Daphne would not be the same without this era in the franchise history. One interesting thing that's stayed a constant for her in many subsequent series is the reporter angle. The franchises most iconic movie, zombie island, keeps the reporter angle which itself serves as a catalyst for the film's events. Idk, but this era is arguably one of my faves
And she kind of picks up an edge, riding motorcycles, kicking ass in the live action, killing monsters with buff Scrappy, every scene featuring her in Be Cool, she's still Daphne but now she might cut someone.
Finally, someone who understands important Daphne was during this era. Economically, you don’t need three serious characters who help solve the mystery, you just need one!
WAIT WAIT WAIT. Flimflam grows up but the gang all stay the same age this displays age in the show and shows that the gang is not affected. This means that the gang doesn't age, rendering them loosely immortal meaning the gang is a group of supernaturals going around debunking the supernatural. This is amazing.
Nah. It's just the Gang were basically fully grown adults already. Like a 17 year old and the same 17 year old at 25 years look more similar than a 12 year old vs himself at 17
My personal headcanon is that Scrappy's fearless attitude and adoration of Scooby eventually led him to grow up into an absolutely jacked ghost hunter who regularly punches actual supernatural creatures through walls.
Now I need a scooby do episode to start with "*explosion* OI IM SCRAPPY DOO AND WELCOME INTERNET TO MY SHOW GHOST SCRAPPERS! *pionts to very clear real actual ghost* IMA KICK HIS ASS!"
I'm over here in tears. That man looked so God damn pissed when George Washington's ghost interrupted him. It took him a sec to go from "bruh, who the f...?" to "os shit it's a ghost"
I will leave a comment with more comedic value later, but can we all take a moment and appreciate Billiam for the work he puts into these videos (and torture for enduring so much Scooby & Scrappy). I honestly was not expecting a notification when I got back from grocery shopping after a long day. This hit the spot! Thanks so much man!
Now, this is the Scrappy I remember. I only watched scrappy when Daphne was with them and in the movies where Shaggy had a red shirt. Scrappy was fine in those, so I was so confused when I found the Scrappy hatred. Also, who dislikes real supernatural stuff in Scooby-Doo? That's part is always fun, even when the plot is bad.
The reason why Scrappy gets so much is because Hannah Barbera try to make him the new face of the franchise instead of keeping him as a supporting character!
I've always loved Daphne, and think "old school" Daphne gets WAY too much heck for the "danger-prone Daphne" thing, which was charming in its own right (seriously, she leaned forward too far off a railing and fell. That's hilarious, and I'd kind of like some sort of callback to that in a newer Scooby outing).
@@freddyrichards878 I remember in of the movies, (Loch Ness Monster, I believe) they poked fun at the Danger Prone side of Daphne, making her Scotch Ancestors inherently danger prone (so it's in Daphne's bloodline to be Danger Prone)... to which the other members of Mystery Inc glare at Daphne, she retorts with "What?", then they all start whistling, murmuring, filing nails etc... I fell about the place laughing at that, not only a good callback but a well timed joke on it too.
Allegedly Scrappy doo was killed off when the live action movie was being produced cause the director just HATED scrappy with such a passion he made it his mission to kill off scrappy entirely as a character. Once the movie was released he apparently succeeded and that's why we no longer get to see scrappy doo in scooby doo things. I've also hated the entire debunking "its not real" thing about scooby doo in recent years cause it feels like theyre just denying alot of what made the show and franchise great in the first place. Zombie Island alone is one of the most iconic movies and it dealt with real ghosts and even voodoo cat people. Mystery Inc is said to be one of the best scooby shows for also embracing a darker story that went to include other HB lore as well. On top of all that they just make velma a huge jerk about everything like shes miss official science who doesnt believe in anything that isn't proven fact. she wont even humor ideas and just became a boring annoying know it all.
Zombie Island was only impactful _because_ the franchise usually avoids supernatural stuff. That's the balance I think the show should strike-stick to mundane explanations for typical mysteries, and only break out genuine magic for some special occasions. That said, the finale for a long-dead series about literal ghosts is exactly the kind of special occasion that deserves real ghosts.
