I feel like I'm loosing so much time of my life while watching others on social media. I'm not really that interested in what others are doing but still I can not stop watching reels, ig posts, random ytb videos, etc. It's stupid and sad. Thank you for this video. I already had times in my life when I almost didn't use my phone so I believe I can get there again.

As a person with ADHD, I have what I call my "distraction journal" which is exactly how you use a pen and paper by your side :) I use it for songs that get stuck in my head, sudden tasks I just remembered, all of my "I wonder ___?" stuff that pops up. It's a great way to acknowledge the thoughts and set them aside without feeling bad about it or anxious.

Mine must have been over 11 hours. I started listening to YT videos, audiobooks, podcasts as a way to get myself to do things like dishes but now it's basically non stop distraction whenever I feel some sort of resistance or negative emotion - immediately squish it with technological dopamine... Like I actually feel withdrawal for a few seconds if my phone dies while I'm on a UA-cam binge :( I'm still productive and "successful" at uni but it takes an increasing amount of adrenaline to get stuff done 10 minutes before the deadline

I deleted it as well, but I found that I will just switch to Instagram reels. Before that, I didn't open Instagram at all most days, but now I spend hours on the app every day. I also deleted the Instagram app from my phone for a while, but I actually switched to UA-cam Shorts. And because with every switch the content became worse and worse (or at least what the algorithm shows me), I also didn't just lose time by scrolling, but I also got angry/in a bad mood because Reels and especially Shorts will just randomly throw in crazy, misogynistic, far-right videos, where I get sucked into infuriating discussions in the comments. But I don't want to delete UA-cam as well because there are also a lot of very good videos I want to watch/listen to, some podcasts etc. Still trying to figure it all out.

same. The worst screen time of mine was 10 hours 7 mins. My average amount is 5-7 hours And I personally think that as a teenager and a student, it's affecting me a lot for my studies and other activities. I feel like I should focus on more on studies and stuff rather then spending most of my time scrolling. But I honestly don't know how to. I've tried so many apps that would help you limit your sreentime but it just didn't work and I also want to reduce my screentime down to 3 hours. I've been trying but it doesn't work so now I'm thinking that deleting those apps that I'm addicted to the most is my only option. ( which is Roblox, UA-cam and an app called addicted. ). So yeah. Wish me luck and pls give me some tips

A trick I used to reduce time spent on my phone and even the anxiety that turns up in the process is turning my phone off completely. At first it seems scary, but it's just an unfounded fear of missing out. It goes away very quickly though and even when you pick your phone up habitually it's way easier to just go "yeah, it's not working" and put it back down without any notifications popping up etc.

  • @aven_snow

To make the apple screen time app limits more effective you can set a passcode that you have to enter to dismiss it. You can set a random one then write it down in your notes or a piece of paper which adds that extra step that allows you to think before continuing. It works like the longer passcode to unlock your phone or the rubber band in a way.

Im a little sceptical. Because being on your phone is easy. I do get annoyed that I have school aps on my phone. Like that I have to be on 24/7. I have more of a problem with that then other phone usage. I still feel like that is kind of a choice on how to spend your free time. Not every hour of the day needs to be productive. Life is stressful so sometimes you do not have the energy to do anything else then to watch videos on interesting topics. However I do pick the videos I want to watch on youtube. I do not use the reel function and on instagram I only look at stories or post my own. I just dont care about others peoples lives. I do like to hear other peoples analysis or opinions and ideas. I find that refreshing.

I felt SO grounded and my self-esteem did increase, since I wasn’t comparing myself to anyone and not comparing my life as well.
the day I was supposed to download them I was rly excited, wondering I had missed. long story short, I ended up frustrated bc the first content that popped up, was entertaining at first, but the then it just went downhill lol.
I was trying so bad to find a video that I’d be like “it’s def worth the “effort” to keep using social media”.
turns out it wasn’t. I kept scrolling for abt an hour and felt like shit! while doing it and afterwards as well.
anyone out there who’s considering doing this, give it a shot! it could be one day, two days, whatever, JUST DO IT.
tip: be sure to include new tasks or hobbies.

