My complete camera, lighting & Studio setup, with lots of tips how to create great videos. Also, if you want to see a full updated MAKEUP COLLECTION, let me know by giving this video a THUMBS UP and I'll film it when we reach 5000 Likes! So let me know by hitting that Like button ;)
thank you so much for doing this video, I have a small channel and this video is really helpful to me, yes other youtubers won't tell their secrets, now i have an idea for what to ask for xmas lol and what to buy also for my own little space. that's very sweet, I been watching you since you started your channel :) hugs.
Sabrinas Playground ***** I also would love to know what editing software you use and does it make a difference in videos? Sabrinas Playground good luck on your channel I know its hard very hard.. I love when big youtubers help out with this kind of videso. thanks
***** thank you for filming this video, the other UA-cam's I asked just ignored me when I asked about setup and lighting. I appreciate it alot. I was wondering how you zoom in and out while filming.
I personally think that the quality of your videos is incredible. You really go the extra step to make everything extremely professional and high quality, and I think your videos have the best quality and lighting on all of UA-cam! Thank you Julia, for making this video, it is very helpful to people just starting out on youtube, like me!
I don't know if you realize this Julia, but you are the OG/pioneer that started the whole Ikea "Alex Drawer" craze. Now every makeup guru has one. Ikea should be cutting you some major checks!
I really never comment, because I get shy with commenting, but for this I really needed to comment. I want to thank you SO MUCH for sharing your equipment with us. I agree that it is sad how a lot of people don't like to share what they've learned because they feel that others should do the work themselves. Now I see the reasoning for that, but there's no reason to not help another person like you have done for us here. I don't have money yet for proper lighting, nor do I have a proper filming camera, but one day when I have enough money I will refer back to your video for help. I was thinking of buying that 600D/T3i too, and I'm glad you mentioned about the lack of auto-focus. Now I know to go for the T5i :) Thanks again Julia!
I just wanted to say thank you SO much for posting this video! I'm a new UA-camr and I was so hesitant about buying new camera equipment...But your videos have forsure made me feel more confident about purchasing some of this equipment. I really appreciate it!!!
I agree with you...there are a lot of MUA's who don't want to share any of their filming secrets. Thank you so much for sharing this information with us. I really appreciate it. xoxoxo
This is the best lighting video I have ever seen and I agree I think people don't want to share their lighting secrets. Thank you so much you are the best!
I wanted to really say: DANKEEE! Like you said, many youtubers seem very secretive about filming, and for example lighting is really what I struggle the most with my videos. No matter how much I try, they never seem like beautiful and bright like you see so many videos. But this definitely helped :D
My dad is a professional photographer and has been working with cameras for many years. Some of his lenses are before SLRs even became digital, and probably older than me too. So, if you're considering buying a lense, and you know you'll stick with Canon, then you'll have it for such a long time. He always says that it is more about the lense than the actual camera itself. But I don't feel like from your videos that you need an extra lense - they are very professional and sharp, and I liked this video a lot, thanks for sharing :)
Thank you Julia!! The sharing on tip off on lighting does help alot!! I usually rely on day light that comes through my room's window. Have been thinking of getting lighting bt couldn't decide yet coz I didn't have the space for permanent set up..
Thank you for sharing your knowledge on this topic! I agree, it seems like a lot of youtubers are hesitant to share this information. Having said that, I cannot get over that little vlogging camera you have...and I just watched the video demo at amazon on the Vixia mini, amazeballs!
Very informative and helpful. We've been wanting to start filming our podcasts and this helps a lot with ideas on how to set up good lighting. Thank you for sharing.
I thought it was really helpful to see that you use a remote to do the autofocus! I bought a 50mm prime, but I had trouble implementing it into my videography workflow because i didn't know to have it focus on me when I needed to be so FAR away from the camera. The remote control is a great solution!
very helpful and thanks for sharing. I am a speaker and starting to do empowerment videos and was looking for a way to create a home studio. As I find ways to make my studio professional, I will share my tips as well.