@@freedomchaser9664 Alright. But I must warn you, its a bit lengthy, so bare with me. TITLE: "Scrappy" STUDIO: Warner Bros. Animation DISTRIBUTOR: Warner Bros. Pictures PLOT: Its business as usual for Mystery Inc, as we see them investigating an abandoned police station and setting up one of Fred's signature traps to lure and unmask their latest monster. Unfortunately for those meddling kids, the monster they were after had other plans and had managed to mysteriously rig the trap to capture Mystery Inc. in an attempt to frame them for the crime the monster itself committed. Soon word gets out that Scooby and the gang are all behind bars and awaiting trial. Now society knows that something shaddy is going on, but anyone who tried to testify on the gang's behalf would be charged with tampering with a law enforcement investigation. If the gang could not be proven innocent within 3 days, they would be behind bars for good. So unfortunately this is one mystery that the gang can't exactly crack, given that their behind bars, and the Mystery Machine has been impounded. At the same time all this went down, we are introduced to our title character for the next 85 minutes, Scooby Doo's hyperactive nephew, Scrappy Doo. Who's currently living at a pizzeria, where his mother, Ruby Doo, works as a waitress dog, delivering pizzas to tables and even helping deliver pizza boxes to-go. Now Scrappy means well, but given his puppy power tendencies, Scrappy longs to be just as great of a mystery solving master as his Uncle Scooby. Unfortunately spending a majority of his time in a pizzeria where little to no bad guys appear, has lead to the pups imagination often getting the better of him, and him accusing most innocent people in the resturaunt of being a possible red herring, leading him to be viewed as an utter annoyance by resturaunt staff. After getting into trouble for the final time, Scrappy gets put in the dog house til he can learn to behave. Despite Ruby trying to reason with Scrappy, and maybe offer a way to channel all that puppy power energy in a way to get it under control, Scrappy laments that not only is he bored of being cooped up in a pizzeria all day, but also how he wants to carry on the same legacy as his Uncle Scooby, and make him proud. He constantly brags about how he supposedly isn't adraid of anything, but weither he wants to admit it or not, there is one fear he does have, that he'll have to come to terms with eventually. That being, the fear of letting his Uncle Scooby down. Scrappy knows that Scooby is as cowardly as he is hungy, but despite being a big fat coward, Scooby Doo manages to pull through and have himself a scooby snack and that's a straight up fact. But the idea of letting his uncle down by being as vulnerable as any other dog is something that Scrappy refuses to let happen at all costs. However things quickly get going when Scrappy sees a news broadcast showcasing that Mystery Inc. is behind bars and how law enforcement seems to be rigging the case to convict those meddling kids. Scrappy of course suspects shaddy practices within law enforcement and the court procedure, and decides he wants to prove the gang innocent. Not because he wants to get some respect, but simply because he knows the Scooby gang are innocent and he refuses to let them be wronged by the law. However he knows that he can't do this on his own, and soon meets a woman named Marcie Fleach (who was originally a recurring character from 2010's "Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated"), who adopted the nickname, "Hot Dog Water". She was also a friend of Mystery Inc, and had been trying to do some undercover detective work to find the culprit who framed Mystery Inc because he/she had a long standaing personal beef with them. After a bit of back and forth, the two decide to team up and head off on a road trip across the state, with Marcie basically playing straight man to Scrappy's "Puppy Power" antics, as they set of to find and unmask the culprit and clear Scooby and the gang's good names. On the surface this is a standard Scooby Doo mystery, but with the highly controversial Scrappy Doo as the focus. However while the mystery is the general genre of the movie, its not the primary focus. Rather the primary focus of the story is Scrappy's arc of learning to accept the fact that he's no different from anyone else when it comes to personal fear. This take on Scrappy shows that he is in fact vulnerable and eventually by the end, he learns that there is ZERO shame in having a personal fear. In Scrappy's case, his "Puppy Power" ideologies are the result of pent up anxiety and how he should be more honest with himself and with others, and also acknowledges that just because he can jump into a dangerous situation head on, doesn't always mean that he should. It may be a mystery comedy, but at its core, its about Scrappy's personal growth and his friendship with Marcie and how she too is a bit of an outcast, giving Scrappy someone he can relate to. Well? What'd ya think?
I can't tell if you did a great job making yourself up to look disheveled, or if I need to be legitimately concerned about your well-being after this Scrappy ordeal
I always noticed that Scrappy Doo was pretty chill during the made for TV movies he was in like Ghoul School or the one where Shaggy was a Werewolf. He never really got on my nerves and didn't even considered him to be hated by fans.
@@prowolf633 exactly like Scrappy Doo made the show different instead of having fake monsters with Freddy and Velma it got old and repetitive scrappy doo added new adventures and the face they had real monsters made him so likable I love scrappy it's shame he didn't make the cut
I'm dying at your ending rant about Shaggy and Daphne. I'm pretty sure that era of Scooby spawned a legion of Shaggy/Daphne shippers that have never died out, despite basically any Scooby product containing Fred clearly indicating that he is the "canon" relationship for Daphne.
In my personal headcannon, Fred & Daphne broke-up amicably after High School(their Careers went in different direction's). Her later Relationship with Shaggy happened due to both having to "Be the Parents" of two mentally scarred kids(Scrappy thinking he was a Dog & Flim-flam's criminal history). They got unwillingly pulled into Vincent VanGhoul's(i never get tired of that Name) world and just naturally hook-up. They broke-up before Zombie Island probably due to "Scrappy" finally getting help(especially after the Kookie incident in Reluctant Werewolf). But that's all just me, so take it for what it's worth to ya....
i think it was a fling. she and Fred were on the outs at the time and Shaggy was there for her. so she kinda fell for him and they did it for a while until she got back together with Fred. that's my story and im sticking to it
I just ship all the human characters with each other at the same time and believe they all live as a polyamorous (is that the word?) Group with their dog of alien heritage.
I like how you spend a few minutes explaining how Daphne is smart now, meanwhile the entire time her eyes are going in completely different directions in all the clips you show.
