I remember my mom telling me not to whip the cream too long or it will turn into butter. That would have been 60+ yrs ago. I'm now going to whip the cream too long!!
It’s amazing how those childhood lessons stick with us! Enjoy the whipping and let us know how it turns out!
Ha ha ha, I remember my grandmother saying that!
Wish my mom would have hung onto these lessons. She's in her 80s, and would be perfectly happy with canned goods and microwave meals.
Lol❤😂
😂😂😂
When I was in grade school our teacher put the cream in a mason jar or maybe even a cleaned out plastic peanut butter jar with a pinch of salt. She closed the lid and starting with the first student. We each shook the jar for 2 minutes then passed it to the next student. We did this until the cream turned into butter. The teacher passed out saltine crackers on a napkin and put some of our butter on our crackers for us to have as a treat. I can't eat crackers to this day without butter. Yum!
I had a teacher who did the exact same thing in my class! I can still taste that butter and crackers we enjoyed that day, even though it was about 60 years ago.
Wow! My 1st grade teacher brought a butter churn into class and taught us each how to make butter from scratch 🥰. Still the best butter I’ve ever tasted (we had ours on crackers too!) have to try the jar method too, that seems to be most feasible for me this day and age 💕
@@Susweca5569 Nothing tastes better.
@@riannadominguez396 Glad you had that great experience too. As we get older we could turn it into the butter churn arm exercise. The possibilities are endless. Haha.
@@kathyverrelli5170 lol! Challenge accepted 😁
I do not know what they're complaining about because I enjoyed watching her make butter she's informative and knows what she's doing. She is very easy to understand And she is pleasant....
Thank you🤗
She's putting on an accent with the intent to annoy you at least.
Yiu remi d Mr of my mother and su to, thru always made butter on a Monday because we churned on that day after saving the cream from the top of the milk every Morning

@@Anthony-b8f2c, Just curious, how much into the video did you watch, once you heard this so called put on accent that annoyed you?? I find her voice so very pleasant and it's different than what I am used to hearing in my little corner of the world, so I'll listen to her speak even if I'm not going to make the video's recipe! People are sooo different, aren't they! 😁
Here in Germany butter prices have skyrocketed and knowing how to make it myself is definitely helpful, so thank you very much!❤
Glad it was helpful!
Yeah, but check the price of cream. Guess you'll have to compare the cost for the same amount of product.
I did price compare and it is more expensive at this moment to make your own butter. You get buttermilk as a buy product = 1.18. Whipping cream is 6.00 a quart. Today at Kroger 2 pounds of butter = 8.00. But I should imagine homemade is better … cream from a farmer = BEST. GOOD LUCK! ❤️
Ya but what is the price of heavy whip cream.. For us.. 32 ounces/4 cups it's $6.00 US.. and 1 lb of butter is around $6.00 right now.. unless we get a lucky sale.
I love Germany and miss my relatives

