12:55 - this is how ppl go dead sometimes - shoot airborn targets with fly-by-wire mode, miss them and start to reload or just put them on back, and essentially, missile "returns to sender". Liru has many spotlights on that. I think BI did fixed that somehow by speeding missile a bit up and made it less maneuverable, but it is still possible.
For the jet dlc they reworled every aa missile so they could manage to hit the new jets. Meaning any poor dude in a heli like that gets murdered almost garunteed.
@@ademrax01 facts. Hate this so much. My friend was flying a hbird and I told him when to flare, we didn't get hit by either of the two missiles that came for us. I fly? suddenly every single missile hits me.
real life flying is so different than ace combat type games.. look at that new top gun movie.. every one of his locks was considered a hit.. flying is slow and changes in direction are slow.. a missile can survive super human g forces and some of them arent confused by a flare.. only some missiles target the heat signature of your jet engine which are the ones that get confused by flares.. others are remote guided by a person locking target on you manually. theres a third type and i forget how it works but it also doesnt get confused by flares..
The reason you fire top down with Javelin style missile systems is to avoid firing at heavily armored areas on Armored Vehicles. AFV's tend to have very thin armor on the top of the hull, and to a lesser extent, the Turret.
Thought it might be nice to know for ACE users. With the MPRL compact and ACE you can lock onto anything with a heat source, building, troop, static emplacement, anything. I never tested it on air vehicles though so i'm not sure about those, but if the ACE guys are going for realism i'm guessing you can lock onto them too. Note: the AT and AP missiles are not very maneuverable so hitting a fast moving target like a jet or helo, is rather difficult. Another note: AT has a very small splash radius, so it will probably kill the soldier you just locked onto, but probably not much else. Pick the right missile/rocket for the right situation.
Interesting fact about the Titan Compact: You can change the firemode by pressing F. This will change the mode to top fire, which means the missile flies up before approaching the target. This will result in a top hit on the target.
Luetin09 If it locks on, its a missile. If it has a guidance kit, its a missile. If you can fire it without having to lock on, and its unguided (I.e. RPG-7) it's a rocket.
you can use the PCML for firing at infantry or buildings too, if someone in your squad has a laser Designator you are able to lock on to that. works with the other "locking" launchers too. alternatively a target could also be designated by a drone, you then lock onto its designation point, point the launcher about 60-70 degrees up, and fire. the missile will automatically do a top down strike, which i have successfully used to target thing up to 6-7km away. you should definitely try this in a video, as not many people know about it. but it is very useful. if you use the PCML to top down attack in combination with a drone (which with the laws of war dlc can now be carried in a back pack) you can hit targets behind buildings, or hills. and it looks super cool too.
Notice that the Kamysh did not pop smoke when the Titan MPRL Compact was wired-fired(21:33), but it did pop smoke when it was fired at under a lock-on (21:57).
ChrisXBlue because the AI when locked on knows the missile is incoming, when fly by wire they don't pop smoke cause they don't know they're being targeted.
Left ctrl + mouse wheel up/down is where its at for zeroing. Don't have to move away from the mouse or wasd to use it. Also, it should be set at that default as an alternate option for anyone who hasn't already changed it in their control setup.
Could also note that you engaged all those vehicles from the front, or side at an acute angle. You'd do much more damage shooting the rear of the vehicles.
What angle you hit at along with what you hit effect the damage model for vehicles. Hitting the side of a tank below a turret will most likely get you an ammo hit where as a front on shot to the center might kill the driver only. Decrewing a vehicle is a real thing with armor, as you can see it all the time with light technicals to helicopters and the such. Hitting the rear can cause engine fire which leads to explosion, that is, if the engine is in the rear and its not empty space for infantry aka APC.
I know this video is 3 years old, but I gotta ask if you don't know already. The titan MPRL (AT) you can actually lock to a target, turn around facing away from the target, aim up about 45 degrees and fire. It will then loop up and over you, and hit the target from above. Very useful for shooting over buildings etc. You can even keep the lock if you run around a building.
Worth mentioning, the titan compact in Ace Top attack does buckets more damage Vs tanks. I imagine the armour is thinner up top. Will one shot everything but main battle tanks... and sometimes even those
I once took down a plane with the new Vorona rocket launcher, I sometimes like to use the Compact Titan and Vorona for heloes, because you can move the rockets mid flight. If a plane is coming straight towards you, a Vorona can do the job too.