My hubby turned 40 yesterday, and I showed him your Scrappy Doo mini retrospective. He has always unapologetically loved Scrappy Doo, and he's glad that the overblown hate is going away. He would like me to say "Thank you!" on his behalf. Your Scooby eps have been fun for me too.
My pitch for a D&D game: The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, but replace Shaggy, Scooby, Scrappy, Daphne, and Flim-Flam with a minor band touring the country. And now trying modify their tour to hunt down the spirits they accidentally released. ...My group has decided their band will be called the Murderhobos.
@@tanith117 Feel free to use the idea then. My group rotates through DMs, and there's a couple other campaigns I'm supposed to run first. It wouldn't shock me if it were around 2030 that I actually get to run this idea myself.
Warner's instructions to SPECIFICALLY not include Scrappy and Flimflam is the exact corporate decision that works in the complete opposite favor of what they wanted to accomplish: by specifically not including characters because you don't want to draw attention to them, you will inevitably bring even more attention to them than if you'd just reluctantly included them. Especially when you take into account the fact that people will rewatch the original series to catch up with the continuity. The issue with trying to vague with if the ghosts are real or not: this was an inappropriate time to emphasize that. Play by the rules of the series you are trying to pick up from; the 13 Ghosts were 100% real at that point. Them being real actually spices things up from the norms of Scooby Doo because now they don't win just by unmasking the ghosts. But the chest gives them a win condition to get out of something they weren't otherwise prepared for. Scooby Doo on zombie Island also highlighted one of the big problems I had with Scooby Doo as a whole: 95% of the "ghosts" are people 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 committing crimes to get rich. So it gets old and everyone goes from asking "Is that a real ghost?" to "What get-rich-quick scheme is it this time?". But the INSTANT we find a REAL ghost, everyone's attention is grabbed and we're trying to figure out "what do we do now?". I'd prefer if Scooby Doo went in a direction where every season, a random number of episodes are fitted into 4 categories: 1. Generic Scooby Doo formula. Oh, this ghost is fake. Here's what's really going on. 2. Oh crap! The ghost was actually REAL! And it's evil! What do we do now?! (Resolved by finding a way to neutralize or escape the ghost) 3. Oh crap! The ghost was actually REAL! But wait. It's friendly? Why is it here and if it doesn't want to be here, how do we help it pass on/rest/become not-an-issue? (sometimes criminals or people with bad intentions could be the real problem) 4. Usual Scooby Doo formula. Oh, this ghost is fake. Here's what's really going on.... but wait... what about that thing we found/saw back there and all this other stuff? Criminal: "That wasn't mine/I had nothing to do with that." Everyone: "👀 ...oh..." (Then you can let the episode fade out. You don't have to "solve" the case of the real ghost if you don't want to. Keep it vague if you want.) The numbers other than 1 were actually done a few times, but the point is that if used more often, with these formulas, the creators can keep you interested and guessing. Sometimes the monster is real, sometimes it's not. We've got a cast of interesting characters with experience solving mysteries. Let them do what they do. Some episodes with different/missing members of the gang. Some episodes with new/reoccurring/cameo members can keep things fresh. (Scooby Dumb/Dee, Red Herring, older Flimflam, a reworked Scrappy) But nah... let's just only do formula #1 over and over...
Oh, the 4 example is from scooby doo and the monster of loch ness? I remember there was two to three monster of loch ness, 1 of the monsters was real in that movie
I remember loving these episodes, especially 13 ghosts. The new gang is definitely underrated, because the four of them had great chemistry. Vincent Van Ghoul was great, and I really liked Flim Flam too. I think he added a lot to the show and it was nice to have a poc scooby team member!
Man, that platpuss duck segment gave me a rush of nostalgia I've not had in a good long while. Was even able to recite it moment the music started. Oohh... Ghoul school and reluctant werewolf are the two movies I personally grew up. "No more werewolf am I, I want to be a normal guy."
I can't wait for the Reluctant Werewolf, Boo Brothers, Ghoul School episode. Also, if they could give Flim Flam a revamp I see no reason they couldn't have done the same for Scrappy. It doesn't kill the joke to make him a more compelling or friendly character. Lay into that history of fan annoyance by making him overcome it somehow.
I agree. A modern version of Scrappy could be really great if they give him more puppy traits and keep his admiration of Scooby and maybe tone down overusing catchphrases.
Yep, like Billiam said in the first Scrappy video, a ton of people including myself just knew Scrappy as being in a few of the re-run Scooby-Doo episodes, there would be a lot of Scooby fans out there who don’t have that hatred for Scraooy because he was just sometimes around, I hope they eventually do something with him again other than make fun of the fact some people hate him.
The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo was the last series for which Heather North voiced Daphne. The series also marked the final Saturday morning Scooby series to feature Scrappy-Doo, and was the only Scooby series that had a pre-adolescent child (Flim Flam) become part of the gang. The show was canceled by ABC in March 1986 due to low ratings & budgetary problems and replaced with re-runs of Laff-a-Lympics. During a two year hiatus, Ruegger and ABC decided that they would overhaul the series entirely, developing A Pup Named Scooby-Doo in 1988.
