Ken being shocked at how bad the housing market has gotten is so funny to me. That's everyone's reaction once they actually see the prices. I was looking for a house over the past few months and it was such a demoralizing experience. When I told people I was looking, a lot of them sympathized because they had heard on the news how expensive housing has gotten. But they all have the exact same reaction Ken had when they actually see the asking and sold prices. It's genuinely so much worse than the news even makes it out to be, it's almost unbelievable.
I mean yeah it does suck but just keep looking and keep your hopes up because something will come along. It took me over a year to find the house I'm in now and it's not even 10 miles from my last house but it's so much better of an area, working with 5 acres and it cost 200k and thats including the house. This episode is actually the most wholesome on Hotel Hell. The owners genuinely care about the hotel, and try their best. They lost a lot of money because of health issues and ended up moving into a tiny suite in the hotel. Suki works in the kitchen because they didn’t have enough money to pay for a chef, so she took over. Gordon ends up getting them a place to stay by the end of the episode, and the hotel is still open to this day. If there’s anyone that deserved help on the show, it was these folks.
Well because it's not their fault usually when problems happen, but everyone always bitch at them. I always make sure to say if I'm being mean and mad that I know it's not their fault, I'm just mad at the situation. Too many people take it out on the waitstaff when they don't control what's going on in the kitchen lol. As a chef myself that started in shitty restaurants, I know the BS that goes on back there😂working in a kitchen is extremely stressful and you gotta be on point with your timing or there's going to be problems with everything. For summary the Husband got into an accident, it was a car crash and didn't come back for 5 months, that's why he has that cane. They sold their house so they could keep the restaurant open. And at the end Gordon gave them a new home with 6 months rent I think it was. I don't know. They are still open today and are doing good.
Mississippi is the poorest state in the country lol the average yearly income is less than $50,000. The poverty rate is like 20%. So that’s pretty bad for the area 😅
This lady is the first and only person on Gordon’s show that doesn’t deserve to be yelled at. You can tell she genuinely wants to know what’s wrong, and just doesn’t understand the restaurant business. She really is trying her best, and that’s what makes it so sad. Honestly, that reaction to the current US housing market cracked me up! It depends on where you live. I’m in Kentucky and have bought 4 houses under $20k in the last 4 years. Livable houses too not run down dumps that are condemned. Homes are out there across the country that are affordable but once you start looking towards the cities it’s insane the house prices are 5x more than everywhere else.

As a fellow Mississippian, every restaurant is like that. They open and they're fantastic, then months go by and they gradually stop caring I guess lol. Maybe not getting filthy, but they do stop caring about how the food tastes.
They probably lose the good staff because the management sucks. Then the costs start getting to them, so the management sacrifices of things that are necessary while continuing to throwing away money on stupid crap As a wise man once said "the reason most restaurants fails is because the head chef is cutting lettuce"
I just watched this episode 2 days ago and it’s actually a really sad story. The husband was in a car accident that shattered his feet and broke his back. His wife had to quit her job to work and live in the hotel.
when Dane was talking about the roach crawling out of his sandwich, it reminded me of an incident that happened when i was a child in the 60’s. while on vacation, my family stopped at a restaurant in Louisiana and my mom found a dead roach in her food. that was the first time i had ever seen a roach. i grew up in Indianapolis and never saw roaches in my house or in anyone’s house we knew. they were considered to be a sign of filth if you had roaches. during college i worked in a hotel that was roach infested. they were the German Cockroaches kind. when i moved to Atlanta, one day i saw a giant roach, which is what probably Dane had, crawl across the floor. it freaked me out. i called the manager and told her about “the roach that was so big, you could put a saddle on and ride it.” she said, “oh, that’s just a tree roach. they’re everywhere down here.” being a transplanted northern trying to deal with the culture shock i was experiencing, i gradually got used to them. people would tell me the same thing, “everyone has roaches even the governor’s mansion.” fast forward to the early 90’s. i was a teacher and while working in my room, getting it ready for the beginning of the school year, i heard a teacher scream. i ran into her room to find out what was wrong. she told me that a big roach crawled across the floor. when i saw it i said, “oh,that is just a tree roach” and then i stepped on it. she had just moved from New York only a few weeks earlier. then i smiled and said “you’ll get used to them.”
