The glitch at 5:34 is my messed up B footage of the feeding needle. The clip was supposed to show how it's hollow, but somehow only a single frame shows. So don't worry, you're not missing a secret message or anything ;)
Hey I just got my first albino Darwin carpet python and I'm not really sure how to tell when hes about to shed as it's super hard to see if his eyes are cloudy or not do you have any idea how to tell when an albino python is in shed? I would appreciate some advice.
Thanks Clint! If you ever stumble across a sub-adult or adult female I would totally make room for another ;) The hatchling you texted me though was super cute!
I have never had a reptile and this channel has really helped me educate myself. I'll most likely never have a reptile for a buddy but this channel is so interesting.
that's what I thought when I first saw this but in the future I was like "YOU KNOW WHAT I LOVE SNAKES THEY ARE SO CUUUUUUUUUUUUTEEEEEEEEEE I WANT ONE NOW"
I would add a mister bottle to that list if you keep species with humidity needs, and on that same note there are temp guns available with a humidity gauge as well. Great vid!
@@AuroraExotics they actually have a few green tree pythons that requires heat and humidity and they keep those in a closet where it's more warm and they can keep the humidity up. So like you said it depends on the species, which is why it's important to do lots of research on the species of snake someone is wanting to purchase 😀
Hey, great videos. I’m a veterinarian (including for sneks), the feeding needle you refer to is more specifically called an olive tip cannula. We more commonly use them to flushing blocked lacrimal ducts, but yup, very useful for lots of applications. It takes a little hunting around to specifically find the olive tip, but I HIGHLY recommend these over the easier to find blunt tips--we’ve seen and had to deal with accidental injuries from the blunt tips in the hands of owners not familiar with tissue handling. Also, in regards to using chlorhexiderm, it is VERY important to dilute it waaaay down so that the diluted solution is just barely a light sky blue color. It is NOT a better disinfectant at higher concentrations, but can irritate healthy tissue. This stuff will totally strip skin oils, so it’s useful for cleaning any skin wounds (ie, like a bite from live prey) before applying the polysporin ointment, but NEVER full strength or anything close to it. It’s also a good idea to keep it away from eyes, (and very important in non reptile species) but is very good for swabbing the inside of the mouth in snakes with bacterial issues in the oral cavity. Again, always diluted to about 2%. Last, I also really like dispensing some of the tiny little gel tubes of probiotics for reptiles that are stressed, sick or otherwise not eating. We’ve had very good luck with it restoring the normal micro flora of the gut (which is usually provided by their prey), plus the good bacteria produces B vitamins, which are an excellent appetite stimulant. We use the olive tip cannula for that, too. Thanks for the great videos!
I really appreciate having you and Clint’s Reptiles on UA-cam. You are entertaining but don’t hold back the actual science and data. Much love your way! P.s. I got my first ball python this week. I banana cinny and he just ate his first frozen/thawed meal tonight. I feel like a proud father
I’m so glad she mentioned this because I’ve been thinking about this before I get my first snake because it can get too cold where I live if the power was to go out. I wonder what you would do if your house gets too hot due to no power???
Perfect list! I would add a mister for those with tropical species. I have a Brazilian rainbow boa and my exoterra gallon size misting bottle is a life savor. I used those non electric warmers when I brought my BRB home from an expo. It was a chilly day in the 60s and I taped a warmer to the bottom of a shoe box sized bin with a plant and hide in it so he could feel safe and warm on the long drive home instead of that deli cup they all come in.
Along with the Polysporin, I recommend having Betadine on hand! Like Polysporin, it's good for wounds, and I would argue easier to use? My corn snake escaped her enclosure over two years ago while my parents were looking after her (I was away from home for a couple of days) and after 5 weeks, we found her outside and "capturing" her was a tricky task because of the location (on our front deck, trying to sneak away between two planks of wood), and she suffered a few minor scratches. I got her Betadine, mixed it with water (can't remember how much of each, that's the only time I've had to use it for reptiles), and basically just put her in this tub for roughly 15+ minutes every day. Each time she shed, her wounds basically disappeared and now you could never tell she had any wounds.
