I love when people know what they're getting into when choosing a breed like this and are willing to give them what they need. Not only is it a wast of the dogs potential if you don't work with them the way you do, but it's so miserable for the poor dog to be forced to live such a sedentary life when they know they can do so much more for you. Your dog is gorgeous and it thrills me to see you treat him/her right! ❤️
Katie Rosa , I agree 100%! I have wanted one for about 3 years now but I’m in graduate school and my husband is not very active so I’m waiting until next year at this time to buy myself my graduation present! A long awaited and overdue vacation and a Belgian Malinois!
@@patriciagrigsby-molina2460 you have no idea how happy it makes me to hear that! I'm glad you're willing to wait until you're ready instead of rushing into it. I wish you all the best when you get your Malinois. And good luck with school. ❤️
I got my malnois Bruce at 8 months old. Although he was house trained he had bad manners like chewing and counter surfing but really these dogs learn so fast and within 2 weeks he was done. I literally walked him between 35 and 40 miles a week. He's 2 now and when I say lets go for a walk, he hides. I literally walked him so much he hates it. He is not hyper at all. On July 1st I got him an 8 week old sister called Bella. We have had her 2 weeks and she is just about house trained AT 10 WEEKS Old!!! She also sits when I put her food in the bowl until I say she can get it. These dogs are easy to train, they are so smart and learn fast. I will never own another breed!!
I had one. He was retired police dog. He gave his life protecting my family from thieves trying to break in my house when I lived in South Africa. I still think of him even though it happened almost 15 years ago. He was family.
What a happy malinois to have such dedicated people. To all the people who want to only stress how "hard" these dogs are to keep: Look at this dogs stress levels - they're very reasonable! I'd imagine that's because there's such balance in the training and everyday life, there's no need to pant, whine, bark or look for something to bite. Many malinoises that are shown here on UA-cam with loads of activities, are not necessarily happy and balanced. Many of them are stressed. This video was a joy, thank you!
Our priority is to have a balanced happy companion dog, sports are secondary. They live with us as family members in the house and are involved in pretty much every aspect of our lives. Thank you for noticing these details and sharing your thoughts!
Greetings from Mechelen, dear friends, the hometown of the Malinois! Always great to see how a beautiful dog is loved and cared for! May you enjoy many blessed years together!
I've never seen the need for an e-collar or choke chain. All my dogs were trained without the use of harmful equipment, even when they would go through a small time of stubbornness as pups. My dutch shepherd mix is probably the best dog I've ever had and will do all I ask of her and more. Having some problems with my new gsd, but he's getting there too. Just at a slower pace. Just need patience. :) Beautiful dog though.
Do they learn fast? I have pits and they are very smart but so stubborn training is more on going than not. Especially with the APBT. the Staffie, not so much. He isn't near as stubborn. Love the malanoise but don't really want another dog that requires constant training.
@@sandynoland3474 every dog needs constant training especially such a high energy breed like the malinois. My dog is only a chihuahua/shih Tzu mix and not a particularly high energy dog. She gets training every day plus her walk plus enrichment. There is always something new to train and it keeps her out of mischief and makes her use her brain. If you describe your dog as stubborn, you aren't using a high enough reinforcer.
@@rachelireland8904 it would help me greatly if my husband would participate in training but he doesn't. He also doesn't reinforce much either. He is finally starting to praise them more.
I just put my Mal of almost 16 years down. My heart is so broken at losing my best and most faithful friend ever! You need lots of devotion to have these dogs. Best dogs ever!!!!
Loved your video! She's your Star Child! You poured your heart into her as if she was your baby girl. You guys knew what you were doing and Baby Girl is the proof. Wonderful work Team!
Very well done 👍🏽 he reminds me of my girl. I miss when she was a pup. But shes all mellowed out now and does very well at responding to my commands. Its amazing the kind of bond we can create with dogs. Theres times where we will look at one another and she will know stuff like its time to go to her bed or time for a walk, etc. Just amazing.
My mali girl mellowed out too, at about 2 years old. Really surprised me, she is my first mal, and the first working breed dog I've had that calmed down before at least 7 years of age. I expected with a Malinois there would be no off switch until they get much older. I think it might be partly because she is a female. Still ready to go any time, to do anything outdoors, but she definitely has an off switch and she is only 2 1/2 years old.
