I like seeing mistakes, adjustments you show when following store bought patterns. This helps me see what I can do when something is just not fitting the way it should. Thank you for showing everything!
I love that you show errors. That is how we all learn how to fix it. I’m here to learn. You always end up with a beautiful outfit and I love watching you and learning.
I appreciate your honesty. When you miss something you show us how to fix it without making a fuss over the problem. Showing folks of all ages that it is okay that problems arise (most of the time, in a way, that most folks could possibly come to the same problem) and you show it can be remedied in a truthful and efficient manner. Take a break, then come back and face the issue(s). Being brutally honest with ones self is a plus. Many live in a fantasy world, they give up without facing the problem and never learn from the process. We have young people out there that want to learn how to sew, they can learn so much from you. Thank you for being honest. You help present and future generations to actually sew but, also learn how to focus and work through their problems.
Oh thank you so much for your thoughtful words. Who knows how many years all of my videos will last on UA-cam, but I hope that future generations might be able to get some thing from them.
Optimistic Bust! My bust hasn’t been optimistic for at least 30 years 😂🤣😂 I’ve had that pattern in my hoard for a couple years now. I think it can stay there! 🤦🏼♀️😂 How you lowered those pleats and the top edge of the bodice was so skilful! The end result was worth the effort.
I'm definately adopting your phrase optimistic bust! I know you were being serious, but it made me chuckle. My bust has lost all it's optimism, gone past pessimism and straight to deep dark depressio! I need a super optimistic bra! 😂😂
It’s so helpful that you talk to us as you work! Wow, you are such a good seamstress! It was so amazing to see how you moved and adjusted the pleats in the bodice to accommodate your lower bust point!
The reason I enjoy learning from you is that you, like the rest of us, are feeling your way through the patterns to make them work for us. The figuring it all out is so amazing. That's where we truly learn how to fix what gets confusing. You are amazing at teaching step by step sewing. Tackling each problem as we come to it. Please stop beating yourself up and see what we do. An amazing teacher. ❤
Thank you for the very thorough pattern review. I will re-watch this video again when I attempt to make this pattern. Your sewing vlogs are always comprehensive and well done. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This video may be a little older than I’m watching, but I hope you see my comment that that is the cutest super fabulous dress. I love it. You look amazing in it. Thank you so much for all your videos you are, I really must say, one of the most wonderful sewists!!!! Thank you so much for all you do🥰😁🥰😁🌸♥️🌸🌺
I have started watching your tutorials and I just love the way you go about making a garment the little adjustments you make the little errors you make and have no worry about that either fix it or you can live with it and this is a type of sewing I would like to doso I am still binging if you read my previous comment on your tutorials and I just love them and I love that you say the same thing. Every single time you do not miss one step for us people fabulous.
When you put it out there it was the one i picked for all the reason that you came across. So glad it worked in the end, looks lovely on and now i know what to think about when i try it. Thank you for all your hard work. Love the sound of Yolanda. x
I love the dress. The fit is beautiful and I especially like the sleeves and the touch of lace. The dress looks beautiful on you and so comfortable. Thanks for all the hints and things to watch out for.
Thank you for showing errors. We all make them and learning when to start over and when to fix what you have is so important. I have learned so many things from you.
I have this pattern and have been trying to convince myself to make it. I am glad I watched this before attempting it. I would have not have ever figured out how to fix the fit issues
I love the dress and the fact that you can show us all the little things that can go wrong and how to fix them just getting back into sewing and sewn a few dresses and of course none of them are perfect but I'm still trying
Since my name is Yolanda, you can imagine that you naming your beautiful machine “Yolanda” just made my day . I love how you show errors. I learn so much from you and enjoy your process. Great job Marie. Can’t wait til next week!!
Anyone who sews has those, what was I thinking? Moments. I’m glad to see your human lol! Tfs it all helps. My rules for sewing are: you’re not in a hurry, and don’t get frustrated, it’s all a learning experience. ❤ your channel and think you’re super special!
Oh, it looks absolutely fantastic, Marie👍 Thanks for sharing all the obstacles along the way, it makes it more real. Just as you were saying that despite being in your mid fifties you wanted lace in your dress, I was looking through my bag of lace for my next project, and I'm in my sixties! Ladies, if we want lace we put in lace, whatever our age - and nobody's going to stop us! 😊 I always look forward to my weekly dose of bucolic inspiration! Thank you so much🙏
It looks great on you! Great job getting it to fit you. TFS your process ❣️ it was a little confusing at first but once you were done it all made sense in the end. Glad I stuck with it and that you did too💙
Your dress is beautiful. I have this same pattern but I haven’t sewn it yet. Thank you for sharing your process of making it. It will help me tremendously in fitting my bodice. Have a fabulous day🌸
Love the dress and the lace looks lovely ❤ it fits so well. You did the correct thing adjusting it and although beyond my skill I am totally impressed God on you! as we say in New Zealand 🇳🇿
What an amazing job, I've learned so much from your alterations to this dress. It's a gorgeous dress. Thank you Marie for making this and showing us your process.
