I'm so dumb. Right after you showed which control bindings to use, I actually hit esc looking for the controls. Not in game, but while watching the video full screen. I feel like an addict.
a lot of people, including myself up until about 10 minutes ago, don't know that in some recent update, the bombs were changed to lock on after launch, so basically to do it, just get the white square and use the continuously calculated impact point (CCIP) (the place that it predicts it will land) close to the square and the bomb does the rest
Forgot to say: an aspect that could really use a tutorial is ATGM's. Many people do not realize that some of the missiles will not lock on a target that is not moving, some need active radar, some need IR, etc.

I find this guy really helpful I’ve been looking for the thermal controls for about a month now and I finally found out how to do it so thank you so much.
RedCardei Red he has more than a Dozen tutorials, search his playlists or his channel. Arma is confusing to new players because it plays very different to other video games, but once you get the hang of it, it's probably the most fun game to play, especially with friends.
In vanilla, you need to target the designated laser (with 'T' or 'R') before the GBU will guide to it (it's easiest to do this in the Targeting Pod view right after you've started laser designating). You don't need a solid lock if you're at high altitude - the GBU will execute the required trajectory. At lower altitudes, a solid lock may be required for accurate bombing. Approximately line the CCIP up with the target and the lock will go solid.
Even tho its a little late... You fricking helped me a lot! just got my first multi kill with those GBUs from like 1500m and saved like 5-6 mates that got shoot by some Humvees! Luv u
G'day mate, just an FYI you do not need to acquire a solid diamond lock in order to release the weapon. You can release the weapon without the solid lock and it will still (within reasonable release parameters) hit it's target. This means dive-bombing with LGBs is no longer needed.
SO informative, i have 600+ hours on the game and never knew i could lock GBUs for my self... always thought you needed to coordinate with boots on the ground with laser designation. Feel like an idiot
Hey I am very confused here, when I try this im not sure if it's because it's an old update or soemthing, but when I lock on I don't get any diamonds or locks at all, I instead get a little tiny green square and then I release, I am confused on how to laser guide when my marker thing is a tiny tiny little green [ ] over the target.
I had the exact same issue. Yeah its been changed now. Instead of getting a lock. You have to watxh for the 2 crosshairs to meet in the targeting view then drop the bomb. It locks on after being dropped
Yeah, there was a change with the Jets DLC. I just made a huge reply to another guy here so you could check that out maybe. Short answer though is you want to move the circle of the continuously calculated impact point (CCIP) over the small green square when you release the bomb.
Arma's simulation of munitions is a bit wierd. Apparently, they have no mass (sauce: forums.bistudio.com/forums/topic/204453-calculating-the-distance-a-bomb-would-travel/). Cool. I thought of it mainly because bombs deployed that way tend to be falling near-vertical on final approach, and if you do it right it gives you a bit of extra stand-off with the weapon, which could be useful if there's heavy AAA.
The lock on mechanic is gone it has been replaced by a more realistic system where you have to target a lazed target and use your unguided drop hud to drop the bomb in the general vicinity of your laser and the bomb will do the rest So you have to lase the target by yourself or let someone else do it... when approaching the target press R so that it is active. After that, like i have explained above, drop your bomb. Your unguided drop hud hasnt to match perfectly with the target... there could be one full "circle" from the unguided drop hud difference. Than watch the explosion.

Ok so my laser guided bombs don’t work i turn the laser guide on and switch to the bombs then turn around but then it doesn’t have the lock on symbol so the bombs won’t work
I don't get it, I'm doing exactly what you're describing and it's not working. My target is lazed but I can't find the double squares indicating a lock for my GBUs. Do you know what I'm doing wrong? Don't know if context help but I'm playing on Sandbox. Don't know if it needs to be a different situation. If you have scenarios to suggest I'm all ears.
I get nothing when i left control and right click, must you purchase the Jets DLC to use this function?
Kyle Minnicks check keybindings?
I did, cant find anything
How do you get the Targeting Pod view on the left panel to show up? I can only cycle thru the radar and gps
Heinz Ketchup some helicopters don't have it if ur flying a helicopter
It's been 2 years but my A10 doesn't show the diamond around the marked target, unlike the radar locked missiles, is it a setting or did they patch it out of the game?
@@user-ol3ox8mi1l hey man thanks for the reply, yeah I checked the forums and dev reports afterwards and found out, problem is I can't calculate the distance from where I should drop them, since it relies on altitude and speed, but if I can standardize at least height I should be able to make a connection between speed and distance, dive bombing for 200 or so meters to aim should be enough as well. Do you know of any other ways to aim them?
do you play dcs?
which key did you use to change radar range?
Everton Martins ALT+R
how do u point or area mode in the camera to get it to stop moving what is the button? to make it stop moving while in camera
he says left ctrl + t at 1:13 but it doesn't work for me neither
I did get a dotted circle on my HUD when targeting, however no squares. Do you need a mod?
Aaron Ikin did you lock on the laser?
@@greyknight6203 yep, but it doesn't seem to detect an enemy
It has been changed since this video was made. It now locks on after launch (which is what LOAL means) and you just need to drop it in the general vicinity of the target and it will automatically lock on and guide. As long as you have the square it should be fine
So basically the bombs are not accourate if I just do dive bombing. But I got to go through that it should just self guild that and hit it head on?
Also. How about infintry laxer designator? Does that work or do the pilot have to use the camera onboard to block?
Do most people play with the real vehicles mod?
how did you lock the area?
