NO...with this typoe of vacuum sealer you need the textured bags. The texture allows air to be pulled out. so with regular freezer bags..you need to provide a straw like texture so air can bee pulled out. By the way? They are all still well sealed in the freezer!
They don't deal with them either, the zip part of the bag is too thick to melt with the sealer strips I've tried several different types of vacuum dealers they don't melt well enough to seal for long that why she hits it several times
@@fredfunk6802 I'm can't remember if I tried that or not I think where the heat strips on the vacuum sealer clamp on the smooth bag keeps the air from getting to the inserts in that case ... Does that make sense?
What a blessing! I’m vacuum sealing a lot more as a senior living alone. Smaller packaged portions mean less chance of wasted food for me and this will save me a lot of money.
You are an amazing asset to us, you have shown us all through the years so many tips and tricks, how to save money, how to can, cook, garden etc. Thank you!
I am very blessed to buy my chickens from an organic farm 2-3 times a year. They have the Amish process and vacuum seal the poultry in freezer bags so I have no repackaging to do. They have a farm store where I can buy parted out chicken and other meat including their delicious pasture raised pork. We buy our beef from a big local butcher shop and the cattle processed there are all raise within a few miles of us. We pay a bit more than we would for grocery store meat but the quality and flavor give us so much more value for our money. Years of work and saving have afforded us a retirement that includes high quality food. Sometimes, being frugal is not about buying cheap. It is buying the best CLEANEST food you can afford in order to maximize your health and quality of life.
You are an awesome lady. I haven't used my vacuum sealer in a while. Can't afford the bags & I'm a senior. I buy bulk & freeze to save money. God Bless you for your smart thinking & sharing this wonderful, cost effective idea. ❤😂🎉😊
If you want to use ANYBAG then by a SNORKLE vaccum sealer. like this one. www.sorbentsystems.com/keep-fresh-vacuum-sealer.html?srsltid=AfmBOop9h01XV1cMyt9v5pzCOql_6o8SRtrONsDW9teRQASAhI0BuSGq
Going to have to give this a try. I have been vacuum sealing stuff for a long time, but never tried anything other than the vacuum sealer bags, or rolls. It is so nice to seal up meat especially when you know if might be around for a while.
Thank you so much for this tip. I have an Avid Armo vacuum sealer and I wouldn’t need to add the zippers on the sides. But thank you so much for your help.
Sad to say, this is the 1st vid you’ve put out, that has been in my ‘recommended’ list in MONTHS! 🤯 I’m getting to where I really, really dislike YTBoobz algorithms BS! 🤬 Thanx for reminding me of this trick! Had learned it few yrs bk, but with $ being tight, haven’t really thought of it until your vid. Am going to cook and freeze some, rice dishes, beans and cornbread, and chili in single portions, for husband’s lunches @work. Much appreciated! Be blessed!
I'm sure this will save me in a pinch one day. I got the ForJars vacuum sealer and I love it. There's little canisters at the back of it where the liquids go if you accidentally suck some up! Easy to clean, I must say!
My food saver is a big one and you have to have the roll at the top and seal the end and insert through a slot in the bottom. You have to leave at least 4 inches on them. My daughter has one like yours.
Thanks, it's been a while for this reminder. Was thinking while you were fighting with the seal strips, you might be able to use clips or something like cloths pins or originally, I was thinking those sewing clips if you have then. They are small and strong. Just maybe until you get them in the vacuum sealer, locked. Possibly save some time fighting. Lol.
I will definitely have to try this one. If you want to save a little more you will pay less for whole chickens or any other meat. And cut it up yourself, that will save you a little more. Thanks for the tip.
Welp, I learned finally something from UA-cam that's actually a life hack. Vacuum bags are damn expensive. My question is, what was your discovery process? I love how the mind solves unanswered questions. Thank you.
Spend the money on a good chamber vac, I seal the bag at the end and portion out what I need and re vac... Depending on what I have in the bag I get 3 or 4+ uses out of 1 bag. I bag everything, all the dry goods to eliminate bugs. Between that and a dehydrator, I have almost no food waste!!
I tried this exact tip over a year ago (it's been on UA-cam for awhile on other channels). It sealed, but the problem was, it didn't STAY sealed. If you do this, keep an eye on the food to make sure it stays sealed.
@@lifewiththevolfies To be honest, it’s been so long ago that I don’t remember. It’s worth trying again though! It didn’t fail immediately. I think it was a week or so later.
@@dianeiverson3727 I did this video several years ago. But this time I used a thicker bag. I am happy to say all bags of chicken are still sealed. Or, what's L:EFT... I have some in the oven. But the seal definately held.
I insert a small straw in the corner of a zip lock bag and then draw the air out until the bag begins to collapse around the contents and then pull the tab to seal the bag, works just like a vacuum sealer.
Great idea the only thing that might be better is to cut the zipper/straws shorter and second/double seal in the area where there isn't a straw/zipper so the vacuum stays forever!
God Bless you & thank you fir helping me. The price of food saver bags is ridiculous. Can't afford them. Freezer bags with zip locks are expensive too. Thanks❤😂🎉😊
I don't have a sealer with the flip top. I have to push bag through a slot the the sealer senses the bag then starts. I'm not sure the zip tops would stay in place and not likely to get a second seal.
I understand the use of the top of the bag but I would like to see difference in trying it both ways and I think it would help some people understand the reasoning behind it better
Why do you need the two strips put into the bag? Will it not seal without them?
NO...with this typoe of vacuum sealer you need the textured bags. The texture allows air to be pulled out. so with regular freezer bags..you need to provide a straw like texture so air can bee pulled out. By the way? They are all still well sealed in the freezer!

