Didn't Omniverse reveal that his alien backstory was an elaborate hoax via memory altering? Meaning he murdered that one guy in alien force for nothing?
Reveal no retcon they retconed it in classic he was a mutant , they git new writers for alien force and ultimate alien who retconed it to alien then omniverse retconed it back
Making kevin part alien was done to standadise benten to move away feom magic and mutants to aliens
Classic ben ten tried bring in so many far fetched conceots
Alien force and ultimate tried to ground it in aliens like making gwen part alien instead of just a witch like she wasmin clasic
They made kevin part alien and changed the mutant partmostly moving away from mutants
Omniverse went back to the inconsistent magic and mutant stuff and went off the rails

It makes sense that the Ultimatrix is the version of the Omnitrix that glitched out the most and was by far the most inconvenient model, considering it was originally made by Albedo, not Azmuth.

I don't know why but Ben 10's world is one of those that I love from the beginning just from the concept that there is this device that allows Ben to transform and fight aliens from different planets. Getting to see more of it makes it so much more amazing.
Ben 10 is basically an elongated, Dungeons and Dragons campaign.
Ben is the druid.
Gwen is the sorcerer.
Max is the artificer.
Kevin is the fighter.
my favorite part of ben 10 was the bit where some villain was like "hey maybe we should try kidnapping bens family to force him to not attack us?" and gwen was like "yeah you can do that, just like i can brutally torture you all to death" and then everyone just stopped trying to attack the family
The show kind of went back and forth on that issue.
One episode I'll never forget from Ultimate Alien is "Catch a Falling Star." One of the darkest episodes from my childhood. Like, so many people were killed, not to mention the Stockholm Syndrome situation. Other standouts are "Prisoner Number 775 is Missing", "Hit 'Em Where They Live", and "The Purge". While UA has some ups and downs, it's still my favorite series in the franchise.
Yeah this show was dark as fuck and I love it soo much!
I like any episode with Rath in it. He makes everything better

"To Catch A Falling Star" was my first introduction to Stockholm syndrome. They also explicitly say the term in that episode too if memory serves. No euphemisms or flowery language to get it past the censors.
The weirdest episode that still shocks me was one where Professor Paradox shows up...and it's obvious they are in the middle of a town that was used for nuclear testing, like in Alamos or somewhere else. And it's incredibly creepy somehow.
This guy is from the past, the future, the now, another now...went insane and then became sane because he got bored.
He is cool, an ally, but it just felt so creepy in a way. A guy that can be everywhere and nowhere in time and you can't really know.
That was nice 🤷
The fact I remember every one of the new aliens from this show so well 12 years later proves how well they were designed

It just seems to me like these two have decided that bygones should be bygones. Which is essentially their whole relationship through the show.
Idk it still feels extremely fast that Ben went from "I'm gonna scramble your fucking brains with soundwaves" to "Smoothies?"
It helps that Kevin wasn't really himself that whole time.
@@misterdewott8766 i can see where you are coming from, when i heard that ben was willing to kill his best friend after sharing touching moments with him beforehand and seeing how far hes become, really did make me pissed off at ben's character. i would've liked it a lot if they made ben reconsider what his grandpa max told him, and perhaps get rid of him wanting to kill kevin and perhaps just keeping him contained or sum like that
Why, @@spartanking1405? Ben has killed many times before, no matter if they’re innocent or not if they are evil/too far gone Ben will kill his enemies. Just ask the burned enslaved DNA humans he killed in “Max Out”, or the Squid Aliens from “They Lurk Below”. It’s always in his character to kill his enemies.
I do agree that the dilemma was poorly written, but it’s not because Ben wants to kill; again that’s always in his character as a hero. The problem is that like you alluded to, Kevin is his friend and they should’ve written the dilemma around that instead of this narrative that this “isn’t Ben”.
I just want to say that I love Kevin as a big lovable Meathead. Like, “I sense I’ve made a mistake” is so funny man.

To defend ultimate alien here for a second, when Kevin turns back to his normal self, it really is like a Jekyll and Hyde situation. It wasn't really him talking and acting, but a dark twisted part of him that took control. So when he gets turned back to normal, they treat him the same that they did before all that happened.
It's also mentioned like 3 times before that point that Osmosians become less mentally stable when they absorb energy and absorbing the Ultimatrix was probably more dangerous than the original. This isn't just because the Ultimatrix is more powerful but because it wasn't created by Azmuth or at least not fully.

