RIP to the late-great Lanny Poffo aka The Genius🔥 Stream his full shoot interview from 2014 ⬇ 📺titlematchnetwork.com/wrestling-shoot-interviews-results/
I met Lanny in the 80s when he was in ICW. I also met his brother Randy, but I actually had a couple of conversations with their dad Angelo Poffo. At the time, I had no idea that he owned the company or was in charge of anything. I just knew that he used to be The Miser. My conversations with him actually led to me being asked, by him, to introduce the wrestlers for that last two matches and ringing the bell. As an avid fan, it was the best day of my life to that point.
Could take insane bumps, got slammed from inside the ring to the mats outside, flat on his back, only other wrestlers who I've seen take insane bumps was Mick Foley & Owen Hart
When the audience/crowd hates the character you play, you know you are an outstanding actor. Guys like Poffo (as The Genius), Heenan, DiBiase, Piper, they were absolutely fantastic. They were so much fun.
He was entertaining and he could work .. I keep thinking how he could have been like the Brain .. Bobby could work as well and transitioned into managing and announcing the Genius would have been a great announcer he got it ..
"Did you know there are women of easy virtue?" Lol. Reminded me of a story my dad told me years ago. In the 60s he was a bartender at a black night club and he was popular because of his quick wit and charm. So the owner wanted him to be MC. My dad didn't want to be up on stage. So the owner tells him, "Every night half that audience is female. Most of those ladies come in to see the performers and they'll be awfully 'nice' to the MC if they think that will get them backstage where they can see the stars (Lou Rawls, James Ingram, David Ruffin, etc)." My dad was convinced.
Well, I’ve always enjoyed watching his matches, and of course his brother was one of the all-time greats and my personal favorite I disagree that he had one simple gimmick because he was also known as leaping Lanny Poffo and his acrobatics in the ring were amazing, and I was never bored watching him in the ring, and it was obvious that he was articulate and fun to listen to the genius gimmick was also fun thanks for posting this interview. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I always wondered why they never put him and his brother together in tag teams
I can humbly say that you were and still are one of my favorite jobbers. You lit the ring up with excitement when you wrestled as far as I'm concerned you are a legend and icon for sure in my book. I don't care what else is said.
So the guy responsible for the payouts that were based on ticket sales came into the locked room every show and told you beforehand why you were going to get light bagged on your pay, regardless of crowd size. What a guy!
I think Lanny was just as talented as Randy, and he was just given the short end of the deal. I know he was going to come back as Gorgeous George in WCW, and man I’m sure he would have nailed that gimmick.
@@PulverizerALanny definitely had personality and charisma. Not like Randy, but Lanny was no stick in the mud. Not many people had charisma on the level of Randy Savage but Lanny was no slouch.
Leaping Lanny Poffo was too Smart for Wrestling, this guy should've been a doctor, just saying... This man God Bless his Soul was AMAZING in the ring, on the Mic and in Person...
Maybe later on but the mid 80’s IC title picture was absolutely loaded. However if Lanny had wrestled in this era he could’ve been multiple time world champion. Especially with the 15-20 different belts there are
As much as i was fans of the Poffos, they seemed to be very critical of people in the business who didn't take care of their health. King Kong Bundy described a similar incident in his KC shoot interview.
The Poffo brothers were never that popular among the wrestlers, both these guys were just flat out weird. My dad knew Lanny, they went to the same gym for 3 years, he said he comes across at first fine, but get to know him and he's flat out weird.
Given his size, speed and flexibility, I can believe that Lanny could get loose from Gene pretty quickly. And Gene wasn't in great health at that time.
Lanny talks a lot of BS but was never even close to what he thought he was! He is known as the guy that sux his own package in the locker room in front of the boy's! Real winner there! He ended up where he belonged at the bottom!
He said that he originally hired Randy in Georgia as a favor to randy's dad and that he brought him in to do first or second matches on the card because he was only 180 pounds at the time. He never mentioned Lanny at all.

Lanny always gave a great interview. He had such a unique way of analyzing everything.
You always learn somethinf when you listen to lanny. Rip lanny. God love ya
Only thing learned is that a poffo is full of B S
Lanny's eloquence is absolutely delightful!

The Miser!!!!
An underrated wrestler! People hated him as Genius, which proves his talent!

@@SlimDonni plus Lanny was an innovative performer when nobody did springboard moves in America before Brian Pillman.
I died laughing when he they told him that ole Anderson didn’t like his lanny family-
Lanny - “is that a fact” 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I lost it his face reaction
Loved this whole shoot. Hope it is uploaded in its entirety.
"You have to get old, but you don't have to get Ole." That might be his best line lol.
Another classic Lanny idiom
I agree 😄
Mad love for Lanny, tremendous athlete,so talented so charismatic, always an entertainment. RIP Lanny Poffo
22:41 it’s wild that Ole Anderson actually outlived Lanny Poffo.