I know you already talked about it in another video but just to reiterate, the Temperature control plug thing for the heat mat is a must to control the heat mat temperature. Also this seems obvious but a separate container you can house your snake in during deep cleaning their enclosure or treating the enclosure or whatever else needed. And also a container to put them in, in case you need to transport them to the vet.
A couple of additions... 1) If you're using a lamp as a heat source, keep an extra bulb around. They'll always burn out at the most inconvenient times. 2) Ivermectin shampoo(particularly if you don't have a preventative mite spray). This can be diluted and used to kill mites if you notice them. As a python guy, I like to have Q-tips for swabbing it over heat pits as well(I never liked the idea of tweezers). 3) Have some good literature related to your species available. If you are a green tree python person, "The More Complete Chondro" by Greg Maxwell is essentially a bible. Memorize all the information you like, but it never hurts to have it compiled. 4) I used a little notebook to keep track of feedings, egg-lay dates, hatch dates, and any other little handy notes. 5) Hand sanitizer. Salmonella risk from reptiles truly is minimal, but I always kept it around my quarantine enclosure, to avoid spreading anything from a quarantined animal to anything else(always work with quarantined animals last anyway). But cleaner hands never hurt anyone. 6) A pillowcase. These are the easiest-to-get snake bags for when you need to transport or ship a snake. Larger species will obviously require something more serious, but anything smaller than a good-sized BCI is pretty easily accommodated.
I love anakes and reptiles and all animals really. This channel is helping me educate myself for when I am older and able to get a snake. Keep up the good work!!! 🐍🐍🐍💚💚💚

I plan on getting a Ball Python since that was the first snake I've ever held. My dad had BPs while I was growing up so they have a special place in my heart :3
Just wanted to say thank you for all your videos I just inherited a baby ball from an unfit owner and have never owned one of my own you guys help a lot more to snakes than I first thought.
Watched this video last night and 30 minutes after power goes out due to the hurricane. Thank goodness I watched this so I knew to get hand warmers for our scaly friends living inside. This has been super helpful!
Hey snake discovery! After a discussion between myself and a few friends I was wondering if you could do a video on your thoughts on inbreeding snakes to get new or rarer morphs? My apologies if you've already done one of these and I've just not found it!
Echo Noir don’t take my word for it and you should do some extensive research on this but I’ve heard that inbreeding for 2-3 generations is okayish and shouldn’t cause any health issues but once you pass 5 gen of inbreeding you start getting health issues. But don’t just take my word for it, you should do some big research on it to be sure
Ive entertained the idea of getting a pet snake in the last few years, but i was always worried that itd end up having to be a giant if i wanted something unique. Watching your channel has shown me just how different even species im familiar with can be. I live in Michigan, and Ive had plenty of run ins with garter snakes my whole life, but i never knew they could be so beautiful like Fatness and the red sided you guys have. Its really been so educational and I love watching your videos to see what you have to teach us all. I wish i could have you guys out for my kids birthday someday, but alas, too great a distance. Still, thank you for all you do to help educate us all. I appreciate it a lot and i know the future generations will too. :)
Im a CVT, I don't work with exotics, but I LOVE Chlorahexadine! We sometimes use it as a pre surgical scrub on lighter colored animals as Betadine stains light colored fur. Its awesome stuff!! and it smells amazing! lol
Thanks for showing off the heat packs! I live in an area where the power tends to be knocked out by storms a lot and I hadn't gotten a plan together yet for power outage (got my first snake less than a month ago) so this really helped me to get ready for that, thanks!
Thank you soooooo much for posting that video I’m trying to convince my parents to let me get a snake and I had no idea that you would definitely want those items thank you🐍
I have to say you thank you. I subscribed to your channel and I really pulled up my level of English ( I'm from Belarus ) . And of course I want to say you have a fascinating and interesting , informative content and I really enjoy watching your videos . Thank you :)
Great list! I highly recommend getting a good pair of feeding tongs (I use a pair of hemostats actually). I started with a cheap pair of tongs, but when your ball python needs to be entertained with a dancing rat before he will eat and your tongs keep dropping the rat, well it is kinda frustrating!