I really liked the aliens that Agregor had taken. I wish we had a few episodes with them together as a group, it almost sounds like a Star Wars story even. A bunch of unique aliens, forced to cooperate to survive

As someone who's been a long time Ben 10 fan, omniverse might unironically my favourite iteration. It feels like the show runner noticed the dissonance between all the different tones and styles of the totality of the series and just went YES, IT'S ALL CANON. And just rolled with it.

I have mixed feelings on it. Omniverse has some of the best and worst episodes of the franchise, and a lot of the bad ones being in the first season kinda held it back. That said, the spiderverse episode, and Aziz Ansari episodes go so hard.
The thing that keeps pushing me away from omniverse is... they just rewinded all Ben's growth throughout alien force and ultimate alien for nothing, simply because "they had better ratings when ben was a cocky brat you wanted to hit in the face". Its no wonder Julie left him in such a harsh way, the omniverse version of him is the most insufferable of them all T__T
His cocky attitude makes him take a lot of L's in rather easy fights he could've owned like a champ if you put a late ultimate alien Ben in his shoes, he keeps picking unfavorable matchups, omnitrix starts giving him random bs aliens again because apparently russian roulette is fun i guess, and even when he finds out why ("you keep hitting this subtle instrument with all your strength when turning") he continues to do so regardless. I couldn't watch much more of that version of him after that... No offense of course, I probably just have different priorities in shows.

I'm not against the random aliens concept per se but he was shown to outgrow both his bratty side and his random alien problem, he was shown to be more effective at dealing with problems in af s1-2, and now in omniverse they suddenly completely reverted his growth, both mental and power wise, again, and, it seems, for good this time.
I really appreciate growth of characters in media, its probably the most important aspect for me in a good story, and in the end I stayed till the middle of season 4 but nothing really changed for what i consider to be "the better" and I ultimately lost interest. Seems like the show is not for me.

18:10 I think that Ben and Gwen are fully aware of what absorbing alien energy does to Kevin and the fact that he chose to do it solely to save their lives. So it kinda makes since for both of them to immediately forgive him. Also there’s an extra layer for Ben because he would most likely feel somewhat responsible for Kevin going off the deep end since he couldn’t stop the villain in addition to it being him (or least a version of himself) that convinced Kevin to absorb the Ultimate Omnitrix in the first place.
It's also very in character for Ben and Kevin to skip over the awkward forgiveness talk for a while and approach it later (read: when they're force to). They're not exactly the best at heavy topics, so going for a smoothie to relax after this big issue is finally passed them sounds about right. Gwen doing a heel-turn is slightly off-beat, but like you said, they know exactly what happened and are mostly happy to have him back to normal.
Now, does Kevin need to go make up for some of the shit he pulled? Yes. He put someone in the hospital for $8. I just assumed the ones he'd actually feel bad about were handled off-screen.
Ben 10 as a whole is a series that I remember loving as a kid, but looking back at it, there's so much that I don't remember at all. I remember Ultimate Alien coming out and all that, but I guess I really didn't watch it all that much since I absolutely don't remember Aggregor or the entire second arc of the show.
I still have a major fondness for this show and seriously love it. So please watch and review Omniverse so that I don't have to, and just experience it vicariously through you
Omniverse is fun since it has a TON of world building. It also deals with loss, abuse, and irresponsibility for some reason. Many mature themes in that show.

*Insert billboard here* I remember watching all these Ben 10 series as a teenager and I really was fond of them. I recognize that there's a lot of flaws and redundancies in the series now, but I think there's a lot of cool ideas and concepts that were also introduced.

Minor correction but... Ben's not the sample. That's not why Albedo was stuck as Ben.
He was stuck as Ben because Ben's human form is registered in the Omnitrix as the default. His duplicate Omnitrix synced up with Ben's and gave him Ben's default form.
Im currently watching Omniverse for the first time, it has been really nice to catch up with Ben 10 after over 10 years of the Ultimate Alien ending.

First appearance of one of the best recasts in the show, with John DiMaggio (Jake the dog/ Bender) as Zombozo.
Gwen is pretty hardcore that episode.

But not gonna lie, he is seriously underrated for more serious/darker characters. I still remember 1st hearing him as the Joker in the Red Hood movie, and that mf really send shivers down your spine. The 2nd best Joker voice after Mark Hamill, imo

John DiMaggio is already on the UAF cast alot. He does a bunch of voices for the show. It makes sense they would eventually reuse Zombozo.
Going off of your "Marvel Shows" speech, I agree with you, I can't believe superhero media went from being cheesy-ish, 22 minute self contained stories with a small continuing storyline, to 1 super serious story line that, although only branches out once in a while, is way complex, to us wanting cheesy-ish stories again. And sure we've had that a little bit with marvel cartoons, but they definitely don't have the quality things like Justice League had. But hopefully that'll start happening sooner or later.

