Thank you for video. It helps me do the tune up job. The key point is when the flywheel at the diamond point, how to make sure it is TDC1 or TDC6. Feel the free travel of the valve arm, but my tractor’s all intake side valves are tight. I spent a lot time for this question. Then I watch the camshaft video, know the triangle point on the gear , it is TDC1.

Thanks for your video . My truck freightliner evo dd15 2016 . I used to have 7.3mpg stable eamty or loaded Recently the number gos down to 6.4 . And no change I did engine filter changed and still 6.4mpg going
A valve adjustment may help. Vales may be tight. Perform a compression test. This may help you to see which cylinder may be low. Also, perform an ISB test. This may help you see which injector or injectors are not performing up to par.
@@BruceMcKeever compression test might be the easiest way to tell. If the numbers are low. Also, when the engine is cold. At start up, listen for any noise or hollow type sound. Like when the air compressor is working
How do you know if cylinder 1 is at TDC just by rotating the engine at the alternator? What should I look for under the valve cover to know if I’m at TDC
You can confirm TDC1 by looking at the gears in the back of the rocker housing. If you see the triangles pointing up. Each rocker will have its own triangle. I also use the tool to confirm, they offer a tool for the flywheel that gets inserted and there is a tool for the CAM. I use both when I first get started. If you are TDC 1. You will have intake valves 1, 2 and 4 ready to be adjusted. You will have exhaust valves 1, 3 and 5 ready for adjustment. If you don’t have the timing tools then you can look for the timing mark on the flywheel and line it up with the flywheel housing. That should put you pretty close to TDC 1 or TDC 6. Hope this helps
Great question. Yes, take your time when trying to perform a valve adjustment. Get familiar with the engine and what to look for. It takes practice when you are using your feeler gauge. If it is too tight or too loose. It has to have slip drag
hey so i only have experience with the MTU 12V engines since i only work on those... my question is, that tool you are using to rotate the engine, is it useful for all models like cummins, detroit etc. or is there a specific one for each engine brand. thank you.
Typically a valve adjustment will cost about $300-400 depending on the truck. For example, if you have a Cascadia with the short hood the cost will be more because cylinders 4-5-6 are harder to get.

So the triangle present is tdc1 & no triangle is tdc6?
Use the triangle to get TDC 1, rotate 360 degrees and use the point on the flywheel. But you are correct, there is no triangle on TDC 6
@@CarlosDieselElectric definitely always make sure the timing mark is on the flywheel both tdc 1 & 6
Awesome video. I’m about to set timing for tdc on Monday and install my cams. This is everything I needed to see. Thank you

The tool is specific to DD engine. The DD13, DD15 and the DD16.

Is the natural rotation Carlos the way my engine fan os going when my engine is running?
Look at the main crank pulley down at the front of the engine.
How much is that work adjustment valve

Jeremy Kura the cost depends slightly on what year the truck is. Typically the cost of an inframe is about $17K-$19K. This would be parts and labor.
