Great British R&B singer. Her performance of this song at The Apollo Theater in NYC is iconic. The crowd is yelling Lisa, Lisa, Lisa. You should check it out.
Go Lisa, go Lisa, go Lisa.
😂I remember that. She said in a interview a few years back That Her Performance at The Apollo & the Crowds Reaction is one of if Not The Greatest experience of her life & Music Career.
She rocked the house harder than anybody
Showtime at the Apollo was must see TV back then
Yes!!
Lisa was the it girl for a minute. Deserved more. Such a talent. Also try: Everything But The Girl - "Missing"
The Todd terry mix
I LOVE Everything But The Girl! Ad Missing is such a haunting song.
@@mariefc8504 And "Driving" off of the sublime "Language of Life" album.
This is my favorite version. ua-cam.com/video/Q4sPkS8b62Q/v-deo.html
Oh she was many minutes...saw her in 92...she sang for 2 1/2 hours....incredible
It’s funny how Lisa Stansfield was a huge star all over the world for like three years and then people just stopped buying her music. She’s released so many great records, and still can perform and sing like no one. She’s not one hit wonder. Please listen to her other singles. You’ll love her!!!! ❤️
Barry White gave Lisa a soulful creditability in her style and voice. She is so awesome!
Lisa was already an established singer BEFORE she met Barry White. When this song was published (her biggest hit), she had not yet met Barry nor done any work with him. Lisa's soulful style is her own; Barry White had nothing to do with it.
More blue-eyed soul!!! MONSTER hit on ALL stations.
Other Lisa Stansfield songs I recommend: “All woman, The real thing, You can’t deny it, Never gonna give you up, & This is the right time”. She is so soulful. Lisa is also a British actress.
@@patriciathompson4110 Under-rated as an artist most def. Don't forget: Coldcut feat. Lisa Stansfield - People Hold On, sampled though in: Lil' Love - Lil' Love, worth checking them both out. She used to present: Razzmatazz on ATV / ITV back in the very early 80's too! (ATV / ITV - TV channels based in the UK). ua-cam.com/video/4IoWjow6xDs/v-deo.html is: Coldcut feat. Lisa Stansfield - People Hold On, and: ua-cam.com/video/cNS4OYWCQW4/v-deo.html is: Lil' Love - Lil' Love, that sampled People Hold On!
"All Woman" is one of her best songs- definitely one to check out!
Joyce you stop listing all my faves
The album "affection" is perfect. Every track
Absolutely; Her song book goes right up to the late 2000s. My girl is my age and still looks sexy cool in her performances and videos. Check out the full collection. She was never a minute for me. She is everlasting. Canadian Grandma. Lori. C.
You would both LOVE the live version of this song with Lisa and Barry White! She also sang this song at the Apollo Theater that you would both LOVE! You'd love her song All Woman as well!!!❤
That Apollo performance was fire! :)
Whole crowd chanting "Go Lisa, go Lisa" IIRC!
Absolutely correct. Barry was her idol and it was her dream to perform with him. Loved it
I remember hearing this song on the radio the day it dropped and I swore she was a black woman (So much soul in her voice) UNTIL the video on Mtv hit, and I couldn't believe it lol. This was her biggest hit if i recall correctly. She almost reminded me of Jane Child who also had that soulness in her voice.
Me too...I thought she was black until I saw her on TV one day, "who is this woman, why is she here" and then she belts out this song....home girl could SANG! Years later I watched a reaction to black folk listening to the Righteous Brothers belting out "Unchained Melody" and how shook they were to find out it's a pair of white boys. I understand that reaction so well.
She was the female version of Rick Astley... 😉
@@catherinebent7307 #fact LOL
Hervoice is so rich! Another great one by her is All Woman.
There’s a great video of her singing this at the Apollo Theater as the audience cheers her on! Also there’s a great vid of her singing this with Barry White🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yes! The Apollo clip of her performing this is amazing.
And Change is another banger of hers!
Omgosh .. I may have to look that one up where she sings with Barry White .. luv him too! Tyvm.
Yes, the Apollo moment when everyone lost their mind. People said, even at the time, she got her lifetime membership to the cookout.
The Apollo performance is the absolute best!
