- How do you share the Gospel with someone who believes they already know it? How do you tell someone about Jesus when they say they already know Him? One of the biggest obstacles Christians have is talking to those in the LDS faith about what the Bible actually says about Him. I grew up Mormon. I've always been taught read the Book of Mormon, and get to the Temple.... they never taught me to have a personal relationship with Jesus. Then, when I saw what happens in the temple, that was enough for me. I'll never go there. I'm Christian. Barely found a church.... trying to get to know my Savior.
Fast and pray, and keep looking for a church. God bless you!
Interesting. I was a member for over 30 years. From the time I was just small and in primary, I was taught about Jesus - about drawing closer to him through prayer, asking for his help when needed, asking for forgiveness through him, etc. My Sunday school education was strongly Biblically based. This was also emphasized in Young Women's. I'm confused that you were "never" taught to have a personal relationship with Jesus b/c it was fundamental to primary lessons. At least, the primary I remembered from when I was young and when I taught it 20 years ago.
I grew up around Mormons and the girls were all about marrying in the Temple. Number one goal!

Before I left the LDS faith, I wanted to start a quest to simplify my faith. Mormonism is pretty complicated and convoluted, and it was Matthew 22:37-40 that began that process.
I just ordered a copy of Eric's book and I'm excited to get going on it.

When you both were talking about how much you just love Mormons I couldn’t help but tear up a little bit..
My heart burns for them, and often I feel like I’m the only one like me. I feel like I’m crazy.
They are so awesome and they need the real Jesus Christ. They need the message of grace and rest in Jesus! If you ask any LDS if they died right now where they would be going, most don’t know! They just hope that they did enough!
I’ve been meeting with them for years now and it’s been the biggest blessing and challenge.

What would they gain by breaking their Temple covenants and following you? They have been promised eternal marriage and Exaltation after this life...as well as The Spirit as a constant companion and Christs personal guidance and protection in morality. What are you promising them that they don't already have?
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I'm moved by how much you both care! I'm a total stranger to you, and yet you are invested in my well being. That is incredibly sweet! And I love that we don't have to agree but can still have good will towards each other.
When you die, you're going to need the salvation of Jesus Christ. Good will means nothing at judgement time.

Lifelong 5th generation Mormon here. In recent years I found there was never enough Jesus and Jesus was never enough there. Loving our new little Bible church and Bible study classes!
I pray that you will find the rest you need in Jesus and also that you'd experience the family that the Holy Spirit builds just like Romans 12 talks about.

@@JohnDoe-eo8gi I know people who say "Jesus" repeatedly all the time. It doesn't mean they "know" Jesus. Mormons are not Christians. They are mormons.

I wish I knew all this years ago when for the first time ever we had a couple missionaries knock on our door. Unfortunately we were not Christians back then, so I just told them we weren't interested in talking with them.
But now I know more and maybe one day I'll get another chance to share the gospel with them.

The celestial kingdom sounds very disappointing though I must say.
Who wants to be in charge of an entire world that could be just like this one, with the fall and people who will rebel against you, and the cycle never ends?
I hope to enter into Father's rest for me when I pass from this life. I will happily (continue to) praise him forever with my brothers and sisters after this life!
I agree. I think this is a fading doctrine because it’s unpopular. What part of “eternal rest “ is running your own planet. No thanks. It takes a lot of pride to think you can do that.

According to Paul celestial glory is comparable to the 🌞 while lesser resurrected glories are comparable to the 🌙 and ✨.
If it sounds disappointing it's because of how it was explained to you.
There will come a time when celestial glory is the only thing you will desire...and cannot have.

Melissa this a comment I posted to your video about being wooed by the New Age /Progressive Christianity movement because of questions you had in your Christian faith. I wanted to repost so you would see this video and know how great I thought that video was. Here it is:

Awesome video! One of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite Sunday School teachers was "Never Surrender Your Thinking". I am now fortunate enough to have an office in my home and I am looking to an artist to make a great picture with this saying on it. One of the main things that drove me nuts in Sunday school classes was when the teacher asked a question about a portion of Scripture and then someone answered with a commentary. The reason many "Christians" leave the faith is because they were never taught to think theological issues through and when they had questions the scenario you (Melissa) painted was so true-they were pushed aside or treated as a traitor or weakling. Ironically, as a person who is very interested in sharing the Gospel with Muslims what I have noticed in pretty much every Muslim to Christian conversion story is the person saying something to the effect "I began to think..." This then began the journey that lead them to Christ.
One of the most disgusting examples of what you first talked about in the video I witnessed from a popular Christian radio program that came on daily in my city. This radio host absolutely berated an individual who was struggling in the faith. In fact the host said something like "come on, you know better". Instead of compassion coupled with loving reasoning this was the response. Lost total respect for that "radio host".
Sometime ago a Muslim site published a "biblical contradiction" that stumped me. I got on the computer and found an excellent article that reconciled the supposed "contradiction". I had to do some digging but the answer was there. And it was there because another person wasn't willing to give up. Frank Turek actually answered a question I had long wondered about in one of his relatively recent videos.
I do not mean this in any sexist manner-I am absolutely thrilled that there are strong women in the faith like you Melissa. Thank you for your honesty and thank you for never giving up and never surrendering your thinking (I get the strong and confident feeling you won't).

