I think they're pretty darn cool kits. Though personally I view it more as an actual hybrid. I'd use the acoustic sounds blended with triggers if needed. Gives you tons of options. Looks sharp and is a good price too! Great vid as usual J.

I jist got the TD27 and its unbelievably amazing. The amount of customization and sound editing possibilities are endless, i love this kit.

I have the drum hybrid.. I use my Roland td-9 for drums . I use Evans ec-2 and also my pork pie snare, a custom hi hats, Zildjian cymbals.. I only had to mess with the td-9 a little bit to get the right trigger set up and all that.. I'm really loving it, I have the acoustic feel and e-kit on my drums..
I bought the DDrum Hybrid 5 kit 22” bass14”x6 snare,10”/12” tom’s and 16” floor!
I bought the kit for the second reason you mention!
I got it because it’s beautiful and i wanted an acoustic kit with the Edrum option!
I’ll be unboxing it tomorrow along with testing the triggers at GCenter before i bring it home and further review it.
The XLR outs are so the cables lock in vs a 1/4” jack which can easily be pulled out!
From 2016 until 2018 I toured the states with a Ddrum Hybrid CK. This was the five piece version with two toms mounted on the bass drum and all Birch shells. I used acoustic cymbals and Remo Ambassador drum heads with 2 Roland TM2’s modules. The XLR to 1/4” were great because they never fell out while playing and the Drums were just fine mic’d live. I did add a shell trigger for rim shots on the snare but again as a true acoustic electric hybrid it was a great solid night after night easy set up and tear down touring kit. The only part that sucked was the ball tom mount kept pulling out of the bass drum pole when moving the drum set. I bought the kit new for pretty cheap in 2016 and toured it util 2018 and then sold it for about 3/4 of my purchase price. I really liked it, Thanks

Regarding the XLR outputs: I really like that they used XLR instead of TRS. It is much more durable and if you have to buy cables anyway, getting XLR to TRS is basically the same as getting TRS to TRS. And XLR is just superior. Great video, by the way!

I recently converted my acoustic drum kit into an electric drum kit using the Yamaha DTX conversion kit. All I had to do was swap my drum heads with silent stroke heads and add the Yamaha drum triggers to each drum (and plug this into the DTX502 module). Also change my cymbals with the Yamaha ones. Works perfect for me and I love the kit. The module has lots of drum kits and sounds and is very customisable. From tuning, to decay, sensitivity, drum voices etc. Also, the drum triggers are duel zone which is great. I would highly recommend Yamaha to anyone having any doubts. Costs about £1000 roughly for the Yamaha conversion pack (without the drum shells or hardware). My original acoustic kit was a Pearl Export kit.
You could have done it for less than half price and got your triggers from Jobeky, diamond, UFO, RDrum etc etc
Great one. But don't forget about Diamond Electronic Drums ;) He has some VERY reasonable kit options and his are fully handmade. Triggers and everything. Unlike Jobeky he makes his own shells too.
Could be a good kit for (home-)recording studios where the triggers are only to be used for controlling gates or triggering additional samples to support the recorded sound of the acoustic shells. In fact, a lot of studios do this with external triggers.
I was seriously considering buying one of these kits myself when I was trying to figure out how to get back into e-drums two years ago. But I decided not to for all the reasons you laid out.
Hey, Justin love your channel, you give a lot of info. What do you think about extreme drum triggers for a bass drum? Doing a conversion with a tight budget I plan to use the Yamaha DTX502 module and I am looking for all the bargains I can get.

To be fair. Ddrum triggers have always been XLR outputs. I mean to say the older style triggers. I had them back in 2006. Sure you can get the other triggers with TRS style.
I own the hybrid Ck and have replaced it with far more reliable and consistent pintech pads. The hybrid ddrum kits are very cool, but can be an enormous pain in the ass to get properly dialed in. The triggers are cheap, the xlr jacks are also a bit of a pain. If what you want is to use regular heads and run your triggers into a module to augment your Tom sounds in a live setting, I could see that being handy and not too difficult to pull off. Overall, I found it to be a cool idea that isn’t terribly well executed. The hybrid ck (the really small one) does sound really great with regular heads on it. Sounds really tight and punchy. The shells are actually pretty darn nice. Surprisingly so. When I was still using mine regularly I had it outfitted with three ply prism heads, which did drastically help with my triggering issues, but overall I found the kit to be more trouble than it was worth. If you’re gonna spend the money on it and you don’t already have e drum components, I’d highly recommend just getting a td17 or something similar.

Bought this kit used on FBMP for $200. Sensors were mostly dead so that's why it was cheap.
I replaced all the triggers with Roland foam cones with piezo sensors. It works great.
White mesh heads on black/red shell just looks MAD!!! Looks phenomenol, with black cymbals.

