Hi August, I have only started watching your video's this past week, and I have to say your attitude to life is exceptional. I love that you care and love your chosen profession so much. You are a true family man both in work and at home. I have just watched your tributes to Jaden and although I know you should celebrate someone's life, I found it so sad and it moved me to tears, Life isn't always fair, what a waste of a young man. I really feel for his family and friends, they would have been proud of your very fine tribute. Well done. If I could go back in time I would have really enjoyed being a tree "surgeon", as it is I am a retired builder in the UK, Great video's. Look after yourself.

I'm an older guy with a very small neighborhood tree service... In my imagination I am a big time arborist/climber, watching videos like yours, analyzing trees as I drive, reading, etc.... ha, but very very small in reality. Now, I could get more jobs if I ground stumps. -- But if you have a stump grinder you have to be able to troubleshoot and repair them....
That stump grinder does look pretty cool though, and the sales rep/technician does a great job on representing his product.

The grinding isn't so bad, it's cleaning up the mess afterwards and hauling it away.

I feel the same about stumps! A fellow tree man in my area had a Vermeer 1152 stump grinder that was a beast!! Have him demo one of those for you and you’ll really be impressed!

I have an older Vermeer SC505 that does about that good. I wouldn't trade it for anything smaller. One of the first jobs after I bought it was for a city park. 40 Cottonwood stumps from 20" to 48" in 6 hours including drive time and lunch

Hope the 70TX is better then the 60TX, I got a few vids from 3 yrs ago I did covering a bunch of faults I fixed in an SC60TX
In particular the wiring harness had diodes and resistors in line that snapped under vibration, a poor design and not fixed by the dealer after many visits by the owner which is how it ended up with me.

      @@lumberjaketreeservicellc4002
Yes most of the vids I made are about electrical faults with the machine
Vermeer agent here in Australia belligerently refused to provide any service information and I could get no schematics for the electrical so had to reverse engineer it to solve the problems, it had proprietary "canbus" I could not get any information for either.
I discovered even the charging light was triggered by a voltage threshold in the battery when running regardless of the alternator and the actual output of the alternator reg was rigged with a diode to fake field voltage to it.
Meaning if the belt broke you would not get a charge lamp telling you it was not charging or operating the water pump or fan until the battery eventuality dropped below 12v causing the charge light to show, that could potentially result in a blown head gasket or some other engine damage due to lack of coolant circulation for that period.

I might be able to start doing stuff again next week, depending on the Dr. There's a few stump jobs that I'll likely get to tackle when I get back in the game to ease into being productive again. The Day before I went out of commission, I had 28 smaller stumps that took me a whole day to grind with my SC-252. The monster you had in your video would've been nice. It gives me something to dream about tonight.

Right after Hurricane Michael took out fourteen of the trees in my yard, I hired a contractor that had one of these machines. The only bad part is that I still have a lot of roots left and over time these have surfaced and caused me to break blades on my riding mower as the soft ground exposed these due to the weight of the mower. You just can't get everything.

I see a lot of people running their stump grinder by starting at the top, grinding down, then raising it back up to the top move forward and grinding down again. I personally get more life out of my teeth if start at the top, run it to as low as ima grind, then walk it forward. Basically no raising it back up until I’m on my next stump. But that’s just my personal experience with my smaller Vermeer

Just import a few buckets of Aussie termites! They’d a chewed them stumps out in half that time & chewed half your leg off into the bargain if they caught you standin’ there watching em! 😜👍😂😂🇦🇺
Lotta old timber barns here, it’s only the termites holding hands keeps em standing! 😜😜😂👍
Seen em hoppin’ ‘n a skippin’ on one leg across red hot glowing coals to get at some timber before it burns they are so hungry! Darn things will chew their way through 4 inches of concrete to get at wood! 😂😂😂
Needs to name the next Vermeer the “Aussie Termite” model! 😜😜🇦🇺
Jus’ remember you heard it here first! 😂😂👍

Watching the mini with the splitter bit and the stump slicer, makes me wonder if it’s worth the $ to invest in a grinder anymore? I’m guessing the answer is Nope? No need for that heavy, expensive, one trick item anymore. Two minis with grapples and the stump slicer/ splitter is cheaper, lighter, and more versatile.
Those direct drive heads on the grinders are really nice. I preferred them over belt drive on my trx7015.

A tree (~0.8m diameter) I cut on our property... My wife wanted the stump gone, completely gone :-(
I welded a blade to the point of my jackhammer and made a sort of "power axe". It worked well, but took days - I guess it is good exercise and keeps me off the streets...
Oh how I would have loved to grind that stump :-)
(And yes, at the start I did say "do you fully appreciate what it is you are asking for here?")
(And yes, I did consider burning it out - but that too was not acceptable - "gone" meant gone...)

I've used greenteeth for years on all my stump grinders and I usually get to use all 3 sides. I don't know where he got his information from. I doubt that he's ever used greenteeth. What he said sounds like something Vermeer sales reps tells their customers to discourage them from buying greenteeth (which I consider better).

A small caviat - around 2010, I perfected the art of ripping stumps with the felling of an adjacent stick. It's a lot of shock on a bull-line, but the challenge is fun as hell... timing, stretch, trigonometry, momentum, etc.,...