When you seriously get excited to hear Ken say happy birthday on your birthday! Fingers crossed that he’s putting out a video tomorrow for me to have that moment of satisfaction 🎉
Most of their debt comes from their medical bills as the male owner was in a severe car accident. They are so in debt that they’re living in the hotel.
Ohhh I love binging Gordon Ramsay's old shows no matter how many times I've watched it. There's just smthg so evergreen about him yelling at often-ignorant/lazy owners.
As a fellow Mississippian, I enjoyed this video so much. I go to Ole Miss but I’m in Starkville a ton since I have a lot of friends there. I can’t BELIEVE y’all dissed Bulldog Burger! Maybe the Tupelo one has roaches but the Starkville location I have never heard bad things about.
this episode was actually one of the few wholesome ones out there, i wish you could've reacted to the entire thing or at least in bits but i understand the time limit you have for each vid ;;
If possible, I’d recommend watching more of this episode. Pretty sure it’s widely considered the fan favorite episode and it actually gets to be pretty heartwarming :) *Spoiler warning* for the rest of the episode content (and be aware I might get a few details off since it’s been awhile so pls do watch the ep) but the husband used to be super on top of the hotel upkeep (I think he may have even said it was a dream job for him) until he got in a terrible car accident, ultimately leaving him having to rely on a cane once he recovered. On top of the medical bills, he wasn’t able to take care of the hotel while recovering and they didn’t want to lose it so I believe Sukie left the job she had and started trying to cook at the hotel in an effort to help there. Unfortunately the hotel rapidly fell into disrepair and the restaurant side of it wasn’t able to help much because Sukie didn’t have the training or experience for the job. They lost their home and had to start living in one of the rooms at the hotel (I think I recall the room they chose didn’t even have any windows) and it was clear their spirits were low. By the end of the episode, after the hotel and restaurant transformation as well as bringing in some trained chefs to handle the cooking, Gordon also rented an apartment for the couple to stay in

Originally from Mississippi, graduated from Mississippi State University this year. While living in Starkville, I worked at the Kroger (grocery store chain) in town and met the owners of this place. Sweet people, but definitely odd. Not sure they should be business owners, but hey, to each is own. Side note, kinda cool to watch people on YT from Mississippi that isn't an embarrassment to the state 😅
They were liv8ng in a small room in thw hotel after selling their home to keep the hotel open. Gorden bought them an apartment and paid their bills for a year till they can get back on their feet. The hotel is still open and doing good
Ken, your old house is worth a freakin' fortune now. That's where the US is now. Places people had good cost of living are now unaffordable for those same people. Not by a little either, some places are 100% higher in cost over the pandemic.
I love how this video gets everyone who lives in Mississippi together, and this is coming from a die hard Bulldog fan! (Aka MSU for people who don’t know)
As a chef Gordan knows it's not on the server they have to deal with so much criticism when they aren't the ones cooking. All the faults fall onto the head chef and owners.
I love Gordon Ramsay so much like if you're actually invested in your business and you're willing to put in the work he turns out to be so sweet and generous he really does care about people who put their all into it and it shows that he carries their stress too and I love it
This episode is the one where the daughters actually own the place, and the parents are trying to keep it going, while living inside the very same hotel. The daughters are somewhat spoiled, one cries all the time (with enough reason) and the other is just lazy and delusional. I would say it's worth watching more of this episode, one of the best and more human episodes in the show.
I think you're getting two episodes mixed up. There is another episode with the spoilt, crying children whose parents bought them a hotel. Everyone in this episode is great.
Maybe it's not the same everywhere, but the one time I worked in a restaurant, the food started out okay, but then time passed, and they opened up new locations, which meant they had to switch to prepackaged so that it was consistent at every location. And the guests ruined my favourite homemade mashed potatoes because they complained about the pepper and garlic! 😠 Perhaps this is just what happens when feedback starts rolling in, and owners start trying to please everyone until it pleases no one. The corporate chef quickly leaves after training period, and then the training erodes with all the turnover like a game of telephone...
Gordon came to the town beside my home town a few years ago for 25 Hours to Hell and Back. It was the one where he fixed up Old Ellicott City in MD, because it's just in such a bad state and floods every couple of years. It was super cool!