I have two snakes, a 10 year old ball python and an 8 year old Colombian red tailed boa (both are male) Your videos have been so educational to me! Even after all of these years of owning snakes, I never knew about that cool temp gun! Thank you so much for this channel. You defiantly have a new subscriber and a new fan!
Roses are red Violets are blue I have a noodle What about you? My noodles name is Cosmo He’s from the stars He’s Rainbow in sunlight But brown in the dark He’s just a baby, not even a year He’s almost 3 feet But will be around 4 He will live to be 20 and maybe some more My snakes name is Cosmo What about yours? But there is still one mystery! What breed is Cosmo?
Eva Geiskopf Hmmm... my first guess was a retic, since the dark ones can get iridescent in the sun. But they get way longer than four feet. Is Cosmo a sunbeam snake, then? I have no noodle of my own officially. I got a ball python and gave him to my friend to raise for breeding. I secretly hope that someday, once he’s transitioned to frozen-thawed, my mom will let me take him home. He gives me so much stress, but I miss my little Corvus when I’m not around to keep an eye on him!
Eva Geiskopf Hmm. Ball pythons aren’t usually iridescent. Maybe a king snake of some kind, but those are usually more black than brown. I don’t have a clue! 😅
Chopsticks. Always keep a reptile-specific pair of chopsticks on hand. I know you said that snake tongs last forever, but I have had THREE pairs of them (I even got expensive $25 ones after the first two broke) break on me. The best part is that only one of the three actually broke while feeding... I've found that chopsticks are an excellent backup if your tongs end up breaking, or if they go missing. Just pick up a few extra pairs next time you go to an oriental restaraunt. Very useful!
Really?? Mine too!!!! I’m getting a male one, named Ramen. And I’m getting him in FEBRUARY!!!! So I have 5 months to get ready, and do my research. I’m SOOO excited.
Dog Playz Maybe they don’t hav the resources or the money. Just because you think something is cute don’t mean you should immediately get it. That’s actually dangerous and put the animal in danger when you impulse buy.
Hey Emily thank you do much for making this video because my mom said she'd get me my first snake for my bday on July 16th so I need to know everything I have to beforehand, and thank you so much for making this channel to educate others about reptiles, you are one of the reasons I finally asked for a snake I've wanted one for a long while now but now thanks to you and other snake educators on UA-cam I finally have the confidence that I'd be able to take care of one well, so next month I'll be getting my very first snake, a female western hognose, thank you
I thought you would say: "The first tool we recommend every snake owner has an hand would be a snake-" I really hoped for it, but then came the -hook! xD!
For any Australians out there, the most common animal safe/not irritating cleaner in Australia is called F10. Not many pet owners know about it but it’s definitely worth it if you have multiple pets
I just want to say this video helped me a lot! I haven't any resource like this when I was researching ball python care for my new pet and I got almost all of these before I got my snake!
Hi, Could you make a basic *need* to have for most colubrid snakes? Like heating pad/tapes Lights and Mouse supply? Or how to set up/build an enclosure for the first time? Thank you for the amazing vids^-^
Please release it! Keeping wild animals is cruel, and often illegal. Not to mention that it likely has parasites. Please convince him to let it go and get a captive bred snake after extensive research.
I don’t have any snakes or reptiles whatsoever BUT I enjoy Emily’s videos so much I binge watched them and watch every new video just because I like to learn about as many animals as I can and I just enjoy seeing her dealing with her snakes because she is just an awesome human being and I love her snakes they are so unbelievable gorgeous 😍
Great video guys! I love your vids and you make me really want a snake, but my mom won't let me get another pet (I have a bearded dragon) and my dad lives in an apartment, but my dad really wants a snake, and when he moves to a house, we'll get one!
Great video! I never even thought to get a little dust pan like that for cleaning out cages, that will save me a lot of trouble. So close to 500k subscribers!!!