I think her voice sounds "pearly", so lusterly
She also sings this with Barry White. Listen to that!
Unbelievable singing voice, especially when you hear her down to earth Northern English accent 😉
I sound just like Lisa Stansfield! Unfortunately it's only when I'm talking! 😆
@@ellesee7079 🤣🤣🤣
Another great song is "Breakout" by Swing Out Sister. I hope you can react to that one too.
When this song hit the charts. It was unheard of that a little white girl could rock the Apolo theatre but she had everyone going NOW
YES, I remember that episode. She shut it down! Still love her to this day!
"Her voice is like...I don't even know how to explain it"
Soul. Its got soul.
She holds back then drops into to enough tease us
This is Lisa best vocal performance
MTV had this song on rotation and is such a classic! Hope you consider Suzanne Vega or Jodi Watley for a female Friday 😎
Jodi is still touring
Jodi Watley…I forgot about her…she has a voice!
Don't forget Cathy Dennis!
Have y'all listened to Taylor Dayne yet? She definitely delivers vocally.
Yes, I second that suggestion.
I said this a while ago
You guys are missing out if you haven’t done Taylor Dayne. “Love Will Lead You Back”
@@tarcisioreynes5054 just thinking about her
@@tarcisioreynes5054 I'll be Your Shelter as well
80s British Soul right here! This whole album bumps from beginning to end. Highly recommend you guys listen to her whole debut album when you get a chance...its perfection.
English Lisa is from Manchester
Love this song. She has a beautiful voice.
Can we talk about the video? It’s nothing but close ups on her and she WORKS every second of it!
Great video with this jam❤
Such a soulful voice, her andTeena Marie,!
If you liked Lisa Stansfield then Alison Moyet is a must, give 'All Cried Out' or 'Invisible' a whirl.
Been asking for Alison for ages, no one ever listens. 😢
@@markharris1125 She's fantastic! Unfortunately I keep seeing the same songs and artists being played on all these reaction channels. Let's hope they play her some time soon, they certainly won't regret it.
Alison has one of the most powerful voices and yet no one reacts to her!
It's practically criminal that Alison Moyet/Yazoo haven't featured on Female Friday
@@DaeronK I know, once one plays her and it gets (hopefully) good numbers, the others will catch on.
I have mentioned a few other female singers from time to time - I like Paloma Faith, had a crush on Kim Wilde and still listen to her music, I even like Sophie Ellis-Bextor, especially with the less disco-ey stuff.
I wish Alison would do some concerts.
Love Lisa's voice, very soulful. Her other hits were
All Woman,
This Is The Right Time,
The Real Thing,
In All The Right Places,
all really great songs if hers, you guys should check them out, I think you'll love them too.😎❤️👌🎶
You Can't Deny It
I'll humbly add, Time To Make You Mine.
@@brenspin thx, i knew there was another two, for the life of me I couldn't remember lol. 👍
@@abmqa thx, that's a good one to, forgot that one.👍
Her 2001 Album "Face Up" was so incredible & very few people know about it! I'm a SUPER FAN of Lisa's! She did a self supported tour here in the States in 2018 & she was FANTASTIC!! LOVE! LOVE! LOVE that WOMAN!!🥰🥰
All that being said please check out "8-3-1!" Also 2004's "If I hadn't got you" ~ 1989's "Mighty Love" ~ from the "Bodyguard" soundtrack ~ "Some day I'm coming back".
She always had such a unique and beautiful voice!! She did an awesome duet with Barry White that's so fun. *BASIA* "Time and Tide" is my suggestion for female Friday!! She has a similar sound. Keep smiling!! ☺️😊😁
Yes! Basia!!
Props to Basia - Time and Tide..Yessssss!
1000% Basia - Time and Tide.
Huge Basia fan here!!❤
Yes to Basia!!
That beat was a signature late 80's early 90's beat. It gives me Soul to Soul - Keep on Moving,, Tom's Diner - Suzanne Vega vibes - which are great songs to react to!
😄 you pegged at all right too!
As one urging for Lisa, may I suggest Everything But the Girl and it's lead singer Tracey Thorn and tear 90's hit Missing, has a similar British pop vibe with jazz - blues hues. You'll love it for female Friday.