Don't listen to the people who are talking about choke chains and e-collars on here. Dogs are pack drive animals and those are two very good ways of utilizing positive punishment for dogs if utilized the proper way. I would say to work on your marker training a bit 😉 but all in all the pup looks great! As a trainer I can respect someone who is using the Malinois properly! Dogs definitely living a happy life.
Thank you for the support! We definitely do what is best for the dogs. This includes a safe, happy and productive life. We're constantly trying to improve our dog training as well!
@@talaverajr391 Walking 2-4 miles a day doesn't do much for a Mals energy level. Kick a tennis ball for 4 hours everyday, then take for a hike/walk. When ya get home, kick the tennis ball again :)

Beautiful video. It's amazing to see how much dedication went into this dog since all showed clips include mental stimulation, activities and very diverse and sometimes demanding training, so basically everything this breed needs. The result is a beautifully raised well tempered dog!
This is how a perfect way of raising a very healthy dog: - Excercise - Training - Vacation - Playtime And this video is a perfect example. You both a great parents to your dog. Thank you!
I have two mals myself, I miss the puppy days but they are so smart. My dogs never have been on a leash I trained them to always be at my side and they go everywhere with me! Mals gotta be the most intelligent breed on the planet! Loving, loyal, and protective
==God Bless You== What an adorable dog. I had to say goodbye to two late last year and I came across some photos and videos of them this evening. I was in tears and I miss them so so much. Make sure you give your doggo lots of love and to whomever reads this, do the same. They are truly a blessing in our lives and companions we never deserved despite their never-ending loyalties and love. Thanks for this... It warmed my heart, Look after her and don't be too much of a taskmaster.
If you live in county yard, rural areas, Malinois could be one of the best animal companion that you could ever want. They can hunt, protect, play or just simply lying near you. Fantastic little beast!
I just wanna say thank you. I’ve been on the look out for a consistent training method for a while. Your method of training showed in this 5 min vid. I took what you were doing and applied it to my own situation. After a month of non stop consistently training I am proud to report that my wife is now trained and obedient. Thank you ❤️
The effort and energy they put into this video alone shows how much they love this dog. So much attention and playing and work. A malinois' dream! Beautiful video, and doing these things is my dream! Thumbs up, thank you(:
What a beautiful dog, you are blessed to have her and she is lucky to have you. My dog died about a year ago and not a day goes by that I dont think of him and miss him terribly.
Aww that's awesomeee. Wish I was more persistent with my Malinois' training. Didn't put much attention to it and now he's just kinda crazy... Awesome dog tho, love him to death.
I think you need to find a trainer that uses motivational methods like FOOD to train your pup. Dog that is highly interested in food is very very easy to train.
koolerpure , I have to agree about the treats! My male puppy was house trained in about a day but I say 2 days once he knew he would be rewarded for going potty outside. It was golden from then on. Treat training. I trained my girl back and down on Halloween 🎃 night! Treats are great for training.
I would recommend informing yourself about operant conditioning and trying what works best for you out of these methods. If you will try using aversive tools I'd highly recommend consulting a dog trainer or a seminar beforehand, so nothing goes wrong and nobody is hurt.
You have your collar in the wrong place. It needs to be up higher on their neck. Right at the jugular. Believe me, if you place the collar up high, they cannot pull and just a few jerks will get their attention. I have trained dogs, without treats with this method with total success. It takes 5 minutes to correct the pulling behavior doing it this way. It's really about training the humans to put the collar in the effective place. Just try it! It works for even the toughest cases. I learned directly from the "dog whisperer himsef", Ceasar Milan. Try it! And your dog won't take you for a walk anymore!
To be a responsible Mal owner you need to invest the time and attention that this owner has. Well done. Thank you for sharing this wonderful snap shot of your pups first two years.
Kudos for putting up with all the idiots in the comment section who think that e-collar/prongs have no use in dog training. Anyone can tell that is a happy dog.
Thank you! Half the time we just want to tell these people to go away and let the result speak for itself. If the dogs are happy, what is the problem? The other half wants to confront these bullies just to educate readers about proper use of tools. The irony is, there are also people who tell us we use too many treats... LOL. Thanks for the comment!
