Hey man, so I just bought my ROLAND TD 17 kvx! Been playing acoustic since I started playing in 2007, so I knew nothing about E kits. Your thorough reviews for this kit had convinced me that this is the best kit for me in terms of price, and features. And it definitely is! I couldn’t be happier
sorry to be offtopic but does anybody know of a method to log back into an instagram account? I somehow lost my password. I love any assistance you can offer me
I spent $1500 on a TD27kv2 with all 3 digital pads everything pristine, store display that was barely touched, I had to buy it, prior to that I missed out on a vad507 with double bass, two floor toms, 4 cymbals, and two Roland single pedals and also a Roland Hi-hat pedal, all for $4500, I kick myself for not buying them then , so when I saw the td27, I had to get it. Great drums and I am very happy with my purchase. My current kit has 5 toms, 8 cymbals (all in a Gibraltar rack). Next purchase the foot blaster triggers, and the Pearl demon drive x double pedal.. so still close to $5000, but better than what most companies offer at that price point. I started with a diy kit, then upgraded as I went and I will keep doing that until I have the perfect set for me. (The perks of not having kids).
Hey Justin - great video. That's really helpful. My biggest problem has been changing my mind and upgrading. Hard to get the right thing the first time, and then they keep coming out with better stuff! Now I have TD17 module with an acoustic set and Roland triggers. The triggers really work well when you learn how to get the settings right. Hope its the last! lol
I live in Canada, we have a chain of stores named Long&McQuade. I bought 2 used kits one had been a 6month rental and hardly used (TD-11K) the other was a trade-in in great condition (TD-11KV) both were about $600CA each ! I modified the frames by using the left side and right side and placed 1/2 of one curved section between the centre uprights, then placed the controllers on the last curved section , placed upright in the center (to enable all the cables to reach) the last half of tube is a stick holder ! so 2 kits for the price of one ... thinking of adding a third lol
This is so helpful! I'm going to buy my first set within the next 2 months and was preparing to haggle with the folks at guitar center (which is extra intimidating because i'm a girl) but some of this information will give me even more leverage if I want to go the GC route!

I remember why or how but I also ordered the roland noise eater hi hat stand from the guitar center site for $169 (originally $219). In addition I got a noise eater board/pad from greentoe for $110 (originally $145) and I bought it all on a tax free weekend in Massachusetts so that saved me at least $100 in taxes! DIY remains cheaper than other stuff, if you have a plan. Plus it can sound and feel better, if one is open to do some research. But for a good result one still needs to pay some money. I've had good luck buying used Roland. As long as its not obviously abused. Ive even bought abused Roland stuff that just needed new cones and heads but still triggered fine.
there's starter kits for 300 bucks that are all mesh and better than some $1000 kits from a few years ago. if you look at other companies and not only Roland, Yamaha and Alesis that is. spending 600 on them is like burning money, don't even bother below 800. think of the Millenium 150x to save money, upgrade later.

Just came across your channel recently and it's extremely helpful, so thanks! So, this actually inspired me to post here as a reply asking for advice. I'm looking at getting a digital drumset for my small apartment. Two reasons, in particular. 1) to play on streaming platforms so I can entertain and practice and 2) I have an acoustic apartment in storage right now that I simply cannot touch. Naturally, I can't play that in this small apartment. I'm somewhat NEW to digital, but I did have an el-cheapo Alesis(?) digital drumset some 12ish years ago which is now broken due to bad heads and bad tuning of heads (I broke the rims). So, I want to really upgrade. I'm thinking the Roland TD-17KVX, since I'm a prog drummer and I get (in theory) three extra toms in the rims. Here's my thing. I have roughly 5-5.5 feet of length to put one up in my apartment, so I don't know if it'll work. On top of that, since this is about saving money, which website would be the best to use? I was going to use Musiciansfriend to buy/order it, but this video has me intrigued on a good, proper and trustworthy website. (I watched the video a day before posting this, so I know he names some places. I'm just curious on doing any type of online searching outside of CL ad FB would be worthy)
I subbed and liked...just for the tips on getting a bundle price. Kraft Music should give you a % of the sale I'll give them instead of Amazon!!! Thanks for the awesome content.