I love the fact that he met the species in his omnitrix because of your point but to further that point it put things into perspective for the viewer and Ben, these aren’t just toys\tools at your disposal, this is the actual of actual being beyond your observable environment.
I’ve never seen Omniverse, but I would really enjoy seeing you review it. A few of your reviews have actually inspired me to go and watch the entire show purely because of how entertaining you made it seem. Looking forward to it whenever you have time
Heads up, if you decide to watch Omniverse you’re going to want to look up the series production order. Omniverse is notoriously the series that had its release schedule tampered with by executives the most. Instances of this being seen is the sequence of events the viewer would see, like Ben unlocking an alien being a huge deal, but several episodes previously he used that alien very nonchalantly.
That being said Omniverse is by far my favorite iteration of Ben 10. Sure it has its problems but it’s really a fun watch.

McDuffie was a legendary part of this series and the superhero genre and comic book medium in general, having not just created Static but also the entirety of Milestone Comics, something made to introduce more black voices into the comic industry. Milestone really worked for him, having been able to not only make iconic heroes like Rocket and Static but also introducing more black heroes and creators into comics, stamping his mark onto the DC Universe in a very impactful way as a writer. His work on the Ben 10 series will not be forgotten, especially with how Ben's grown as a character.
Thank you for trucking on with this retrospective series. Can't wait for the Omniverse video.

While Omniverse has a much different tone and art-style from the other series, I love it and would absolutely love a video covering it! It is the longest of the Ben 10 series though, so take your time
Omniverse is honestly my favorite because of the lore. Yeah some characters are a bit more cartoony, but the show makes up for it in a lot of other aspects. Rook is also a great character.
Fun fact: Ben’s Ultimatrix has a glitch that makes him transform into aliens naked. After getting his new Omnitrix in the Omniverse series, his aliens start transforming with clothes on.

It's been 12 to 10 years since I've seen all of Ultimate Alien, and I still remember some of the one offs, because of how bizarre they could get, and I couldn't believe we were getting a Gwen episode, or Jennifer Nocturne's Stockholm Syndrome episode.
And it took me years to adjust to Omniverse, hopefully you get to it, and speedrun through mine and many years of internal conflict lol

Thinking about it, considering how the Ultimatrix works by putting the selected species in a simulation where they’d be in a worst case scenario for a million years, I wonder how the aliens would’ve evolved if they simulation had them do something else for a million years like rescuing many or training to deal with their weaknesses.

The Ultimatrix evolutions were weirdly underused in this series. I was so disappointed that Ultimate Waybig and Wildmutt were the only new forms introduced after the original slate of forms were first shown in marketing.
The show also doesn't understand how evolution works, but I can let that slide for Rule of Cool.
They said these ultimate evolutions are combat based.

it takes the alien and puts him in a simulation of the hardest possible scanerio a never ending warzone for billions of years and through the simulation makes what the creature would evolve to if put in that situation for billion of years

It does understands how it works, it's just that it isn't a "natural" evolution. The watch is controlling every possible variable to make sure that all evolutionary pressures push the DNA into the "kill machine" direction instead of what would actually happen.
That's why they explained that all Ultimates were more "combat oriented", which is how you end up with a giant ankylosaurus with machine gun hands

I really want to see your review of Omniverse. I know it gets a lot of flak from the community, but it’s actually my favorite segment of the classic continuity. I will absolutely affirm that it’s not perfect. But it’s drama vs comedy balance was the best of the four. Maybe not for everyone but this is my opinion. It also had some of my favorite episodes of the franchise and Ben’s egotism is well balanced so it doesn’t make the whole episode frustrating to watch like some UAF episodes. (Ghost Town from AF comes to mind for me.)

Ultimate Alien might be one of the darkest seasons of any mainstream children's show that depends so heavily on toy sales like Ben 10. Stockholm syndrome, on -screen murders, death by lynching, the hero's girlfriend getting indoctrinated into a cult, and an alien attempting to commit suicide by superhero (just off the top of my head).
Not going to spoil, just gonna say that Omniverse had some balls for the thing they did. I think it's worth getting to for that alone. I don't know if I should say the EP number, want you to be surprised when you get there.

