      @@CastledarkDweller27 I appreciate the interest. I was 480 pounds 30 years ago. Still 460 pounds 10 years ago. I've been mostly vegetarian for 10 years with regrettably months of regaining in between. At this point lousy food (What John McDougall aptly calls "Food Poisoning") thoroughly repulses me. I'm committed to a life without food poisoning. I love my salad, Veggie soup. Strawberries with Almond Milk. 270 lbs today. I wanna break 200. Thanx again. Very kind of you to say. All the best to you !!! (I wish I could post before and after pics. Pretty startling)

    My wife and I went plant based 1 year 2 months ago, I lost 55 pounds, still being able to eat all day, working construction, and have more energy than when I ate meat. Countless positive changes in our bodies, best thing I’ve ever done next to marrying my amazing wife. I'm glad Doug talked about stomach stretch receptors not being the end all, be all. I can have pounds of veggies, which are bulky, in my stomach and feel "stuffed" but still starving if there aren't other macro-nutrients. And...thank God Rip was able to help the young child!

    • @wishingb5859
      @wishingb5859 3 роки тому +8

      Atheria, I also felt stuffed but starving and it is only recently that my eating Whole Food Plant-Based led to any weight loss at all. I remember watching "How to Lose Weight Without Losing Your Mind" years ago and thought "Wow, I can just go off of dairy and oils and I will lose weight." but it didn't work. Dr. Greger's tweaks from "How Not to Diet" actually helped me. It turns out that the fact that I work late and eat late was causing blood sugar spikes and rebound hunger. On top of not sleeping and all of those were increasing my insulin resistance. For me, amla powder in capsules and apple cider vinegar took away the blood sugar spikes and rebound hunger and I started experiencing satiety for the first time in my Whole Food Plant-Based walk. I had felt stuffed but starving followed by rebound hunger the whole time but the tweaks Dr. G gave and the amla and apple cider vinegar gave me satiety and removed all blood sugar issues and now I am losing weight. I lost 3 pounds the first week I added the tweaks and I lost another 3 pounds this week and the appetite is getting better. It feels like my stretch receptors just started working but I think my brain is seeing the leptin because I don't have insulin resistance in the way.

      Same!

    • @stevevuoso8411
      @stevevuoso8411 3 роки тому

      Stretch receptors do nothing to regulate body weight. They are simply there to prevent you from vomiting. Your stomach needs a way to signal to your brain that it is full so you don't keep trying to stuff food into it.

    • @wishingb5859
      @wishingb5859 3 роки тому +6

      @@stevevuoso8411 Yes. What I will say is that after I dealt with insulin resistance, my stretch receptors "worked" in that before I dealt with the insulin resistance, I would still feel starving after eating 7 cups of the potato and broccoli soup that I had made and then I would also have rebound hunger. After dealing with it, I feel full after 3-1/2 cups of similar food and I am more aware of the stomach feeling full as a sensation. The brain hunger and rebound hunger from sugar spikes leading to too much insulin were much, much, much stronger "hunger" impulses.

    I just started succeeding in losing weight 4 years after I started trying (3 of those were after discovering plant-based) It had been so frustrating. Calorie-density didn't do anything for me. I switched off of dairy and got rid of soda and junk food and eggs and stopped cooking with vegetable oils and no matter how much I did I didn't lose weight. Until now. Dr. Greger's tweaks helped me and I realize now that I was seriously insulin resistant and some of it was because I work late and eat dinner late at night and some of it is because I don't sleep. Now, eating almost the exact same food, but adding in Amla and Apple Cider vinegar and the spices, my appetite is coming down and I have stopped having re-bound hunger from blood sugar spikes. It makes sense because Dr. Greger taught that eating a low glycemic index food at night can spike like a high glycemic index food. This week is the first week I have experienced satiety in Whole Food Plant-Based and I started losing weight. Last year I remember eating 7 cups of broccoli potato soup and still feeling hungry followed by hunger rebound from the blood sugar spike but after the apple cider vinegar and amla, I finally have working stretch receptors. How Not to Diet caused Whole Food Plant-Based to finally work for me.

