  • I've been building a workstation for our new team member and decided to transform my old render master into #Houdini powerhouse. With #Threadripper #2990WX I achieved my goal and am quite satisfied with the results. This is by far the most expensive CPU I ever bought but I think it's totally worth it in a long run.

This processor is the best choice for the money at the moment. I’m also working in Houdini everyday and going with Threadripper was the best upgrade I ever made. Now you got very solid base. I would suggest getting 256GB of DDR4 Dimms for that setup and maybe Titan RTX (or two for nvLink) with 24GB of vram to boost smaller iterations with OpenCL before running full sim. Have a great day Andrey and keep up with great content.

I went from a 4 thread cpu to 1950x when I got confident Houdini wouldn't defeat me. I haven't stopped crying since. Vex multithreaded. More and more SOPs compilable to be multi-threaded. Even Mantra stops being unusably slow, and still dumps on every renderer on the market in terms of features and customization potential.
    Can't wait for Houdini content.

It takes waaaay longer than we wish, but Maxon actually rewrites the code to fully support multicore computations, and they did rewritten the core already, but in each release they focus only on one particular module rework. So it's pretty slow but I hope they'll finally shift it to be on par with Houdini speed wise

I have seen compare of all GPU in different program and renderer, 2080 and 1080ti have very close perfomance, but 1080ti have more memory. So whats better to spent money on new card with RTX or buy older one with same perfomance and lower price? Thanks.

Good afternoon Andrey. I watch your videos a lot more now. I want to get into photorealistic animation shorts. Will be okay with the RTX 2090 ti? My motherboard is the z10pe-d8 ws with 2x Intel Xeon E5-2687W V4 CPUS