Listen to Tracey Thorn on Style Council's "The Paris Match" as well as on Massive Attack's "Protection". Tracey is just terrific.
Great suggestion!
Tracey Thorne was also great on Massive Attack's 'Protection'.
Yes to EBTG! I'd suggest some of these cuts; Get Me, Two Star. After that, try out Swing Out Sister; Circulate, Twilight World
@@no2all Me too!!!! Amazing track 🥰
Yall should watch her perform this at the Apollo!! Please search this song at the Apollo She did a fire dance and snapped. She got even higher
"This Is The Right Time" would be another good listen.
Good song. SOPHIE B. HAWKINS song DAMN, I WISH I WAS YOUR LOVER is a Damn good song from the same era!!!
yes!!
Lisa Stansfield had 3 amazing hits in 1990. This was the first one, which peaked at #3 for 3 weeks. The other two are definitely worth a reaction. They are "You Can't Deny It" and "This Is The Right Time." Then in 1991-92, she had one more minor hit.
All Woman.
And, “Change” by her is the jam too.
"Change" is the minor hit I was talking about. I've never heard of "All Woman." It wasn't a hit in the states.
@@lisatrautner9426 Yesss
@@BillGraper lies you tell, it was #1 billboard soul/hip-hop also #21 adult contemporary in the U.S. alone..just because you never heard of it in your small world.
Such a great song! Such a great voice! She's very underrated. Just disappointed you didn't do the version where she's in a duet with Barry White... that's ok... still love you guys.
Might you want to give us some Van Morrison - Moondance?
I came to say the same thing. The duet with Barry White is fire!!
I agree 👍
YES LOVE OUR LISA SHES FABULOUS ❤🌟❤
And she’s still singing….
Love this song and this woman can sing! 💜 She did a remake of this song with Barry White, should check that out too!
Yes!!! His deep voice was perfect.
Thanks for the info I will check it out. I love Barry too.
YES! I've been wanting you to do this song for months! Lisa's voice captivated me from the first moment I heard this song in 1989, and I ran out and bought not only this album but the one before it! You should do "This Is the Right Time", "Live Together" and "People Hold On" if you want to dive down this rabbit hole. Another one from the late 80s you need to do for Female Friday is "Time and Tide" by Basia (pronounced BAH-sha). It will blow you away.
Definitely Basia! Love her!!!
DOUBLE YES YES! Both Lisa and Basia blew me away on first hearing.
Basia - Time and Tide....YAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
Basia's "Cruisin' For Bruisin'" would be another excellent choice.
Yup, I knew you were my spirit animal. I don't often hear people suggest Basia. In fact, I don't know how many people actually know who she is, but I love Time and Tide. In fact, I love most of that Time and Tide album. From Now On, Promises, New Day for You, How Dare You, Miles Away. Great album!
I'm 48 this song been hitting since the 80s
Lisa Stansfield was one of a series of British soul acts described as "neo soul" - with elements of traditional soul, but a more contemporary, hip-hop influenced beat, lots of strings, etc. The group that really started it is Soul II Soul. "Back To Life" is their breakout hit. (Lisa's moment in the sun was intense but brief. But her later hit "Change" is also worth a listen.)
Amazingly talented woman
Lisa can SAAAANG!
The whole world was jammin
The range of Lisa's voice is just amazing.
Huge pop hit and hit on the black charts.
Great song! I've always loved it. Lisa has class.
Such a cool song. Even though it's from 1989, it has seventies touches like those violins and just the soulfulness of it. Songs from this period with a sort of similar seventies-ish feel include Soul II Soul's "Back to Life" and "Keep On Moving" from 1988 and the Brand New Heavies' "Never Stop" from 1991 and "Dream On, Dreamer" from 1994.
Madonnas' single ' Keep it Together' goes in that mix of songs too
@@Braedensground no it doesn't, not soulful enough no violins...but you tried it tho.
Yes! Soul to Soul and the Brand New Heavies are great suggestions.
@@jaijones2036 Yes it does.
@@sexysadie2901 wishful thinking 🤣
Boy she sings like a sister😊/ Im sure Aretha appreciated this lady!😊
The Apollo said she arrived 😊
Singing with Barry White was great also!