It’s not negative.
Everybody has opinions.
Homemade butter is much better yes. With that being said-unless you have a farm AND…you don’t use butter in every cooking application (like I bake and sell cakes and I use ONLY butter) it really isn’t cost effective.
However, if it’s just for limited use…go for it.
I had a Guernsey cow named Essie when I was a kid. The butter and ice cream we made from her milk were out of this world.
It sounds like Essie was a wonderful companion! There's nothing quite like fresh butter and ice cream made from your own cow's milk.
We had a Guernsey also ...I churned butter in a quart jar....and we had whipped cream all time ..
Is that milk your using
I think that is labeled A2 milk. Easier for most people to digest especially raw milk.
I'm ordering my Guernsey cow right now..🤦♂️🙏
I’ve never seen butter made before, that was AWESOME!
I was a kid from Jersey, that moved to the south. I watched my neighbor churning cow's milk some time after 4am in the morning. Didn't appreciate it then, but love the knowledge now.
Where have You been??
Used to make BUTTER in my grandmothers dairy in Ireland...from grass fed cows and collected water from a well !!! 1960s.... it was amazing...😊😊😊
When I was young, Daddy would put milk into a glass jug, cover the top with layers of fabric tied down and put it in the corner of the kitchen. In my memory that glass jug held 2 to 3 gallons. After it separated, he would put it in a churn and then mix it until he had butter and buttermilk. He would give me a small glass of still warm buttermilk to drink. It tasted amazing. Then he would squeeze the buttermilk out of the butter and mold it into a bowl with his own design across the top. I don't know when he added the salt. I still have my grandmother's wooden butter mold.
That is too cool. What great memories! I was curious as to how it’s made from milk (since I have access to raw milk), so thank you for sharing this! ❤
I think it’s worth making your own butter. Just 2 ingredients 👍🏻👍🏻no preservatives 👍🏻👍🏻thank you great video much appreciated ❤️
You're absolutely right! Making your own butter is a simple and rewarding process. I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
It is a great video ... I need to try this. Always nice to learn new things. Even if it's a little more expensive. Cream is very expensive.
There's no preservatives in butter
Agreed! Store-bought butter is expensive.......
Salt is a preservative.
I was drawn back to this video because someone liked a comment I left weeks ago. For whatever reason it triggered a memory I'd like to share.
My mother was a nurse and as a child [me] she worked in a hospital. A very generous man would periodically gift her with a gallon of farm fresh milk which had a very thick layer of cream on top. My grandmother lived with us at that time and she taught myself and my sister the jar shaking method of making the butter. Btw, it wasn't yellow, it was white.
I just felt compelled to share that, it's a good memory💜
Ours was white, as well.. So is the butter I purchase..
I live in a country where cows live on pasture all year round so our butter is yellow. It's the beta-carotene from grass that gives butter it's yellow colour. Cows kept in barns don't get to graze on grass so don't have beta-carotene in their diets and the butter from such animals is near white. In some places cows spend the warmer months outside and kept in barns when it's too cold for them to be outside... Their butter colour changes with the seasons.
@@catherina2611 very interesting, thank you so much for that. 👋
@@MoanAhLisa You're welcome. I'm a bit of a curd nerd (home cheese maker)
They are trying to ban white butter in Canada..considering it racist.
I check grocery stores who sell whipping cream and when it’s close to best by date it is dirt cheap, I clean the shelf and bring it home and make butter. Otherwise where I live it can be up to 10.00 a pound. Some I salt and some is unsalted for baking
Great idea thank you!
Whipping cream has other additives like stabilizers etc. I have also done this and can be cheaper than buying butter. But it’s not pure cream which makes me sad. But cream itself is too much money for me
Made this just now in my Ninja blender, it beat the heck out the milk and left NO whey! It turned into whipped butter! Thank you! Shalom

Hi there from Clatskanie, Oregon. When we were kids our grandma would give each of all grandchildren a small mayo jar with heavy cream in them. About 1/4 full . Then we were told to shake till the milk separated. Boy what fun we had making butter for our Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. It also kept us out of her hair while she was cooking. Thanks
What a sweet memory.
Was going to say as well, great memories! I miss those times since most are gone but, thankfully I still have the memories❤️
Jojo, I heard your voice and I was hooked. I never even cook. You just sound like a kind person
I’ve actually needed buttermilk for a recipe before and couldn’t find it. Now I can make my own alongside some nice, homemade butter! Thank you!
When I make my grandmas recipe for soft sugar cookies, it calls for buttermilk but you can also take regular milk and put some lemon juice or vinegar in it and it will curdle the milk and it can be used instead of buttermilk 🥛
The buttermilk from home made butter is SO different than what's sold in stores......because its the REAL thing~!! You'll never want to buy it from the store again!
You can m ake butter milk for recipes by adding aplle cider vinegsr to milk

Apparently you can do it in a mason jar and let them shake it up❤
This would be so fun to do with my 8 year old grandson. I like to teach him what was it like before factories and stores. Thank you.