My dog is trained in similar way as yours but without an e-collar because she is quite sensitive to harsh corrections. And there is nothing wrong with using e-collar as long as the owner uses it RESPONSIBLY. And that means that you can use it, if you know how, for corrections and corrections only, when the dog already knows, what he/she is supposed to do, and never for teaching it commands. That way you can have a happy dog who is not afraid but still works beacuse it wants to and not because it is afraid. And great job with your malinois, btw. I wish someday I can get my own mal and be able to train it as good as yours is trained :)
Thank you for the comment, and we agree with you! We consider ourselves balanced trainers, but we rely heavily on +R and -P, we use +P and -R sparingly, and only during the proofing stage. All her foundation was built via luring, shaping, and capturing. She wears her e-collar whenever we are outdoors as a back-up.
Mark and Treat have to say animal community is made up of too many people who think they know it all and act as though they're the moral compass of the world
In my experience (40 years of training) those same people, who love to tell you YOU are wrong, have the most uncontrolled and obnoxious dogs. They have opinions that you must agree with, but very little experience or basis for their opinion. It's just right because they say so and you are wrong because you don't do it their way. Your results speak for themselves. That is one lucky dog, well behaved, very happy. Lots of different types of training so he gets all kinds of experiences. Their dogs are trained in 6+ different skillsets. Really. NOT. I was really impressed that you go to that length to give him mental and physical stimulation like that. I train in a field full of elk almost every day. Those 100 hundred elk weigh over 700 lbs and could care less about clickers or the which P or R was used. They will just stomp a dog to death and I have seen it happen to other people's dogs. I also use an e-collar as a safety backup on that field. It's like an airbag. If it's not used I don't even notice it's there. But I want it in my car. And hell yes it hurts when it goes off. Ask anyone that's happened to. Then ask if they wish it wasn't in the car. I rarely comment on videos, but had to on this one. You have done a wonderful job.
Wouldn't conditioning the dog to do commands by treats throughout its adulthood make the dog rely on treats after every trained behavior? Looking to get a Mali.
That's a good question, because the answer is not that straight forward. The quick answer is that we actually conditioned to dog to think that we have an endless supply of treats. Even when we don't have any, the dog will still do the obedience thinking it will just get a larger check with a bonus later (because we are good for it). Here is the result of this system. She is trialing with no collars, no treats or reward of any type and a field filled with distractions and people. ua-cam.com/video/kE1cS07gbo8/v-deo.html
for a while I have wanted to adopt a Malinois and I have done some research. most people recommend that for this breed you be an experienced dog owner. I have had dogs all my life but they have been smaller breeds, all high energy dogs. should that still be a reason to reconsider getting one?
Get in contact with a Malinois rescue, they will will determine if you are ready for one of their dogs and then match you with one that will have the highest chance of being with you forever. Good Luck!
The Cinema Pot yea, I've want to get a malinois too, for security when I'm living an apartment after completing my extra 2 yrs in a university, but I've did some research about them, saying that they thrive in working and it's for people that are willing to dedicate there time for them. And having a dog with high energy is probably not the best dog for me especially if I'm looking for a first dog, maybe an American bulldog is probably the best choice for me.
I see this is from a year ago and just wondering which way you decided? They can be very headstrong and one must be a confident handler, not resorting to screaming, yelling, or other drastic punishments. Emotion doesn't belong in dog training and it's tough for many to do, but that would be my top tip. Consistency is the key and yes, they really do need to be part of an owner's active lifestyle that includes these dogs as part of your daily life with few exceptions...daily training and fun sessions and plenty of walks and socialization with humans and other animals...especially children (in rescue you may find a dog matched to your own lifestyle....not all as in any breed are high energy, but most of them are and in the wrong hands can bring out an aggressive side). Confident and firm guidance with appropriate punishment is the way to go or they will get very bored, naughty and potentially destructive. They need structured activities and lots of socialization!!

Unfortunately My step dad caged his Belgian malinois for the rest of her life
My favorite part of the video was 3:29 where the pup laid down and rolled over to dodge. Super graceful and agile.
Our puppy is cross breed with Akita , but so clever . house trained at 14 weeks . easy peasy .he is so clever .
