Massing, the addition & removal of value. An approach to image making that avoids linear drawing & ‘filling’ in afterwards. It can b utilized with graphite, charcoal, pastel, watercolor, oil paint &…….
even though the value cannot b ‘wiped’ away later, by using pigment over pigment to adjust value up or down, the philosophy of massing can even b executed through acrylic paint.
Massing which includes positive & negative space. The addition & removal of value. Can b used in graphite, charcoal, pastel, watercolor, oil, & ……..
Though u cant reactivate the material or ‘wipe’ away value, this approach can b utilized in acrylic by using pigment over pigment to adjust value.

Yes, absolutely! Conte is slightly more sticky - like a mix of charcoal and pastel. Charcoal is more dusty but in general the techniques apply directly! I enjoy drawing with charcoal too
