Thank you for doing the video and for the great info! Maybe a future topic for a video… best practices working with your preceptors in clinical rotations. 😊
Hi Camille 👋🏾 I LOVE your videos! I have finished my didactic portion of my program and will soon begin clinicals. My background is critical care. I’m interested in neurology and somatic experiences. Is there an area in healthcare in which Psychiatry and those meet? If so, what would be the role of the PMHNP?
@cynthiafountain1479 Thank you for watching and for your question. Congratulations on the point you've reached thus far on your journey! Are you in an NP program? If so, FNP or PMHNP? Neurology and somatic experiences are definitely interesting. Although there are some pretty unique PMHNP roles, I can't think of anywhere these fields would intersect with psychiatry or one where a PMHNP's scope may fit. Maybe sleep medicine, although there are usually FNPs/ACNP in the field. In any setting, the role of the PMHNP includes assessment, diagnosis, treatment by medications and therapy, evaluation, education. I hope this somewhat answers your question. Please let me know what other questions come up and keep me updated on your journey. -Camellia D.
@@CamelliaDThePsychNP Thank you! This does answer my question. I was thinking that these areas probably fit the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner role. Perhaps in the future, I’ll pursue dual certification. However for now, I can only concentrate on one thing and that is completing PMHNP certification. Thank you again for your videos. They are so informative.
@PokerDummyface1024 This is a great question. There aren't any states that I'm aware of that won't accept NPs or allow them to practice after graduation based on the school. I would check with your state board to ensure that your school will be recognized when you have to obtain approval from the board. This may also be at the discretion of the hiring organization. I hope this helps? -Cam D.
I would love to discuss salary for a new grad. I’ve seen so many job postings that start very low based on the location of course and some that start mid to high. How do you decide which is the best job aside from pay? Also, there are so many options for telehealth, how does that work if you live in another state? Do you just obtain a license for that state? I am interested in outpatient but I was under the impression I would be required to see the patient in person for the initial visit then telehealth. Would you mind clarifying for me. Thank you.
@cnic Thank you for your questions. I know pay is one of the most variable topics. It truly depends on the location. www.ziprecruiter.com/Salaries/Pmhnp-Salary may be a good place to get an idea. Pay for new grads may be slightly less or those that start higher, don't have much room to increase. Regarding telehealth, you will need to obtain a license in the state that you will be seeing patients. Also, seeing patients in-person is not always required or necessary prior to seeing patients by telehealth. This varies from organization to organization. I hope this helps? Please let me know what other questions you have. -Camellia D.
After geaduation, are there any rules with certification exams? can we take both ancc and aanp certification exams, one or the other or just one (please specify which one). Thank you.
@saydabaquedano7264 Thank you for your question. For the PMHNP cert, you can only obtain it through the ANCC. This is different from an FNP cert, for which you can be certified by the ANCC or AANP. Does this answer your question? -Camellia
@@CamelliaDThePsychNP Thank you so much Camellia. Yes this answers my questions and is very straightforward. Too much confusing info about this on the internet.

If a state does not precept students from a school. Can those students still work in that state after they’ve become NPs?