She has a video of her letting a few snakes strike her and one latch on so that she can show how to safely remove the snake that is latched on, and she doesn't even flinch when they strike. Something tells me she is fearless.
Every new snake/reptile keeper seems to go through the same process. At first you're nervous around them, they're nervous around you because you're being twitchy, you get bit a few times, realize it's not anything to be afraid of, you get used to it and nervousness/fear is gone. Secondly, snake body language tends to be fairly easy to read once you know what to look for. If a snake is being defensive you then know to be careful, perhaps use a hook as shown in video, and it's fine from there. For this reason, it's recommended you don't start with anything that gets fairly large. You want to be reasonably experienced before working with snakes that are strong enough to hurt you if they land a good strike. Now, venomous snakes are a different story of course.
She isn't scared but logical and cautious. For example she doesn't feed her larger snakes alone. 2 people in the room at all times to ensure no accidents or overpowering occur
@@stoutlager6325 you called me out lol, whenever i pick up my adult bp im worried that im hurting him because often ill feel my finger catch on one of his scales. He doesnt seem to mind, but it still worries me
Thanks for the great ideas, Emily! I watched this video by remarkable coincidence the day after a four-hour long power outage. I was just about to haul my boa's enclosure to place it next to my gas-log fireplace when the power was restored. I'm going to order some of those heat packs and be prepared for next time. You are one sly little fox.
Hey Emily I'm a complete beginner and I don't know what kind of sneakers should get to start out with I'm really scared because I've never even handle us make before and maybe if you could do a lesson in Kentucky Maybe I could get to know a little bit more... I watch your videos all the time to try to learn how to take care of them but I just don't think I can do it by myself I'm scared. ............... Please like so Emily can see this.
Faith Stanley If you want a snake that you can handle without fear, you can't go wrong with a ball python. Typically, they're pretty docile and they aren't inclined to bite you.
If you like Kenyan Sand Boas, some things about them that are mom friendly. They can't hiss, no sound at all. They move slowly. Males stay under 2 foot their entire lives (most around 1'6"). Most never bite (anything with a mouth can bite though, Sand Boas have tiny teeth btw), and, if they are scared, their defense is to wiggle like an earthworm does when it is freaked out to get you to drop it. They are very gentle, don't make noise, don't take up much space, easy clean up, don't need a lot of attention. Just the best! (Cons: Live a long time, and you will have to dig them out of their bedding any time you want to see them).
Any recommendations on a snake breed to have as your first snake. I’ve never owned one before and I’m still trying to do research on what I should get.
You might want to check out Client's Reptiles; he has several videos on that subject, as well as loads of individual species videos with pros, cons, and other things that are nice to know. Congrats in advance on your future danger noodle! =D
And thankyou..I watched a video of yours about snake bites. I'd never known about tagging so I always thought that when they bite you ,ya have to peel them off with a card. But I'm much more confident after seeing you hold that snake while he was biting you and you continued to make the clip then took him off and showed us. Thankyou.
Another amazingly helpful video! I'm redoing basically all of my snake setup, so this is timely. I was looking for a reliable temp gun, and this is perfect!
Why, is someone such as myself, who can't even go into the reptile house at the zoo, watching these videos? Interesting, but my idea of an exotic pet is my hedgehog

That's also why they usually keep humidity boxes in the enclosures. Especially when the snake is goes into blue. 😀
True! But many tropical species need the ambient air to be higher in humidity to keep their lungs healthy. :)

I concur on the mister bottle. It is easy peasy way to quickly raise humidity short term or saturate a snake who will shed soon
what about the misses bottle?

Just wanted to say thank you for all your videos I just inherited a baby ball from an unfit owner and have never owned one of my own you guys help a lot more to snakes than I first thought.
I’m think about getting a snake soon so this video is going to help me a lot on keeping my snake healthy.Thank you!
Those big feeding tongs are INTENSE!!! They’re like military style sock grabbers, as seen on TV...LOL
Said it like a million times but gonna say it again I love you’re vids!
Watched this video last night and 30 minutes after power goes out due to the hurricane. Thank goodness I watched this so I knew to get hand warmers for our scaly friends living inside. This has been super helpful!