I'm so glad that you mentioned John Dehlin. He is such a compassionate person and I pray for him and Carah B. Both have rejected the true Gospel and have helped many Mormons as they deal with realizing that Mormonism is a lie. But since they have not accepted the true Gospel, they cannot have the compassion necessary to lead them towards the true Christ. I have had more than one very close friend who were super devout and I have studied Mormonism for years. I follow channels on youtube of people who have left. I am heartbroken to see how hurt they are, and how much Mormonism steals from people. I still can't figure out how to help my close friend and her family out of the church. They are beyond devout and I have tried many different techniques. But my heart constantly hurts by their inability to see and accept the true Christ.
No one can come to God except the Spirit draw him. Pray and fast for them to be drawn to Jesus and realize their lack and the depth of their sin.

You are correct. The Mormon church holds families hostage. You can’t leave or you may really lose all family relationships. (Like Scientology!) They make the hugest deal about family and it being eternal (whatever that looks like) and yet put the church over it.
So not true.....
I suppose like most things, it depends on the family. When I left, my family was understanding. They gave me the space to make the decision on my own even though it wasn't an easy one. I don't hold animosity towards the church, continue to have friends with some members, and I can acknowledge those things that were positive in my experience when I was a member.
I came across a few UA-camrs several months ago of ex-mo’s and my heart turned to compassion to those who are stuck in this high demand religion. Sadly, those who have come out of Mormonism most have not become born-again Christians. Mostly they are atheists, new agers, satanists, LGBT, etc. They are still lost. This book sounds amazing.

Thank you for this video. There are Mormon missionaries that walk around my college campus every week. I've been wanting to learn more about their beliefs and how to preach the gospel to them.
I wanted to be LDS so badly in high school. Most of my friends were LDS because I was very straight laced and more domestic oriented. I live in a largely populated Mormon area of southern Calif . I adored the family emphasis, having lots of kids , high morals, modesty and home education classes. Fortunately I was taken to church regularly and knew my Bible and knew II could not convert because their messed up doctrine. I must say I was a little sad. I still admire their wholesomeness and modesty standards compared to Christians.
Ye shall know them by their fruits.
The LDS church isn’t conservative anymore. It’s not the same as when I grew up in it (which I loved) or even when I was raising my kids. Some members may still hold traditional biblical values but the leadership has gone worldly in what they do (no matter what they say)and it trickles down. Our current bishop celebrates gay marriage for example. No we don’t go anymore.

@@hanichay1163 Not even close to true. If your current bishop actually celebrates gay marriage, he is in severe error and you should talk to the Stake Pres., about this. He is way outside of Church teachings on this one.
As an ex-mormon, those are the parts I miss most. (You know, that and having my parents be proud of me lol.) For the life of me I can't figure out how to fit into Christian culture.

In the 80's they built a temple outside Houston and had missionaries all over the place! They were nice, helpful, good students, etc., but it amazed me that they got up at like 5 in the morning to go to their "youth group" before school... then my mom or one of her friends found the movie "the godmakers" and ever since they seem to be everywhere... So sad. Thank you both for all you do and that you have love for them. God bless you and may you bring forth much fruit!

I’m a Christian but I have had such a massive interest in Mormonism for years now. Mainly because of The Book of Mormon musical, It’s just so interesting (even if it doesn’t fit with Christian doctrine). But man it’s fascinating

Don't LDS members know the history of Joseph Smith and the life he lived right up until the time he was killed?
Regular members mostly know about the controlled narrative the leadership in the church wants them to know. That has been my experience.
When members do research it is hard to get info from the church. When they look into sources outside the church and tell other members they are looking they get shunned.

I told myself that there was nothing else out there too prior leaving the “Christian” group I joined as a teenager. Some that were in my group felt that these odd doctrines were developed so that we wouldn’t leave since nowhere else had the “truth”

It is not how little the diffrences are on some beliefs, but WHICH beliefs.
When there is doctrine that God was was once a man who became a God and that Mormons (if they do everything just right) will become a God as well...

