Great job guys! Jan-Ove, your commentary was insight and poetic. Thanks for making these videos for all of us that can’t come to see the works in person. These videos offer us a captivating window, and they are without a doubt, the next best thing. Many thanks! Hope you are doing really well.
Thank's Jan Ove...interesting and mesmerizing !
What a wonderful post, I used to ride a bus overnight from Detroit to NYC every year to see Odd's most recent paintings at Forum. I would love to see his work again. Many thanks
Amazing! The paintings opens my heart...and makes me emotional...
It's near impossible trying to defend the work of Nerdrum and his school at American art colleges these days. As a figurative/narrative painter myself, I had an incredibly difficult time defending my own work to my professors, who were only interested in abstract/conceptual art. How can you look at these works and not see the importance of these images and the way in which they're painted? The Nerdrum School and its movement are passing on a great legacy.
There are a lot of people who don't paint at all and their opinion has been cast as expert knowledge. I believe Emerson said let me not make the mistake of feeling persecuted when I'm being contradicted. When people have to defend their work this comes to mind. It's a mystery to me why figurative painting poses such a threat.
Because the work is a threat to the masses at the art colleges, where no talent is required, and having instant gratification as an artist is the norm.
Didn't Odd at some point say "If that is art, I'm not an artist", or something to that effect. He was right of course. Deep down they know the pile of trash in the corner, with a broom leaning against the wall next to it, is not art, so they resent the figurative painter.
No sense in trying to explain yourself to those not capable of hearing your explanation. Believe in who you are.
Wow his work is literally out of this world. Speechless.
Son bellísimas las pinturas del maestro Nerdrum. Sus cuadros son como una poesía oscura, misteriosa.
Great video , thanks🦋
Great video, I watched and listened to it while painting 🙏👍👌

I suck at remembering names, but back in ‘87, I saw one of Odd’s paintings, and have never forgotten his name.
I won’t say it’s odd for me to remember a name so well though. Not gonna do it.
good paintings but sometimes these explainations feel like a stretch
please, What is the name of the song 47 seg?
The music used in this video is "Aquarium" by Saint Saens 🎶😊
Abstract and conceptual are so passe as most professors become...
one has to spin outside the confines of the black cube.
Exacto ....
As annoying as the critique of the paintings is it pales in comparison to the distraction with his hands and body obscuring the paintings he fails to describe with any enlightening observations. With that being said nowhere else do I find Nerdrum's works displayed so thank you for the video.
The narrator pronounces Nerdrum in english... nerdy stuff.
Why do we need that someone must explain a painting? I like Odd Nerdrum but it`s enough simply watching. And i`m a painter to.
Who said it needs to be explained? Simply giving your take on something does not say that it is needed, just that it may be interesting for some. As a painter I like to hear people talk about paintings, you should too.
why does this guy go on and on about nothing. What a sycophant . I had to turn off the volume. The visual is great.
Looks like underpaintings
No.
Not at all
Okey dokey.
YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT ART
