HOLY MOLY!! Maya, I've just been binge watching your videos as research for starting my own channel and I cannot begin to tell you how helpful you've been! Thank you so so much!

  • @shamelessmaya

good questions! i have to focus on a toy i have on a stick! then i stand where it was. OR i put the camera in photo mode and use a remote control to focus, mark where i was standing, then change the setting to video and go back! when i first started it was a pain but now i do it so fast :)

  • @shamelessmaya

you don't really need to use a reflector but when i use it I generally use it below by my chest or waist area depending on how tight the shot is

:) my biggest challenge is finding a way to share information so it's properly understood. these types of videos are the hardest for me but it's worth it :)

  • @shamelessmaya

it depends on what you're going for. the good thing is it's all digital now so just take a shot and make whatever adjustments...if it doesn't work out you can change it up :)

  • @shamelessmaya

I hope you have more of these How-To videos when it comes to video/photography set ups (NO PRESSURE LOL). I can absolutely use google and film/photo blogs/vlogs to further my education in them, which I already have. But seeing it up close and seeing how well you described everything without the language being too technical or advanced to us novices is refreshing and I retain much more info. Thank you for this simple and brilliant video, Mama Shameless.

it depends on how bright or how much space i have to work with. usually around 3 ft

  • @shamelessmaya

yeah i keep em so close! but i prefer my ring light since it's a fast and simple set up

  • @Aiegelesswords

I want to start making videos but had no idea where to start now I learned about light. Every video of yours that I watch gives me more guts lol. I appreciate your informative videos.. I think the hardest part about how to videos is giving the details because you already kno everything so you have to go back to square one to explain it to someone else. Thanks for taking the time to guide us :)

  • @shamelessmaya
    @shamelessmaya  11 років тому

it all depends on your budget. i use all 3 lights it just depends on the look i want. you don't need flawless skin though. actually a lot of gurus here do not have flawless skin and just use really strong light to make it look "flawless".

Third because you share things like this with us. Some vloggers will not share this type of info. I just imagine you as a bff. Stay sweet and always do you. I wish you much success.

Hi Shameless Maya I'm considering the ring light but read reviews that said it's extremely bright. Did you use a filter gel/ gel filter (idk) over it? Was it as blinding as they say I film pretty close so the camera is usually 2-3 feet away. If so what gel do you recommend I know nothing about them. Thanks love.

When using the ring light, is it best to use while in the dark? Also, I use a regular 13 watt energy saving bulb and my question is, with the umbrella lighting, will I white out since I'll be using a higher watt bulb?

I prefer shooting with natural light over anything else, but I'm finding myself in more situations where artificial light sources are needed. Concert photographer is what I like more than anything else.
I really enjoy your work and see your fascination with lighting. It's like you take the videographer's approach. Doesn't make sense on the surface, but I know there are subtle differences.
