  • Joakim Ericsson recounts his experience as a student of Odd Nerdrum back in 2002.
    This is an excerpt from the upcoming episode of the Cave of Apelles with Jan-Ove Tuv. In this episode, Ericsson talks about his journey from 19th century academic painting to the gaming industry and fantasy illustrations.
    He will also talk about his time at the Florence Academy, his fascination with Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings and the Hero's Journey.

    I'm amazed and dazzled by the depth of imagery Odd comes with-i guess ill have to paint for beauty.

    scraping the canvas after each painting session leaves ephemeral bits of paint that create the effect of painting air. Colour and space are comprised of much of what is light itself...to achieve this with pigment..you cannot paint solid...you paint...scrape, lightly brush, then add more colour and scrape again....over time...the you create the effect of light and air...of the space between you and something else.