RIP Lanny and Randy!!!!!!
I loved Lanny back in “The Genius” and “The Poet” days when I was a kid.
The Genius Lanny Poffo. The world’s smartest man.

Lanny threw the most convincing working 👊 🤜 punch EVER in the business!
He sold that punch with excellence!
I remember seeing Lanny Poffo growing up in Tulsa Oklahoma in the Mid-South territory.
Lanny was a genuinely intelligent dude; he played The Genius perfectly, with no irony.
So the guy responsible for the payouts that were based on ticket sales came into the locked room every show and told you beforehand why you were going to get light bagged on your pay, regardless of crowd size. What a guy!

Randy had charisma and personality.
Lanny had none. He was an excellent worker IMO though.
Funny how Randy overshadowed him most of his life sbd even then when he was going to do that gimmick, Savage douchbag girlfriend stole it from him
@@PulverizerALanny definitely had personality and charisma. Not like Randy, but Lanny was no stick in the mud. Not many people had charisma on the level of Randy Savage but Lanny was no slouch.
I could hear him talk all day
Did Ole Anderson like anybody? He hated Flair, Rhodes, and many others. At least Lanny was in good company.
I heard him name about three people that he like. Bur overall he wasnt much for giving praise, hell-he called Lou Thesz 'pretty good' 😂
New found respect for Lanny
Leaping Lanny Poffo Was a Great Worker I seen him in Memphis way before WWE RIP
13:33 - did he tell on Vince?
Leaping Lanny Poffo was too Smart for Wrestling, this guy should've been a doctor, just saying... This man God Bless his Soul was AMAZING in the ring, on the Mic and in Person...
Lanny KNEW the business
"The Genius". That's sarcasm. Clearly.
If Lanny hit the gear he could've won the IC strap during the mid 80's. Just the way the business was back then
Maybe later on but the mid 80’s IC title picture was absolutely loaded. However if Lanny had wrestled in this era he could’ve been multiple time world champion. Especially with the 15-20 different belts there are
13:26 13:38 i suppose he's talking about Vince McMahon lol 😆

And Ole outlived lannith by just over a year and Ole was 12 years older.....GO FIGURE .
" How do you get a reaction out of an empty chair anyway?" I'll bet Lanny had to duck immediately after saying that to Ole😂❤
The genius was the Dr. Smith of wrestling. (Lost in Space reference).
Women's gymnastics has high ratings because women will actually watch it
Ole used to like to watch the other boys eat hotdogs
Lanny is great and have you seen his wife!? Damn!
Who didn't Ole hate?
Verne Gagne. That's all I got
Didn't need 35,40. Both gone in 20!

Weird in what way?
This why I said Lanny was the 💩 talker and Randy the muscle 💪🏿 of the poffomania fame 😂
I always liked Lanny Poffo; he's a very interesting man. Good sense of humor, too.😊
An underused talent in the wwf. Criminal.
This dude being interviewed is a genius.
Yes, poetically leaping from one topic to the next. A truly genius seque. Lanny was one of a kind
Ole booked & branded 1990s NWA so badly (The Undertaker = "Mean Mark") it was like a sleep deprived 7 year old was in charge or it.
the undertaker is a cartoon character, not having that kind of stuff is what set wcw/nwa apart from wwf
@utah8312 I get that, but you have to admit "Mean Mark vs Ding Dong" sounds like either a Sleepwalking 5 y/o or a fetish scene you don't want to see.
Yeah. If only he had seen sense and booked, plumbers, dentists and racecar drivers like the WWE did.
That was actually Terry Funk's idea to call him Mean Mark Callous.
@@utah8312knock it all you want but sure was far more entertaining than a bunch of beer bellied drunks in underwear playing tough guy wrassler

It seems like nobody likes Ole. 😂
Lanny hated DTJ...he was truly the genius
Who is DTJ?
@JayChristie-fo4ld satan
@JayChristie-fo4ld jesus
Trump
Yeah and look at Lanny now.
Same reason he hated any Black Man. He was taught to.
Lanny is a weird dude
Poffo was always dull as dishwater. Nice guy but boring
I lost track of what he was talking about, then fell asleep. Good grief he does ramble on.
You must have been one of the ladies of the night he was talking about.
I gotta imagine Ole didn't like Lanny smoking his own pole....
Yeah he was fucking jealous.
😂
Guggle guggle
What exactly did Ole say about Lanny and Randy in his book?
I have his book and don't recall him mentioning them.
He said that he originally hired Randy in Georgia as a favor to randy's dad and that he brought him in to do first or second matches on the card because he was only 180 pounds at the time. He never mentioned Lanny at all.
