Babel II truly is one of the greats and it's nice to see you do a vid about it (And I fully agree that Yokoyama needs more love internationally cuz that man truly had some interesting ideas)
I always had some interest in Babel II, the OVA actually got dubbed here in Brazil just because of the character designs. Also I really wanted to see more of Babel II in the Giant Robo OVA, the moment I discovered he was Big Fire in that continuity I had my jaw on the floor. - V.D.
The 90s OVA is the best adaptation, BUT they change the ending to something more by the numbers, what is a shame in my opinion. The author make "Mars" too, it's a fusion of "giant robot" + Babel 2, but much more cynical and hopeless, what make my think that he is having a bad time during the time
Reading the Korean translation version as a contemporary 5 year old, the futurism and realistic action portended what was to follow in fiction, and helped children distinguish between scientific fact and fictional superstition
I read Babel the 2nd so I'd have some idea of who the characters were when I went into the Giant robo OVA. It ended up being one of my favorite Manga ever. It's an absolute classic.
There are two sequel series that follows this story. One focuses on Babel being a science experiment of the CIA while they were trying to find the Tower of Babel, and a more recent one that has Babel focusing on the US directly. Hell, the redesigns of both Ropross and posiden are some of my favourite designs for mecha so far
I kinda wish there were more of Yokoyama's stuff translated, I was honestly very surpriesed that his manga adaptation of 3 kingdoms was fully translated but the Tetsujin 28 manga wasn't lol.
It’s very good manga. I think the anime series and ovas would have been much better if it’s art and story was more faithful and stayed close to original manga. The anime’s art styles are disappointing compared to original manga. If you like Babel II; I suggest you check out second man. It’s about a guy who has similar powers to Babel. He gets tired of being the only one with such powers and decides to be frozen so that he can be revived in a distant future when there could be more people like him. But the hibernation chamber malfunctions and he ends up waking in a very far future when most of mankind has been killed off by Computer AI and it’s robot minions. He must fight various mechanical weapons and seek out and destroy the computer and restart humanity again.
I just finished reading the manga it's really great but sadly seems like Mitsuteru Yokoyama always reaches an end point and then gets a change of heart and decides to continue I think after the Alien Virus Arc the story was done but we again go back to square one just in the form of another short final arc which didn't really do well for the story overall.
Every year or season, there's so many shiny new anime and manga. It's sad that a lot of people won't go back and check out the classics.

I've seen a little bit of Babel 2 from the 70's and the OVA series from the 90's
i never saw the series from 2001 .

Older art-style looks great, I do not see the problem.
The anime for it is now in English.