Fly by wire can be advantageous over locking on as the target wouldn't know the missile is coming. When u get locked and your in an armoured vehicle, depending on the vehicle u get a warning that you've been locked giving u a chance to pop smoke which can sometimes divert the rocket. If u don't lock and fly by wire (which if u can aim is really easy to destroy a static target) then the enemy doesn't get the warning and will be blown up without a clue. I prefer fly by wire for pvp because of this. Also with fly by wire if u fired far right of the target and u are somewhat close meaning u can't bring the rocket round to hit the target in time if u are aiming direct at it then u can just aim far left of the target so the rocket turns tighter.
If you have to use an RPG-7 against a hard target like an APC or MBT, remember this lesson. Wait for the guaranteed hit unless being fired at. If possible, shoot it in the butt. Armor is always weakest in the rear of the vehicle.
Quite a nice guide, couple things to note though: it depends on WHERE and from what angle you hit the vehicles. Faction also plays a role (example: Gorgon and mora are the only IFVs that can take an RPG 42 from almost ANY angle) and some vehicles have modular armour (kuma). I have done extensive testing and file digging. if you want more info just ask ;)
the Titan Compact in ACE can lock on Helos as well - and they don't detect the incoming missile so they don't flare - it is almost a guaranteed kill - but it does take a bit of time to lock and you need a bit of skill to track them and keep them in the reticule while the system locks on them, when you are zoomed in thermal mode and they are travelling fast about the sky.
Around 18:00 , you said to not attack horizontally. You should've explained ambush tactics (like an IED hitting the lead vehicle) and closer range urban engagements vs. open land. Oh, and you can change the attack types of the MPRL Compact, I think... indirectly, at least. You see the notch at the bottom? You can top attack enemy vehicles if you line the up in that after locking. Useful for completely destroying tanks.
New players better be careful of MPRL Compact's boomerang effect. There are videos which AT riflemen accidentally kill themselves while reloading a new one! LT was lucky at 12:47! Hahaha! I got killed by my own missile twice before!
I know I'm about a year late, but I think it is important to emphasize the importance of where and at what angle you hit a target. For example, an MBT has ERA in the front section which negates the first hit of just about any missile, and beneath it the armor is a lot thicker and at a steeper angle than for example if you hit it in the back. Side shots are also kind of hit and miss as a track shot will often disable the track, while not hurting the engine or battle compartment, leaving the tank stationary but operational as opposed to a hit above tracks. Might be this got modeled more precisely after the tanks dlc.
Another method of rangefinding is using the 3dmarker on the map with shift + leftklick, if it is enabled on the server. Guesstimate the target, check 3d marker in the world. Adjust on map until u have it on the target or close enough to get a range you can work with
first of all, you can guesstimate it right from map - smallest quadrants has 100 m side. second, not all servers have it enabled, and some may need to pull the map quickly to see it for a short time (like in KoTH), and you may not have time for it. so it is better to do some distance estimation training rly, that way in combat you have better chances not to become dead before you shoot it.
My first time using missiles was in a public Zeus lobby. Let's just say I didn't know you needed to lock the target and the missile went vertical. I never heard the end of it that night.
Interesting fact about the RPG-42: You can easily estimate the range with the optics. I.e. a tank at 100 meters fits perfectly between the horizontal lines at the 1 mark
you don't actually have to zoom in when you want to lockon with ace, just switch to thermal also, with ace the PCML becomes a one-fire-weapon and all of the rockets do a lot more damage to the vehicles
on locking missile systems you shouldn't aim right on target nor ahead of it, but what you should do is to aim behind on it's path so pathway of missile aligns with the targets and it won't miss as mush as other methods
If you shoot an RPG 42 alamut right on top of a t-100 varsuk, on the canopy of the tank, it will kill it but it takes some time for it to explode. Try this test at your own time.
Hey it's easy man. As long as you know how to fly well, you should be good. Make sure your LZ is safe, come in at a safe angle or behind foliage / cover, don't land vertically (AKA don't stop in the air and start descending), and when there's no threat of AA, don't fly near the ground. It's a small bit of info, but it's a part of the essentials.
Attempting the Resurgent West mission, shot one of the enemy veihicles with a missile and it blew up, but the enemy veihicle was not even damaged at all.
