I really hope the Raiders give O'Connell the opportunity to continue growing. The kid has size, a good arm, and he's already processing the game better than some vets.
He's actually blessed to have Jimmy and Brian as the QBs because they have no chance of being the starters ever again. So unless they're looking for a new QB next season I would say the job is his
I know he's not the first read but I hope he looks to get Tre Tucker involved he gets good separation in his routes consistently just off his speed threat alone
He will. I think hes trying to make connection with our vets first since he knows what they can do. It use to be all Meyers and now hes finally able to connect with D.A. I think after he gets Renfrow more involved and making connections with him, he'll work on getting Tucker involved more. The more players hes able to connect with the more defense have to prep. Cause they can cover, D.A, Meyers, Mayer and Jacobs. But they cant cover all 4 plus Refrow and Tucker without a chance of OConnell running for a 1st down or a 3rd and inches.
Aiden is the best thing that could happen to us we use this off-season to help out BOTH the offensive line and the interior Dline the raiders can 100% make the playoffs with this kid
I love to see the growth of Aiden and the OC needs to help him out about with his growth and stop throwing the call short of the sticks. Wonderful breakdown, thanks JT!
I thought this guy was just a throwaway backup, he's not. Even if he is a low level starter he gives us a chance to build a team if he keeps up his play.
I love this channel. Thank you for covering the Raiders, you really help me as a non-football person to understand how quarterbacking works. Your channel is illuminating and is giving me a much greater respect for the position.
Love the content 👌 Hopefully the raiders will build this roster around AOC. Build the right side of the offensive line and the defensive line as well. Add a stud cb and a few good lbs we're off to the races 🏁 😎
Homeboy Renfrow scored a TD in that game, I am glad he is still around. We were also still dragging the Penalty anchor around with us then. This season our Raider ship seems to be a steering past the nasty penalties we are so famous for in the past. Let us hope our discipline holds fast.
@@_WEsTWooD facts lol he had butter on his cleats. But like JT O'Sullivan said, they ran the rub routes earlier in the game, and on that final crucial one, Conley got in tyrells pocket, only for Tyrell to hit a u turn and beat him for the TD lol. Grudens way of coaching might be a lil to old school, but the guy knows football. He made several chess plays during his time with the raiders.
Related to all the bad concepts you didactically point out: I'd love to see AOC playing in a scheme that is tailored specifically for him. I think right now he is playing in a scheme that wasn't designed with him in mind (since he was the backup) and ran by an interim coach (since Mcdaniels was fired). Excited to watch him progress and maybe get a better shot next year if he keeps showing this potential
Idk if it was really there but Tucker at the top kinda wins on the go on that Adams one hander would be great to see them set those up as the season goes
24:00 JT, you think the rail on the second mesh play could be an alert against certain coverages? It looks like O'Connell never looks at the rail but checks the safety to that side to see the coverage shell than goes 1 to Adams. Great technique by Sauce to stay in Adams hip pocket through the mesh though
The most credit he deserves is he played against the best defense in the league and did way better than his first outing vs the Chargers. The Chargers defense was being gifted sacks by Douche Mcdickels and even then AOC did better in the second half in spite of Douche. The Jets defense motor didn't stop the entire game they forced a 3 and out with 1 minute left.
High end 3rd tier guy like Cousins might be AOC’s floor. The TD to Mayer, where he moves..he flashes a little Burrow there buying time with his feet. His footwork in general is dramatically better than Derek Carr’s. So stoked to watch his development. 👀 Great stuff, JT
Hey JT, really need an updated version of the Turkey Bowl playbook this year. Got a big game coming up this week and printing off madden plays isn't going to cut it. Keep up the great work!
I wish I had an inside track to being a coach. This would be a resource for me. Before the coaching/GM change for the Raiders, I was complaining about the lack of tempo and the team just not playing football. Was Carr really trying to certain receiver on each play? To please the coach or not, that is not playing the game. The team looks different right now. This video confirms ALL of my beliefs. Thank you.
My biggest knock on AOC at Purdue and going into the NFL was that he tends to pick one WR and feed them constantly whether it was a good idea or not. There were plenty of times where he eyed down one receiver on a play and then tried to force the ball through like double or triple coverage when he needed to look around to his 2nd read and so on, he’d have wide open guys. It’s how he through the pick against the Jets, was eyeing the WR too much. I hope he can get better with that, he has 100% shown a massive improvement in that area all ready, but still room to grow
I dont know if anyone else mention this but you said undrafted rookie, Aiden is a 4th round draft pick... you know I watched the whole thing since you say this at the very end... I love the Raiders and think Aiden has a very good chance to be a top 10 qb (Pocket QB) if he keep working like he has. More Importantly he can win with a good team ... he will only get better when he gets more comfortable as he has such a great tpassing arm with really accurate passes in tight windows... I love watching him & hope they let him fly this week vs the dolphins... we need him to throw if we stand a chance....
on the play where oconnell missed davante by 10 yards my guess would be it is because his timing is thrown off by being forced to release the ball earlier than intended because he is about to be clobbered.
One glaring thing for me is he doesn’t set his receivers up to get clobbered like Jg ! I’m all for feeding davante but he needs to get his other receivers more involved , when davante is doubled somebody is open
@@TheQBSchool I thought he played really well especially considering he lost Andrews early. Had 2 really good throws that juuuust missed being huge plays (odell early on and Bateman down the sideline). Thought he looked really good moving around the pocket too. Maybe I'm being biased though.
love this stuff on that last play: seemed like edge guy would have gotten there if Aidan lobbed it up there. love what I’m seeing from the kid, but you can see from the all 22 there’s some execution issues (expected with a new OC) that need to get cleaned up
His short throws are cooking. The Receivers have much more time to turn up field. I watched him just zip a little 5 yard pass and it was a tight spin hottie.
At 5:25 it looks like the corner turns his back and like Aaron Rodgers, Aidan’s all over that. But that is a tight window there because the angle is bad. Man, if that ball is six inches either side it’s probably an incompletion.
AO4'S biggest problem is his offensive line play. If given a good pocket he will excel. He does have to step into the soft spots in the pocket a little better if he is going to be strictly a pocket passer.
This is what happens when you tell a rookie QB that he "has to get the ball to Adams". I might agree with force feeding your best receiver if you are Payton Manning.
17:00 I don't understand why that LB wasn't recognized as more of a threat. He almost picked it off, maybe half a step short. Seems like a terribly risky, even ill-advised throw. But no, huh?
O connell should have thrown it to renfrow on the flat in the stick flat slant play he has open field in it if people pick up the block down field could of been a td
I have a QB question bro. Sorry if this the wrong spot. When a starter gets injured, is the entire playbook adjusted for the backup stepping in? If so, are there separate contingency playbooks for those occasions? Is it subjective to the personnel?
Love this channel and love the break down. I think AOC has a chance to become a very good QB. Maybe even a great one. 🏴☠️☠️🏴☠️🩶🖤JWB! RN4L! RwA! RNwA!
He's a good kid. He's smart, and has quick decision making. However, he tends to sit in the pocket far to long. I don't know if the coaching staff has told him to scramble or run or get outside of the pocket. He hasn't developed enough yet to be able to sit in the pocket. If he continues to sit in the pocket and especially against the Dolphins and Chiefs defense, he'll get destroyed. He will get sacked at least 5 times against the Dolphins and throw at least 3 picks. Someone has got to develop this guy. 8:438:37
Thank you to everyone who told me AOC was drafted. I misspoke. Have a good.
I really hope the Raiders give O'Connell the opportunity to continue growing. The kid has size, a good arm, and he's already processing the game better than some vets.
He should be qb one this year and for years to come RN4L RAIDERSSSSS JUST WIN BABY
Yep we have no other options and aren't getting a premium pick next year.
He is getting his try out right now.
lol no he's not...
He's actually blessed to have Jimmy and Brian as the QBs because they have no chance of being the starters ever again. So unless they're looking for a new QB next season I would say the job is his

