Really interesting to hear Mat say the quote “There’s a difference between pain and injury” when talking about the weightlifting coach. It’s also a very common quote used by college football coaches. A welcome exception to most crossfitters I’ve come across. Being dominant at your respective field, you have no natural predators, tends to make you not be a dick. Also, I love how they are including some strongman events too (stones, pressing medley, and farmers carry). Makes it more about real strength and not just who can do a ton of burpees and row fast.
Many of the top crossfit athletes squat in the high 400lbs and squat clean atleast 315lbs, so its never been about who can do body weight stuff the fastest lol.
athletes who compete in the sport of crossfit and people who go to a crossfit gym are very different people. I think that people who go to a crossfit gym that take their training too seriously are off putting to most people. It's like the guy who plays in a rec hockey or basketball league once per week and he thinks he's a pro athlete and keeps track of the score of the game like winning or losing is life and death. Lol preach brother!
It's the fact that they treat lifting as a sport which it isn't. You should never be doing olympic lifts in time increments it leads to bad form which leads to injuries.
@@PmK96 I definitely agree that doing Olympic lifts right after sprinting 200m, and doing 50lb dumbbell snatches can lead to poor form, which leads to injury. But to say that it’s somehow not a sport because it doesn’t have an object going into some kind of goal isn’t valid.
@@lukeblankenship8424 you're definition is wonky, it can be more than that. Usually I'm sport you compete to be the best at something. CF doesn't have the best at lifting, running, etc just mediocre athletes that do these events which are just random. Putting them together doesn't determine the best at jumping, lifting, running, falling or even doing pushups. When you go to a lifting event, those are the strongest people trying to find the best at squats, bench, clean/jerk,etc.
As long as you get exercice and have a good physiotherapist, it's still better than doing nothing so its way better than the 30%+ of obese population (just don't get them to do crossfit to lose weight). Just like bodybuilding and its bro science, physio clinics will keep making mint on people trying to combine olympic lifting with speed and fatigue inducing workouts.
