up after, in the ending slides.
There are actually ambient tracks from Fallout 1/2 peppered in throughout unmodded New Vegas
I recently found out that Ulysses follows you around in Lonesome Road.

3:37 Jason Marsden never voiced the cat on Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. Salem the cat was voiced by Nick Bakay.

(Not all the dialogue is in the vid) - ua-cam.com/video/zWQ8LVyr6aw/v-deo.html
I also didn't know that it was possible to not have Dean Domino try to kill you in Dead Money until like a month ago, so I actually found out about and experienced the ending where you and Father Elija bomb New Vegas *WAY* before I ever saw the "good" ending, much less about Dean not killing you. (It's so stupid that it's tied to a speech check that screws you over if you *succeed* when it in no way indicates that you're overtly threatening him. Not to mention the fact that it's possible to talk down other characters like Christine and Dog/God even if you were a dick to them initially).
Speaking of Dean and New Vegas, although the line "Just because I work in entertainment doesn't mean I'm a moron" is played regardless of the player's intelligence level, if you have a low intelligence character and pick the dumb dialogue the dumb line will have extra emphasis on the word "I'm." - ua-cam.com/video/8XllttBJi98/v-deo.html
The voice actor for Dean Domino, Barry Dennen, passed and had previously voiced other video game characters such as Fatman in Metal Gear Solid 2, and various characters in Dragon Age: Origins, Darksiders II, Grim Fandango, and others.
I had never seen this either, and only just found out about it when I tried to find footage of the strip encounters: ua-cam.com/video/R6FAAPTskGc/v-deo.html
And like Paul of Mitten Squad, I didn't know that if you show up to one of the casinos without any weapons, you'll get a speech choice reflecting that when asked to disarm.
I saw another random event where an NCR soldier chases a Bramin down the strip (it's in the same section as the Graffiti and girls in the fountain, the Bramin appears by the gate leading to the Lucky 38 section and gets chased to the opposite gate)
Also, it looks like Securitrons discover the Graffiti first and try to get rid of it by using their Gatling Lasers to try and blast it off.
I didn't see this anywhere but new Reno is based off the song streets of Laredo by Marty Robbins
