- Sunny is a trans person living in Pakistan. She begs in order to survive. Others get by as sex workers or dancers. As an expert for transgender issues at the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Reem Sharif found a way to support her community.
Trans people in Pakistan are frequently cast out by their families and live in poverty. They can find safe spaces and a new family in special centers. Here, they do not have to hide and discover that they are not alone in their fight for survival and recognition in Pakistan’s conservative society.
Only around 10 thousand people of Pakistan’s population of 220 million are officially counted as members of the “third gender,” yet it’s estimated that the true figure may be as high as 300 thousand.

That is my question. Why all male to female?
In extremely misogynistic societies, its much harder for women to escape their social role than men. That’s why theres barely any visible FTM people.

Im a Pakistani born and raised guy. This documentary is both sad and equally positive, in that coming across transgender people in day to day life is a norm for most urban Pakistanis, as generally the community is openly welcomed at weddings and equally found on streets shopping and getting on with life. Attitudes will surely change with normalisation of the community taking up more responsible and professional roles. There is now likes of Dr Meerub and others who are well educated, articulate professionals braving their way into spheres once considered untouchable for the rest of the transgender or even LGBTQ community.
Eventually, we all need to love and respect other human beings for just that fact, regardless of their gender or personal life choices.

While it is difficult to determine the extent to which this occurs, it is possible that some individuals in Pakistan might identify as transgender to pursue same-sex relationships without facing the legal consequences of engaging in homosexual acts. Given the more accepting environment and legal protections for transgender individuals compared to those for homosexuals, it could be seen as a safer option.

Before arrival of colonial powers, trans people were highly respected in Pakistan as Sufi saints then colonials criminalized them
Sadly we live in a world full of prejudice and discrimination.. not just in Pakistan …yet we hope for a better tomorrow !
There is no prejudice here
I also struggle as a TransWomen living in USA. I grew up in Muslim community and that was even harder. So I left Muslim community, and adopted Hindu practice, and I have at least some respect from Hindus in America, but even the Christian people, as well as secular people, cause discrimination for my kind.
How are you struggling in the US?
@@ShakeDownStreet0714Are you serious? Have you seen your country?
By your name you seem indian to me
We’re talking as if transgender people are respected all over the world and only pakistan is prejudiced..
In America it’s safer for them tho
In India trangender people have special quota in educational areas to get education easily. Even many Indian states have enforced transgender workers and special rights for them. Not all countries are like Pakistan. We respect human beings as they are.
😂😂😂😂@@imfriedchicken
@@imfriedchicken that’s nice. Other countries should do that too
Don't tell us to accept transgender if they can accept themselves for there own true gender...
human dignify is the only thing that matters it belongs to everyone on this earth
they are normal human like us stay strong trans people & you are equal infact everyone is equal regardless of their religion, race etc.
And yet queers cannot accept themselves.
Don't women deserve privacy and dignity away from men in women's changing rooms? Why are men who pretend to be women allowed to remove women's dignity?
As opposed to those who even make unnatural Alliances putting devil in charge instead,, do you really believe dignifying is the key here 🙂
This was really really sad. But I think, not only transgenders are struggling in that country at the moment 😢
It is very sad that some should tell others who can be happy or not.
i feel so sorry for these women, the dserve to be treated as a human, all because there trans dont make thme less valuable if not there stronger than the average man there.
5:27 i meet her every single time i go to saddar and she is a charm! Such a nice person inside out always smiling and laughing. Love her! MAY GOD EASE PAINS OF OUR BEAUTIFUL BEINGS! ♥️
First of all I will like to say nice and educative documentary. And its just wowing me because Pakistan is welcoming transgender as a norm, I am from Nigeria who base in UAE but I know how my friends who is back home is going through alot of harrasment from people and no law to protect them. You know with this documentary my mentality about pakistani has change and I might likely visit this country for my next vacation. One love ❤
I'm from Nigeria too but I'm based in Nigeria itself.
In some parts of the south and south west ; LGBTQ people are being normalized. There are trans women opening boutiques and doing hairdressing around Ikeja in Lagos. We are even starting to appear in major podcasts and talkshows. I'm out to my coursemates at school and although there's religious bias , many of them tolerate me compared to 4 years ago when I was in secondary school.
It's Terrible for the south south and the north though 🥲, the north is still intolerant
The criminal sentence is still there though, it's hanging over our head . But things are changing now
@@littlesunshine4591 I met some trans women from Ikeja last Summer. They are open, with good careers. It was very interesting for me to be exposed to a whole network of open LGBTQ people in Nigeria. I do fear from their safety as their usually underprivileged or without strong skills and disowned. I hope Africa is more embracing.
It's ironic because traditional African religions across most of its cultures recognized bisexuality and no-gender identities often as spiritual conduits.
Peace and love from Ghana
@@littlesunshine4591 the North is most tolerant of sexual diversity than anywhere in Nigeria. Perhaps make some research about the queer (yan Daudu) community in the North
@@mandegandi3068 That was in the past , now Yan daudau are criminalized and I have a Yan daudau friend who was killed there. There's strict enforcement of the Shaira law in the north now and the insecurities have not make it easier.
“A Transgender person’s biggest worry is a place to live”, is that not something we ALL desire?? Like who wants to be homeless? That’s just silly.
May God bless the man who calls the trans her 5th sister. May the blessings of God be upon him and his family. Love ❤️ from India 🇮🇳
This is wrong , in every sense.encouraging this is wrong.God made you the way He wanted you to be.All you need is to love and accept yourself
This actually is positive, God made them transgender and needed them to accept being transgender and love themselves enough to get surgery.
How kind of you #accidental tran ally 🌚
@@littlesunshine4591 не сходи сума
@@littlesunshine4591bro you have to change the way you think there is no words like that in any realogious book
You don't have to agree with their status, but they do need the basic human rights & to be treated with respect.
He threatened people to accept them. Wow.
why would she threatening them when they don't even acknowledge her as a normal human being?
@ch_1_uy_U Exactly. Why would he threaten everyone?
Being Pakistani is not the problem but islam is the main reason for such discrimination because being gay or transgender is not acceptable in Islam
And the only punishment is death.
Scam caller, help find the missing women in India
What are you saying. In Islam we can’t support them but we must accept LGBTQ. Why are you telling people false information 💀 and it’s the sam in Christianity.
Same*
we re getting there... :) heads up and hope that you are the last generation to suffer of what you are. All beings are "normal" and we are all part of everything around us. Love to you!
You're delusional.
No it isn’t normal . Society today is so backwards
Is not normal ,normal is what cromosomes say
It's not normal to pretend to be something you're not.
@@apebass2215 exactly
Hijra have existed in the Indian subcontinent for centuries. All ancient civilizations had gay and transgender cultures that were normalized in various sects. Outright social acceptance is a modern day phenomena and something that will take society at large to accept.
Hello everyone to all my beautiful transgender people in Pakistan love from Philippines
it would be more appropriate if the you do documentary on
1. no Food in pakistan- all public money digested by military
2. beggar state pakistan- saga of 75 years
3. islamic jihadist state of pakistan
4. Pakistan -exporter of suicide bombers(only export)
5. Pakistan- who kept Osama bin laden safe and pakistan parliament calls osama a "martyr" after he was killed in US operation.