I built my electronic kit using info. from Justin's video. It was soooo much help! It was not hard to do at all! Roughly 7k later and it's very sweet! Yeah I went with expensive stuff - took me a while to save up for it all though! The top expensive items were the Tama Starclassic performer B/B( I already had this as an acoustic), Mimic Pro, ATV 18" ride, VH-11, SPDX and Trick Bigfoot double pedals. My advice is to go with cheaper, decent looking shells since they don't make a difference in sound. You don't have to spend near that much for a sweet setup! I probably shouldn't have : )
I don’t think they’re actually red shots. According to 66samus, he stated that Ddrum directly told him they are equivalent to the higher end silver triggers in his video where he reviews the hybrid ddrum snare
I would have gone with the gen16 cymbals but other then that, yeah sweet set up.
I do agree with the idea that this should go into an interface directly to a DAW
I just found a used ddrum hybrid kick drum for $100. Gonna be a perfect addition once I throw a mesh head on it.
I wish I would have seen this video before purchasing the ddrum hybrid kit. I was looking for alternatives to the ddrum hybrid kit and never heard of the Jobeky drums until I saw your video. Don't get me wrong, the hybrid kit has been good so far and I've been using it with ezdrummer2 sounds to make the videos on my channel, but recently my trigger in the snare just went out. Could this be because of the silent stroke 1 ply mesh heads I'm using? Thanks for making great informative content and you now have a new subscriber!
Yeah the hybrid idea really is just that. Great for someone doing covers gigs who wants to reinforce the sound of their drums through the PA using a module instead of setting up and EQing a load of mics and stands, and taking up a load of channels on the mixer.
And great for recoding stuff like metal where you can get bleed free signals to trigger software as well as the sound of a real kit in a room.
My only problem with this is, why is it only on the budget kit?

Another great option are the Yamaha 13 and 15 inch cymbals.
They're very inexpensive, feel great, have three zones and work with most modules.

Yea i did that math in april...was around $2500. So i ended up getting a TD27. Really wanted the VAD306 but sweetwater didn't have it in stock. Its June and they don't have it. Thought about Jobeky n Drumtec but was worried about shipping rates and taxes and tariffs.
Hi Justin, love your videos, they were my main resource in choosing my first drumkit. Just one little pet peeve: you seem to call all holes where you plug in a cable, inputs. But some of those are outputs. It's all about whether information goes in or out. So, on pads, they're OUTputs, because information is coming OUT of the pad. On the module you plug the pad into an INput, because information is going INto the module. Hope that clears it up. Again, love your videos, but this was just bugging me... :)

Would you say the alesis dm10 or strike pro modules would be a great grab for this kind of set up? I'm looking for a unit with individual quarter inch jacks for additional cymbals and splitting if I don't have enough jacks, mainly for quite practice but also for recording.. thanks for any input!

Reason why they went with XLR connectors is quite simply for 2 reasons, Ddrum always had XLR connectors on the pro triggers and XLR is quite a bit more stable, great video as always.
But they arent really necessary and they are the only one doing it. I cant think of 1 trigger that uses them. And you need to buy a cable.

Hey mate can I ask you and your community a question, I have split numerous pads on my Roland td17kvx and the cymbal which I'm using as my splash is a cy8 but it's split with Tom 3 I turned H&R off and assigned splash to the rim and the head to the Tom. (splitters from drum tec BTW) sometimes the splash won't trigger at all and I've narrowed it down to the fact that the Tom is a pdx8 and the splash pad is a cy8 is there a way to bypass this?
I would just buy the ddrum pro trigger for snare drum. That gives me two zone. Snare & rim shoot. And le manate the inside snare trigger. Toms would be good single zone. Thanks Justin.

It was basically all over for them when they put XLR outs on the drums. I only know a tiny bit about tech but the moment I saw that I knew this product was stuffed.
What are your thoughts on the Roland TM-2 module?
Can i buy a trigger that is both a microphone when I want the complete acoustic sound, or a normal trigger when i want an effect on the sound?
One reason for a DIY approach which is never mentioned, is the learning process. It‘s fun, and one can bei proud of the result. In fact, some now well known companies started exactly like this. Also with more DIY guys around, there is a higher probability for new ideas, which benefit the electronic drum experience.
That is very true, but it's only fun if you can finish the drumset with a good result. For some drummers, it's more frustrating than fun. But for me it was worth the effort

