  • Track 3 from their debut album “Tales of Mystery and Imagination - Edgar Allan Poe” copyright 1976 Polygram Records and recorded at Abbey Road Studios. Alan Parsons is one extremely gifted person. His project was a new concept at the time, the “producer as recording artist.” At a young age, Alan Parsons had worked as an assistant engineer on the Beatle’s albums “Abbey Road” and “Let it Be” and later as chief engineer on Pink Floyd’s “The Dark Side of the Moon” in 1973, for which he received a Grammy nomination. Pink Floyd regards him as an important contributor to the recording process, more a producer than simply an engineer. He was also a musician and teamed with Eric Woolfson, a composer, performer and producer for this, the first of many successful Alan Parsons Project albums. The album was ground-breaking for its advanced recording techniques in the age when recording tape was state-of-the-art. These uploads are from the original analog recordings as released on vinyl. In 1987, the album was remixed and remastered, adding Orson Welle’s narration to the opening track, converted to digital and released on CD. It has to be considered one of the best albums from the seventies and a stellar debut. Recorded in HQ format from the original vinyl. Written by Eric Woolfson & Alan Parsons and produced by Alan Parsons. Engineered by Alan Parsons with assistance from Pat Stapley & Chris Blair. RIP Eric Woolfson, Kevin Peek. Featuring:

    You should have seen him
Lying alone in helpless silence in the night
    You should have seen him
You would have seen his eye reflecting in the light, whoa, yeah
    So for the old man
Ashes to ashes, earth to earth and dust to dust
    No one will see me
No one with guilt to share, no secret sold to trust, oh, no
(And he won't be found at all, nor a trace to mark his fall)
(Nor a stain upon the wall)
    Louder and louder
Till I could tell the sound was not within my ears
    You should have seen me
You would have seen my eyes grow white and cold with fear
Heard all the things in Heaven and Earth
I've seen many things in Hell
But his vulture's eye of a cold, pale blue
Is the eye of the Devil himself
    Take me away now
But let the silence drown the beating of his heart
    I can't go on
Let me flee from this guilty secret that I've held
Please set me free, yeah, oh

I prefer this version much more over the 87 remix. The part where everything drops and the building of the choir is quite chilling. In contrary to the 87 mix with the guitarsolo.
