@Luetin09, the altitudes are threshold minimums. So, for example, if you want to fly at 1100m, set the height to 500m, then fly to 1100m while controlling the pilot slot. The UAV will then maintain 1100m.
One thing I've learned just from doing some practice flying in editor, if you have your flaps down (either half or full), you can take off into the air without even needing to raise your nose. I believe this starts to work at 70km/h. This probably helps a lot in short takeoff scenarios.
drones are SUPER easy to control when you use all your tools.on the subject of haveing to use both your GBU's even when in the Greyhawk you wanna attack the target at a 45 degree angle so the bomb computer does not have to come at the target on an angle, and instead can just drop RIGHT on top of the target, much much more accurate that way. and on something that was not covered about ground drones and the quad copter, if you right click a friendly unit on the ground you can set the ground drone and quad to follow that unit at varying distances. you can do this with the combat air drones but it would only be really effective with the helicopter drone.
Yes but when making a tutorial you want people to understand the base principles. This is a good tip, but its not a guarantee to hit every time also attacking in a dive runs the risk of coming into ground AA range. Its important people see the effect of dropping on time to target.
Luetin09 what's the music called in the intro I've been trying to look for it for a long time by the way great video you deserve all the support on your channel
After you set a Loiter waypoint you can just take manual control and fly to the desired altitude. The uav will hold that altitude after you release control.
this'll help me a lot in that one 3rd act mission where you have to take control over that one city where the additional ambush comes when you got into the position - much appreciated
i play this game on dual core CPU with Ultra low Graphics and 600x480 res :| 30 FPS 2 years later.. i play this game on i7 CPU with high settings and 720p still 30 FPS :|
Awesome tutorial, my (ai) commanding officier will be very happy with me now :) lol: I did the starters mission not knowing what to expect and managed to destroy both drones within 5 or so minutes. Then I led my team out to face the hostiles and we all ended up getting killed :) Yes, I am a natural :) Anyway, this has been much more useful to me than the in-game tutorial (and tutorial missions). Thanks again, can't wait to try this out!
Kudos on an excellent tutorial! I'm back playing Arma III with a new PC I recently purchased but it still confuses me at times. Watching your tutorial was SO HELPFUL and I never realized how many options you had just with a drone. I really appreciate you calling out the keys you were using (default versus your key bindings) which is usually lost by most others and you keep wondering what the hell "key" this person used to get to that mode/screen/whatever! I'm definitely going to check out your other tutorials so thank you so much!
1:00 i cant believe finally someone with brain.... i hate when i'm new in something, i go search about a doubt i have and the "tutorial" skip to the middle part and i get completely lost to how get into what is being show in the video, congratz bro.
Quick Tip: If you want to get the drone to stay at an altitude that cannot be set, take control of the drone's driver, fly to that altitude and then release control. You can tell it to loiter and such but don't hit altitude again or it might mess up.
Although this was made 3 years ago, I just got into Arma 3 like 6 days ago and more recently bought the Jets DLC and this was very helpful along with jets tips
For anyone who is watching this video in 2020, You can also use a combination of your sentinel or grey hawk drone paired with the newer AR-2 Darter, Using the small, inconspicuous darter to infiltrate the A.O, establish a laser mark on the target, and then have your ordinance carrying drone bomb it, this allows a more stable lock that you don’t have to worry about losing or shaking around!
you do not need to use two drones because after activating the laser you can just switch to bombs or missiles (whatever your drone is carrying) and can lock onto your own laser
It's also useful to know how to do it this way if for instance... the first drone runs out of bombs, and you have a second drone on the way, well the first drone can manage locking the target so that way by the time the second one gets there with fresh bombs, you dont have to spend the extra time finding and locking targets again. And the same applies to if your teammate is controlling the first drone you can ask ahead, hey... Laze a target for me to shoot when I get there!
The altitude gap might be because between 500m and 2000m is a sweetspot for AA units. 2000m is beyond visual contact range most of the time, so you'll only get spotted by radar anyway at that point.
thank you very much I nearly have 2000 hours playtime in arma 3 but still learned something new about the drones than you can adjust their flight level and fire mode and this stuff. so yeah thank you
Quick note here... on the server i play on, enemy AA‘s and aircraft have a triggerrange of 3000M I suppose thats why they give you such a jump from 500 to 2000... but idk man. The video helped btw. Thanks :D
More! This was super helpful. I have ARMA III, but hesitate to play it due to how complex the controls are (steep learning curve)... but watching this makes it look easy and makes me want to play!