      I'm same as you. What I found is that when I switched to a 50/50 plate for every meal (50% non-starchy veg and 50% starch) with a little overt fat, plus taking lugol's iodine daily for thyroid, and magnesium complex at night for sleep, I started to feel AMAZING with the no oil, WFPB only diet. Total appetite chill. I've now started rebounding with high intensity daily and WOW! I'm shrinking a little everyday. I have had massive massive stress in my life, especially for the last 15 years and besides adrenal exhaustion and poor sleep, I was subclinically hypothyroid, perimenopausal and I believe severely insulin resistant and had been compensating for all that with alcohol, sugar, and basically whatever whenever. Not all the time and not as much as some, but enough to gain 55 pounds. But doing the above, I am normalizing and feeling great. One other word. Many say that you can easily lose weight SOS free, WFPB without exercise. I severely beg to differ. We need healthy movement, and rebounding is a really important one, not for calorie burning or even muscle toning (although that happens as a great side benefit), because it moves lymph, detoxifies every cell, increases circulation and oxygen to cells. This is vital for health, healing, weight loss, detox, lowering inflammation, making the brain work better and increasing insulin sensitivity. So while I appreciate all these plant based pros, they are not addressing the whole picture. Most people are severely iodine deficient also, and have toxic halides that are causing all kinds of inflammation (chlorine, fluoride, bromide) and we need iodine to detox those, plus severe magnesium deficiencies which impact sleep, mood, basically everything. So we need to address the big picture. Peace!

    • @wishingb5859
      @wishingb5859 3 роки тому +5

      @@PropheticCoachTheresa Yeah, the iodine deficiency and insulin resistance affected things the whole time. My appetite cut literally in half when I added amla to normalize my blood sugar. I had hoped going plant-based alone would do that. I think I could probably go off the amla now but I am staying on it until I reach my goal. The iodine is so important. Can't lose much weight without a functioning thyroid.

      Are you asking if Rip still has athletic performance? He sure does - in fact, he recently set the World Record in swimming for the 200 meter backstroke for men age 55-59.

      Get a book like the Forks Over Knives Plan, the Engine 2 Diet or any of the plant-based books out there, and eat according to their plans. Or you can go to www.forksoverknives.com website and check out the info for beginners. There are tons of recipes on there, too!

    Air-fry remove water, making food more calories dense? What impact will this make for weight loss? Talk shows difference btw bread or pasta. Asking, idea just occurred to me,

    • @74griffo
      @74griffo 3 роки тому

      You’ll need more of it to feel full so will eat more calories, basically

    • @CastledarkDweller27
      @CastledarkDweller27 2 роки тому +1

      yes you'd think so hey? cos airfrying is extracting water & that DOES have to make cals more dense doesnt it? but i gotta say it made no diff to me. my weight loss continued at same rate regardless of whether i cooked my everyday veges & spuds (& weekly tofu/tempeh) in my new air fryer or on a silpat in oven.

    I love dr. lisle and I think he's right about this. Don't agree w/ his evolutionary biology outlook on life, but it's true, the reason people are fat is because they eat too many foods high in calorie density. Save those foods for special occasions!

    I came into watching this without any preconceived notions but it left me wondering if it is just a promotion for the True North center the speaker is apparently affiliated. The biology part of the presentation is useful to understand for someone on the way to a healthier eating. But emotion portion seems oversimplified (the answer ‘memory’ to the question about cravings). It is more complicated for majority of the people than just removing calorie dense food from your kitchen and ‘forgetting’ these foods. There are people who will grab their keys and drive to a New Castle. And they and the other folks will continue being bombarded with unhealthy food choices everywhere. Building memory of heathy eating? How? By going into True North where the food environment is under a tight control? Doesn’t that just create repeat customers if people do not learn how to cope with emotional eating? I hope I am wrong and this presentation is not what it appears to me.

    • @user-bq7mw1se8j
      @user-bq7mw1se8j 2 роки тому +2

      The people that you are talking about who will drive to New Castle may need extra help at a place like True North. When they go there, their taste buds will adjust and become unadulterated because they wouldn’t be eating any junk food at all. After a while, the fruits and vegetables start tasting really good.