Generally the point of MANPADs like the Titan there isn't so much to actually shoot down enemy aircraft as it is to force them to break off their attack run...
You do not want to know how long I thought the PCML and it's irl counterpart, the NLAW, was a dumbfire missile b/c I thought it was a modernized M72 LAW. PS: The PCML does have a top attack mode, found that out when I pressed F while staring down the scope one time
At 21:10 he tries to go prone and fire it. This does not work as you cannot fire any rocket laucher in arma while prone. Still a good video for the nubs.
Dude the only reason the T-100 survived 9 rockets was because your shooting at the corner of the frontal plate, which if you know anything about the physics of armor that is probably 3 times harder to Pin and cause any module damage. Yes basic gunnery skills are important, but also the implementation is important. We as players don't always get to choose the weapon we get/scrounge from the dead. So wasting limited rockets at the front armor counting off how much damage they do is pretty lame man. Show them how to use it, where to shoot it, the perks of LAT, MAT and other AT systems. Their down falls, and the use of LAT against superior armor. Like shooting for the treads to disable the tanks movement to flank and engage it's weak spots. Disabling the gun to reduce incoming fire. There was tons of things you could have covered besides how many RPG-7 rockets it takes to kill a tank from the front. "You might as well not bring an RPG-7" is the wrong damn answer at 25:00 mark. Hell you can blow up a Slammer UP with one rocket to the crew hatch in the rear. Damn to all those out there that want useful information about the game for Vanilla and modded Arma just go find Dyslexi's TTP-3 it's got pictures and info for basic don't do stupid shit. Like shooting at the damn corner of the tank! From a person with far more experience and expertise in the Arma series then Lutin.
As scathing as this comment was I do agree. Although to be fair, that was nothing more than a damage test, just to show a rough benchmark for how many rockets/missiles it will take to completely destroy various vehicles. It would be inaccurate if he fired at the weak points, because that would increase his margin for error substantially. (I can one shot an Ifrit from behind with a PzF 3. I can also one shot a Varsuk from behind with a PzF 3. I guess that means they both have the same armor.) But yes, the topics you mentioned are important ones and will hopefully be covered in the next video, although to be fair, trying to engage targets from different angles might be more of a "How to Kill Tanks" topic and less of a "How to Use AT Weapons". In other words, that's for a different video. This one was already half an hour long. Maybe try not to be so offensive when you're trying to give constructive criticism. Everybody makes mistakes.
Verlich you are right but remember this is a noob video. introductions on use and variations of weapons. not tactics. if he made an intermediate video then Edgar you said, thats what i would expect
Is there a way to switch the titan to top fire (as opposed to DIR as indicated on the right) in vanilla? I always see it there and then get frustrated that I can't switch it.
Well, with Arma's new vehicle damage models doesn't it also depend WHERE you hit these vehicles? If you're shooting in an armored position, versus the fuel tank or ammo store.
Does anyone else find that when pressing the page up or down keys for zeroing, it just makes your guy turn his head? Or does this happen when the sights used on whatever weapon can't be zeroed or adjusted?
Nice video however you probably should have waited until Tuesday next week as there are some changes coming to the PCML and Titan MPRL in regards to how they lock and they now have maximum engagement ranges. :) These changes can bee seen in Dev Branch.
Would be awesome you reupload this video with the new missile flight paths. I think now the NLAW can damage some MRAPs/APC with 1 hit in the over top mode. Also Titan AT Top mode is almost 1 hit 1 kill everytime.
Luetin09 I would like to see a tutorial on how to make a forces. Everything to their clothing, equipping, even to make them opfor/blufor. Reason, In general I wanted to make a Eastern Europe backed group of badguys (yes, like in the 80's cartoon), but also make another mod that no one had done up yet. Possibly if you have time for a project, I'd like to discuss this with you through email or something. I also would like to make some more checkpoints, or smaller sections of a base that could be used just as a check point. Options for folks.
I was just going to ask the very same thing. does hit location matter. I am not so sure it does. can't wait for the video. thanks for this video and all the others.
Before i knew the mprl followed where you aimed I made a big mastake. When I shot the missle i thought that was it but then i aimed at the ground infront of me as i was reloading, and basicully it came back and killed me and 3 other ppl

You do not want to know how long I thought the PCML and it's irl counterpart, the NLAW, was a dumbfire missile b/c I thought it was a modernized M72 LAW.
