For anyone who wants an explanation: The reason breathing helps is because long breaths tell the body you're not in danger. Part of being in danger and preparing to escape is breathing rapidly to get as much oxygen into the body as possible. When you refuse to do that, that part of your brain realises "hold on... we can't be in danger then!" then calms down. Chewing some gum or a snack does the same thing --- you're not going to be casually eating when there's real danger nearby, so your brain calms down.
1. wellness: diversity diet/expose yourself to different fibers 2. combined: matching the activity you're doing with content related to that activity (eg: pair brainless activities like cleaning with binge watching tv, get ready in the morning/commuting etc. intentionally choose content in line with goals) 3. biological: breathing exercises 4. productive: utilize phone functions for productivity (3 apple features: 1. auto location 2. auto time 3.auto apps 5. mental: daily walks (after meals best) 6. fulfillment: be part of a community!! / daily random acts of kindness 7. creativity: embracing boredom (modern world is sensory overload!!)
Thank you! I was making dinner while listening to this and just needed a recap, and the chapter names were not describing enough to remember what the habits were.
your videos are like a warm hug and a punch in the estomach at the same time, they are like that best friend that will hold you when you're down but will call you out for the shit you're doing thank you
I like to take a REALLY deep breath and hold it in for a little bit and feel the anxiety go away instantly. Two quick breaths through the nose, hold it in for 5 seconds, and then slowly breathe out through the mouth.
honestly, even though i'm not a fan of life advice videos (or rather, became not a fan because of all the low quality, fake content out there), this was fantastic, both insightful and really encouraging. thank you so much.
Can you please make a video on how to utilise "waiting time" ? Coz I feel like that's when I end up wasting most of my time. For example waiting for 20 mins to leave for school or waiting for your parents to get ready for a dinner outside or waiting at a doctor's clinic. By "waiting time" I mean 10-30 mins of waiting where you can't properly study and when you don't know what to do. Also can you please make a video on how to properly take breaks that truly make you feel like you have rested and don't feel like a waste of time? Btw you are soooo pretty 💖
good ideaaa, although waiting time is a really good time for your brain (as long as you don't use your phone). Letting your brain wander during 10-20 minutes while waiting for the bus, staring out of the window etc has been proven to enhance productivitiy at other times.
for the educational content type, there’s also whole MIT classes as a video form in youtube for every subject you could imagine! I sometimes listen to thermodynamics class during a walk, because i cannot get anything out of an ”on person” classes!
I’m just laughing because professional singers know about getting the breath under control (it’s how we stay calm under pressure), but then the breath in the video was the worst breath🤣 I know mainly singers really know this but it made me laugh out loud. (A good low breath focuses on expansion of the diaphragm, and the shoulders moving is evident of a high, stress-filled breath)😜
your jawline/ shape seems to have changed as you’ve grown! do you think this is from improving gut health? my face shape is like yours in those flashback videos, and i’d love to look as you do now!
What i find confusing, how did you manage to create habits while having ADHD? as an adhd girlie its like almost impossible to create anything into a habit, i mean iam brushing my teeth (almost) everyday but its still not a habit for me, i still need to think and remember myself to do it (and sometimes still forget...) PLease comment below if you got ADHD and feel the same way XD want to know if iam just being crazy
I'm still confused about #2, the combined micro habit (watching content). I feel like I could use an entire video explanation on it 🙏 like I don't get it - is it multitasking or habit stacking?
It's redirecting a habit you may already have (listening to content in the background while doing things) to be more productive. If you don't already listen to things in the background through life then it's fine to sit with that, but if you find yourself listening to things that aren't particularly productive (true crime videos on my commute and while I clean the flat are my personal circle of doom), maybe change it up for something more productive. BUT there is a place for those bingey things - they can be a treat to look forward to during those tasks you want to do less, and incentivise you to get started.