I really admire your positive attitude in embracing all different versions of the same franchise. It's a good attitude that I hope more fans adopt. Also, ShaggyxDaphne rights!
When you were a kid we all though Fred was a chad and Shaggy was just a pothead When you grow up your realize that Shaggy was the real chad and Fred was just a underachieving jock. Seriously how many many girlfriends has Shaggy been with, he's been with Daphne, Velma and alien chick and at least 1 or 2 others. Shaggy got it going on, somehow.
I remember watching the New Scooby Doo Mysteries on Cartoon Network, it's only time slot was at midnight while 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo had a marathon once or twice.
@@RockNRollSurfinsulting Fred to justify your filthy and deleted ship eh ? I genuinely hope that none of the cringe shaphne shippers get what they desire in life. Also, Fred survived against jason in that adult parody while norville got butchered first for being the little basitch he is.
Yeah, those two, Zombie Island, Witches Ghost, and Loch Ness Monster are my favourites. They're pretty much the only Scooby-Doo stuff I'll willingly rewatch.
80's Scooby Doo was a MASSIVE product of it's time, showing off how 80's it was. From "The New Scooby Doo Mysteries" spoofing "Thriller" in the credits (I believe I heard that was the intention), and going for a more darker tone in 1985 (which mirrors that of cult TV series Doctor Who, which did the same thing in 1985). Even Daphne's fashion in 13 Ghosts is 80's, the jumpsuit look with the perm later popularised by Renae Jacob's April O' Neil in TMNT. I just love it for what it is because I'm a 90's lad and it was a time before I was born...
13 Ghost of Scooby Doo was definitely the most trippy, psychedelic show to come out of the series, and it's pretty dope. Vincent Price was definitely the highlight of the show.
They're cousins it's stated in an old vhs extra that had the creeper episode. I believe one of their parents are siblings which is why they both have money
I was never bothered by Scrappy Doo. One of my favorite movies in the Schooby Doo franchise is the Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf movie where Shaggy is a racer; Scrappy is a very good counter balance to the scared nature of Shaggy and Scooby, and his boldness remembers me that of a chihuahua.
Scrappy during the 1983-1988 shows and movies was a genuinely good character, but people only remember his early days in 1979-1982, where he was a bit rough around the edges and could be annoying sometimes, and the 2002 live-action movie, which ruined and derailed Scrappy to shit, it was horrible. He needs to come back to redeem himself from that awful portrayal.
The only reason i’m aware 13 ghost exist because I still remember that one night I saw an episode of it on Cartoon Network back when they when they aired old Scooby Doo reruns
Scrappy feels like he kinda deserves a second chance. He reminds me a lot of Jason Todd, a new character D.C brought in for a new younger audience who was hated by the public and forcibly removed from the series. However they later brought back Jason Todd as the Red Hood and gave him a new character arc which fixed him in the eyes of the fans. Warner Bros can possibly do the same with Scrappy if they tried.
@@fictionarch i think i got through all the american ones except i did also watch headmasters and armada, one day ill probably sit down and watch the japanese series through too once this fever hits me again. i also didn’t finish the i think two? webseries that came out after. i also read the idw comics that were out at the time and some of the old marvel comics, but didn’t finish either. honestly outside of like, some of the worst examples, transformers is pretty consistently “good” if you’re already into it’s lore and characters. what separates most of them is aesthetic and tone of each series. my favorites were definitely G1 (because it made me laugh a lot), prime was really pretty and had a really good second season although it ended up going nowhere, beast wars i think is the fun inbetween of those two eras if you can watch old cgi without vomiting. i also did enjoy the war for cybertron video games. the bumblebee movie was good. there are some that were really bad though, robots in disguise 2015 was legit awful, i think the live action films are pretty infamous but i think the third one is my least favorite. most of the other series have really good and really bad moments but aren’t unwatchable. at least if you’re into the robot cars/animals/whatever else they can turn into, there’s always a tiny bit of entertainment seeing how other people want to add to the extensive character list or interpret certain things and events.
"They do not pet Scooby enough in Scooby Doo." No..... No, that's not........ my God, it is true. We need to start a petition to get more pets for Scooby.
I honestly would enjoy to see a show featuring Flim Flam and Scrappy Doo. I know they are hated, but they can be written to work well! Thanks so much for this video ad defending this poor puppy!
21:05 Still really trippy to hear The Brain's voice coming out of Vincent Price's body but the guy who perfectly voice matches Orson "War of the Worlds" Wells was a perfect fit for the role.
This was without a doubt my favorite era of Scooby-Doo and arguably the best era. And yes Shaggy and Daphne boned....and he was better than Fred since you know his shaking in fear makes him vibrate.
Yeah, I can see him vibrating in bed lol Not to mention, the skinny guys are always hung as hell. But I'd still rather have Fred. I like muscles on a man.