Such a cute fall themed dress! Love the lace trim. I’d have to add a snap to the neckline, because of potential wardrobe malfunctions. As a primary teacher in an earlier life, it was my experience that kids often accidentally found ways to exacerbate this and any other potential wardrobe problem. (I could share stories, but won’t.🥴) I’m personally not a fan of wrap dresses for exactly this reason. 🤣 The floaty sleeves, the upper folds, the sash, and the skirt make this a comfortable and very soft, feminine looking dress. Congratulations on working through the hurdles to complete it.🎊
As you said “trials and tribulations “ are a part of sewing. Sometimes I get frustrated with certain patterns but I’m like you, I stick with it. I’ve learned to pay close attention on how the live model is posing. Sometime it hides certain aspects of the pattern which I didn’t see until I fit the dress on me. Awesome job on your part to make it a perfect fit. 👏🏻
Thank you Mercy! I need to keep reminding myself that it is the sewing journey and not the destination that's important. But I do like how it turned out 😊
You’re such I trooper! Before your videos I use to give up on the pattern and myself 😵💫I’ve learned many things from you but I feel most importantly I’ve learned to continue on find a solution and make it happen! Now I haven’t added anymore to the UFO pile! 😅 I’m currently working on a one shoulder dress by Cynthia Rowley and it’s driving me crazy trying to fix the top part so it be more modest. 🤦♀️🤪oh and that pocket situation happened recently on a dress I made! Can’t figure out why it does same as yours 🙄I will try your suggestion see what happens. Love how your dress came out ❤thanks for all your hard work 🥰
If you have wide hips like me and you make this pattern I think it will be flattering, just keep an eye on the hip measurement of the pattern and your actual hips to make sure that everything has plenty of ease
I am so glad that I found your video. I just bought this pattern and I’m planning to make a Christmas dress. I think seeing your modifications to the bodice may have saved me many, many tears. I’m a beginner sewist and I don’t know that I could have solved those issues on my own.
I love your style. I've learned so much from watching you create and explain. You're candid and thorough, an inspiration. Looking forward to your next project.
This dress is lovely, Marie! I agree that the pattern had a flaw in the bodice area but your persistence and patience paid off. This pattern has been sitting in an “unfinished” bin for a couple of years due to my confusion with that bodice and maybe my choice of chiffon fabric🤣 but now I may pull it out again. Thank you so very much for this video, can’t wait until the next one❤
I’ve watched this video twice. I wanted to refresh myself on how to line a wrap bodice. I love the lace detail. You look so very good in all your makes.
You always do an amazing job. You fixed their error. Dress is fabulous. I did get lost a couple of times with the moving of the pleats. I also thought I saw you cut lining for the bodice out of the pumpkin fabric and then I saw you use a plain white lining for the bodice. I guess I need to watch this again. Thanks again
Oh yes, I cut the lining out of the pumpkin fabric the first time, which did not fit right. I cut the lining out of white the second time which ended up on my finished dress. I know it's tricky
I love the dress. Glad you showed us the mistakes and the fixing. I love when you say armhole instead of armscye. I think it's a goofy sounding word and everyone pronounces it differently. Thank you for another great video.
Wow, impressed how you stuck with this pattern, doubt that I will purchase it! Life is toooo complicated to deal with darts adj , lengthen bodice???? But it turned out lovely on you and lace did add a cute detail
Hi Marie, you are right about the fit. I made it when the pattern came out and while it was a nice fitting dress the bodice was not the most comfortable thing to wear , my bust is 34b but i don't think it's the fit, it's something about the design of it.
I’ve made this dress and the bust height and overall front drape was good as is for me, however I am short, especially through the upper torso. I’ve always had a smaller/higher bust. After 46 years and 3 babies I finally feel like I don’t need to move the bust line up 😂. The only adjustment I had to make for the top was to shorten the waist.
Your dress is so darling. Suits you perfectly. Too bad about running short on fashion fabric. Pocket fabric was a good fix. Seam across the back gives the illusion of a yoke. Too bad you didn't sneak an inside pintuck across the other back piece to make them match and look intentional. It was a struggle, but you overcame the lowered bust saga. Huge win. I'd wear it.😁
Thank you for sharing your make including all the tribulations and adjustments. I tried to make this dress a few years ago and knew I needed to do an FBA straight away. After 3 toiles and a very messed up front bodice I called it quits. I did buy the pattern again in a sale later on (I’m in the UK so we don’t get sales as often as you guys in the USA) and resolved to try again someday. What a story. I’ve had this pattern in my stash (and fabric earmarked) for awhile. Just wondering, if one were to leave the left portion of the bodice (the one underneath) as is, splitting the bust in half, do you think that would work? Or would the seam line show through to the top side. It might help with the gaping during one’s wild, twisting ways. The dress looks great on you.
Hi Marie, I love watching your channel. I’m wondering if you could have added inches to the shoulder seams on the front of the dress to lower the cross over?
Hello, unfortunately that would not have worked because it has a fitted waist, and that would have pushed that fitted waist 2 inches longer... Have used that technique on other garments though. Depends on the design, sometimes it works well 😉
Why do these pattern companies make patterns for 20 year old bodies? Ladies of all ages deserve more. It's ridiculous to make patterns for a B cup 20 year old only, unless that's what you are. Good job fixing that problem.
I have to laugh whenever you veer away from the instructions or fabric recommendations, only because I am the opposite. As a beginner I have to do things by the book still. But it's nice to see someone change course !! I'm too nervous to do that yet
I’ve been enjoying your videos and watching them with great interest. I’ve decided to get brave and ask you a question. Is it possible to use quilting cottons to make this dress? I realize it calls for cotton fabric, but being new to quilting as I am, I am not sure these curtains will work with dressmaking. It would help me greatly to receive an answer from you. May you have a wonderful day.
Yes definitely use a quilting cotton. I think that that's very similar to the fabric that I used. Just make sure that you pre-wash it in hot water and pre-dry it in hot temperature to make sure that it's shrunk up, cuz most quilting cottons are 100% cotton and that could be troublesome if you don't. Good luck!
I like seeing mistakes, adjustments you show when following store bought patterns. This helps me see what I can do when something is just not fitting the way it should. Thank you for showing everything!

It has a sort of 1940's vibe. It may be the shape of the skirt. As always, it came out great and I think the fabric works for summer.

Hi Marie, I love watching your channel. I’m wondering if you could have added inches to the shoulder seams on the front of the dress to lower the cross over?