PS: The PCML does have a top attack mode, found that out when I pressed F while staring down the scope one time
very accurate and usefull tutorial. thanks
At 21:10 he tries to go prone and fire it. This does not work as you cannot fire any rocket laucher in arma while prone.
Still a good video for the nubs.
BrandenRage he said that.
He said"what you can't do if you wanna be stable enough"
He said almost immediately afterwards that that does not work.
Anyway, it would be a nice feature for the devs to add.
Top down is mostly used coz tanks and apc have have lighter armor on top of them and more electronic stuff higher rate do destroy or disable tank...
The Star citizen music made the video 11/10
I guess that means they both have the same armor.)
But yes, the topics you mentioned are important ones and will hopefully be covered in the next video, although to be fair, trying to engage targets from different angles might be more of a "How to Kill Tanks" topic and less of a "How to Use AT Weapons".
What sound mod are you using?
I noticed your RPG7 doesnt sound like shit like the vanilla sounds
Super helpful LT thanks
Is there a way to switch the titan to top fire (as opposed to DIR as indicated on the right) in vanilla? I always see it there and then get frustrated that I can't switch it.
Isn't there weak spot part of vehicles? I thought there were, like back and top
Thanks for the guide.
So as a pilot the best way to deal with missiles is to try to get side on to the missile then pop flares
Tbf, this has come in handy as I've got a shocking aim with RPG's or any of the like haha
Do a "Don't be a noob tube noob" video. Show us everything their is to know about using a rifle with a grenade launcher attached!
Nice video however you probably should have waited until Tuesday next week as there are some changes coming to the PCML and Titan MPRL in regards to how they lock and they now have maximum engagement ranges.
:)
These changes can bee seen in Dev Branch.
Thats called a Patch update video.
I look forward to it!
As of now, the PCML and Titan have max. locking ranges of about 1500m and 3500m respectively.
Come Tuesday it will be 600 and 1500 respectively.
Would be awesome you reupload this video with the new missile flight paths. I think now the NLAW can damage some MRAPs/APC with 1 hit in the over top mode.
Also Titan AT Top mode is almost 1 hit 1 kill everytime.
It says the PCML can shoot upwards instead of straight on, Any idea how to do that?
Can ERA on tanks affect RPG 7 rounds?
Where is the music from? Star Citizen?
Yes.
Star Citizen background music lol
Luetin09 I would like to see a tutorial on how to make a forces. Everything to their clothing, equipping, even to make them opfor/blufor. Reason, In general I wanted to make a Eastern Europe backed group of badguys (yes, like in the 80's cartoon), but also make another mod that no one had done up yet. Possibly if you have time for a project, I'd like to discuss this with you through email or something. I also would like to make some more checkpoints, or smaller sections of a base that could be used just as a check point. Options for folks.
what song do you use in the intro
Darts or snooker,... "wait guys...this first shot is my range finding shot, it doesn't count" haha ,if only
Hi I’m not using ace and cannot get my missiles to lock pressing T ?? Please can you help me
Remember that Jets DLC changes some of this stuff
omg i never used the rpg page up down i didn't know it had it been playing for a long time why i watch different people away learn some thing :)
So thats why I sucked as a AT specialist on an ACE server :P
is the reactive armour on the t-100 functional?
Non-guided missiles are called rockets, so therefore they are usually called dumbfire rockets
is that starbound sountrack in the background???
Thank you, spotting enemy soldiers behind cover please
Wouldn't you try to hit armored targets on the rear where their armor is weakest?
Check out my video on that tomorrow.
Awesome, will do LT
I was just going to ask the very same thing. does hit location matter. I am not so sure it does. can't wait for the video. thanks for this video and all the others.
is there such a thing as IEDs in Arma?
Luetin09 can you make a video for snipers please :) your explanation is perfect!
Top attacks also exploit the weakest armour on vehicles but I don't know how ARMA/ACE handles this.
Before i knew the mprl followed where you aimed I made a big mastake. When I shot the missle i thought that was it but then i aimed at the ground infront of me as i was reloading, and basicully it came back and killed me and 3 other ppl
I think my game is broken I followed everything but it wont lock but I can fire anyways with the titan. Can someone help me please, thank you.
Me too, can’t get the rocket to lock