    good luck

i actually find the screen time limits i've put on my phone by apple as very helpful. to me, it's just a form of checking your intention and being mindful. i also almost never hit "ignore for the rest of today" and instead opt for "remind me in 15 minutes". i also set automatic timers so that my phone goes into "sleep mode" between like 10pm and 8am and then also "work mode" from like 8 am to 3pm. it helps. sometimes i will choose to spend times on social media apps still, but im always consciously making that choice and not just doing it just because im not paying attention to the time. my problem is that my screen time isnt very accurate because i like to have my laptop or something on for a large portion of the day doing something like streaming music but it'll still count towards my screen time. it says my screen time today is on track to be 24 hours... yeah i can promise you that's not accurate at all lmao. i also like to leave my phone in my room while i go to other parts of the house to hang out with family or pets or whatever. the text messages can wait a couple hours!

Honestly there are so many creative/ more enjoyable things that I could be doing instead of spending time on my phone.
ALSO I totally relate about going on your phone before bed and then being like AHHH ITS 4AM WHAT HAPPENED. Low-key my phone has been ruining my sleep schedule and seriously affecting my mental health 😭
it’s like a catch 22 situation though because in today’s day and age, it’s incredibly difficult to live without using phones and social media’s somewhat, especially if your business is online.
These tips were great though, I think my worst ever daily screen time was like 13 hours?? I was like IM NOT EVEN AWAKE FOR THAT MANY HOURS lmao

Also a tip that has helped me massively is PUT YOUR PHONE WAAAAAAY AWAY FROM YOUR BED EVERY NIGHT. I’m talking other room if you really feel the impulse 😅

i deleted all my social media (except youtube, pinterest and telegram) more than two mounth ago. at first i felt very clean(?), i started understand i have so many tasks in a day that don`t even need internet. my next goal - watch less yt videos and walking without headphones.
to be honest i feel like my "addiction" from phone is slightly coming back, but thanks to this video i`ll try to do my best!
wish luck to all people who trying to uprove their life`s!

    My takeaways -
    - Don't break flow state from the things you want to be doing, don't get into a 'bad' flow state❤(my favourite tip from the video)
    - write down the list of tasks you want be doing on the phone
    - Note time you start using your phone, set limit
Thankyou, loved the idea of flow state!🙌

Great tips! Another one that might come in handy for some people: you can change the settings of your iphone to easily switch from colour to black and white (for me it's when I quickly press the off button three times in a row). The colours of all the different apps make them seem more interesting so if you put your phone in black and white you're less tempted to notice them and open them. Also scrolling through Social media is way less interesing when everything is in black and white.

On samsung you can only prelong usage of an app by 10 or 15 minutes. After that time you will have to go into the settings, find them and change how long you can use this app per Day generally. Not Just for a today. It is better thought out than in apple

This video was SO helpful, thank you! I'm not sure why it would work on me, but I can see that virtual tree being effective. Forest should sponsor you because it's the first I've heard of that app! I also love the idea about having paper next to you for a brain dump.... right now I tend to make a list on the notes app on my phone... which you can imagine doesn't work well for this problem 😂

My screen time app doesn't allow to dismiss the time limit right away. I have to go to the settings, change the time limit and go back to the app. It's the perfect antidote for just dismissing, because it forces me to think "do you really want to extend your time for today?". What I would like was to be smaller "sessions", like a warning every 5 minutes, so I knew how much time I was spending and how much I had left and to focus on what my intention was to open the app (if I have a 30min limit, I have 6 sessions) - just scrolling, going to get a recipe, trying to find someone...

I only have Twitter (I follow one account and check it for like 2 minutes a day for any upcoming world tours lol) and UA-cam. Oh my goodness that's where I have the addiction! I'm finding ways to reduce. But the days I have over 8 hours is me listening to scary stories (it's like listening to audiobooks, so does that count?) But I have stopped watching content that was not beneficial (for me rude language and such.) I'm trying to only watch things that bring something good for myself. I used to be so into my writing, and my UA-cam addiction affected my creativity and motivation... I was so inspired and happy then, so I'm working on "devolving" from UA-cam lol

I'm on Samsung and use child permissions to lock myself out of apps after oh-so-long passes, normally like 10-30 min to each social media app, 2 hrs for youtube, and 10 min for each shopping app. I had my dad set the password for it. The only things I have unlimited use for is my reading apps (KU, Webtoons, ect), google, and spotify for music.