6:46 When I was a kid, I found a whole June bug in a Wendy’s cheeseburger. I took a bite and got close enough to it that I could see something in between the paddy and the top bun, so I lifted the top bun up to see what it was and there was a sprawled out a June bug smothered in ketchup sitting on the paddy. To this day, I will not eat any burger or sandwich, that I didn’t personally prep, without funny inspecting it.
I'm a real estate agent in upstate NY and hoooooooly shit is the market crazy! I just signed a purchase contract for a tiny little house in a small city and it's going for probably $100k more than it's worth. Makes me wonder if I'll ever be able to afford my own house! 😅
I feel like instead of just doing sushi how it's normally done she's trying to invent new sushi dishes so she'll have her own special thing but it's not working out
The same thing happens in my hometown with stores and restaurants coming in, it’s because they bring in people from other places to get it going and then leave it to the locals 😂 and apparently in our towns the locals don’t care that much 😂😂😂
If I remember correctly Gordon actually ended up paying for an apartment for them since they were living in a windowless room in the hotel, it's actually a very heartwarming episode
He meant he wasn't going to say the restaurant's name where Dane ended up getting the roach. He pulled up Google maps to look at where the house was. Geez, were you even paying attention?
I literally live in Starkville and the burger place Ken talked about actually ended up moving and completely changing. The place Gordon went still sucks and never actually got better but they recently changed owners so hopefully it’ll be back up to his standards.
This reminds me of the Polynesian place that just opened up here where I'm at. Amazing service, but everyone waits for at least an hour. Food wasn't even worth the wait! One lady put an order in at 2p for pickup at 6:30p and she was still waiting about 7:30p
This clip didn't really show much other than him eating the sushi and being lil mean. I had hoped they would show the end where Gordon saw how they were living and rented them an apartment.
How is a good question. I’m not alleging anything but I feel like the only way a palmetto bug (grew up in the south and that’s what we call the giant roaches) could get inside a sandwich was on purpose lol. If it was by accident… That place needs to be burned to the ground. Well it should be burned to the ground either way…
HEY! We have strawberry on sushi in my country and it is freaking DELICIOUS. It makes the sushi so fresh, it is awesome (tbh, the fish is not tuna but salmon)
I went to State for my MA and my department always rented out their hotel ballroom (and the dining room from the beginning of the video) for functions. They were a really great couple. Doing much better now.
What people don't understand about the south, why everyone seems to be going slow and no real hurry... is because everything is a struggle. Life, period, is a struggle down there. The bugs, the mold, the weather, the moisture, just everything is struggling for its own foot hold is this desperate situation. It's hard to explain until you actually experience... it's no joke though, in the places where nature and life is thriving, it's also where the fieriest competition is.... and it will wear you down.

God help Gordon if him comes to my home town 😱😱
The food literally looks like its been tazed and dragged from the canal 😄
Dear God!
@@IBDjenn88 and thats just the Local KFC 😄
@@thegreathoffman16 I actually just ordered KFC 😂
Louisiana?😂
bet it tastes good tho
Loving the references to Tupelo. Can't believe this place is still open in Starkville!
True
this episode was actually one of the few wholesome ones out there, i wish you could've reacted to the entire thing or at least in bits but i understand the time limit you have for each vid ;;
That was actually a very heartwarming episode of Hotel Hell
If possible, I’d recommend watching more of this episode. Pretty sure it’s widely considered the fan favorite episode and it actually gets to be pretty heartwarming :)
*Spoiler warning* for the rest of the episode content (and be aware I might get a few details off since it’s been awhile so pls do watch the ep) but the husband used to be super on top of the hotel upkeep (I think he may have even said it was a dream job for him) until he got in a terrible car accident, ultimately leaving him having to rely on a cane once he recovered. By the end of the episode, after the hotel and restaurant transformation as well as bringing in some trained chefs to handle the cooking, Gordon also rented an apartment for the couple to stay in
This was the most wholesome episode i seen back then. GR even helped them to get a house
I became homeless this week due to being injured and waiting for e.i to pay me a full wage... after waiting on month to get approved they gave me a 10 dollar payment... have to wait two more weeks until a full payment. Landlord wasn't having it, no heart. I'm just glad I still have data on my phone so I can watch my favorite youtubers... Another great upload Ken and Buffpro...
idek why i wrote this here... I'm just feeling lost.....