Another song as good as this is "Break Out" by Swing Out Sister. Also, Yes to anything by Basia. Her song "How Dare You Talk To Me Like That" Is a real jam. Time and Tide is just legendary. Also, "Calling You" by Jevetta Steele is amazing.
Great choices. I was thinking of Basia also.
👍🏿💥👍🏻💥👍🏽
I've been suggesting Lisa Stanfield, Basia, and Swing Out Sister for nearly a year. Also Corrine Bailey Rae and Duffy.
At least we finally got Lisa. 🙂👏
Came into the comments to recommend Swing Out Sister. Somehow I think they'll enjoy it.
What about Tanika Tikaram Twist in my Sobriety or Ofra Haza Im in’Alu
She did a tour in 2018 that she brought to the US for the first time in ages. I saw the LA show and she was fabulous. We did the meet and greet and she was giving everybody huge hugs for the photos. She just seems like a really fun person, and is a huge talent. Shame that she didn't have more success in the US, we missed out on a lot of good music.
Duet with Barry White takes this song to another level
Lisa with that soulfulness in her voice! Her and Barry White did this song together as well loved it.
Four in one day, thanks guys.
OMG! You just made my Saturday morning. I’m a huge Lisa Stansfield fan. I believe she is the most underrated singer of the 90s. I have an entire Lisa playlist on my phone. Check out these other songs by Lisa: Real Thing, This is the Right Time, Change, All Woman, What Did I do to You, and the remix dance version of I’m Leaving by producer remixer Hex Hector.
I'm with you. Great voice
You have to do this again and watch her live at the Apollo! She turned that building OUT! 1 of the best performances at the Apollo. PLEASE PLEASE!
I’ve loved Lisa Stansfield for years and years…..
Her song “All Woman” is a must….
A theme for women!!!!
Lisa!!! Finally!!! She has so many more good songs that you should react to. "Mighty Love" , "You Can't Deny It", "Affection", "Sincerity", "When Are You Coming Back", "Wake Up Baby", "Change", "Time To Make You Mine", "All Woman", "A Little More Love", "Real Love". You will love all of these, trust me!!
Her voice is Sultry. Also, please react to 100 Percent Pure Love by Crystal Waters.
YES!! You guys will like that!
Saw her live at a club, she is gorgeous and sounds great.
Lisa Stansfield so underrated star !
This song is probably her biggest success and the most well-known song of her but in no way it is her best song. She has lots of amazing, very sensual, and very intimate songs.
ALYCIA KEYS (FALLING) IS SUPERB she's Classically trained, 🎹 PIANO 🎹
Alicia's "If I Ain't Got You" and "No One" are my favorites!
@@surlechapeau Same!!!
I loved her song so much, her hair super short with little spit curls reminiscent of the 1920's flapper ( think Betty Boop) look when I first saw it I just loved it!
This is such a great song, I still love to listen to it!
Great reaction!, Lisa has an amazing voice, another amazing voice you might consider for female Friday is Jewel "Who will save your soul"
YES! YES!! YES!!! JEWEL ❣️❣️ 👍🏻😃❣️
Lisa, Alison moyet & Dusty springfield are my 3 fave British singers of all time.
Great reaction! She did a heartfelt song called "All Woman"......Very emotional song that I think you'll both like.
Definitely!❤
You have to watch her LIVE performance at the Apollo in Harlem NYC. One of the best performances and the audience was so hyped showing her love.
I remember when this song came out. She has an amazing voice. Picked a good one for women day Friday And I also agree You should check out Anne Murray
Particularly the #1 hit from 1978, "You Needed Me"!!!
Also check out Jann Arden, her vocals and songwriting talent are amazing. I'd suggest the songs "Insensitive" and "Could I Be Your Girl?".
FINALLY! She is fabulous!!! I wish she had been more successful after this album cause she has an AMAZING voice. I will say this, the album this song is off of is BRILLIANT! The entire album is fantastic! It really is one of those albums that every song is worth listening to. I promise, anyone reading this, this album is AWESOME!
You've got to do '"A Little More Love". Absolutely stunning vocals!!! And, BTW, I think you two are among the very best reactors out there! Love your reactions!!
Another one of the great "blue-eyed soul" singers of the '80's and '90's!