Thank you for making this video and exploring all the characters and events so well. It's true half-hour superhero stories are the most fun, actually Marvel does have the Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon from the mid 2000s. In my opinion that series was almost as good as Justice League. Definitely worth exploring in a future video. You did Ultimate Alien great justice. I look forward to your next Ben 10 video however long it takes. You gave me some good laughs and clearly had a lot of fun here, so good job!
I would love to see a follow-up video for Omniverse! It has some of my favorite episodes of the entire franchise, along with some of the best one-off jokes Ben 10 has to offer, and I personally think a lot of the major arcs were well done from a story-telling perspective. (Key word being MOST, but it wouldn't make a very interesting video if they'd all been fantastic, would it?)

24:40 Don’t know if you read all the comments, but as a long time Ben 10 fan, Omniverse is my favorite of the four series. I really think you should give it a watch through, not just because you’ve done three out of four of the main shows but because it took a really bold tonal shift that brought the franchise to an interesting place.
Kevin feeling a sense of responsibility also works considering the scrapped (but still canon) retcon in Omniverse that Aggregor was created using his DNA.

Ultimate Alien is a weird one for me. I remember quite liking it for the Aggregor/Ultimate Kevin arcs. But once we got to the Forever Knights vs Flame Keeper's Circle, I really just felt myself checking out. The ending especially where Vilgax once again became the franchise's buttmonkey.
Which sucks because I think a lot of the new aliens are really cool. Water Hazard is actually one of my favorites. And even the "Ultimate" gimmick was cool in theory with Ultimate Spidermonkey and Echo Echo, but it felt underutilized. Mostly because it wasn't used much and even then, it only rarely made an actual difference on the aliens. What's the difference between regular Cannonbolt and Ultimate Cannonbolt. Uh. Ultimate is pointier I guess.
I do like how the concept of Ultimate Cannonbolt makes less sense in theory, as the spikes should mess up his speed. Then again it isn't explained how Cannonbolt can see when he rolls anyway so maybe it's fitting.

I liked the ultimate designs that really went far with it. Ultimate Big Chill and Cannonbolt aren't that different, though I do think Ultimate Big Chill looks cool. Ultimate Humungousar I would say is a far enough change to be acceptable, and could act as a benchmark for differences in forms.
I think he can shoot spikes which was never shown (Got that from the wiki and the cartoon network site years ago). I will admit, I like Ultimate Cannonbolt's design over regular Cannonbolt

Ultimate Alien is honestly my favourite series of Ben 10. I have a lot of nostalgia for it, so there is some bias, but I also like a more cocky Ben. Provides some more interesting dynamics to the group imo

Not really, the celestial sapians shown in ultimate alien didn't had their personality balanced and due to this they were in argument and thus didn't do anything in ultimate alien. While in omniverse those celestial sapians had balanced personality and thus they interfare.

One thing I loved about ultimate alien was the weird explanations for the ultimate forms. If I recall they aren’t natural aliens or older forms, they’re a result of the omnitrix putting the alien dna into an intense combat scenario to see what the best evolutionary traits are to become the ultimate form of the species
Every billiam video drop is so exciting! Its always unexpected and thrilling. Is it gonna be Lost part 2?? A toy from my childhood i forgot existed but loved? The follow up to some other nostalgic cartoon? No matter what it is, they're all some of my favorite videos on the internet to watch

Ultimate Alien was actually a pretty good installment of the series, imo. I really liked the escalation brought about by the Ultimate Forms and I felt like this series ironed out Ben's characterization at that sweet spot between "messiah" and "dumbass."
And yes, I would love it if you made an Omniverse video. Not because I enjoy that series, but because I'd like to see you rip into it.

I can't wait to see your thoughts on Omniverse! I know it's a very divisive series, but it's arguably one of the best series in the franchise! I love the art direction of the show, and it's tragic that we will never get another show like it with the somewhat recent passing of Derrick J. Wyatt.

@@diegopansini3152 Yeah! Personally I don't mind the tone, though sometimes I do miss the darker tone of UAF. Some of the redesigns are very bad, but others are better than the originals, and for the most part I enjoy all the new aliens! The new characters, like Rook, Blukic and Driba are all very enjoyable! It's been a while since I last rewatched it, but when I did I really enjoyed it!

Ultimate Alien is the Ben 10 series that I have a specific kind of nostalgia for since it was the first one that started airing after I'd started using the internet. That meant I spent ages on Ben 10 forums waiting for news and screenshots of new episodes to release. Fun times.