It's quite clear WB to this day is scared to put scrappy in any new scooby-doo media thinking they will lose money if they do even though you'd think their main target audience would be unaware of the stigma against the character
"Look at Fred. Such a good christian boy" I dont why that got me, but good god, I had to pause the video I was laughing so hard. **edit: I laughed even harder at the Daphne and Shaggy conspiracy with Simple Plan playing in the background**
What do you think would be people’s reactions if we got a show where Scrappy navigated a city during a societal breakdown, trying to find the Mystery Gang, not to simply get to safety but to deliver them something.
Daphne and Shaggy definitely hang out more than anyone else in the group. Romantically? Platoniclly? Who cares? Their energy from this era is powerful, and whenever they interact in the newer shows, I'm reminded of it.
YEEESSSSSS! BILLIAMMMMMM!!!!!! I'm so happy you talked about Daphne's importance during this era! Her dynamic with Shaggy and Scooby (plus the others) is so great and her presence gave her a bigger role in the narrative and allowed her to have more personality in a way that really fit her character (also, yes, her and Shaggy were a couple, you are 100% right and i completely ship it!)
Flim Flam seems a lot like Gruncle Stan. I can't really judge his annoying side since Billiam barely shows it and I only vaguely remember one episode of 13 ghosts, but certainly asshole scam artist with heart of gold, like Gruncle Stan, is a much more appreciated character trope in current times than they maybe (not that I was around to know what was popular) were then - so maybe he was just ahead of his time.
I remember watching Scooby Doo all the time as a kid. I watched bits and pieces of all of the seasons. However, the 13 Ghosts was my favorite. I enjoyed Van Ghoul, I enjoyed Flim Flam, and I just loved the show in general. However, since it was from my childhood, I could never remember its name til now. Thank you for that.
I LOVED this era of Scooby Doo. Thirteen Ghosts was my JAM and New Gang + was my favorite version of the gang for a long time! I had no idea they made a movie finale for it last year. I have to watch it ASAP, since the lack of a conclusion always bothered me. Also, I NEVER considered that Shaggy/Daphne may be a thing, but that crazed rant at the end inadvertently convinced me.
Yeah they would play Scooby Doo and even that weird xomputer animated Johnny Quest show. Remember getting up early in the morning to watch both of them and maybe play some Genesis.
yeah he does get under people's skin its just in comparison to scrappy who was an integral part of scooby doo for a decade giving him a good amount more material to annoy people who didn't like him, while flim-flam was isolated to one 13 episode show so the hate is as prevalent
The people making new Scooby properties really like to push THEIR preferences onto everyone. They disallow Scrappy and a version of FlimFlam that is an actual kid (why is he the same age as Daphne and Shaggy? They’re like 10 years older than he is and he looks like he’s the same age as they are in the movie) and they like the monsters being fake so in movies like the 13th Ghost and Return to Zombie Island they have Velma acts smug and say everything was a hallucination or BS. It stiffles the creativity of the franchise. If they were in charge back in the Zombie Island era we’d never have gotten the real monsters movies.
@@Nightman221k If we're being frank here, there are some directors who want to bring Scrappy back (as evidenced by the 13th Ghost movie and Be Cool), but the higher-ups at Warner Bros. seem to be *very* persistent of not letting the poor pup get something positive in T.V. cameos
@@ribbodile6225 I hope they shake up the rules in future Scooby media. Having a ban on real monsters and from portraying Scrappy in a positive light restricts creativity and in Scooby Doo it's typically the really out-there movies and series that people really gravitate towards. Like without taking chances we'd never have gotten the Real Monsters films, Ghoul School, A Pup Named Scooby Doo, or Mystery Incorporated just to name a few.
@@Nightman221k Honestly, I hope so too. Maybe they should what Billiam said in the video and just make the Scooby-Doo multiverse so that way the folks who really like the traditional formula can still have that, but there can be way more experimentation with the franchise and give other folks the supernatural side that is also iconic. (I would personally like to see the 2nd gang again dealing with both fake and real monsters along side other Scooby stuff)
Finally someone who understand this era of Scooby Doo. I've been spent like years trying to explain the importance of Shaggy, Daphne, Scooby & Scrappy Doo in this era & why Fred & Velma was need it during this time. Granted they came back as guest stars in The New Scooby Doo Mysteries. But Daphne needed character development they also were trying to make Scrappy more useful & relevant to the gang & plus they were experimenting to see how Shaggy & Daphne would interact with one another without Fred & Velma (Which is a good thing considering I'm always been shipping for Shaggy & Daphne). I feel that this era doesn't get enough credit that they deserve especially the 13 ghost of Scooby Doo which is still my favorite Scooby carnation despite Warner Bros dropping the ball with their so called conclusion movie Scooby Doo & the curse of the 13th ghost.
