Same. The first episode I got to see in my younger years was Tight Squeeze. I thought it was a bit strange, but after watching it again, I was hooked. And I loved it.
I'd put it up there as the third best Spidey show. Only having a single season held it back from reaching the heights of the 1994 show and Spectacular, but its much better than any other Spidey show other than those two
I also agree the reason was the 1994 series editing 90 spin on the original comic stories of Spider-Man from the origin story to the foundation of the Sinister 6 to kingpin being a major side villain his interaction with other superheroes in the city who have been around a lot longer than him. As well as fan favorites Venom Green and Hob goblin Aunt May suffering health wise and Harry taking the mantle of his father, these were just a few things shown that make it better than most if not all the other series that came after it.
MTV never formally canceled the show. There’s a bit more to why it never got a second season. First, the show was pretty much in the can for a year before they decided to start airing it, they decided they didn’t want it after they bought it, but still had to justify the spending for it and/or were obligated to do so after purchasing. Initially, they aired two new episodes every Friday, in hopes of burning through the series in just a couple months. It ended up being a surprise ratings hit, so 2-3 weeks in they brought it down to one new episode per Friday and the previous week’s episode. The problem was that the show fell into limbo, because due to their waiting way too long to air it, and determine it was a hit, contracts expired, and the show’s brain trust were attached to other projects. The show was a victim of hesitancy, and not poor viewership.

I remember this show when I saw it on UA-cam even re watching the episodes. Spider man the new animated series had awesome music It would have been based on ultimate spider-man comics before it got change. Still my favorite show wish it had a second season.
I personally preferred the 1994 series as a kid, though this one was a close second. My dad on the other hand, despite not really being a comic book fan, absolutely adored this series and would rent the DVD of the full series fairly regularly back when movie stores were a thing. By the time I was in middle school, my mind catalogued Spider-Man: The New Animated Series as being not only “the grown-up’s Spider-Man show,” but also possibly what managed to open the door for him to embrace the Marvel Cinematic Universe when it started in 2008. We’d then religiously followed the MCU for every film all the way through to Endgame.
Excellent commentary as always! I finally got to watch the full season of this series thanks to streaming. This was a good attempt at an edgy, "adult"-style. Although it was good to finally see a confirmed sexually active Peter Parker :), I think it was a little too dark. (No one wants to see Peter throw a woman from a building and have that young woman, his love interest, put into a coma.) Notice how Greg Weisman's "Spectacular," the successor series, fixes *all* of the problems of all of the previous Spidey animated outings!
I love this show! I watched it when it aired. I was disappointed that it never continued. I'm glad I got the DVD. I rewatch it often. I hope more and more people give it the attention it deserves.
I remember browsing all the music channels looking for music videos to watch and finding this on MTV 😂. I had thought at the time it was trying way too hard to be hip.
I think I only ever managed to catch bits of the Lizard episode. Stumbled across the show once and never really heard anything about it, including when it was on, so it quickly went out of mind for me.
I remember watching this as a kid. I really liked MJ's design, but I thought Peter looked too cool 4 school. Makes me wonder if the Amazing Spiderman movies took inspiration in his design lol
I love this series, it's almost as good as the 94 series, which is my favourite, I love the art/animation, which is something I find off putting with the fan favourite "Spectacular Spider-Man"
i was quite devastated that i did not get a conclusion and the ending we got was so sad. Just leaves a bad taste in your mouth in a very unsatisfying way. Just reminds me of spider man unlimited. Shame that spidey shows always seem to get stopped before they get going. Makes me appreciate that the og TAS got to its ending. Just imagine if they stopped that show after season 1.
I loved this series and I think that, just like the first spiderman series and Spectacular Spiderman, it desperately needed at least one more final season. I re-watched my dvd of it just about a year ago now actually. This one's darker tone made it just that bit different, and I think they would have done well taking this tone to the films...
Counterpoint to a lot of people: I despised this show as a kid. Was supposed to be Sam Raimi adjacent yet felt nothing like Raimi's Spider-Man. No-one felt "normal" enough, everyone was far too stylized.