Interesting video. I've always felt that drones have always being very underrated. Although I already know how to pilot a drone still enjoyed the video. And love flying the drones by the way so hopefully this video will bring some more attention to drones
Something that could be handy is a manually set altitude to fly, loiter at and so on. Especially on the modded games we have been playing recently where the spotting distance of certain AI has been ridiculously high.
I also had one more question. There is a UGV with a turret on it. Can 2 separate players of the same team/or Independents both Hack into a UGV, one controlling that driver seat and the other controlling the turret at the same time? (thanks, love the videos, they are the best I've found so far. appreciate your work)
What is the key for cycling between the sensor/radar distances @10:53. He cycles between 1000m, 4km and 8km. I've been looking everywhere but i can't seem to find what the key is?
I would like to see a video of how a heli should approach and land in a hot zone for insert and extraction. Plus what the squad on the ground should be doing when their heli is coming in. I would even be willing to help make said tutorial.
I'd like to see a commanding squads tutorial because it's a major part in which my skills lack in arma 3, also think it'd make another good enjoyable video to watch🤙🏽
I manually fly mine to the altitude I want. (Unusually about 1200). I never set the altitude. And then give it a loiter waypoint or whatever and it will perform that task at the altitude it was at when you released controls. Keep in mind it will adjust altitude based on terrain height. Wish it had an option to use barometric altitude rather than radar.
Problem with that is that a loitering aircraft will keep going up and up. It can he very annoying when you are doing recon and that you constantly have to tell your drone to come back down
I noticed the screens on the center left and right of the screen. Aren't those a part of the Jets dlc? And is that feature only in the dev branch or is it in the regular game and it just has no keybindings?
Hey, great tut, thank you. But... setting up a new waypoint is Control + Leftclick. Shift + Leftclick on the drone erases all waypoints. So it is in my arma 3.
If I was to drop a GBU from the loitering drone painting the target (while the drone was in that loitering pattern) would it still be reasonably accurate? Mostly concerned with static targets.
Hey Luetin, I tried what you did with just the UCAV. I could lock onto the Laser target sometimes, but it would never fully lock to the solid square and diamond. Is it possible to do it with one drone or do you need a different drone to spot for you?
@Luetin09, the altitudes are threshold minimums. So, for example, if you want to fly at 1100m, set the height to 500m, then fly to 1100m while controlling the pilot slot. The UAV will then maintain 1100m.
Polarbyte cool, I did not know that. Thank you.
Thank you bro!
Thanks
Thenk
thank you
This is very helpful, I didn't even know you could use the map to set waypoints for them thank you Luetin for this amazing tutorial
Same
How to control and get Drones in the air 0:00
How to lock and bomb targets 9:35
Luetin09 Thank you Lut
I have a question
Are you part of a Clan or do you own one?
And can i enter to the clan?
Do you know why I can't release the controls once the drone is airborne? Thanks
One thing I've learned just from doing some practice flying in editor, if you have your flaps down (either half or full), you can take off into the air without even needing to raise your nose. I believe this starts to work at 70km/h. This probably helps a lot in short takeoff scenarios.

excuse me but im gonna get all fan girl here... EEEEEEE he responded ;-;
Luetin09 what's the music called in the intro I've been trying to look for it for a long time by the way great video you deserve all the support on your channel
Sounds like it's from Bad Company 2.
One of the best Drone use tutorials!
if you paint a Target with laser and you switch back to ag missles with the same drone you can lock on to that laser and guide it with the crosshair
Perfect for smashing tanks :)
After you set a Loiter waypoint you can just take manual control and fly to the desired altitude. The uav will hold that altitude after you release control.
Thank you for this. The lack of 1km altitude in the loitering menu is absurd
this'll help me a lot in that one 3rd act mission where you have to take control over that one city where the additional ambush comes when you got into the position - much appreciated
Thanks for these tutorials, I just bought arma 3 because of them
vanilla drones sucks try to download mods
It's 2020, Luetin, and we're in the middle of the Apocalypse. Where are you?