Hi Justin, Love your channel, but in this video, I believe you missed the point. I do hear what you said in the intro-you said, people getting into E-Drums for the first time, but That's not what this kit or concept is about. XLR Connectors are the most stable and best audio cable connectors on the market. Much more stable than 1/4", especially the 1/4 plastic-encased non-changeable 1/4" that I believe most EDrums pads output. . If you're a touring drummer one would understand the XLR is necessary. Otherwise, you or your drum tech would be having to take cases of extra low end 1/4" cables around on tour to exchange on almost every other show basis. The hi-output stage vibration from side fill speakers and monitors tend to damage low-end cabling consistently. The DDRum top of the Pro Triggers is also excellent for touring, not their low-end line which you keep mentioning on your channel. I have been using DDrum top of the line Pro Triggers for over 20 years. They are beasts and they are XLR outputs and I can tell you I have used the Pro Triggers without exchanging them for a 4-year run,, road-tested They have travelled and maintained consistency. Also when using XLR output from the drums one should only use the best-shielded cables that input to one module to 1/4" metal, the casing that can be taken apart by unscrewing and fixable by sodering. I really think you missed the point of the DDrum connectivity. (If your playing in your house or apt or smaller venues then this is overkill. )This is, as it's sold, a touring hybrid drum kit. This vid was a little disappointing because you're reviewing a professional set-up for a new entry-level beginner and, again, that's not this kit. Your show is definitely geared to the home drummer which is great and your shows are generally very good. I haven't played the DDrum Hybrid but I know for a fact that the trigger foams and connections are not the same as the low-end DDrum triggers you mentioned they are a copy of. It's an inside down Pro Trigger set-up. Thas what is connected to the shell. They are the ProTrigger sensors and foams. You should correct this video, It's completely misleading. Again, this vid is geared to the home, non-professional drummer, but this kit is not for the entry-level player. This kit should be using a Roland TD-50 or 30 or the new Pearl. Also now, I use the Roland top line for home, but for the road, the DDrum Pro Triggers are simply amazing. I fully understand this vid is for the beginner and not professional but again your review is for the wrong reason. This is not meant for entry-level. The price is astounding compared to the EDrums from Drum-Tec or Roland which are not hybrid kits. Thanks for your time. This link is the best drum kit I've ever seen. I have literally watched hours of your vids! I just bought an acoustic drum set . I am not a drummer iI want them for my studio so others can play. I just bought a house but neighbors are pretty close and I was going to make the garage my new studio. Boy are the drums VERY loud. I may have to invest in an electric set but do not want to spend $2500 for a set to sit until someone rents my space and wants to record drums. I have no clue what to do now other than building a room within a room. Can you help or suggest please?

I have a question for you. I am used to nylon tipped sticks, instead of wood. I know you said the felt bass drum beaters will tear up the mesh heads. How about nylon tipped sticks? Thank you.
Nylon are better for mesh. Wood tips can snag on mesh if they splinter at all. Wood tips also left marks on my Roland cymbals that nylon doesnt. I stopped using wood tips.
Instead of going for a $350 roland cy13 or basically any roland cymbal, you could go for Pintech cymbals, which at about the same price-point, you get MUCH larger cymbals and almost a similar triggering. This would also save cost a LOT.

I know of them, I've even talked to one of the owners on the phone a few years ago. But Pintech never sends review units, and Pintech is nowhere to be seen in music stores or industry events like NAMM. That's why I've only ever used like, one of their cymbals in a video. I just never get to play them.
My only question is do they connect to any brain? Or are the ddrum triggers only compatible with xyz?

Hey as long as you have the right kind of cables it isn't an issue. It just is for me, I had to spend an extra $50 to get xlr to 1/4 inch cables

The Roland Acoustic Design 306 is around the same price as this setup and has the same module, better cymbals, slightly smaller drums, and is PRE-PACKAGED. If someone was going to spend $2500 on an acoustic feel electronic kit, this is the way to go, not the DDrum set.
my drummer exchanged 2 kits because the triggers half the time didn’t work did anyone here have that issue
After beaking couple of DDrum Redshots or Acoustic Pro triggers (which they use in these kits) on stage, I would never ever buy anything from ddrum again.
I never understood why ddrum uses XLRs on their triggers. Even the high end triggers they sell individually have XLRs. It really makes no sense at all.

you're better off buying used no-name drum shells and spending more on better triggers and other components. as long as the shells are in decent shape, they almost don't matter

I'm just trying to figure out which electronic drum set has the best kick drum response that can handle the weight of a 240 pound Mans kicks on a double kick peddle which is going to be hard on one kick drum pad I wish I could get the two kick pads or electronic kick drums like the strike pro how long do you think it will take for the alesus strike pro SE to drop the price on that line or Roland's TD27 3 months six months I just don't.