I'm so glad to hear that the video helped ease your worries about butter making! It’s a fascinating process, and I’m happy to share it with you.
I waste so much being one person, so thank you, I am going to make my own for freezing. Ghee is next for me, and I just found you, so I will look into your videos. May Jesus Christ and God Bless you and your family.
I'm glad you found my videos helpful! Making your own ghee sounds like a fantastic project. Wishing you all the best in your cooking adventures!
How long to beat it?
Ghee is made by melting Butter and straining it of the white stuff.
People in India and Pakistan make ghee at home regularly
Saw my Indian roommate make ghee once and learned from him. It's a good way to make your basic store butter a lot healthier. If you can't make organic butter from organically fed animals, then ghee is a solid healthier option even if not perfect.

@@Jojos_Plate Hi there I saw your video yesterday and went and bought the Heavy Cream today and just finished making my 1st of soon to be many rolls of butter. It made 2 nice size rolls really nice. I timed it it took 20 mins, I guess at how much salt I had only use 1/4 tsp but I actually needed a 1/2. Made a little mess but will clean that up, but I had to write to let you know I love butter I have some I bought and tasted my store bought to my homemade hands down homemade way better. Thank you never buying butter again.
*too
😅
Sadly, much of the heavy whipping creams have stuff added to it. At least that's the case in the United States. I read online that the things added to it, are there to stabilize it when whipped into whip cream.
When I was a little girl, the milk came in glass quart bottles, and was delivered by the dairy man in a horse-drawn wagon. We would usually get homogenized whole milk, but sometimes we would have it unhomogenized with the cream floating on top. Once in a while my mother ordered a bottle of buttermilk as a special treat. She would pour browned butter and onions over diced baked potatoes, and pass around the pitcher of buttermilk. It was Heavenly!
In the UK we used to have our milk delivered to the door by a milk man in in pint glass bottles. The more expensive gold foil top pints had a layer of cream on the top. Well it would have done if all the local birds hadn't stuck their beaks through the foil and sucked all the cream up.
Happy days, I think. The ice on the inside of our bedroom windows is another not so nice memory!

It's much more expensive to make butter
@@trkstatrksta8410I JUST made butter yesterday. I paid $6. USD for a good quality half gallon of heavy whipping cream. I used 3/4 of the container and ended up with eight standard bars of butter. The grass fed butter I buy from the store is $6. USD for a four pack. I literally saved $6. USD. Sooo…your math ain’t mathing. Lol
@@ropaj6795 I was wondering about grass fed...I buy Truly brand, its the only one here I can get. I THINK there's a grass fed heavy cream here, Orchard farms maybe? So, same thing? I never buy cream so I don't know how many forever chemicals could be in there??
Thank you. I lend mine the exact same. Leftover buttermilk I make 3 ingredients biscuits the 211 method. 2 cups self rising flour, 1 frozen butter stick to grade in the flour and 1 cup of milk. Cook for 12-14 min then add butter on top of cooked biscuits.

Love your video and you have such a sweet voice. I am 72 years old and I remember my grandmother would let the cream sour before she churned it and it was so good. Sour cream butter has a much richer flavor. In the stores they call it cultured butter and you pay a more for it. My grandmothers butter had more flavor than any butter I have been able to find, and I have tried many cultured butters. I have let cream sour and made butter, but it's not as good as my grandmother's. She did have the advantage of milking her own cows.
So nice to hear that.Yes cultured butter are so nutritious than regular butter and is so delicious .
I even have a video on that on my channel
ua-cam.com/video/wK5VTsdlxQs/v-deo.htmlsi=m1GGoI5oZ9_xyk3q
Thank you for giving the weight of this. If it works, I can get nearly 2lbs of butter + some buttermilk for about $6 if I buy a quart container of heavy cream. Worth it!
Sounds great!
Do you nearly 2 lbs of butter from 1 quart of cream?
I think they meant nearly 1 lb ?
Nope, it would be near 2 lbs. She used 4 cups of cream and got near a lb of butter, so 8 cups, 32 oz, would get near 2 lbs. Which works out to be cheaper to buy the cream than to buy the butter ready made - at least in my area.
What a deal!
What a deal!
My dad had a 1 quart hand cranked churn. My job was to milk the cow in the morning before school and dad would be sipping coffee and listening to the radio while making butter when I left for school. I don't miss milking the cow but I do miss home made butter and fresh milk.