I'm sorry you have to deal with this. Hopefully things will turn around in two weeks when you get the payment. ❤
Keep your face always toward the sunshine and shadows will fall behind you.
You’ll be ok dude I promise I’m pulling for you man
How are things going for you now dude? Hope life is treating you better and you’re back on your feet x
This is actually a really wonderful episode. The owners were so sweet and deserved wonderful things in life, I'm glad Gordon did them right.
What he said: "One crawled out of my sandwich."
What I heard for some reason the first time: "I crawled out of my sandwich."
nothing wrong with being an idiot sandwich sometimes
@@crappyaccount
What do you think an Idiot Sandwich taste like?
Thank you! Today's my birthday!!! My s/o replayed the "if today's your birthday then happy birthday" just so I could hear it again and relate 😅
Love you! Happy birthday ❤️❤️🫂
Originally from Mississippi, graduated from Mississippi State University this year. While living in Starkville, I worked at the Kroger (grocery store chain) in town and met the owners of this place. Sweet people, but definitely odd. Not sure they should be business owners, but hey, to each is own.
Side note, kinda cool to watch people on YT from Mississippi that isn't an embarrassment to the state 😅
I'm so glad you covered the Starkville episode. My sister lived there a while too. Restaurant: Impossible came to Grenada recently too.
That’s one of the best episodes. You should finish watching it. Do a part 2 and 3.
Oh this is gonna be juicy
I see what you did there 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
This confirmed that I can no longer read the word JUICY without hearing Arin Hanson
@@sommerpiersonpierson965 I don’t know what you mean 😂
BAHAHAH NO NOT ME ABOUT TO COMMENT THE SAME THING
They were liv8ng in a small room in thw hotel after selling their home to keep the hotel open. Gorden bought them an apartment and paid their bills for a year till they can get back on their feet. The hotel is still open and doing good
Tabathas Salon Takeover, Kitchen Nightmares and Bar Rescue are my favourite genre of television.
I would just move if Gordon came into my local chilis and hated the food
"How much are you in debt?"
"900-"
Me: "okay that's not too bad"
"Thousand"
Me: *starts convulsing*
Today actually IS my birthday and hearing you say that at the end just made my day (even though I'm just one of thousands haha), thank you!
“Makin’ cornbread and playin’ hand football!” These guys are gems 🤣
Ken, your old house is worth a freakin' fortune now. That's where the US is now. Places people had good cost of living are now unaffordable for those same people. Not by a little either, some places are 100% higher in cost over the pandemic.
My house has doubled in market value in just 8 years
The same is happening in Australia and in other countries. Cost of living is increasing everywhere.
I love how this video gets everyone who lives in Mississippi together, and this is coming from a die hard Bulldog fan! (Aka MSU for people who don’t know)
I love the Bulldog Burger in Starkville! The one in Tupelo, not so much. Hubby and I both got sick ate eating there.
Do you happen to know what season it is?
Season 2, episode 5. The calumet inn I believe.
I think you're getting two episodes mixed up. There is another episode with the spoilt, crying children whose parents bought them a hotel.
Everyone in this episode is great.
@@stephaniechilders5176 look up hotel Chester. I watched the other one suggested and it wasn't the right one.
@@TPH250290 yeah this is the one episode where you genuinely want to cheer for everyone because they're just nice people who got in over their heads.
Ken: "again, I'm not gonna say where this is"
also Ken: *says it after next clip*
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Maybe it's not the same everywhere, but the one time I worked in a restaurant, the food started out okay, but then time passed, and they opened up new locations, which meant they had to switch to prepackaged so that it was consistent at every location. And the guests ruined my favourite homemade mashed potatoes because they complained about the pepper and garlic! 😠 Perhaps this is just what happens when feedback starts rolling in, and owners start trying to please everyone until it pleases no one. The corporate chef quickly leaves after training period, and then the training erodes with all the turnover like a game of telephone...
They’re talking about MugShots😂 the same place Gordon went at the beginning of the episode to even find Hotel Chester in the first place.
Moved to Starkville for college and was there for 10 years and just moved and never been there😅 everyone knows you go to Umi’s for the good sushi
6:37 the way I IMMEDIATELY knew y’all were talking about mugsh*ts lmaooo
Gordon came to the town beside my home town a few years ago for 25 Hours to Hell and Back. It was the one where he fixed up Old Ellicott City in MD, because it's just in such a bad state and floods every couple of years. It was super cool!
