here's the thing. Saitama is a hero with no body to sacrifice. he can't be broken, hurt, or beat in any way. So when Sea King is dead and everyone begins to turn on the fallen heroes who gave it their all in the face of death to hold him off and protect the civilians, Saitama sacrifices the one remaining thing he can as a disenchanted unbeatable hero, he sacrifices his humility and pride. he calls himself a cheater and convinces everyone that he just finished it off, so that all the other heroes can get the respect they deserve for their actions.
If it weren't for the earlier heroes; stinger, lightning max, purri purri prisoner, snek and the B's and C's in the shelter, Genos and Munmen Rider, all those civilians would be dead. but the people don't see that sacrifice, they only see a single C class and a dead monster. saitama corrects their view and takes none of the glory at the end of the day, because for him it really was nothing. a single punch is less than some of the throwaway monsters get, and saitama didn't even show up in time to actually save everyone. all those heros could have been saved if he got there sooner. in the end, he failed to save everyone, and took none of the glory for it, like a true hero should.
if you think to his backstory, saitama wasn't much different than Mumen at one point. an average guy with average abilties and hero's heart throwing himself into impossible fights for nothing. perhaps Saitama will be the strongest hero ranking above even Blast, but both him and Mumen can share the seat of truest hero.

Saitama is such an amazing character to me because it's impressive how a parody character who runs counter to the cliches of the genre can become so much more than just that. Saitama shows the human experience through the lens of the strongest man alive, he has what many desire most- but it doesn't grant him happiness. If anything, his strength, his power became a burden- making life dull. This can be replaced with any other example of abundance. The great things in life are great because they're rare- we have to fight to get it. if everything is just handed to you, you have no problems to solve, challenges to overcome... what's the point? Challenge gives meaning.
That also shows the heart of Saitama and why he's probably one of the most inherently good MCs in the genre. His life is dull, he's depressed, he hates his own strength to the point he hates his life...but, he never stopped. he remained a hero, batting away those who would threaten the world or even just a single person. He sacrifices his own happiness to ensure everyone else can have a chance at having what he can't.
That's the mark of a true hero.

The fact that he took all the blame while fighting the deep sea king so that the other heroes don't get disrespected for their bravery is just so emotional. A strong person never falters to help his fellow ppl, even if it means losing his dignity in the eyes of people.

I love how the end of the fight with Boros has this song. The main character just defeated a villain that had already killed thousands and planned to destroy the planet and yet they decide to plan a sad (yet hopeful) song. Somehow the defeat of Boros isn't triumphant. Saitama didn't get the challenge he wished for and equally Boros' love for fighting was rekindled for him only to discover he never stood a chance. God I love this theme.

It's so interesting here. If you think about it, Boros wins in the end. Not the battle itself obviously but in a more non literal sense. He died, but he died fighting someone at his full power, giving it everything he had. I don't think he was particularly bummed about dying. Imagine if he had won. The battle is over and back to depression he goes with nothing but a memory for comfort. Here he dies fulfilled. Saitama didn't get that though. He got another disappointment who couldn't even break his skin. Boros feels more alive than Saitama here. So who really won

It's sad really, Saitama realized that Boros is just like him, a man tortured by strength and dissatisfaction, Saitama knows his pain, and drags out the fight for him, allowing Boros the fight saitama could never have. in the end Boros informs saitama that he knew all along Saitama was holding back, and that's when the feels hit, Boros sees that Saitama is struggling like him and says "you were too strong". Saitama is such a unique character, I dare say he is more interesting than Goku
(of Goku ever fights Saitama I would want it to end with Saitama telling him that strength isn't always a good thing, After all, the wolf on the top of the hill is never as hungry as the wolf climbing the hill)

If you ask me goku's personality is just like saibtama's except he has strong guys he can fight. Allowing him to push his limits and get stronger. Also he has a rival that's always right behind him. If goku stopped vegeta or some other dude such as hit or some guy would catch up and beat him, making him push fatser. (were as sound o sonic is not a ligit rival). I don't think goku is supposed to ever be that far up the hill or in fact its could be a endless hill since someone gonna get stronger with him , Or someone come out much stronger than him. Saibtama doesn't have that. If goku fought saibtama I actually want it to be close, allowing saibtama to have the fight he was waiting for...

Ridiculous how this anime manages to make you feel for the one character who arguably has what everybody else in the series strives for.
Everybody just wants power for their own reasons, but the one man who has that power wishes for nothing more than to be challenged by somebody, anybody.
That last scene where Boros realizes that the entire battle was just a farce really hit me, man.
Mike Litoris It was the complete intention of the creator to convey emotion during this scene. Having Boros be the true antagonist of the season finale and how hard he fought just to fall was all to show, in the end, noone got what they wanted.

But the fight wasn't about winning or losing, it was about fighting. And now that he's dying, he doesn't have to go back to the loneliness and boredom that was his depression before fighting saitama. Boros was on a suicide mission to begin with. If he had beaten saitama he would've just kept looking. But he got his fight. Saitama doesn't get that
@@fangsabre I don't know about that. Boros seemed despondent when he uttered his last words. He never said that he found his match, he was dissapointed that the fight was so one sided. But nevertheless, I do believe that he enjoyed it at least somewhat eventhough it wasn't what he wanted. He got to go all out after all.