I admit to having a 'phobia' about buying used equipment (I know I should know better, but...). I will admit that the 'automatic' cross-sticking 'feature' on the new roland snare with the TD-50 module is a real 'attraction' for me. I am thinking of buying the 'bundle' -- module, 18" cymbal, and snare. I already have a throne, heavy snare stand, and bass pedal/KD8. I would like to add a hi-hat stand and the 13"/14" hi-hats. With that I would be 'happy' (at least for a bit). I will admit that 7500/8000 just seems too high. Though, the 'bundle' is about 3400 (not really 'chump change'[ha!])..... To me, the snare, ride cymbal, and hi-hat are the 'critical pieces. (Now just to 'convince' myself to spend the money!) As you allude, all of the above and everything else is personal. Another great video. And, yes, there are almost always alternatives.... I like how you lay them out.
Hey, I was just wondering if you can give me some advice, or, much rather help me with something. I have a Yamaha DD-75 drum kit and I've been wanting to make drum covers. I understand how to record using the iRig but do you happen to know how to record directly into Ableton so I can get both backing tracks AND drum audio together? I've tried connecting my Focusrite Scarlett audio-interface but my drums just don't seem to be going through... 🤔
I bought a Alesis Command Mesh Kit new $1000 about a month later started to look for more addons and the cost is unbelievable insane. so I thought I would look for a used one found the same set for $800 the guy used it for a month and didn't like it. So now I have a 16 piece kit for under $2000 I grab a MidiPlus 2x2 and it works great with all drum software and a drum game I play online. I love my kit . My profile pic is my kit
Justin, your channel rocks. I’ve learned so much from your video series. Need some guidance on an upgrade. I have a custom eKit that I built from an old Sound Percussion set. The drum pads are single zone with drum-tec heads. I have a Kat module but want to upgrade to a Roland TD15. My question is..do I need the Roland pads for this module, or will I be able to use the full feature/functionality of the module with my custom pads? Thanks
Hi Justin, thanks for all the great info, it has been really helpful. I would appreciate hearing if you would reccomend getting a Alesis Nitro Mesh kit new, or an old used (but in good condition) Roland TD-4 for a 9 year old boy that has been very intuitive in his first summer of drum lessons.
Thanks Justin. I never hear you mention Iris triggers from Italy. They sent me photos of everything that I requested. I think the quality looks first class and the design too and the price seems fair to me. But yes, the shipping and vat etc will add quite a bit. I’d love to hear your opinion sometime on these triggers or the company. Thanks Justin, Greg
Hi Justin, could you make a video talking about recommended drum modules for A2E conversion? I'm actually looking at the dtx502 module. But I am afraid of it not working very well because of trigger settings and etc. Thank you!
Hi Justin! Do you have any recommendations how to fix snare pad when it starts not respond to sub divisions any more? My drum set is Behringer HDS 110 USB.
I just got a Roland TD-9SX used but it doesn't have a hi-hat controller pedal. I was wondering if it needed to be Roland brand or if an off brand one would work.
Hihat compatibility is always an issue as different brands use different mechanisms. It would be ideal buying the Roland stuff, or you can try and buy other brands. FD 8 hihat controller is a good choice available on a budget price if you are considering Roland.
Would you buy a alesis strike pro at the moment? Current price new is about 2300€. Im not sure if the roland td 17 kvx isnt better. Most important for me is practicing and the alesis is way bigger than the 17. But its also 2 years old and some new stuff would be better. Maybe you can help me with my decision. thx
I have a TD-17kvx and I love it. 100% would recommend. The Strike Pro is fine, but I would definitely recommend playing it before you buy it (if you haven't already). I personally just don't like the feeling of the pads. The TD-17 is obviously smaller than the Strike Pro, but the pads feel rock solid (and latency is never an issue with Roland modules, which is a plus). Hope this helps.
Hey Justin. Long time lurker, love your channel. Looking into getting an E-Kit. Given myself a $5000aus budget to be fully set up. Was either considering the Roland TD-17KVX and deck it out with replacements like you did in your video, or buy the Alesis Strike pro?? Plz help
Hey great video. I have a question that I can't find an answer for anywhere. I have an alesis nitro drum module that I normally use alesis strike cymbals with but I would like to buy a Roland cy13 cymbal to use as a crash cymbal. Will it work? You have talked me into using Roland cymbals since they last longer.