Over three years on, still a great tutorial. Shame you stopped Zeusing. Your videos got me back into MP Arma 3.
13:03 holy shit i thought that somebody behind me was caughing xD
i play this game on dual core CPU with Ultra low Graphics and 600x480 res :| 30 FPS
2 years later..
i play this game on i7 CPU with high settings and 720p still 30 FPS :|
Mohammad Alizade lol, I can only run that at 7fps
Doubt
get a better pc lol, i play with a Ryzen 3 1200, 8gb Ram, GTX 1060 3gb and the game on a HDD, 1080p high to ultra settings 40-50 fps
RAR_ChaoticOG trash pc
Be happy I cant play arma 2 on the lowest stetings
Been watching your Content for yrs now and yesterday I just got Arma... This helped alot
Best drone tutorial I have seen yet. Thanks for taking the time to make it.
"Dont be a Drone Noob" *teaches us everything about it*
Awesome tutorial, my (ai) commanding officier will be very happy with me now :) lol: I did the starters mission not knowing what to expect and managed to destroy both drones within 5 or so minutes. Then I led my team out to face the hostiles and we all ended up getting killed :)
Yes, I am a natural :) Anyway, this has been much more useful to me than the in-game tutorial (and tutorial missions). Thanks again, can't wait to try this out!
Thank you so much for this. I never knew how they worked and this has explained it so well. Once again, thank you very much
Kudos on an excellent tutorial! I'm back playing Arma III with a new PC I recently purchased but it still confuses me at times. Loving the background star citizen theme
you do not need to use two drones because after activating the laser you can just switch to bombs or missiles (whatever your drone is carrying) and can lock onto your own laser
he already said that you could do that easily. That doesnt require a tutorial. Marking and shooting with different drones does.
Sean Boundy he should be heading to rearm in that case. Only in a very specific situations should you keep the empty drone there.
I wanted a quick and easy tutorial and this is perfect. Thank you so much.
The altitude gap might be because between 500m and 2000m is a sweetspot for AA units. 2000m is beyond visual contact range most of the time, so you'll only get spotted by radar anyway at that point.
Thank you! This is exactly the step-by-step intro I needed!
This guy is always helpful with this stuff
thank you very much I nearly have 2000 hours playtime in arma 3 but still learned something new about the drones than you can adjust their flight level and fire mode and this stuff. so yeah thank you
Actually helpful thanks, i was just trying to manually fire rockets at targets before but this will make it infinitely easier lol
My god. I learned so much in this video after 5 years of Arma 3.
I'm playing this game since alpha release and still learning new things
Great video man. The best guide ive seen. Everything is understandable and easy to follow.
Thank you so much for the extra info about things like left ctrl T and stuff like that
This is a great tutorial, we noobies need detailed info: like this. I'm off to give it a try.
i heard that star citizen music in the back ground... well played sir, well played XD
This was such a good video! Everything I needed to know.
Quick note here... on the server i play on, enemy AA‘s and aircraft have a triggerrange of 3000M
I suppose thats why they give you such a jump from 500 to 2000...
but idk man.
The video helped btw. Thanks :D
ArmA 3..
One of the only games that has people that help you.
Now I can finally actually use the jets dlc. And the kajman...
And most other things outfitted with guided weaponry.
More! This was super helpful. I have ARMA III, but hesitate to play it due to how complex the controls are (steep learning curve)... but watching this makes it look easy and makes me want to play!
Brilliant! I've been playing since OpFp and never really got the hang of drones.
this is what makes arma 3 just amazing!
Very clear step by step instructions, Subbed and liked. Thanks!
Interesting video. I've always felt that drones have always being very underrated. Although I already know how to pilot a drone still enjoyed the video. And love flying the drones by the way so hopefully this video will bring some more attention to drones
when used effectively you can clear an entire combat mission yourself.
Something that could be handy is a manually set altitude to fly, loiter at and so on. Especially on the modded games we have been playing recently where the spotting distance of certain AI has been ridiculously high.
That combination drone is awesome
For those of you who are still recently playing the game. For lock on press Ctrl R and the missile should actually hit the target.