She sang I Want To Break Free at the Tribute Concert for Freddie Mercury. Awesome performance.
Jane Child.” I don’t want to fall in love “
yep!!!
I know a lot of people have mentioned listening to her version of this song with The Maestro, Barry White. He was like a mentor to her and you should listen to her version of his hit, Never, Never Gonna Give You Up. The Frankie Knuckles remix is fire.
I love love this song by Lisa Stansfield🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
More! More! More...Lisa Stansfield!
You will love The Jets "You Got it All", "Crush on You", Make it Real", "Rocket 2 you". They were a family group all playing instruments with the 2 lead female vocalists being 12yrs and 17 yrs old respectively. Elizabeth was 12 when the vocal track of You Got it All was done. That alone was mind blowing for that era. The only one who came close was MJ during his Jackson 5 years in the 70's. Check them out
"You Got It All" is awesome!!!
@@BillGraper Say it louder for the people in the back Bill!!!!
@@MetalMcfly I agree with Bill. Liz recording that song at 12 was nothing short of spectacular. What an amazing gift
Ahh this one is soo good. Funny thing though I thought of "all around the world same song" by Digital Underground but now I'm remember this. I love the instruments she chose for the background.
I’ve worked with her, she’s lovely 🥰
Her voice, this song...smooth as silk.
Another Friday and no Anne Murray 😟
You should do "Silver Springs" by Fleetwood Mac from their 1997 concert "The Dance". Great visuals for a great song. Stevie Nicks really delivers.
YES!! her vocals are haunting on this one, . . . the sound if my voice will haunt you, you'll never get away. . . 🙂❣️🙂
Finally!! She's got a unique sound.💋
Classic Lisa! Classic, classic, classic....
Stansfield's performances in her show "Live from Ronnie Scotts" are phenomenal! She definitely has "Scottish Soul" .
Please react to Jane Child - Don't Wanna Fall in Love -Thanks!!!
Lisa doesn't get the credit she deserves. She is the best English female singer imo.
You will love her performance at The Apollo. It’s a must see.
9th grade! Damn takin it back 30 plus years! 🖤🖤🖤🖤 Played on MTV and BET daily
A UK hit of hers was a cover of Phyllis Hyman's "You Know How To Love Me" - and while I am a Lisa fan, y'all should stick to the original in this case instead of the cover by Lisa. Phyllis had an amazing voice and career.
I was living in England at the time this song was released. It was HUGE! She has a wonderful voice and can sing many genres. You must catch her live performance of Queen's "I Want to Break Free" at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert. It was great. At the same concert she did a duet with George Michael on "These Are the Days of Our Lives." In fact you guys would love the entire concert because it's Queen performing their songs with many of the most iconic artists from around the world - truly star studded!!!- and all as a tribute for Freddy who had only just recently died!!! You will love the concert! Check it out. 😁
She's from Rochdale, Lancashire, UK, the area I grew up in around the same time she did. A dear friend of mine was in the same class as her at high school. We're very proud of her. She made it. That voice...
KD Lang doing "Hallelujah" or Toni Braxton "Unbreak my Heart" are two greats for Female Fridays or any other day for that matter!
Two great suggestions...also kd singing "Crying" or "Constant Craving" Another one I love is Anita Baker "Sweet Love" "Caught Up in the Rapture" now she was a tiny dynamo.
You so need to do Florence Welch and her band the Machine, singing 'Dog Days are Over', she has got a fantastic voice.
I love Florence. My favorite song is Cosmic Love.
In an interview she said that The Machine is the audience.
"You Can't Deny It" is a jammm‼️
Amazing woman, Amazing song!!!!!
She is an amazing talent and was a big name in British soul in the 90s.
She is another artist who had the honour or performing at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert. Lisa performed 'Break Free' and came out in Freddie classic outfit from the music video. 👍
Another great song of hers....The Real Thing!
Wife here..She does have a gorgeous voice and I really love the song...Love Your Insights!
Underated singer . YOU CANT DENY IT is even better .
Here we go! Let's get to these winners-"You Can't Deny It", "People Hold On", "This Is The Right Time", all so good! So much great British soul music-Mica Paris, Alison Moyet, Loose Ends, 5 Star, Junior, Big Sound Authority.