I don't have a snake, or thinking about getting one, but I just like your videos so here I am!
Same!
And here!
I have had my snake about 3 weeks now and i never thought about any of these!! Thank you so much
So I’m thinking of getting a snake and this video was so useful thank you! And I’m watching your other vids to get more info on snakes!
Ugh she’s just such a breathe of fresh air. Love her.
Jacob Woodward
She’s said up to 8 generations :)
Good point about preparing for a power outage. I didn't even think of that! Need to keep everyone warm.
I laughed so hard when you said snake hooks double up as a back scratcher😂😂
Thank you soooooo much for posting that video I’m trying to convince my parents to let me get a snake and I had no idea that you would definitely want those items thank you🐍
If you’re trying to convince them I’m pretty sure the channel “Clint’s Reptiles” has a video on that
I have to say you thank you.
I have two snakes, a 10 year old ball python and an 8 year old Colombian red tailed boa (both are male)
Your videos have been so educational to me! Even after all of these years of owning snakes, I never knew about that cool temp gun! Thank you so much for this channel. You defiantly have a new subscriber and a new fan!
Please please do a video California on red-sided garter snakes, I'm really interested in them and believe you got some recently.
Insane Dreamer I am hoping to get one this year once they wake up from hibernation and breed again! (Captive bred! No wild noodles for me!)
Roses are red
Violets are blue
I have a noodle
What about you?
My noodles name is Cosmo
He’s from the stars
He’s Rainbow in sunlight
But brown in the dark
He’s just a baby, not even a year
He’s almost 3 feet
But will be around 4
He will live to be 20 and maybe some more
My snakes name is Cosmo
What about yours?
But there is still one mystery! What breed is Cosmo?
Eva Geiskopf Hmmm... my first guess was a retic, since the dark ones can get iridescent in the sun. But they get way longer than four feet. Is Cosmo a sunbeam snake, then?
I have no noodle of my own officially. I got a ball python and gave him to my friend to raise for breeding. I secretly hope that someday, once he’s transitioned to frozen-thawed, my mom will let me take him home. He gives me so much stress, but I miss my little Corvus when I’m not around to keep an eye on him!
Morgan Gobin No, but you were close! He’s brown in the dark sunbeam snakes are black!
Eva Geiskopf Hmm. Ball pythons aren’t usually iridescent. Maybe a king snake of some kind, but those are usually more black than brown. I don’t have a clue! 😅
Morgan Gobin Aw I though I made this easy lol, Anyway I could give you a better clue, He’s a Boa constrictor.
Columbian rainbow boa?
Oh wow I’m very early for this. Very helpful information now that I have a new pye balled python.👍
Warriorcats 1101 piebalds are gorgous!
This is the prime example of educational and fun I love this channel
OMG my mum is letting me get a corn snake yay I’m also gonna buy every thing u shown in the video btw I love your vids
Really?? Mine too!!!! I’m getting a male one, named Ramen. And I’m getting him in FEBRUARY!!!! So I have 5 months to get ready, and do my research. I’m SOOO excited.
I bought a small shop vac to use when we do a full cleaning of our enclosures...great buy!
OMG I HAVENT EVEN WATCHED THE VIDEO YET BUT I SWEAR IF THATS A BABY FALSE WATER COBRA IM GONNA LOSE IT SKSKSKS
Edit: *OMG I NEED IT* ❤❤❤❤
haha u really think it cute why no just get one in real life
Dog Playz
Maybe they don’t hav the resources or the money. Just because you think something is cute don’t mean you should immediately get it. That’s actually dangerous and put the animal in danger when you impulse buy.
@@rexly1373 alot of space and very expensive but one day I'd like one

Yw lol. Just realized all the typos in my comment tho.. rip. 😂
Hey Emily thank you do much for making this video because my mom said she'd get me my first snake for my bday on July 16th so I need to know everything I have to beforehand, and thank you so much for making this channel to educate others about reptiles, you are one of the reasons I finally asked for a snake I've wanted one for a long while now but now thanks to you and other snake educators on UA-cam I finally have the confidence that I'd be able to take care of one well, so next month I'll be getting my very first snake, a female western hognose, thank you
I thought you would say: "The first tool we recommend every snake owner has an hand would be a snake-" I really hoped for it, but then came the -hook! xD!