Thanks for the video. It costs more to buy the cream than it costs to buy the butter where I live. It does taste better when it homemade. 🇨🇦
I totally agree!
That’s because commercial butter is waterex down so much or lesser fat milk used - not whole cream.
Where I live it’s $.26 per ounce for butter, but $.17 per ounce for heavy whipping cream. The carton of whipping cream costs more than the butter, but it’s because we are getting more than butter from the whipping cream. We are also getting buttermilk. That’s part of what makes up the cost.

OMG! So simple and easy. I never knew that's all it took! Thanks for sharing...I am definitely going to make my own. I suppose if I wanted to add vanilla or garlic I could create a variety of butters.
Making is easy. We had our own cow so had lots of cream. In the last 2 years we in Canada had purchased butter. It did not suften when out on counter. Tore bread when buttering it. Cause? The farmers were giving the cows the fats we were not supposed to not eat in their food. Be aware. Not all butter is the 'good food' we expect. I still buy butter. But we did have a cow who ate an organic diet.
It's interesting to hear about your experience with butter and the impact of cow diets. It really makes you think about the quality of the ingredients we use every day!
The dairies were caught adding coconut oil to the butter.
Thanks much, Jojo. I will be making butter next week just as you showed.
Thank you for your kind words! I'm thrilled that my video inspired you to make butter. Enjoy the process!
I made homemade cottage cheese and wondered what to use the whey for. Thank you for the ideas you mentioned.
What a great demonstration. I use a lot of butter and sometimes it's difficult to get at the store and the price has more than doubled since 2019. I'm always looking for ways to make my own natural food...now I can make my own butter without needing a cow and butter churn. Thank you!
What you using so much butter on?
I’m glad you found this video helpful!
Thank you for sharing! I don’t need to spend a load of money on a special churner and paddles - this was straightforward and no nonsense 🙏🏻
Glad it was helpful!
This is so cool, I can't believe how easy it is. Thanks very much for posting!
My pleasure 😇
JoJo this looks delicious! I think i can do it!!!! Thank you for sharing!❤
Thank you and I know you can
Everyone commenting about the cost. This is about your health and quality which is more important.
Thank you😘🌸
Where I live, 4 cups of cream is cheaper then buying the butter it makes. This is a win❤
Sometimes it is cheaper to make the butter than to buy it! When large containers of heavy cream go on sale for example. . .
People always wanna complain. No one if forcing people to follow any of these suggestions, let’s be thankful there are people willing to share videos like these.
Not everyone HAS enough money. We're not all fortunate!
Just found your channel. I remember my grandma had a butter churn & we also used jars shaking it! This brought back so many precious memories going to make it with my grandkids now. Thank & love listening to your voice!
It’s so fun to share these memories with your grandkids!
Thank you Jojo❤
Thank You!! U have given me the option to try this and know what to look for and do a great job!! 👍👏
You are so welcome and have fun 🤗
Thank you so much for this, Jojo! This butter looks incredible!! I have a cake that is a family recipe and calls for buttermilk so that definitely won't go to waste. Love knowing what is in our food!!🙏🏻
Recipes that call for buttermilk are for cultured (fermented) buttermilk. Fresh buttermilk is sweet.
I was wondering how to do this. Your fhannel just popped up. Thank you for your wisdom. God bless you.
Glad it was helpful!
Great way to make homemade butter. I will try your way madam.
Thank you so much Jojo for sharing this video. I didn’t realize it was so easy to make butter with hand mixer. I live in Poland. Next Saturday I will be going to farmer’s market, so I will get some fresh, unprocessed cream and will try to make some butter. God Bless you too lovely lady. 💖💥🕊🙏😊