Thank you, Billiam, for getting back into Scooby-Doo. Recently, I had been going through a difficult time in my life, and I wound up turning the TV onto Boomerang and watching Scooby-Doo. It was the one thing that was able to cheer me up, and afterward I started watching your series which inspired me to buy a bunch of DVDs. I watched the first and second seasons of "Where Are You", as well as "13 Ghosts" and it's movie which I adored. It makes me sad seeing it getting hated on, as well as Scrappy since I have fond memories of "Ghoul School" and some of the better series including him. Never really got the hate myself, and I really liked this era because of Daphne. She was the perfect "straight man" to the others, and I think her and Shaggy's chemistry was really great, to the point that I really wish Fred and Velma weren't in the movie. I don't ship Shaggy/Daphne, but I really do think they had great chemistry, and if another series explored that like "Mystery Inc." did, I wouldn't be upset. Thank you again.
I thought I was the only person who lowkey shipped Shaggy and Daphne. And it's always great to see my boo Vincent Price in cartoon form. I'm sorry I mean Vincent Van Ghoul.
@David Blyth The recent show, Be Cool Scooby Doo (my favourite version) had a lot of Fred/Velma and Shaggy/Daphne hints in it (even though they kept all of them as just friends throughout the show).
Thank you for defending Scrappy. I watched this show as a kid during the Scrappy era, and while I agree it's not as good as the earlier versions (Scooby/ Shaggy/ Scrappy was the all-time worst incarnation, IMO), I do think it's over-hated, and more likable for little kids then adults. And yes, this era was better than the earlier Scrappy era. BTW, after the 1987-88 TV movies, here's a complete list of all the other animated Scooby-Doo shows and movies you can do: The New Scooby-Doo Movies (1972-4) The Scooby-Doo Show (1976-78) Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get a Clue! (2006-08) Be Cool, Scooby-Doo (2015-18) Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? (2019-?) All movies from Scooby-Doo and the Legend of the Vampire (2003) to the present; 31 have been released, according to Wikipedia.
Yesss, he gotta do the classic 70s shows! I'm shocked he hasn't done The New Scooby-Doo Movies and The Scooby-Doo Show yet. And definitely the more recent incarnations need their videos, especially the very underrated and overhated Be Cool Scooby-Doo (I can't believe how many people hated it just because of the animation and designs) and the weird as fuck Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get a Clue (this one deserves the hate).
*Santa Shaggy:* We got you a big old Christmas star! Right here in my sack. *The Ghost of Christmas Never:* Really?! *Scrappy straight up kicks her into the sack when she goes to look.* Absolute savage.
I honestly can't associate ”the Curse of the 13th Ghost” movie as a canon finale. It felt too much like it was based on an alternate history version of 13 Ghosts.
7:05-7:10 - The Creature Came from Chem Lab wasn’t actually from the New Scooby-Doo Mysteries; it was from the previous season (you can tell by the music at the title card).
Here's something interesting. Jon Colton Barry, one of the showrunners for Be Cool Scooby Doo, mentioned how he tried incorporating him into the Halloween episode from season 2, but he had to cut him out. mobile.twitter.com/joncoltonbarry/status/1319177450954186752
I started to ramble but the basic comment is yeah same: I know I'd love them to bring him back and maybe talk about that he was the most annoying little kid/pup but has really gotten decent as he's gotten older. Or maybe even he leaned into/internalized them not liking him and went off to do his own thing, maybe travel with another group who's goal has been to catch more monsters than the original crew which ultimately leads them to causing more problems for the townsfolk which always gets the original gang called thus providing the OG gang with constant work and scrappy with learning opportunities. Like "oh this is why we split up/ make traps/keep smart people around/ travel together (an episode where a member just doesn't show up/goes to the wrong place is hilarious to me)
Okay I love this. A great analysis of why this works well. Also I think I saw the 13 ghosts series growing up on boomerang (holy fuck we're the same age) and I've low-key been a shaphne guy ever since. Gotta love those life shaping ships haha! Thanks for the content man!
My fav touch in the curse of the 13th ghost is when Vincent tells them they found the 13th ghost and everyone gets so scared, and Velma and Fred just look at each other awkwardly. Very neat touch.
Idk why i forgot that she's been shown as a reporter quite a few times when I read "Scooby Apocalypse," but now it makes sense.
Hell yes!!
There was also the samurai movie where she was invited to be in martial arts tournament and her saying Hell in the crossover with CW’s Supernatural
What's it like having shit taste
Finally, someone who understands important Daphne was during this era. Economically, you don’t need three serious characters who help solve the mystery, you just need one!
Yesss!!!
It also helped flesh out her character and made her more than the one always getting kidnapped or captured by the villains.
@@kenthuang436 Yessss
That and it makes her personality more than just…..girl.

Oh hey Bruva-WAIT HUH
Bruva Alfabusa! A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one!
Imagine if Scrappy was in that movie and also aged. Maybe Warner Brothers was right. The world might not be ready for old Scrappy...
@@OnlineVideoSurfer it’s easy what happend the live action movies.
Nah. It's just the Gang were basically fully grown adults already. Like a 17 year old and the same 17 year old at 25 years look more similar than a 12 year old vs himself at 17
Actually, they aged the gang down from 18-early 20s back into high schoolers (I'd guess 17ish)
I thought that "the gang" are just manifestations of Shaggy's power and memories.
Hey, this is 2020. I wouldn't rule out the ghost of George Washington yelling at the presenter of a NASA unveiling party.