As to Kolob, it's obvious that Kolob is a reference to Jesus Christ, him being the Morning Star and all.

The LDS church has recently cancelled Pres. Kimball’s famous book (out of print) I think primarily because he was tough on homosex and sexual sin in general. People were complaining and mission presidents were telling their young missionaries not to read it because it made them feel guilty!
This book is still found in almost every Bishops office . Most meeting houses around the world will also have one in their little library. That book hasn't really gone anywhere

Great questions Melissa! Thank you guys for sharing this! I’ve been dealing with the Jehovah’s Witness for a little while. We are very respectful but just can’t see eye to eye on much! This is informative about the Mormons. Also, these poor Mormon women. Not much to look forward to in Heaven. It’s business as usual.
I’m so excited to check out this book. Seems almost perfect. I was raised Baptist, but joined Catholicism. Very happy with that decision. HOWEVER. I have a very secular brother who has been dating an LDS man for a while. Maybe this book can help when in my relationship with my bro trying to get him back to Christianity.

I’m an active Latter-day Saint, a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and very well-versed in the arguments against my faith. I’d be happy to come on discuss how our doctrine about Jesus completely conforms to the Bible and pre-Nicean, early Christian beliefs.

@@the925lady Actually, fasting and praying is a normal thing in the church. I find it truly healing to pray to Heavenly Father everyday. It feels like you have a friend that is always there watching over you.

One question I have about the three kingdoms in which the celestial kingdom refers to paradise is in 2 Corinthians 12:2-4. Paul talks about a man caught up to the third heaven. Is this the celestial kingdom that Mormons preach about? Just curious.
No, the celestial kingdom is a place where people will be married and men will have many wives and women will eternally bear children. Matthew 22:30 says, “For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.”
Yes Paul was viewing the Celestial Kingdom. He mentioned the third heaven in that scripture and Celestial resurrected glory in 1 Cor. 15 when teaching about how bodies will be resurrected. He compared it to the glory of the Sun.
This guest and the host are trying to get people to trade that for Terrestrial glory...which Paul taught is like the glory of the moon. Not a wise trade.
@@cynthiafisher9907they refers to the particular example Christ was responding to. "They" are identified as Sadducees and will not be given in marriage in the resurrection...seeing as they don't even believe in the resurrection. Why would they ask about marriage in heaven if it wasn't an accepted doctrine at the time?? Even the corrupt Jews understood this doctrine better than modern christians do...which is sad.
To answer Melissa's question about why they stay- I did leave, but before I did, these were the things rattling around in my head.
1. If it's true, then the sketchiness doesn't matter any more than King David's affair affects the truth of Christianity. Yes, now I see how that's not an equal comparison, but back then it just seemed like a perfect God was working through imperfect people.
2. My marriage and family were on the line, including custody of my children if divorce was on the table. THANK GOD that my husband followed me out, (after being dead set on proving me wrong, and then accidentally discovering the truth of the biblical Jesus as he studied,) but it was still an enormous risk.
3. I don't fit in with Christians. And this continues to be a painful problem even a year and a half after leaving the church. It's not enough to shake my faith one single inch, but it's exhausting and difficult to be the cultural outsider. I can study the gospel and learn that, but I can't seem to figure out Christian culture. I would never ever go back to Mormonism, but after a Christian gathering, (full of lovely, Christlike people, mind you,) part of me still misses Mormon ward parties where at least I felt like I fit in and understood the world around me.

@@tigergirl305 I don't understand all the churchy terms with their cultural subtext, I don't get the Baptist inside jokes, I don't know the hymns, I bring a totally different set of ideas and experiences to the table, I ask too many questions, and people tend to assume that I'm uneducated about the Bible becuase of my background- There's more things too, but they're too vague to really articulate. I was born and raised in Utah and my entire family has been Mormon for generations, so I don't know how to function in a culture that's so different from what I've always known. It's hard to not feel lesser-than or like an outsider. And it's not anyone's fault, it's just hard.

I can't speak for anyone else, but stay encouraged... I personally would LOVE to go to church with someone like you. I ask a lot of questions, too (my family goes back generations in the church and I still have questions because I have a love to learn more). Does your church have a small group? If so, that might be a great way to get to know people on a more personal level and them to get to know you and your story also... I dare say you have a lot to offer them as well.
Joseph rewrote the Bible too. He has his own version. Supposedly check it out if you haven’t.