P.S.: Seeing your video I am thinking to buy the Canon VIXIA camcorder. Do you think it would be better than a regular camera (a compact one) for vlogging?
Thank you for sharing your setup! I'm on my way to making a film for UA-cam soon and,I'm buying equipment here and there! Just got the canon eos 70 D! I have a glamcor light I've picked up at a makeup show, but I haven't even gotten a chance to film yet!
As you said, it would be awesome if more people share their system to do videos so we can learn more from each other. I love and enjoy watching this kind of videos and I'm learning a lot. From this video I learned good things. I even added it to my playlist because I want to get the ring light and the ac adapter cable. I do have good tripods but I feel like I need another good one and I like the one you use. Thanks for sharing! You're very pretty and explain very well everything in your videos.
I dont know if you should change something Julia. The lightning is for this job very good, maybe you can place the soft-boxes a bit backward to avoid that the background is over exposed, it also terminates the effect from the light-globe behind you. Maybe try to use an iris like 5.6 or 8 so your whole face will be sharp. With an iris from 2.8 your ears will get out of focus when you focus on your eyes. For an other lens i could advice Samyang objectives, those are very nice to work with and not really ridicules expensive. It are cinematic lenses, but i use them for fashion to.
Thank you so much for sharing! This was so helpful! I started my channel a few months ago and lighting is one of my biggest challenges that I struggle with! xoxo
thank you so much for this video!!! it really helped :) also I totally agree wight the whole "youtubers not sharing their tips" I feel like some youtubers are just greedy and don't want to share but I love that you're very honest and wanted to share your tips and tricks :)
Great stuff you've got for filming.I liked ur studio, setup, decorations and everything and i will love to see your makeup collection :) I gave you thumbs up. I always do ;)
Thanks for sharing all of this grea5 information! I have been blogging for over 7 years but really want to start Incorporating some video in as well so this helps a ton!
i was really surprised after looking at all of these items links and adding it up that for around $2,200 you can get a AMAZING high quality set up like yours!!!!! i was imagining it to cost thousandsss more. obviously the most expensive stuff you can start out smaller-the camera, the lens.. thank you for sharing all of this!
Very insightful . I really like the still shots, when you show the products. I've been wondering what your setup was. This can help me when I sell stuff on ebay, to get those nice professional looking photos. Thanks! PS: I also brought the Alex draws and the desk from Ikea, because of you videos.
Hi julia! I've been watching your tutorials for like 6 years! You are my very favorite and have motivated me to start a youtube channel... Took me a while to start up but here I am 😊 My question for you is, what editing software do you use?
I use the same ring light as you but I have a videocamera so it's all very sharp without any bokeh. I want to improve my background because I'm using a spare room and the wall is very dark! Thanks for sharing, it's very helpful!
Really interesting video! Of course I would like to see your make-up collection as I'm curious to see how you store all the items you receive from the PR companies.
I used the T3i for a long time but the focusing just became too much of a pain. You really should upgrade to a t5i/6i/70d because the autofocus is amazing and saves so much time.
Super Video ! Es kommt wie gerufen, da ich die ganze Zeit auf der Suche nach Videos über Ringleuchten bin :D Finde es auch wirklich schade, das nur wenige Videos dazu machen. Danke für deine tollen Tipps :D Liebe Grüße
Thanks for such a HELPFUL video. As a beauty/fashion guru with over 13,000 subscribers I always look for ways to improve my filming and lighting. It is so helpful to hear tips from such successful youtubers. Thanks again :) By the way you look beautiful as always

everyone also went out and bought the Malm Vanity as well! lol
You are right Jane Doe. :)

Great video! Really helps to see what lighting you use, to me that is the most frustrating part when filming videos
Hi julia! I've been watching your tutorials for like 6 years! You are my very favorite and have motivated me to start a youtube channel... Took me a while to start up but here I am 😊