I mean the new Scooby Doo show had the ghost of Lincoln guest star
My personal headcanon is that Scrappy's fearless attitude and adoration of Scooby eventually led him to grow up into an absolutely jacked ghost hunter who regularly punches actual supernatural creatures through walls.
Doesn't that actually happen in one of the comics. XD

My situation as well (first paragraph)
The reason why Scrappy gets so much is because Hannah Barbera try to make him the new face of the franchise instead of keeping him as a supporting character!
i always thought scrappy and flim flam and scrappy and matches were two really good combo's
Supernatural things in Scooby-Doo? Arguably the coolest shit. As a kid it always gave me the "oh shit" vibes
I agree! Scrappy needs comes back and be made likable again! No more impressing his ignorant haters!
I think Daphne was always smart, but she just never got her chance to prove herself.
She was just Danger-prone
Same. I hate it when people say Daphne was dumb because she never was in the original.
The Movie isn't in the same continuity though.
I actually had an idea for a Scrappy Doo movie that addresses Scrappy as a character without being maliciously humorous about it. Anyone wanna hear?

@@freedomchaser9664 Alright. But I must warn you, its a bit lengthy, so bare with me.
TITLE: "Scrappy"
STUDIO: Warner Bros. Animation
DISTRIBUTOR: Warner Bros. Pictures
PLOT: Its business as usual for Mystery Inc, as we see them investigating an abandoned police station and setting up one of Fred's signature traps to lure and unmask their latest monster.

@@zenxiety6461 I didn't even think about that, but you're totally right.
I'd prefer if Scooby Doo went in a direction where every season, a random number of episodes are fitted into 4 categories:
1. Generic Scooby Doo formula. Oh, this ghost is fake. Here's what's really going on.
2. Oh crap! The ghost was actually REAL! And it's evil! What do we do now?! (Resolved by finding a way to neutralize or escape the ghost)
3. Oh crap! The ghost was actually REAL! But wait. It's friendly? Why is it here and if it doesn't want to be here, how do we help it pass on/rest/become not-an-issue? (sometimes criminals or people with bad intentions could be the real problem)
4. Keep it vague if you want.)
The numbers other than 1 were actually done a few times, but the point is that if used more often, with these formulas, the creators can keep you interested and guessing.
This actually sounds pretty interesting
I love your idea!
And maybe the fake first end up being a good guy

Scrappy during the 1983-1988 shows and movies was a genuinely good character, but people only remember his early days in 1979-1982, where he was a bit rough around the edges and could be annoying sometimes, and the 2002 live-action movie, which ruined and derailed Scrappy to shit, it was horrible. there are some that were really bad though, robots in disguise 2015 was legit awful, i think the live action films are pretty infamous but i think the third one is my least favorite.
most of the other series have really good and really bad moments but aren’t unwatchable. at least if you’re into the robot cars/animals/whatever else they can turn into, there’s always a tiny bit of entertainment seeing how other people want to add to the extensive character list or interpret certain things and events.

No..... No, that's not........ my God, it is true. We need to start a petition to get more pets for Scooby.
Yeah pets and Scooby Snacks
Nooo, this is cursed
The last part, that is
That last part makes me want to burn out my eyes due to how cursed that image is
z o i n k s
Yeah, I can see him vibrating in bed lol Not to mention, the skinny guys are always hung as hell. But I'd still rather have Fred. I like muscles on a man.
"Cemetaries are out! O-W-T, out!"
Wow, the gang really is illiterate.
It's quite clear WB to this day is scared to put scrappy in any new scooby-doo media thinking they will lose money if they do even though you'd think their main target audience would be unaware of the stigma against the character
Too many old people in charge who grew up with the worst of Scrappy.
I love Goul School and Reluctant Warewolf. Really shows off Shaggy's other hobbies other than gymnastics.
Fan theory says, the episodes with the real monsters take place in an alternate universe. Especially if Shaggy wears red.
That's dumb
@@dragonlordthekingofdragons6373 Same goes with, Ghoul School, Reluctant Werewolf, Boo Brothers, as well as the first three video movies.
I think Film Theory actually did an episode about this.
@@CrimsonNineTail Ghoul School clearly takes place in the OK KO universe. Can’t say for the others, though.
But what about curse of the 13th ghost? Is that in the same alternate timeline but with Fred and Velma? The monster was fake in that movie
"Look at Fred. Such a good christian boy"
I dont why that got me, but good god, I had to pause the video I was laughing so hard.
**edit: I laughed even harder at the Daphne and Shaggy conspiracy with Simple Plan playing in the background**
Same this is the material I needed in 2020
What do you think would be people’s reactions if we got a show where Scrappy navigated a city during a societal breakdown, trying to find the Mystery Gang, not to simply get to safety but to deliver them something.
I'd love to see Scrappy return. They pretty much cancelled him completely which is sad.
So sorta like Scooby Apocalypse? The AU comic that's canon.
@@NatetheNerdy Scrappy is fuckin metal in that.
@@professionalhimbo I wasn't ready for him to go on a revenge quest to kill Scooby.