Oh yes! This, 90s Spider Man Animated Show and Spectacular Spider Man are my favourite Spidey Shows! Unlimited was alright, loved the unique design of that show but the story lacked for me but still a decent watch.
when i did work on my take on the after effect of Gwen stacy death i borrow the idea of peter putting his spider-man suit in a suit case and getting rif of it in the river as a homepage to that part of the final episode of the new animated series but with the hobgoblin saga wanted to work on a new spider-man suit as i had a rule set up for once a saga with a main villain was over peter would have a new spider-man suit for eatch story as with the hobgoblin saga would have the underarm webs and the white spider logo from the ps4 game but had it that the white spider logo as a symbol that peter was still recovering from Gwen death

I always assumed the show wasn't a continuation to the Raimi movie, but rather, its own thing.
I think I only ever managed to catch bits of the Lizard episode. Stumbled across the show once and never really heard anything about it, including when it was on, so it quickly went out of mind for me.
Yeah oddly enough this was the Spider-Man show I grew up watching because it was the only one we had on dvd. Very underrated in my opinion
My dad loved this lmaoo
I had a VHS with a couple of episodes many years ago, the Electro episode was my favorite but always scared me
I remember watching this as a kid. I really liked MJ's design, but I thought Peter looked too cool 4 school. Makes me wonder if the Amazing Spiderman movies took inspiration in his design lol
I love this series, it's almost as good as the 94 series, which is my favourite, I love the art/animation, which is something I find off putting with the fan favourite "Spectacular Spider-Man"
I had the dvd for this show when I was a little kid and it had the trailer for the Cowboy bepop movie and the anime movie Metropolis
Watching this show reminded me of iron man armored adventures. Such a underrated show . Could u do a review on as well too please?
I had a DVD episode it showed Electritro and Black Cat that's all mostly
I have 2 DVD's of this since I was a kid
I loved this show as a kid.
You’re one of my favorite content creators, but you aren’t who I thought you were.
Why is that haha?
This and spider man unlimited are so overlooked
Seeing the animation of MTV’s Spider-Man awfully reminds me of the graphics from Killer7, especially with the 3D cutscenes.
i was quite devastated that i did not get a conclusion and the ending we got was so sad.
The Punisher movie is also supposed to be in the same universe as those. (The movie I’m talking about is the one with John Travolta)
I loved this series and I think that, just like the first spiderman series and Spectacular Spiderman, it desperately needed at least one more final season. I re-watched my dvd of it just about a year ago now actually. This one's darker tone made it just that bit different, and I think they would have done well taking this tone to the films...
I think I have this series on DVD somewhere
Counterpoint to a lot of people: I despised this show as a kid. Was supposed to be Sam Raimi adjacent yet felt nothing like Raimi's Spider-Man. No-one felt "normal" enough, everyone was far too stylized.
@OLC / Grand Video Lad! Which begs the question, what IS your Favorite Spider-Man Animated Show. Or your top three, From 3 least important to 1, most important. A future YT vídeo suggestion. Thank you.
This and the Ultimate Spider-man, underappreciated gems 😘👌
Oh yes! This, 90s Spider Man Animated Show and Spectacular Spider Man are my favourite Spidey Shows! Unlimited was alright, loved the unique design of that show but the story lacked for me but still a decent watch.
I had a boot leg seasons one dvd of this lol watched it when I was in 1st grade
A masterpiece.
It wasnt forgotten by me
The animation looks like that of a video game
This is one Spider-Man show I had always watched on mtv at the time and it was good. It's a shame that it didn't last that long.
when i did work on my take on the after effect of Gwen stacy death i borrow the idea of peter putting his spider-man suit in a suit case and getting rif of it in the river as a homepage to that part of the final episode of the new animated series but with the hobgoblin saga wanted to work on a new spider-man suit as i had a rule set up for once a saga with a main villain was over peter would have a new spider-man suit for eatch story as with the hobgoblin saga would have the underarm webs and the white spider logo from the ps4 game but had it that the white spider logo as a symbol that peter was still recovering from Gwen death