I listen to a lot of people discuss religion. I’m LDS. I look for truth within and without my church. I seek Christ, and hope to come to know Him more in time.
First time on this channel and unfortunately this conversation is very uninteresting. It’s not compelling in any way. I’m passing the 3/4 point, but don’t think I can wait any longer for something with traction to be said. I was hoping to be challenged or engaged in some way.
I noticed that your guest specifically used Protestant Christian…do you have issues with the Roman Catholic Christian beliefs?
Why introduce a dozen variables.

Romans 5:18-19: so, then, just as through one transgression came condemnation for all human beings, so also through one act of righteousness came a rectification of life for all human beings; for, just as by the heedlessness of the one man the many were rendered sinners, so also by the obedience of the one the many will be rendered righteous.
What is the best version of the bible? I want nothing to do with King James version because that’s what I used when I was a Mormon.
I recommend the CSB or the NIV if you want one that puts things simpler. Stay away from the Message as it's just a paraphrase and the Passion translation because there are obvious changes. But preference is subjective within the Christian community.

37:21 you almost have it right. The celestial kingdom is reserved for those who covenanted through baptism and kept that covenant. It's not about works but about repentance and continuing to strive to be perfect as Christ commanded. No one in the church believed that you have to be perfect in this life. In fact, and you should know this, the phrase enduring to the end means that you don't live a perfect life, but you live towards a perfect life. And no works. Don't save you since the atonement of Christ was already done 2,000 years ago and he has already paid for the sins of the world. So any payment you make now is meaningless because the debt has been paid but that doesn't mean that you can't forfeit that reward by rejecting Christ.
What does covenanted mean and how do you keep it?
And sorry no you still might not get to the celestial kingdom. Least I haven’t had a bishop be a noble answer that question. They just say will find out one day. Sounds like well when we die I will find out if it’s the truth or not. That’s why I just left the church about two months ago, and would love to have your book. My uncles in a nursing home and he’s been a member his whole life almost. I need to turn around and told my mom his sister he’s not ready you don’t think he’s worthy enough yet. He’s the most right. And I’ve ever known he’s been a bishop high priest you name it state president in the church, faithful Ty pain member All is live. And to this day, he don’t know where he’s going to go. His wife is been passed away for 6-7 years now.
Im always blown away by people who think they are qualified to pick and chose who will be included in the body of Christ.

Years ago when I worked as a paralegal, our firm was acquainted with a county judge who left his Baptist upbringing to become Mormon for his wife. To this day, I cannot understand how someone with a bright intelligence can adhere to Mormon beliefs; to me, most of their doctrines are just plain weird and nonsensical! (For instance, becoming a god and having your own planet??!!)

50:38 Spirit Paradise and prison is another example of biblical teachings that are plain as day. The The Bible teaches that when Christ left the earth he visited the spirits in prison and taught them the gospel and it explicitly says that they were the one's who were disobedient at the time of Noah and they were taught the gospel. And of course the Bible teaches that Christ resurrection freed the spirits in prison

Also LDS folks would agree that they suffer from historic Christianity, but so do evangelicals who reject the necessity of baptism, the need for an eclesiastical hierarchy and many other traditions rejected after the Protestant Reformation.

I grew up fervently a Mennonite, Lutheran and Baptist.
But I have never felt the Holy Ghost so resurgently healing, than from reading the Book of Mormon, and attending the Restored Church. Their really was a Great Apostasy. Joseph Smith truly saw God the Father and Jesus, His redeeming Son, in the Sacred Grove.

The book of mormon has its problems but the real issues come from Doctrines and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price. Joseph definitely saw something and you definitely felt something - not convinced it was the Holy Spirit. May God show you His Word and the truth through it - not feelings and visions from other humans.

Fundamentally the difference between a Jesus that offers grace through faith (Biblical) vs. a Jesus that offers salvation through works, ordinances etc.

They say Heavenly Mother is not talked about and such because she has to be protected from being disrespected. A Goddess has to be sequestered? No. And it’s the same line they give for the way they treat women in the church. There is a legacy of dismissiveness toward women. According to Joseph Smith’s legacy an unlimited number of women is not even equal to one man! There is no such thing as male fidelity in Mormon orthodoxy. Pres Nelson expects to have at least 2 wives so far for eternity.

I'm exhausted just listening to this... poor people are being fooled into all these rituals. Even if I could potentially become my own "god the father" I don't think I'd want the job. I sometimes questions even how or why God bothers with us? That's why He is God and I'm not... lol If I was "god" I'd send another flood... lol... be thankful I'm not.