Thanks to your vids i'm getting closer to a purchase. Anyone have experience with the newer Command X Mesh model from Alesis? Curious if the durability on the Command X kit is not so good like was said on this channel about the Surge mesh.
I'm currently in the market for a set of electronic drums. One thing that I can't seem to get is a decent price on just the drums. Over the many, many years of drumming I have, somehow, amassed a plethora of stands, racks, and other hardware. I don't need ( or want) another rack or stands for the drums. Do you know of any deal I could get on just the "shells"?
I have a question...I have the roland td12 with an additional floor Tom and crash cymbal added on. Would it be worth it to replace the module with the pearl mimic pro? Or are the pads too outdated?
Hi Justin, I currently use the roland TD9 i don't use any of the internal sound i just use it to trigger superior drummer 3, im thinking about getting a new kit, what is the best roland kit to trigger superior drummer, if you already covered this please direct me to the video, thanks, George
What set would you recommend for under 1k? Use to have a drum set many years ago, not not exactly a beginner, but not much more than thet if you get what I'm saying. Thanks
Hey Justin! I have a big question and I'd really appreciate your help on this matter. I'm from Colombia and I'm about to buy my first edrum set, I have an intermediate level so I want a kit to practice. I have two options: buying a td-1dmk or a used td11k, the price difference is 400.000 Colombian pesos ($200). Which one should I get?
please help someone: i am a guitar player, not a drummer. I'm looking to get a kit for my home studio. until today, i had thought/was sure i was going td07dmk. thing is, a local store just posted a used td25k (not kv) for the same price as a new td07dmk. would i be nuts for not taking this deal or would i somehow be happier with the td07dmk? Thanks to anyone that can help
I really need some advice Justin and friends. I bought a TD-17 KVX and a pair of Sennheiser headphones like Justin recommended. My family want to hear me play too though. Should I hook up multiple headphones (how can I do this)? Or should I get a drum amp. It’s a house I’m playing in. What amp should I get? I’m afraid to get a Roland PM-100 because I heard Simmons sounds better. I want it to sound great and have some punch to the volume. Please help!
I recently owned a Roland Pm200 that I got when I bought a used Alesis kit. I ended up selling it to guitar center because none of the kits sounded good on it, even on the new td17kvx i just bought. I was buying drum heads a short time after at guitar center and tested a edrum kit hooked up to a simmons monitor (not sure which model) but it definately sounded better to me. Hope this helps.
+1 to "unlisted prices". I visited a store and asked how much they sell the kd-140 for and it was 540€ instead of the listed 700€. Even the employee was surprised when he looked it up. Speaking of kd-140, any opinion on that vs the kd-120, and maybe even the kd-85 too? I'm wondering if there's a difference in "feel" and rebound.
Roland td15 second hand for a bit over 1k euros, with pd125, 120, 105 and 100, and kd80. Vh11 cy8x2 and cy13. Im upgrading from dtx500 and the small pads kill me. Any thoughts about if buying it is worth it??
@@MommyKhaos GM is hands down the worst, most unreliable, manufacture these days, the quality of their products is very poor. This isn't even debatable lol
Hey Justin, nice video as usual. 👍 And speaking of triggers, can you tell me something about Trick Drums Laser Triggers? www.thomann.de/intl/trick_drums_sb1_2_double_laser_trigger.htm www.thomann.de/intl/trick_drums_sb1dom1_single_laser_trigger.htm www.thomann.de/intl/trick_drums_sb1_1_single_laser_trigger.htm P.S. None of these brands that you mentioned can't be found in Europe (at least not on Thomman's website), there are Axis Percussion, Triggera, ddt, TDrum, On Trigger, and I wonder what would be the best choice in your opinion?
How is it possible they sell it for less than MSRP? Usually its the other way around with other products, eg GPU advertised as 799$ but you cant find any for lower than ~900-1000$.
bargaining with the store is kind of a dick move. i worked in a store and profits are about 3-5% on most drum equipment. Audio equipment is even worse. i don't know why people think music stores don't need to make money because they're special for some reason or whatever..it's a company and a lot of those stores are dying because of the big ones
@@rchayes1996 well thats probably worse than just telling them cause it feels like a dickmove if you're the only store doing it. And there are some cashcows that allow a 5% discount for example but people just ask for 20% off like it was no biggie and then get upset if they dont get it because they felt like they could have asked for 40%

I have a question...I have the roland td12 with an additional floor Tom and crash cymbal added on. Would it be worth it to replace the module with the pearl mimic pro? Or are the pads too outdated?