Yeah all big dogs like this are, Labradors, GSD, Mallinois.. All happy to spend their time with you and learn new things.
I had one. He was retired police dog. He gave his life protecting my family from thieves trying to break in my house when I lived in South Africa. I still think of him even though it happened almost 15 years ago. He was family.
The dedication and patience to bring this Malinois up is beautiful 😭🙌🏻😍
Malinois is like a giant squirrel, so agile.
I know these people! Most genuine folks you'll ever meet. Miss you guys.
What a pleasant surprise!!! Brett, how have you been? Are you on FB or instagram? We miss you, too!
@@MarkandTreat Unfortunately not, I was wasting too much time on there! Of Course now I'm doing it on youtube, but whatever.
So cute. Our Malinois came from the shelter. We got her when she was already 5 years old. Now she is a Film star, too. :)
That's so cool, you guys are awesome for taking in an older dog!
edufilm was your mali in movie? wow.... I watched Max 1 and 2, and all other films that featured dog...
This is fantastic that you got a dog like this and gave it so much interest and enjoyment in its life. Wow what a great dog well done. : )
Thank you, the dogs keep us active and make us happy in return.
Beautiful dog though.
This is giving me puppy feels 🧡😭 I love my Mali so much 🧡🧡🧡 best dog to train and cuddle 🙌
LOL, We must train first so we can cuddle!
Yeah my pup is not much the cuddler lol
great dog.
Thank you!
Adrianne Bez the best part is that the owners are taking care and giving regular excersice. Some owners are busy on their cell phones.
Adrianne Bez I thought it was a German shepherd wow they look alike
KatieLove
Adrianne Bez yep belgians are great
Love these animals. They are not for owners who want to just chill. They are workers- loyal- and incredible in the right hands. ❤️❤️❤️
I just put my Mal of almost 16 years down. My heart is so broken at losing my best and most faithful friend ever! You need lots of devotion to have these dogs. Best dogs ever!!!!
We have one!- The energy level is beyond belief.
I tip my hat...
You clearly know what you're doing.
The two people who disliked this video must be very unhappy people.

Loved your video! She's your Star Child! You poured your heart into her as if she was your baby girl. You guys knew what you were doing and Baby Girl is the proof. Wonderful work Team!
Such a happy, beautiful pup! Y’all did an amazing job raising this gorgeous, hard-working doge!
What a great owner with continuous efforts and what a great dog!!!
I loved this video! I just rescued a GSD/Malinois mix and he's been a handful but so easy to train. Great dogs if you have the time!
Thank you!
TIME is the key word!! I LOVE MINE!!
- Love her strutting when walking next to the wall!❤❤❤
They are adorable as pups.
Absolutely impeccable training and editing.
Thank you! Much respect for all of the money, time, and effort behind this video
I love seeing the dog wag his tail and always walk alongside with you. It just shows how much respect and love the dog had in you.
Precious!
Greetings from Brazil.
Why does everybody all the sudden want a Belgian malinois?? They are not an easy breed to take care of.
Who wants easy? 😊 kids are way more difficult to raise
@@onthefence1492 yeah but it's not easy to walk a dog 2-4 miles every day. And that's on the low end.
@@talaverajr391 Walking 2-4 miles a day doesn't do much for a Mals energy level. Kick a tennis ball for 4 hours everyday, then take for a hike/walk. When ya get home, kick the tennis ball again :)
Equivalent energy of a Border Collie... Agree...do your homework!
got one in 2016, saved him from a bad breeder, he had a bad skin condition, but we fixed him in a few months, best decision ever, he is an amazing dog, a great companion, a very well trained guard dog and has a family who loves him and gives him as much active time as possible
Beautiful well mannered Malinois
What a beautiful pup!
Beautiful video.
It's amazing to see how much dedication went into this dog since all showed clips include mental stimulation, activities and very diverse and sometimes demanding training, so basically everything this breed needs.
The result is a beautifully raised well tempered dog!
The more I see about these dogs, the more respect I have for the people that train them.
This is how a perfect way of raising a very healthy dog:
- Excercise
- Training
- Vacation
- Playtime
And this video is a perfect example. You both a great parents to your dog. Thank you!