Daphne and Shaggy definitely hang out more than anyone else in the group. Romantically? Platoniclly? Who cares? Their energy from this era is powerful, and whenever they interact in the newer shows, I'm reminded of it.
As a Canadian these were the Scooby episodes I remember seeing most often outside the original series.
Remember how Teletoon would play the whole series every October on the lead up to Halloween? Simpler times...
16:10 Weerd and Bogal
The Team Rocket of Scooby-Doo
I LOVE this season of Scooby Doo!!! Daphne‘s hair is iconic
I agree with you.
Flim-Flam suffers from the same problem as early Scrappy; great in theory, but poorly executed.
As a kid I thought the journeys of Shaggy and Daphne in Eastern Europe, with their dogs, was their honeymoon
I like reporter Daphne. There's just no room for bullshit when she's around.
I am not ashamed to admit that I genuinely love Scrappy. The hate he gets is overblown in my opinion.
I remember them showing that on TBS at 7am when I was in 2nd and 3rd grade. Always loved that show.
Yeah they would play Scooby Doo and even that weird xomputer animated Johnny Quest show. Remember getting up early in the morning to watch both of them and maybe play some Genesis.
I love Vincent Price so freaking much
12:22 wait people legit hate flim-flam? Aside from his admittedly stupid name, I thought he was a fun addition
yeah he does get under people's skin its just in comparison to scrappy who was an integral part of scooby doo for a decade giving him a good amount more material to annoy people who didn't like him, while flim-flam was isolated to one 13 episode show so the hate is as prevalent
We need to stop hating on scrappy Doo!!! The little puppy does not deserve this. Bring back scrappy!!!
@David Blyth
The recent show, Be Cool Scooby Doo (my favourite version) had a lot of Fred/Velma and Shaggy/Daphne hints in it (even though they kept all of them as just friends throughout the show).
BTW, after the 1987-88 TV movies, here's a complete list of all the other animated Scooby-Doo shows and movies you can do:
The New Scooby-Doo Movies (1972-4)
The Scooby-Doo Show (1976-78)
Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get a Clue! (2006-08)
Be Cool, Scooby-Doo (2015-18)
Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? (2019-?)
All movies from Scooby-Doo and the Legend of the Vampire (2003) to the present; 31 have been released, according to Wikipedia.
The Daphne + Shaggy ship is very underrated.
*Santa Shaggy:* We got you a big old Christmas star! Right here in my sack.
*The Ghost of Christmas Never:* Really?!
*Scrappy straight up kicks her into the sack when she goes to look.*
Absolute savage.
I honestly can't associate ”the Curse of the 13th Ghost” movie as a canon finale. It felt too much like it was based on an alternate history version of 13 Ghosts.
I miss Scrappy. I love his energy and how he balance Scooby.
Me too
@@fro-zone2k So do I.
7:05-7:10 - The Creature Came from Chem Lab wasn’t actually from the New Scooby-Doo Mysteries; it was from the previous season (you can tell by the music at the title card).
14:33 this should be a Syfy B-rated monster movie like those over 500 shark movies and 600 zombie movies
8:33 is also such a weirdly gentle and subdued shove.
At this point I think Scrappy is being erased out of the scooby-doo universe and I'm really sad about it
Here's something interesting. Jon Colton Barry, one of the showrunners for Be Cool Scooby Doo, mentioned how he tried incorporating him into the Halloween episode from season 2, but he had to cut him out.
mobile.twitter.com/joncoltonbarry/status/1319177450954186752
Scrappy is erased, he's just ignored until it's time to make a joke about how much he sucked. Which is kind of sad.
I started to ramble but the basic comment is yeah same:
I know I'd love them to bring him back and maybe talk about that he was the most annoying little kid/pup but has really gotten decent as he's gotten older. Like "oh this is why we split up/ make traps/keep smart people around/ travel together (an episode where a member just doesn't show up/goes to the wrong place is hilarious to me)
Scrappy Survived and is kind of a recurring character in the Scooby Apocalypse comics, where he seems to hate Scooby and wants to murder him.
@@PurpleFoxValon wait there is a scooby apocalypse comic ? I need to read this
Finally someone that thinks Shaggy and Daphne were together! I’m not the only one!
Thank Billiam! Also cool video 👍🏽
aw you had a perfect opportunity to do the family guy "play me off jonny!" gag!
23:40 thank you for resolving my theory that shaggy and daphne were together😂in a marvelous rant
Okay I love this. A great analysis of why this works well. Also I think I saw the 13 ghosts series growing up on boomerang (holy fuck we're the same age) and I've low-key been a shaphne guy ever since. Gotta love those life shaping ships haha! Thanks for the content man!
That eras Daphne was probably some of the best Daphne
My fav touch in the curse of the 13th ghost is when Vincent tells them they found the 13th ghost and everyone gets so scared, and Velma and Fred just look at each other awkwardly. Very neat touch.
It's just the Instagram Queen and her sweaty gamer boyfriend.
That's one was to describe Shaggy and Daphne
This was my first series and why Shaggy and Daphne will always be my OTP.