What town was that?
When Sukie said I’m trying my best, it broke my heart. I want to give them several hugs. 🥺
He was like "I knew I should've stopped at Taco Bell first."
2:14 in my country, almost ALL pieces of sushi have cream cheese lmao. And a lot also have avocado/palta, which I hate with a passion.
House prices are crazy even in small towns now.
To this day, I will not eat any burger or sandwich, that I didn’t personally prep, without funny inspecting it.
it's just extra seasoning wdym
I wish he'd come to Purvis, MS and at least tell these people to change their grease before they deep fry everything 😆
They don't even change the grease?
The only thing worse than finding a roach in your sandwich is finding half a roach in our sandwich.
I'm a real estate agent in upstate NY and hoooooooly shit is the market crazy! I just signed a purchase contract for a tiny little house in a small city and it's going for probably $100k more than it's worth. Makes me wonder if I'll ever be able to afford my own house! 😅
Yeah, this is definitely hitting home…..born and raised in Columbus, MS. 🤣🤣 its cool to know that y’all were from or lived in Mississippi 😇
Me instantly checking the sandwich I’m eating after Buff and the roach sandwich story 👀
I am a huge Gordon Ramsay fan because of his honesty, expertise, and willingness to help.
I love how he said he wasn't going to say where but then brings up the Google maps and also just says the town after.
I think he meant he wasn’t gonna say the restaurant name where Dane experienced the giant roach but idk
He meant he wasn't going to say the restaurant's name where Dane ended up getting the roach. He pulled up Google maps to look at where the house was. Geez, were you even paying attention?
I love this, ty for new video!!
I literally live in Starkville and the burger place Ken talked about actually ended up moving and completely changing. The place Gordon went still sucks and never actually got better but they recently changed owners so hopefully it’ll be back up to his standards.
As someone who lives above an hour away I kinda want to go there
what is it called?
@@crappyaccount the place Gordon went is called Hotel Chester and the burger place is Mugshots
@@happysunny0172 the restaurant part is called Magnolia Social now and I think it’s only open during the weekend if you wanna try it
Is the mugshots really that bad? I worked in one in Mississippi down on the coast and geneunly want to hear these stories
I think I'm more excited to learn that Ken went to state too. Cow college for life.
Gordon is a savage! 😂👌
This is the earliest I’ve been to any video ever
It's almost everywhere now the housing market is crazy
Loved the inmediate example of the 2 pronounciations 😆 0:36
How is a good question. I’m not alleging anything but I feel like the only way a palmetto bug (grew up in the south and that’s what we call the giant roaches) could get inside a sandwich was on purpose lol. If it was by accident… That place needs to be burned to the ground. Well it should be burned to the ground either way…
southerner here too...never heard a roach called that where im from, interesting
She was cutting the salmon for the sushi like"Cooking with Kate" 😭😂😂😂
I feel like strawberries on sushi isn't all that uncommon, I've had some Strawberry rolls & they're pretty good if made right.
HEY! We have strawberry on sushi in my country and it is freaking DELICIOUS. It makes the sushi so fresh, it is awesome (tbh, the fish is not tuna but salmon)
oh what country? sounds good
@@lbyblbab8496 Norway! It tastes awesome!
I went to State for my MA and my department always rented out their hotel ballroom (and the dining room from the beginning of the video) for functions. They were a really great couple. Doing much better now.
Strawberry Sushi sounds gross I'm not even gonna lie to you
Someone said they sell rice balls with strawberries in Japan (not Sushi though) but yeah that doesn't sound very good of a combination.
It's the worst like your mom not being mad just disappointed. CRUSHING!!!
I'm thrilled to see more Gordon Ramsay on this channel
Really cool to see a popular UA-camr that is a Mississippian and not only that a Mississippi State alumni. My sister is currently there and though I’m at a community college, I will be there soon. I’ve watched your channel a lot but I somehow never knew this.
I’m from Mississippi and I go to MSU. I’ve seen this gem like 20 times. It never gets old. Hail State
The waitress getting dragged down by the chef
Tupelo Mississippi boys unite! Its so cool to see a couple of guys from Mississippi strive on the internet.