We just had 8 of these beautiful and protective dog's!🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Wish I had time and skills to work with Malinois like this. Such a great video👍👏👌
Wow! How amazing to see such a good inspirational training video with positive reinforcement and reward based training. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for being a wonderful owner
I have two mals myself, I miss the puppy days but they are so smart. My dogs never have been on a leash I trained them to always be at my side and they go everywhere with me! Mals gotta be the most intelligent breed on the planet! Loving, loyal, and protective
Just got a 2 month old one. Can't wait to make these memories and I'm only two days in 😁

If you live in county yard, rural areas, Malinois could be one of the best animal companion that you could ever want. They can hunt, protect, play or just simply lying near you. Fantastic little beast!
I recently lost my Dutchie. It was so sweet seeing your Mali and your close relationship; it was a comfort for me. Thank you!
So sorry for your lost, they are never with us long enough =( Thank you for watching and commenting!
You guys must be proud owner!
Epitome of the perfect dog owners
Enjoyed this journey so much! Thank you for sharing, wishing the pets and their parents happy bonding.
This little guy is smarter than some people I know. And they give you unconditional love.
You just can’t beat a mal I got one in my lap sleeping as we speak.
“Will work for food”
What beautiful & well trained pup!
That is a great two years for you and your Mal! Great job!!!! Thanks for sharing
I have a Belgian Malinois.
She’s a crazy one alright. xD
I just wanna say thank you. I’ve been on the look out for a consistent training method for a while. Your method of training showed in this 5 min vid. I took what you were doing and applied it to my own situation. After a month of non stop consistently training I am proud to report that my wife is now trained and obedient. Thank you ❤️
LOL!
😭
I actually laughed out loud, was not expecting the ending!
Great to see these excellent owners giving a Malinois all the stimulation, exercise and socialization they need.
Best breed of dog I've ever had! Loyal and very smart !
LOL seeing someone else have verbal cues in Mandarin :-)
I love women that love dogs
The effort and energy they put into this video alone shows how much they love this dog. So much attention and playing and work. A malinois' dream! Beautiful video, and doing these things is my dream! Thumbs up, thank you(:
Thank you!
Awesome dog tho, love him to death.
you can start training anytime!! don't be afraid to put yourself up for the task
Great work!!!!!
Thank you!
The best dog, and he never saw a treat for doing anything right. They work out of respect and love.
They really are the most beautiful dog! The bond is so amazing!

Beautiful pup I bet you give him an amazing life
Thank you!
Wonderful! I had a German shepherd with that kind of drive. Great fun -- wish I was still young enough to bring up another one.
Tried to train my pup but she was more interested in the treats and other dogs to learn the commands and got kicked out of dog training school lol
I think you need to find a trainer that uses motivational methods like FOOD to train your pup. Dog that is highly interested in food is very very easy to train.
I'd recommend any of the Michael Ellis videos on the leerburg.com website. They have trained many working dogs for different careers.
Patience
koolerpure , I have to agree about the treats! My male puppy was house trained in about a day but I say 2 days once he knew he would be rewarded for going potty outside. It was golden from then on. Treat training. I trained my girl back and down on Halloween 🎃 night! Treats are great for training.
I can't even walk my dog on a leash without him choking himself.
If you can have food readily available you can easily train your dog not to do that. There’s a bunch of videos on here to guide you! 😁
Wonderful, thank you! I cared 12 hours a day my property COVID a Mali, best awesome dog Willy!
To be a responsible Mal owner you need to invest the time and attention that this owner has. Well done. Thank you for sharing this wonderful snap shot of your pups first two years.
Thank you for watching and commenting, It's a good thing we enjoy spending time with the dogs, because it is a lot of work!
That's wild. Thank you!!
This has been one of my favourite vids for years! Love it thanks!
Thank you for the support!!
What a beautiful film. I have two Huskies one is just one year, so just trying to train her. You are an inspiration bless you all.
These dogs have a drive like no other dog. Ask me how I know.
how do you know?
for a while I have wanted to adopt a Malinois and I have done some research. most people recommend that for this breed you be an experienced dog owner.
Man I love watching malinois work. So much energy. If I had the time to dedicate toward training one like this I’d definitely get one.
ohhh i love the girl, she's so dedicated and they look cute😍