I have same question for Justin w a TD 10
Hi Justin, I currently use the roland TD9 i don't use any of the internal sound i just use it to trigger superior drummer 3, im thinking about getting a new kit, what is the best roland kit to trigger superior drummer, if you already covered this please direct me to the video, thanks, George
George Cassidy id say get a TD-30 or if you have a bit more money get a TD-50
+1 on the 30 day returns. 99 times out of 100, the restock unit is in the condition that a new unit would be 10 minutes after you open it.
What set would you recommend for under 1k? Use to have a drum set many years ago, not not exactly a beginner, but not much more than thet if you get what I'm saying. Thanks
I’m gonna get a TD-30kv because I just want something really nice to practice and gig
just bought the td27kv
When you think you will get to do full review of the ATV EXS-5? I need to know if it’s worth the $2300 price tag
Just tell me, what is the best electronic drum set for around $1,000 -- give or take?
please help someone: i am a guitar player, not a drummer.
ROLAND TD-17KL or ALESIS COMMAND MESHKIT?
roland
Roland td15 second hand for a bit over 1k euros, with pd125, 120, 105 and 100, and kd80. Vh11 cy8x2 and cy13. Im upgrading from dtx500 and the small pads kill me. Any thoughts about if buying it is worth it??
do the diy kits keep their value like roland kits do?
100k miles on a car is still plenty of lifespan! (unless it's a british car)
@@camsty1225 I'm pretty sure he said 300,000 miles when he was talking about the floor models
@Le Spam Huh? I mean, dodges, yeah. But fords and GM vehicles are typically good for 200k to 300k
@@MommyKhaos GM is hands down the worst, most unreliable, manufacture these days, the quality of their products is very poor. This isn't even debatable lol
6Hundred6ixty6ix i agree with you that they are trash however most GM Vehicles will rust and leak their way into the 200k range before falling in half
if the electronics are Lucas run like hell ... but some Webber side draft carbs with trumpet intakes would make great bells !!!
Hey Justin, nice video as usual. 👍 And speaking of triggers, can you tell me something about Trick Drums Laser Triggers? www.thomann.de/intl/trick_drums_sb1_2_double_laser_trigger.htm
www.thomann.de/intl/trick_drums_sb1dom1_single_laser_trigger.htm
www.thomann.de/intl/trick_drums_sb1_1_single_laser_trigger.htm
What should I get used Yamaha DTX522K or Used RolandTD11k ?
Do you think it's safe to buy a used electronic drum for roughly 300? Is that too low?
Hey Justin, I was wondering if the rubber pads off the KAT Percussion KT4 kit are compatible with the Alesis Command/Forge/Crimson modules?
How do I become a sponsor ?
There are no REVIEWS on Millenium MPS-850, Be the Saver and Do it for us on budget
They aren't sold in America though 😑
65 Drums they can be shipped tho, right? ;)
bargaining with the store is kind of a dick move. i worked in a store and profits are about 3-5% on most drum equipment. Audio equipment is even worse.
i don't know why people think music stores don't need to make money because they're special for some reason or whatever..it's a company and a lot of those stores are dying because of the big ones
The store could easily post a sign that says prices are non negotiable. If they don't, that's on them. That's business, baby.
@@rchayes1996 well thats probably worse than just telling them cause it feels like a dickmove if you're the only store doing it. And there are some cashcows that allow a 5% discount for example but people just ask for 20% off like it was no biggie and then get upset if they dont get it because they felt like they could have asked for 40%
Unfortunately i was scammed on Facebook market place with that kit
I saw that same website and I left it alone
You called me special! :$
I got lucky, ended up paying $5,000 for a Roland TD-50KV New! With extrea toms and bt1 bar trigger
Buy used. Find coupons. Negotiate by pitting competitors against each other.
That's why you always use pay pal they have refunded me many scams from scammers
Excellent video and advice.
But f*ck Amazon. No money from me to those guys.
for that amount of money id rather get a really nice acoustic kit
Reverb prices are stupid high. Don't waste you're time. Oh yeah shippings 900 $
I will say. Don’t buy a cheap REAL drum kit. Get a good one. It will prevail in the end.
No, GOOD electronic drums are expensive.