I know this is off topic.. but your hair color is flipping gorgeous. And you're so beautiful!!
Am I the only one that saw the pic glitched in the vid around 5:34-5:35
Skai the sloth girl its actually a picture of the tip of the needle
Ya she is now a sloth
No your not alone
i saw the glitch
I don't own a snake I just like watching this and every day when I watch u I learn a lot more about snakes
Hey can you please do another Rex video
For any Australians out there, the most common animal safe/not irritating cleaner in Australia is called F10. Not many pet owners know about it but it’s definitely worth it if you have multiple pets
Yayaya
I love your videos 😀🐍
First:) yes finely
I just want to say this video helped me a lot! I haven't any resource like this when I was researching ball python care for my new pet and I got almost all of these before I got my snake!
Hi, Could you make a basic *need* to have for most colubrid snakes? Like heating pad/tapes Lights and Mouse supply? Or how to set up/build an enclosure for the first time? Thank you for the amazing vids^-^
This is a perfect video for me! My dad found a ringneck snake and my dad decided to keep it! Tysm!!!
Please release it! Keeping wild animals is cruel, and often illegal. Not to mention that it likely has parasites. Please convince him to let it go and get a captive bred snake after extensive research.
Thought there was a subliminal message at 5:33. Slowed it down and everything!
Protip you can also use temp guns to pretend you’re a spy.
*I am the snakey spy. I hiss at evil.*
Thanks to your channel I've made a plan for purchasing an egg eater and adopting/fostering nonvenomous rescues within 2 years
Ima new sub!
Jade Mayo welcome
Welcome jade mayo 👍
Thx
Welcome to the community!! We like to boop snoots and laugh at noodles, so you should fit right in!
honestly, saved this video to favorites so i can write down a list later and get some supplies. great video!
So close to 500k subs!!!
I always tap lightly on the glass of my tank when I'm going to feed my snake. She know when I have food and it works great!
Hey snake discovery I was just wondering if you ever get scared of the snakes
She has a video of her letting a few snakes strike her and one latch on so that she can show how to safely remove the snake that is latched on, and she doesn't even flinch when they strike. Something tells me she is fearless.
sum12stupid4u oh wow I like snakes but I get scared sometimes
He doesnt seem to mind, but it still worries me
Every snake owner should have a snake
I love this channel and the fact thats she always sooooo HAPPY. It even makes me happy 😊
I LOVE SNAKES!! I WANT ONE!!!! WHY MOOOOOOOM!!!
I don't think I'll ever have a snake because I don't have a lot of time, but I LOVE these videos, Im in love with snakes.
Any recommendations on a snake breed to have as your first snake. I’ve never owned one before and I’m still trying to do research on what I should get.
a cornsnake maybe?
Ham and Potatoes corn snakes
You might want to check out Client's Reptiles; he has several videos on that subject, as well as loads of individual species videos with pros, cons, and other things that are nice to know. Congrats in advance on your future danger noodle! =D
Cornsnake or western hognose
Ball pythons are good but they can be picky eaters
And thankyou..I watched a video of yours about snake bites. I'd never known about tagging so I always thought that when they bite you ,ya have to peel them off with a card. But I'm much more confident after seeing you hold that snake while he was biting you and you continued to make the clip then took him off and showed us. Thankyou.
I was catching frogs in my friends back yard and she called them gross. I don't get it. They were so cute!!
If you don’t know already I wouldn’t grab certain frogs with bare hands because skin is to salty for the frogs skin

Why, is someone such as myself, who can't even go into the reptile house at the zoo, watching these videos? Interesting, but my idea of an exotic pet is my hedgehog
These videos are so full of great information! I love Roger’s little black V on his head! Love from a reptile lover! 😄🐍