AMAZING TUT BRO!
Nice video! Clear and simple!
I also had one more question. There is a UGV with a turret on it. Can 2 separate players of the same team/or Independents both Hack into a UGV, one controlling that driver seat and the other controlling the turret at the same time? (thanks, love the videos, they are the best I've found so far. appreciate your work)
10:45 Nice tutorial. Learned alot! Do you know what the keybind you were talking about in is called?
I cant remember offhand, I will look it up when I log in later
Luetin09 two days later
BobtheBest it's right control m
Luetin09 7 months later
9 months now. i think he might be dead.
What is the key for cycling between the sensor/radar distances @10:53. He cycles between 1000m, 4km and 8km. I've been looking everywhere but i can't seem to find what the key is?
Thanks Mate, Would love an advanced one!
Very good tutorial! Keep em coming!
Can you make a deep advanced tutorial on zeus ? I love the way you explain things . Would love one that is up to date and made by you :)
This is a beautifully designed game, glad i picked all of the arma games on sale for like $20 on humble bundle
I have learned a lot in this video. Thank you.
I would like to see a video of how a heli should approach and land in a hot zone for insert and extraction. Plus what the squad on the ground should be doing when their heli is coming in. I would even be willing to help make said tutorial.
Great tutorial! Thanks for the effort of putting this out!
awesome man subbed loved the tutorial

@@oiler3607 ah the sound of brrrt. Truly lovely......oh 2 years ago.
I'd like to see a commanding squads tutorial because it's a major part in which my skills lack in arma 3, also think it'd make another good enjoyable video to watch🤙🏽
Thanks, I never knew how to fly drones or how many things you could do with them!
I've mentioned that altitude gap before in the "Community Wishes" on the BI forum. Guess it was never read...
i came from 2021 and i'm telling you, u are my hero haha tks man
i came from 2022 and i'm telling you, u are my hero too!
How do you cycle through those sensors and the map, on the right of your screen?
JohanEga mousewheel menu or set it up in the controls
Brackets are the default keys i think
Yeah, just as the others are saying. [ and ] keys. They also are brought up if you wear the tactical glasses or are operating a vehicle.
Thanks this helped me control drones ( & the editor)
thanks for this video, helps out lots of arma noobs like me.
Awsome tutorial. Thank you

Luetin09 is a Star Citizen fan
Thank so much!! Very easy and informative!
Do you think the new sentinel will have these tools?
Atlas titan guy 13 yes of course it will. why wouldnt it?
This was very helpful thank you.
Great video. Please make more of these. Especially the flight based tutorials. Maybe get more in depth after doing some basic ones. Thanks
Great tutorial
what is the default control to switch GPS to RADAR? And how do you Zoom in and out on radar?
Samuel Schmitt Crl + m
defaulf is [ ] and hold ctrl and press for alt function i.e. radar/sens distance
Is there a way as a normal infantry to call in strikes from the drone? Instead of having to be the operator miles away from the war zone?
it is a weird pattern but the height is always 2 then five, repeat after adding a 0 on its tail.
Hey Luetin, I tried what you did with just the UCAV. I could lock onto the Laser target sometimes, but it would never fully lock to the solid square and diamond. Is it possible to do it with one drone or do you need a different drone to spot for you?
Could someone maybe explain the differences between the UAV fire modes for someone who is not very savvy with military terminology?
+Luetin09 Man, your tutorials have always been the best. Keep 'em coming!
yeah I think I should make more of them. Not just for ARMA but other games and maybe things outside gaming too?
Good Vid
could you list the key binding for the drones please
Hei I really enjoy your channel ☺ Keep it up!
What's the difference between "never fire" and "hold fire"? Does "hold" allow retaliation?
do you really need a second drone to bomb the target ? cant you just do it with the first?
So that's how you use the gbu drone, thanks mate
please do another full beginner tutorial! everything has changed
what is the keybind to cycle the camera, radar, map on the right? is it defaulted? whats the name of the bind so i can find it in the menu?
Me: *Put C4 on my quadcopter drone*
Me: hehe boi
can drones carry nukes or air to air missiles or is that something that needs to be modded in?