I like that he chucks it away 10 yards from anyone instead of giving it up or taking the sack.
And it sure looks like he was hit at the tail end of when he was throwing it.
highest qb rating vs the jets than what mahomes, herbert, allen, and hurts had.. This simply means hes better
In good time my friend, don't fuckin put that voodoo on my boy.. You're gonna curse him
No, he's not lmao
I’m guessing you’re being facetious.
@@Oklahoma-Dreaming I hope so.. pretty disrespectful to jinx the rookie like that when he hasn't earned it
@raiderVSLvisalia AOC had a 72 qbr, second of the QBs I listed was Herbert at 65. Read a book

I love to see the growth of Aiden and the OC needs to help him out about with his growth and stop throwing the call short of the sticks. Wonderful breakdown, thanks JT!
I agree, and I know the OC is a rookie himself, but he has got to be more aggressive. Aidan is naturally an aggressive QB, let him be aggressive.
Worth mentioning our OC had only called one game before. He’s learning lol
Thank you for the AOC break-down may the force be with you my lord QB master of whispers
I learned a lot, glad I found the QB School.
I thought this guy was just a throwaway backup, he's not. Even if he is a low level starter he gives us a chance to build a team if he keeps up his play.
@riffmaster50 Or even if he ends up a high-level backup, it becomes a win-win situation.
I was waiting all week for this breakdown. Great work man

Always appreciate the Raiders breakdowns, JT!
That play you're talking about at the 23 minute mark, Jon gruden ran that play with Tyrell Williams vs the Texans / Gareon Conley. Love the videos!

Never seen a CB slip as much as Conley. I remember that play vividly

I’m dead, you’re still calling Renfrow the new guy 😂. Love your vids, keep it up.
Is there any elite trait you see in Aidan that they could think could build around him next year or we must look at a first round QB?
His setup and how he throws reminds me a lot of plunkett or hoss

I'm excited to think we may have found our qb . As long as devante gives him the thumbs up this could be alot of wins coming from this offense