My vacuum sealer has sat idly in my pantry as our budget had tightened. This tip is a game changer for me, thank you.
Really a good way to save money the vacuum bags are way more expensive than the cheaper zip seal freezer bags. Thanks for your magic tip. 🙏❤🙏
I have had a vacuum sealer since the 1980s, and that is a great use of what you have. Way to go.

That's brilliant, Bev. Thanks for showing how to save money. Much love from Thunder Bay Ontario
A friend of mine uses the Walmart brand Mainstay vacuum seal bags and loves them ,and much cheaper than food saver bags.
Going to have to give this a try. I have been vacuum sealing stuff for a long time, but never tried anything other than the vacuum sealer bags, or rolls. It is so nice to seal up meat especially when you know if might be around for a while.
I have done this also. Thank you for helping us save money!

Good thinking Bev! I’ve been freezing a lot of chicken lately. Now I know how to vacuum seal it even cheaper! Thanks!
Happy to help!
Going to try this. Thanks Mrs Volfie.❤
Great way to save money Bev, so smart.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who talks to machines/inanimate objects...
You should hear me talk to my popcorn maker it always pops after I shut it off😂
Lol I do the same
Doesn't everybody?!?!
Curious, what about cutting the bottom and proceed the same. Then to open just unzip
Brilliant ❤
I've always said NO to buying a vacuum sesler because the price of the bags is ridiculous! This changes the equation! 🙏👏👏👏
Wrapping your meat in plastic wrap helps it last longer as well!

That’s great! Love your videos and thank you for your time and sharing with us!
My Pleasure Honey!
Did anyone do a price comparison between the no name bags and a roll of the seal bags?
That box of no name bags was approximately one FoodSaver roll. I paid approx 5.49 for them
I'll be dogged! I have been shopping around for a vacuum sealer and this tip is great!!! 😅
What a great idea thanks for sharing what side does the tabs go in ????
Both sides

I saw a vid where someone put a piece of bubble wrap inside and it worked!
I always wondered if this would work!! Thank you ❤
You're welcome!!
Thank you so much; just bought a vac sealer. Will definitely do this. 👵🏻
Thanks so much, Bev! Great tip!😘
Great idea. Question though, do you need to use the zippers on the ends or will it seal just as well without?
The zippers make it possible for the vacuum sealer to pull all the air out
Will it melt a regular ziplock bag?
YES!
Awesome 😎👍. I'll be sure to share this with my people's ❤

Walmart sell 10# leg quarter bags for $6-8. Usually get 8 or 9 to the bag.

I think I would put the zipper a bit in -- seal it, and then a second seal outside of the zipper area (no zipper)
