Sony really limited the later models in their Digital8 line by using lower resolution image sensors in them. Digital8 NTSC was limited to 525 TV lines (just like MiniDV) and Hi8 XR is limited to 440, although in a lot of cases Hi8 XR blows Digital8 away. Kind of funny because Sony modified their Hi8 line to have a lower resolution than Digital8, so that people would buy the more expensive Digital8 camcorders. I remember your video on the CCD-TRV138, that was one low resolution Hi8 camcorder, probably with the image sensor size drastically reduced to force it to be that bad. I find it funny that an analog camcorder from 98 is way higher performance than a Digital8 unit from 99. My DCR-TRV310 is a very early example of a Digital8 Handycam, being manufactured in Feb 1999.

Reminds me of the TRV95, my favorite Hi8 camcorder. Sizy but with a 4" lcd afterall... and the adjustable exposure while nightshot is on! ;-)

I've seen both the TRV95 and the TRV99, both of which have the huge 4" LCD display.

I know this was like four years ago, but I was thinking about something. Which out of the Hi8 XR camcorders, has the best image sensor? Of course it would have to include Hi-Fi stereo audio, the 4'' LCD screen, and the unmodified NightShot. I want your opinion, or the information you know about it. :D

@@horrortimeproductions5504 Hi.. I have the Sony CCD-TRV65 and it is regarded as one of the best Hi8 XR.. I have 2 of them and can tell you it beats a few Digital 8 units I have with picture in both day time and night time.. It's a fab camera even in 2020!

I HAVE THIS CAMCORDER AND THE 615 BOTH MINT THE THE 615 I BOUGHT OF EBAY FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER HE JUST PUT IT IN THE SONY CASE I HAVE 6 PANASONIC 3 CHIP PRO CAMCORDERS AND A FEW OTHER MINI DV CAMCORDERS IM AN INDIE FILMMAKER I STILL USE MY HI8 FOR SOME STUFF HAVE 10 BATTERIES FOR THESE SOME BRAND NU SOME ORIGINAL GREAT CAMCORDERS

Would someone be so kind as to take 1 minute to clarify a problem with video playback?
I have a problem with a camcorder.
Indeed, I recovered old hi8 and 8mm k7s in order to review some memories, so I bought a second-hand Sony Handycam Hi8 CDD-Trv95 NTSC camcorder. (all the buttons are in Japanese:!) works very well I can read new K7 Hi8s but not my old Hi8 and 8mm. therefore impossible to read them ... it starts up, but I have a blue screen.
I wonder why I can't read these tapes when they are good too.
On the other hand, the images of my old K7s only appear in quick reading.
What is the motive?
